Hey, I was wondering if you have a brush recommendation for CSP brushes for Lineart with good line weight? I'm trying to improve the weight of my lines, but I'm having a hard time finding brushes with the flexibility I'm looking for
That's a good question. There are all sorts of ways line weight is used and the right brush is different for each genre and style of drawing, I'd say.
To start: A lot of my lineart brushes are adjusted with slightly LESS brush size dynamics because I always felt like the original default CSP brushes (like the Mapping Pen and G-Pen) gave an unrealistic and uncontrollable amount just based on the their pressure settings.
Some people do use them well for specific styles, so they're not inherently bad. But I definitely think they're not friendly to beginners or people who just wanna pick up a pen and go draw rather than obsess over the precise way they're pushing down on their pen.
Tumblr media
More recent versions of Clip Studio Paint actually came with some new default brushes, including "Real G-Pen", which had pressure settings that felt more right to me. But it's a little noisy so its uses are a bit more specific.
I have a brush set included with EnpitsuP called Superclean Linework. Those are the ones I designed as cleanup brushes for anime-ish looking art. They come in several flavors: Densy, Softie, Smoothy, Sang. I varied them based on how I saw different artists preferred their lines: a bit on the sharp side? Slightly blurry? With a little bit of opacity fade? A little more line variation? Among these, Sang has the largest amount of size response.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ultimately, it may be a little bit of both a subjective experience and depend on what your hand/tablet/driver settings/style preferences are like. If you're having trouble finding a brush for this purpose, I think you should hone in on if you're not finding the right brush because every brush seemed too difficult to control, or you can't seem to get results you like, or you can't find one with a feel that matches the physical tool you're used to.
I think it's also worth noting that some artist's styles also rely a lot on them just changing their brush size setting depending on what part they're drawing. So you may end up needing a brush that has less pressure-size variation than you expect. My recommendation is always to look very closely when learning from someone else's linework example. Try to achieve it yourself side-by-side and see where it doesn't quite match up and ask yourself why. Or ask others why.
Of course, there are a bunch of other "lineweighty" brushes too outside of this genre of mostly-thin lineart.

EnpitsuP Jumbo WIP
Tumblr media
Currently testing a blunted jumbo pencil.
Tentative name: EnpitsuP Jumbo
I'm trying to incorporate some of the useful aspects of a jumbo Staedler pencil I recently got.
Surprisingly, the bigger pencils have a super noticeable taper to them but I'm not sure how/if I want to add it in digital form. (ie, what combination of pressure and tilt I want it to respond against and what the curves are)

Hello mono… can I perchance know what brushes you use
Tumblr media
HII SPOOK YEAH OFC but once again my use of brushes is always inconsistent so everytime you ask it might be a slightly different brush everytime but I've made a post about what type of brushes I use and have attached links too <3
BUT LIKE, if I have to specify, some brushes I really like using alot is like The "Cream Sketch 2" Brush from Cole's Pencil Pack
The "Suisai Sketch EnpitsuP PL" brush from PharanBrush's EnpitsuP set which is a brush I like using for sketching or just lineart in general (also heads up for the brush pack, it's 12 bucks for a reason cause theres like over 100 brushes in that pack)
BUT a brush pack which I've been loving alot recently that I got (and is also free) is this one!!
Tumblr media
it has alot of brushes for like inking, sketching, markers, watercolors etc, my favourite one I've been using alot is the "watercolor10" brush it just feels nice while coloring doodles
again my answer for what brushes I use is different every now and then cause I can't stick to one brush for a while but these are the ones I've been having the most fun with currently nods nods

im just curious (u dont need to answer / publish if u dont want to !) but do you sketch with a brush called analog pencil on csp.... the texture looks so similar to the brush i use and im trying to add more looseness to my lines so i was just wondering if it was the Same...
oh nope! i pretty much exclusively use my friend @pharanbrush brushes for csp these days, the one i use is enpitsu-p, its a replicated mechanical pencil! mine is kinda customized with how i like the pressure but its not far off from the default settings
u can buy em here >> https://pharan.gumroad.com/l/EnpitsuP?layout=profile
i rly reccommend them, pharan works rly hard on these brushes

DROP YOUR COMIC BRUSHES SENPAI‼️
HIMOG STRIDE POWER (HIMOG ZARA STRENGTH) - If my lineart looks really bold without much weight I'm using this. I prefer to use it for colour pieces. Hmm...'s pens are all super fucking good you could get the full inking suite from just them
Zaka/Sara pen - Another Hmm... icon. Use on larger canvases. Grainy as Hell
Gpen-Poi - Standard inkwork. I forgot how good this pen was when I started drawing B&W inks and I'm regretting it. Staple pen, good for smaller canvas space
Artist 21 - The hatching effects I use on the blacks in a lot of my comics come from this pack! I don't use the pencils themselves much though LOL. Has great tools but im scared to use them.
EnpitsuP - The pencils I use come from this pack. Extremely hyper-realistic.
Krupuk pack and Tapioca pack - But speaking of Pharan, GET THESE BRUSHES. Literally every type of medium you can fucking think of for dirt cheap. Greatest deal in the history of CSP brushes
Drawn Lines & Drawn Lines 2 - !! MUST HAVE !! for natural BG inks. There's a fuckton of these and they add so much natural jitter to your lines. I haven't been using them because i forgor 💀 Pack 1 is for lineart, Pack 2 is for shading
Dirty and Shadow Lines - Similar to Drawn Lines, a large pack of high-quality inks for adding character to your backgrounds. They go together very well.

hi i don't go here but your art ended up on my dash and it's just lovely, may i ask what brushes you used for your last piece? i love the watercolor effect and the lines are real nice too
Aw thank you so much!! So glad you liked it!! I used these watercolor brushes and the line brush was "RoughPaper EnpitsuP" from this pack!
For the watercolor brushes I definitely recommend kind of layering the colors, cause they're pretty transparent. I'll often do a layer that's the "actual" color of whatever the object is and then have another layer that acts as kind of an underpainting to make it pop more, e.g. for this guy his pink outfit has 1 layer for the light pink and another layer below that with some light blues and yellows ;O

hope this helps!!

What is your fav digital brush to draw?
I got more than one and thanks to the peeps who commissioned me in the past, I managed to have more of a footing to experiment with paid brushes! 🙏❤️
I'm very fickle and prone to changes, so it might not be the same next time but here are what I'm obsessed with so far!
On Procreate, my favorite brushes would be the sample set from TrueGrit Texture Supply for their halftone and texture brushes (which I did pay a $15 license later on so I can use for commercial works), and these free-to-download sets in Gumroad.
I used the latter religiously throughout the years for sketching and inking, as it was what got me dedicated to continue using procreate!
On Clip Studio, I really like this [Free] set because for something that looks like a basic brush, it is as smooth as butter! 🧈
The second brush is my favorite to do typography and sound fx in comics. I love the expressiveness and gritty texture.
Both, you've mainly seen in my use for my YBF arts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This one below is worth 10 Clippy, and I love how clean and gritty it is! You've seen me using this in more recent Broken Colors arts.
Tumblr media
I also have some favorites from here [PAID]:
For the price, you get a lot more for your money! These two are a favorite from there, and I'm a big fan of the pencils!
Tumblr media
Hope that answers your question and have a good one! 🌞

(oc Nera belongs to @/erojiji3)
I've been studying limited-tone colors and shadows and figured Leif was a good tool to use. But it wasn't doing what I needed it to do, or even what I imagined I originally wanted it to do, so I decided to make a few new brushes, as the new Leif set. (retiring most of the original ones in the process)
Currently just calling the new set Leif 2.
The new brushes, named "Leif Paint" (with variations on its shape) have been coming along nicely.
Yesterday, I drew this thing and was enjoying how the brushes were working for it.
Its primary purpose, making dabs of paint look leafy and generically brushy and nice, is definitely already there.
Tumblr media
As a paint-sketch and finalized painting tool, especially for shaping shadows, I think I still need to test some more but results have been promising so far.
I also made a separate drawing version of Leif Paint that may just end up in the EnpitsuP set. I guess it should just be included in the main Leif set too.

Would you be comfortable sharing the brushes you use in CSP or your process for digital art? It's amazing how you're able to replicate your traditional art style digitally!
Hi and thank you! That's quite a bit to cover but I'll try to give not too long an answer. Let me know if you want to know anything in more detail. Using a texture overlay in csp really helps with the overall "traditional" look, I tend to use "fine textured" which is included with csp. "EnpitsuP - Really Good Pencils and Drawing Brushes for Clip Studio Paint" Are a really good traditional looking pencil brush pack.
"Impasto natural oil brushes for PS CS5+" and "Expressive Watercolours" by Fausto Hault work in csp as well. Except the blending and mixing brushes. You can find them on Artstation. My current process for colour work is doing the values in grayscale or sepia. Setting those layers to multiply and doing the colour layers under them. Then adding colour to the value layers in whatever way looks best with the colours of the overall image. Then I mess with the colours and values with correction layers. Then once I'm mostly happy with those I'll render in the very darkest and lightest details over the line art with pencil brushes.

i LOVE your art and was just wondering if you wouldnt mind sharing what program and pen/pencil you use, i struggle to find a pen i enjoy drawing with and i like how loose and easy and soft your art is!
THANK TOU SO MUCH AAAA 😢💜💜 I appreciate that!! And, it really depends what art you're looking at I feel like I experiment with different things a lot. Some are drawn on a program called drawpile, some are in csp with a bunch of different things. The pencil looking ones are done with enpitsuP Brushes by @pharanbrush and some others might be the sai 2 brush found here (I think)
Mostly though, I really recommend pharan's brushes he's a friend of mine and he makes really nice ones that are pretty comfy imo. But I kinda jump around a bunch (at least lately)
