I got comments all of the time about my beardie and I would always say, "I'm not sure technically, but it sure seems like she does."
When I let her run around she wouldn't want to go too far from me, and would regularly come over to me, lick my shoe, look up at me, and then go run around again. When she started getting tired in the evening she would glass surf until she was let out. If she wasn't near me she'd run around until she got to me before doing the Sleepy Wiggle and going to sleep. Every time I got back from vacation she would SPRINT to the corner of her tank to say hi.
And then with people she didn't like she'd hiss + flatten and shit on them if they picked her up anyway. If someone she didn't like was around she'd run to my lap and started head bobbing.
So yea MAYBE they're not capable of Human Level Love, but they definitely love.
you know how people say that cats and dogs don’t feel love the way humans do but it’s like. “oh they don’t love you they just associate you with warmth and safety and seek out your company and being near you and spending time with you makes them feel comfortable and secure” bro if that’s not love then what the FUCK do you think love is???

Everyone who recommended me Brandon Sanderson books told me that the worldbuilding is interesting, but you’re really just Reading until the end where it gets fun. And I disagree HEAVILY.
I’m currently reading The Way Of Kings, and it’s the only book by him I’ve ever read, but I’ve enjoyed every single chapter so far!! All of the characters have been fun to read about and even for characters I don’t care Too Much about, the worldbuilding and plot is enough to keep me invested. I’m 670 pages in, but the appeal has not diminished at all! I want an axehound

Pretty sure it’s just autism + trauma tbh. Like it’s not the happiest of reasons but dogs are my special interest and I was often isolated, aside from the dogs that we ALWAYS had. The autism already makes me feel disconnected from humanity. Later on pretty much every person would compare me to a dog so it honestly seems like the perfect recipe.
Despite it not being the happiest source of nonhumanity, I really enjoy being nonhuman and wouldn’t change it for the world :)
Guys I’m actually kinda curious now,, why do you think you have your nonhuman identity?
For me personally it’s the fact I was lonely and animals gave me a sense of comfort.
Anyways!! What is your story? :3

I would absolutely love to make friends, so feel free to reblog with experiences, dm, send asks, etc.!!

This one feels right, aside from a couple small things. But I’d definitely have the Mal pant. They look like they’re snarling but they’re just panting
Freaks! (Lovingly, with tenderness)
I have no clue what breed my kin type is, if I’m a wolfdog or full dog as my kin type, or something else, but this is EXACTLY what I look like. Like exactly this is me, every bit of what I imagine my kin type looking like. That’s just me. Calling all other therians, do you have a picture of your kin type that looks exactly like you? Please reblog, I’d love to see the real you!!!

9, 14 and 15 (for the askgame!!)
9. Do you, on average, get more shifts or memories? Shifts for sure! I don't actually have any memories for my theriotype, just phantom limbs and my thinking aligns with it more!
14. On the flipside, what environments would make your kintype on edge? Do any of your fears now connect to things experienced/feared by your kintypes? Hot, humid places are the worst. I'm a domestic dog so there's nowhere technically wrong for me, but I've always hated those places the most. The heat in general is terrible, but I've found that a dry heat is so much easier to deal with. And I do think a few of my fears connect to my theriotype, though I'm not exactly sure how. Sometimes fear will come up with something and I'll connect it to me being a dog!
15. What was your first reaction to/opinion of your kintype? How has your opinion changed upon realizing that they, or at least a version of them, are you? I've grown up being a dog, so I can't remember my first reaction or when I accepted it. I do remember when it started being "less normal". As a child I played wolves/dogs a lot, but as you get older that's no longer welcome, but I couldn't ever let it go. So I started hiding it, but it never really left.
And then finding out my specific theriotype (a Malinois) was... a lot of mixed emotions. Mostly because I have a lot of black and white thinking so if I don't fit it EXACTLY then I cannot be it. But Malinois were one of my favorite dogs as well and I related quite heavily so it was like. every time my friends were like "no ur definitely a mal" I would be SO incredibly flattered but I can tell myself no to doing work so no I'm not. Mals are also THEE beauty standard to me so again, really flattering but there's no way. I am coming to terms with it which has given me the biggest sense of euphoria<3

I’m like 98% sure I’m a Malinois and the never ending energy paired with the NEED to work makes this a constant problem for me. Luckily I've found a couple things that have worked, so hopefully some of this helps you!! YouokayMilo had a wonderful suggestion too!
One of the biggest things that have helped me is reframing human activities to fit my dog needs. I made a post awhile back of how at work I just reframe my work to fit dog work. "Oh (this) is just the same as doing (this dog job)" and it makes this SO MUCH more bearable for me. Some activities won't exactly be herding cattle, but reframing the activity you choose to help with that as that might make it even more fulfilling! The working dogs that I've personally met and have talked to, alongside me, have seemed to like challenges, so maybe keep that in mind when picking things.
The second biggest help to me has been narrowing down what it is that I feel I need to do. Herding? Digging? Scenting? Chasing? Guarding? Once you figure that out, it'll be a lot easier to brainstorm things to do. Livestock guardian dogs can walk around the perimeter of their territory and note any changes, etc. Chasing can be just going for a run and picking something to "chase", even if it's a still object before picking the next still object to "chase". Having others to run with, human or dog, helps a lot with this too. And so on.
Another thing that I think a lot of people forget about for work dogs is that we need our brains worked. Physical activities are wonderful and still needed, but they can only do so much. You can take a dog on a 5 mile run and then watch it get into stuff it's not supposed to as soon as you get home because as wonderful as that run was, its brain still needs to be tired. Personally, to combat this, I learn. Do a quick 15 minute Youtube tutorial of whatever subject I enjoy learning about, watch a documentary and take mental/physical notes, and since I love anything regarding the arts, I love to take part in things like that too! Learning new stitches for crochet, taking on a new project, planning out new things to do, learning a new recipe for something I've never made, etc. A really nice intellectual conversation with someone is also another way to use your brain. Go exploring somewhere completely new if you can!
As for which type of dog I was, that was a bit harder. I've been questioning for years. I narrowed down what it felt like my job was supposed to be, and then I knew things like size and fur length. "Border collies moved in a different way than I did, I didn't feel the watchfulness of a guardian breed, could tell that I was bigger than (insert small dog), but also smaller than something like a Great Dane. Certain markings felt right too, like the black mask of a Sable GSD or Malinois. Even though I loved stub tails, it felt like I should have one so Aussies were out of the question, and their fur was too long." Basically just crossing things out until I had a list of things that I was and then trying to match breeds based off of that! It can still be difficult and you don't have to be a PERFECT match of that breed because dogs still have their own personalities and experiences!
I think I'm some part working dog I've realized
Any other working dogs out there? How do you stay occupied so that you don't get so... yknow?
How did you figure out which kind of dog you were?
#hopefully that helps a little#sorry it's so long#digital things don't usually help my dog urges either#actually doing things with my hands and being out in the world helps SO much on the other hand#or even just in the house with actual physical objects#therian#caninekin#dogkin#dog therian#doghearted#therianthropy#canine kin#otherkin#entityspeaks
