This and all the other Dib analysis in the notes are absolutely fair and good takes but it's making me realize I was perhaps not clear enough. I realize Dib's motivations do indeed make perfect sense in the series- this was not a joke about Dib so much as it was about me

I think the most unrealistic thing to me about Invader Zim is the fact that Dib instantly hates Zim. Like maybe this is just me but if I was an elementary schooler that was obsessed with outer space and paranormal entities living in a borderline-dystopian corporate hellscape and my dad neglected me, I had no friends whatsoever, all of my classmates hated and bullied me for being weird, and nobody ever listened to me or took me seriously, and then one day an alien in disguise showed up in class that only I could tell was an alien, I would absolutely not declare myself his mortal enemy and try to capture him to have him killed and dissected for the good of the human race. I would beg to be his best friend and hope he would take me with him as the world blows up

#rbs #like yeah he *could* hunt Zim down to protect humanity and for validation and everything... but that definitely wouldn't be me #i could say a lot about dib and zim's dynamic in the series #like yeah dib is the good guy because his main goal is Not Wanting The World To End but he's also just an asshole sometimes #half the time zim's worst actions are directly prompted by dib egging him on intentional or not (see Dark Harvest and The Wettening)#and there was also the implication that even if zim weren't evil dib would probably still try to capture him #like we see him hunting a sasquatch that didn't even want to hurt anybody. he just sees a Creature and is determined to capture it #Enter the Florpus changes Dib to be a lot nicer i think which is a whole other thing #maybe I'll talk about this more later though #no hate to prev tags you're absolutely correct but i wanted to clarify myself
