By • Olalekan Fagbade Four IPOB/ESN camps cleared by Nigerian Troops, recover fresh, old human corpses Troops of the Joint Task Force, South-East, code-named Operation UDO KA II, has cleared four notorious camps of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliates, Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Imo State. The troops, in the course of the clearance, neutralised two IPOB/ESN members and four of the criminals were arrested. This is contained in a statement issued on Monday in Enugu by Lt.-Col. Jonah Unuakhalu, acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 82 Division, Nigerian Army, for the Joint Task Force Operation UDO KA II. Unuakhalu said that the camps cleared are located in three communities – Ihube, Aku and Umulolo – in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State. He said that the clearance and recovery was carried out on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023. The army spokesman said that during the clearance operation, troops encountered many Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs) deployed enroute to the camps. According to him, however, due to superior firepower, the irredentist group members fled into neighbouring forests with gunshot wounds. “It was discovered that the camps were being used to perpetuate atrocities such as cannibalism, occultic practices and ritual killings to instill fears into law-abiding citizens. “These were evident from many fresh and old corpses discovered while clearing the entire camps. “Also, the houses of the two spiritual leaders and herbalists that took to their heels were destroyed. “Furthermore, the shrine of the wanted terrorist, Amobi Chinoso Okafor, alias Temple, where human sacrifices are being made was destroyed,” he said. Unuakhalu said that the items recovered from the camps included different denomination of the Biafra currencies, one new power bike, four motorcycles and solar panels. Others items recovered are POP cements and a petroleum tanker suspected to have been hijacked from hard working Igbo owners (indigenes) trying to make a living. “Operation UDO KA II will continue combating crime and criminality in accordance with the extant rules and regulations guiding its operations. “All law-abiding and good citizens of the South-East are enjoined to act against these devilish terrorists by providing timely, credible and reliable information which will lead to ending the menace of insecurity occasioned by activities of the terrorist group in the region. “Do not be a victim of this sacrilegious. These criminals are desecrating Igboland,” he said. (NAN) #4IPOBESNCampsclearedbyTroopsfresholdcorpsesrecovered

Fuel subsidy removal big challenge to transport industry – HDTDA President

The National President of the Heavy Duty Truck Drivers Association, Mr Uche Nebuwa, has stated that there will be no remedy to the hike in the pump price of fuel caused by subsidy removal unless old refineries are repaired. Nebuwa stated this during the inauguration of Uzoeghelu General Motor Park at Ugwu Nwasike/Nkwo Market, along Old Onitsha-Enugu road, Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra, on Thursday. He described the hike as a big problem to them in the transportation industry and society at large. He said, “Fuel hike is a very big problem to us transporters; President Bola Tinubu would have consulted us before the removal of the fuel subsidy. “No palliatives will solve this issue of hike in fuel pump price except the old refineries are repaired. “The alleged distribution of solar lights as palliatives would not have any positive effect on Nigerians, rather it will worsen the situation. “They just introduced that to calm frayed nerves for now but it will not work as everybody is crying and it has also caused more harm than good to the present socio-political and economic quagmire that we are trying to set ourselves free from.” The Zonal Chairman of South-East National Union of Road Transport Workers, Mr Augustine Udeozor, said the hike in fuel had become a general disease that should be removed from the top. “It is a general disease that can only be cured by the Federal Government because the masses are suffering. “Something should be done immediately to alleviate the suffering imposed on us in the name of making effort to rectify the socio-economic and political quagmire. “So the inauguration of the park is not the issue but what one is capable of doing, how many vehicles you brought, how many passengers you attracted,” he said. Earlier, Mr Obiegbu Ikeobi, the Chaiŕman, Njikoka Local Government Area Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, said with the inauguration of the massive park, business would start fully on Friday. With the continued annual increase in the number of students and staff within the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus UNEC , the demand on energy has continued to rise. There is need for an efficient and regular power supple to meet the growing demands in order to ensure proper functioning of the academic environment. The Campus currently receives an average of about 5 hours of electricity from the national grid daily. This is due to the erratic power supple and inherent in the country, making learning conditions stressful, administration more tedious and the living conditions in the students and staff housing difficult. As an alternative the campus relies on fossil fuel powered generators which apart from high cost of maintenance, are grossly inefficient and constitute environmental pollution with the constant release of harmful gases and noise. The study investigated and assess the current state of energy supply within the various zones of the campus, and explored the potentials of introducing an efficient, safe and alternate source of power in the campus energy mix. It evaluates potential of solar energy installations and possible challenges associated with the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus.

JUST IN: We don’t want APC in the South-East Especially in Enugu – Hon. Toby Okechukwu
New Post has been published on https://thebiafrastar.com/just-in-we-dont-want-apc-in-the-south-east-especially-in-enugu-hon-toby-okechukwu/
JUST IN: We don’t want APC in the South-East Especially in Enugu – Hon. Toby Okechukwu

Hon. Toby Okechukwu, the member representing Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency of Enugu State in the National Assembly has described his planned return to the House of Representatives as a done deal.
The two-term House member was first elected in 2011 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Under the same platform, he was re-elected in 2015 and is presently seeking to return to the House in the February 16 general elections.
Speaking during a grand rally at his Ugbo community, Okechukwu said the PDP government in the State and the members of the National Assembly had continued to endear themselves on the heart of the people through visible achievements and quality representation.
He said as such, the party would repeat its feat in the State in 2019.
The Deputy Senate President, Senator Ekweremadu, who was also at the event, had said in his speech, that the PDP has used Ugbo community as a template, to test how to transform a rural community, into an urban center.
He added that Ugbo now had good access road, electricity, solar street lights, which has enhanced security and improved night life in the community.
He noted that these things were products of PDP government and urged every voter to vote PDP again at all levels, to ensure the continuation of those dividends of democracy.
On his part, Okechukwu had noted that the PDP “is certain of victory because it has since endeared itself into the minds and heart of the people.
“Our dear Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has done so well in the State and this effort is being complemented by those of us at the National Assembly.
“So, it is a win-win situation for us in 2019. Our people are totally with us and that is why we will never stop to give back to the society.”
He said through his representation, his constituents have had a touch of governance in various ways, including scholarship for students, provision of water, roads, electricity, among others.
He said other projects to his credit include “training/economic empowerment programme, erosion control programme, agriculture and other community development initiatives.”
The lawmaker further disclosed that just recently, he commissioned completed bridge, along Ugwueme/Umuhu Road, which was undertaken as part of his constituency project According to him, “we shall continue to initiate projects that touch positively on the life of the people.
“As elected representatives of the people, our utmost desire is to make the people happy by putting in place those projects that impact directly on their lives.
“This is exactly what we have done here, and our promise is that the remaining one bridge will also be constructed and this road asphalted.”
Under him as the chairman House committee on works, he disclosed that he had sponsored 4 bills, moved 12 motions, attracted the award of road projects in Enugu and other Southeast States, passage of the Road FUnd Bill for Federal Roads, Amendment of the Surveyor’s Council Act and Engineers Registration, among others.
