OCKiss 2024- Prompt Darkness
Opening scene from the first draft of Blood Harmony. There's a kiss in there, I promise!!
I didn’t feel pain; only the impact as the bullet lodged itself into my left shoulder.  I gritted my teeth, and forced myself onwards, ignoring the warmth of the blood as it ran down my arm, slicking my hand, where I had, by some miracle, managed to keep a grip of the knife.  My target, the Archeon Demon, lowered the silenced pistol, tucking it into his suit jacket. Several of the startled party guests, soaked by the sprinklers, ran past him, and for a second, I lost sight of him. I thought he would have used the scared herd to make his own escape, but as they made their way to the fire exit, he was still there.  His blue eyes met mine, and I could have sworn that the corners of his mouth twitched into a smile. He adjusted the cufflinks of his shirtsleeves, smoothing his navy blue suit. He stood like he had all the time in the world, nonchalant that I was about to send him back to hell.  “I assume that this is your doing, Mavis?” He had to shout to be heard over the fire alarm that rang out, and the screams of the fearful crowds that remained in the art gallery. Below me, I could hear the pops of gunfire as the rest of the Hunters made their way through the crowds, dealing with the lesser demons in the building.  With my free hand, I tried to push my thumb into my shoulder, stemming the bleeding, but only managed to lodge the bullet further into the shoulder socket.  Around me, the paint from the canvas was running down the walls, and several paintings had disintegrated due to the amount of water being released.  “Such a waste,” the Archeon shook his head sadly. His sandy hair was plastered to his head, and rivulets ran down his face into his neatly trimmed beard.  I didn’t have much time left; I could hear the others shouting. I hoped that most of the civilians had made it to safety.  A few casualties would be worth it; a regrettable price to pay for putting an end to the life of the Demon who stood before me.  I swung out as best as I could, but he simply stepped backwards out of my range, the knife not even slicing the material of his jacket.  He caught my wrist, twisting it painfully, and the blade fell from my bloodied hand. I winced in pain, as the fire tore up my arm to my shoulder.  With his other hand, he grabbed me by the neck and slammed me into the wall, knocking the wind from my lungs. Spots danced before my eyes as my head bounced against the exposed brickwork.  “It’s such a shame that we have to meet like this, Mave,” his eyes darted quickly, as if he was trying to study my face. I tried to pull myself free, but he was stronger, and had me in a firm grip. He hushed me, and shook his head sadly. “She never wanted this for you, you know that don’t you?”  “Go to back hell,” I bared my teeth at him, and tried again, in vain, to break free of his grip.  “It’s not a place I’ve actually been,” his lips quirked again into an almost-smile. “I have to admit that you’ve actually surprised me. I never thought James and his crew would ever dare to attack in public.” Good; I had to keep him talking. I could just run down the clock. I couldn’t look at my watch to know how much longer we had, but it couldn’t be long. I felt at peace; my sacrifice would allow my father to achieve our mission, and I’d have helped defeat an Archeon.  He kissed me, fiercely and passionately. His lips were pressed to mine, and the whiskers of his beard brushed against my face.  His eyes widened and he stumbled backward, clutching his abdomen. With the back of one hand, I wiped my lips, spitting out blood. With the other, I tossed away his gun that I had unloaded into him.  “I’ll see you in hell,” I gave him a bloody grin as the building shook as the first of the explosives we’d rigged to the supports blew.  The world ended in a flash of white, roaring heat, and then blackness.

(I have to answer this Like This because I am a clown who somehow turned her ask box off but thank U for still sending this despite that fact 😭) @clarasogatsby
Either way!!! Thank you so much for the message I love talking about these stupid characters and these ridiculous books—it keeps the Twilight gears turning in my brain which keeps the hyper-fixation strong 🤩🤩🤩
Do I think Alice hates her? I mean, she definitely doesn’t like Maria. I can’t imagine you’d have any fond feelings for anyone your vampire husband spent 80 years alongside, killing and fighting (and fucking?—if you go by movie canon), especially knowing how terrible the situation was, how depressed he was, and how much you may or may not have witnessed with your wild vamp super-powers in the time period before finding said vampire husband.
@volturialice and I were talking about it a little last week and agree that we definitely think Alice has some sort of reluctant allowance of Jasper to stay “on good terms” with Maria because I mean… If we’re going to look at positive things here: Maria did keep Jasper alive for 80-odd years, and she would be a very powerful/good ally to have (and because of that, would likely make a bit of a dangerous enemy, too).
(also I'm putting this under a read more bc I can't shut up apparently)
But what does “on good terms” with mean? THAT’S what’s fun. I don’t think they’re sending Christmas cards to each other, and I find it notable (and I, personally, hate) that Maria was absent during the Breaking Dawn Volturi confrontation. Did Alice and Jasper even attempt to get her as a witness? Did they try to and did she laugh in their faces? Did they avoid Mexico altogether during their mad dash to find proof of other hybrids? Would Maria’s presence have made things worse? 🤩 Thats what’s so FUN! You can play around with that so much. “Good terms” for someone with a background like Jasper’s might just mean “We aren’t actively plotting to kill one another; haha progress, y’know?” (Meanwhile Rosalie is in the background looking for their ‘Trauma And You’ books they keep in the living room as like, a coffee table book for their various vampire guests to look at.)
I personally lean towards that meaning that Jasper and Maria both consider the other one a valuable ally to have (worth more alive than dead) and will keep up a very, very loose and tense ‘acquaintance-ship’ because of this. I don’t think Alice likes her but will tolerate whatever link Jasper has to keep up with her because it’s better to be safe than sorry. Another important thing to note (and another thing that G brought up to me) was that in no way does Alice feel threatened by Maria’s existence, in any way. (I know people enjoy thinking that there’s some touch of jealousy or insecurity when it comes to Alice’s feelings about Maria—which is fine for fic! But it doesn’t track with her canon characterization.)
Alice has too much confidence and, thanks to her gift, too much assurance that she’ll see anything coming (Maria shenanigans included). Because of this I don’t think Jasper really HAS to “reason” with Alice on any front. If anything I can see it being some form of the reverse. For all we know Alice has seen 36638 visions of situations where having Maria around might help, meaning she could very well be the one forcing Jasper to play nice. (She also might have twice the amount of visions proving the opposite. Alice is practical though. People really are little chess pieces in her little Board of Life.)
Calgary is an INTENSELY fun thing to think and speculate about. Especially since Midnight Sun gifts us with the proof that Maria is “undeniably dangerous” and that after she’d “tracked them down” in Calgary they’d “had to move immediately.” Did she accidentally kill an ‘important’ human or implicate the Cullens while looking for a meal by sheer bad luck? Did she get silly and devious with her visit and orchestrate some dramatic way to get the Cullens to slip up and it worked? Did she put up a Midnight Sun-esque billboard reading “WARNING: LOCAL DOCTOR AND FAMILY ARE VAMPIRES”? Who knows! I personally head canon something a little more machiavellian; something that would’ve definitely made (at LEAST) Jasper slip. Something to prove that she may have some sort of impact or sway on him even after a period of time away from her and human blood. Maria pulling some sick power play just for funsies is what I imagine she’d do.
But again, Maria is fun because in Edward and Bella’s world (the world we’re told to care about) Maria isn’t a villain, she’s just a footnote in Jasper’s backstory. Who is just a footnote on Edward and Bella’s story if we’re being honest here. But as Jasper and Alice fans, we LOVE to dig deep into that because that’s a tie that links directly to them and is way too interesting to just ignore.
We (Jalice stans with taste) adore Maria because of 1) how MUCH potential her character is given with the little bit of information we receive and 2) she CAN be such a delightful antagonist to have because of the world she comes from and the life she leads. You can cast her in the role of ‘villain’ for fic purposes (as I have very notably done) but I don’t see her as a villain at all. I mean exactly what I say in this silly text post.
Remember, the Cullens are the only vampires who think murdering humans is ‘bad.’ It’s not illegal (for them, I mean). It’s their damn food source. And with their only law being “haha, keep it all on the DL you guys” then everything that Maria does is technically above board. She cleans up after herself, the humans don’t catch on, and if she gets to conquer some land in the meantime, then you go girl boss! 😌💅🏼
To wrap up: I don’t see Maria as a villain in canon at all, although she can be extremely fun to utilize as one in fic and in people’s personal canon. Mainly due to how interesting she is, and if she were a by-definition villain (or somehow, in some far off horrible future where smeyer continues writing Twilight books, if she ever became one) then I would only stan her 1000x as hard. I am a bimbo first, but a villain fucker second, and I would wholeheartedly welcome her with open arms if she ever got to be a fucked up mean little bitch in canon. (And then I’d die happy after she tore my throat out and I’d pray that she’d say something rude and demeaning about me over my bloodless corpse 🤩🤩🤩)

Blaine Colt → Jensen Ackles  → Hunter
→ Basic Information
Age: 38
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Straight
Birthday: April 21st
Zodiac Sign: Taurus
Religion: Irreligion
→ His Personality Blaine has a unique personality. As the head of the Chicago Colt family, Blaine lets off an intimidating air of dominance and control. He is extremely loyal to his family. He is highly intelligent, logical, clever, and a brilliant strategist; he can anticipate and preempt enemy plans. While he can be very intimidating, dangerous, and brutal, he is also a strangely charismatic man. Blaine can be very casual and calm when speaking to an ally but he has a temper that can frighten just about anybody; he is known for being a violent, sadistic, and murderous sociopath. Blaine is not one to make jokes or goof around. He is always true to himself and is a very honest and dependable man; it is not really in his nature to lie, even if his honesty is brutal. Blaine often shows little empathy and remorse, especially towards those who are supernaturals. He takes being a hunter seriously.
Blaine is typically ruthless, emotionless, and aggressive when he is hunting. Unlike many other hunters throughout the world, Blaine does not underestimate his enemies, he knows full well how dangerous and advanced supernaturals are. Hunting is a task which he approaches enthusiastically, making him the most merciless of the Colt family. Blaine is willing to kill children, women and elderly supernaturals. He can snap the necks of infants without thinking of his own children or torture a mated pair without comparing it to his wife and sympathizing. Blaine is known for his unorthodox methods for gaining information; most will likely trigger even the nastiest of souls. Despite these traits, Blaine is very likable and well-disposed when not on the hunt, and he values the safety of his family and innocent civilians above all else, even his own life. Blaine has a soft spot for children and teens in his family; more so his own. He is exceptionally good with them, very sympathetic and able to talk to them with ease. He is always willing to attend school or aftercare games and tournaments when he is not away on a hunt, volunteering to top off fluids in their vehicles before a long trip or simply leading them an ear to talk to and occasionally giving his input.
Blaine has extensive knowledge of who is who in Chicago and remains stern with his family to keep on terms with rival hunters and supernaturals in the surrounding area. Blaine leads the Colt far more liberally than his father had done. Blaine is very tolerant and farsighted, having no problems with people of other colors or sexual orientation as long as it is not rubbed in his face. His marriage with Imani Anderson, a part of a predominantly African American Hunter Family, has opened doors for his once alienated and hated family within the hunter community. Blaine knows of the name their family has built up for themselves, however, the connection with the Anderson family has also opened a gateway to the local human shifters. Blaine is wondering if their family should also adopt some of the Anderson ways.
→ His Personal Facts
Occupation: Head of Colt Family - Chicago
Scars: Multiple on Knuckles and Hands
Tattoos: A Basquiat Crown on Wrist (The 3 Colt Kings - Colin, Blaine & Bryce)
Two Likes: Restorations and Hunting
Two Dislikes: Dentists and Disorder
Two Fears: Allergic Reactions and Unfaithfulness
Two Hobbies: Home Improvement and Collector (Cars)
Three Positive Traits: Assertive, Disciplined, Diligent
Three Negative Traits: Over Protective, Aggressive, Controlling
→ His Connections Parent Names:
Bryce Colt (Father): Bryce did his best taking care of two boys after their mom was killed. Blaine always had a close relationship with his father. They are able to grab drinks together, go hunting together or simply watch the game on the big screen. Bryce taught Blaine that hunting is stressful enough without bringing it home to the family. Blaine shares in this philosophy with his wife and kids.
Regina Colt (Mother): Regina was killed during a hunt when Blaine was still young. He does not remember much about her but misses her very much.
Brittney Colt (Step-Mother): Brittney and Blaine started off on the wrong foot and it was never fixed. She came in trying to replace and erase his mom.
Sibling Names:
Colin Colt (Little Brother): The Colt brothers are quite formidable separately but they are a force to be reckoned with together. They shared a brotherly bond that Blaine thought could never be broken but lately the brothers have been at odds.
Elle Colt (Little Sister): Blaine was happy when he found out he was getting a sister. No matter how much she cried nor her spitting up on him as a baby, Blaine loved her. Elle running out on her engagement with the Stone Family has caused a lot of problems for Blaine. He says he wishes she would have just taken one for the team but he cares enough about his little sister not to be too harsh with her.
Alice Colt (Half-Sister): Blaine is closest with Alice out of all his half siblings. She used to follow him around as a kid and it shows. Alice is a perfect blend of their father and himself. Blaine tends to be harder on Alice because she has potential but they are two peas in a pot behind closed doors.
Casper Colt (Half-Brother): Blaine has a low tolerance when it comes to Casper. He reminds Blaine too much of Brittney. Blaine believes Casper will get someone killed if he becomes a hunter and his arrogant attitude has no place in the field.
Amy Colt (Half-Sister): Amy has always been closer to Elle. Blaine wanted to hurt Amy when she was young but their father pulled him aside and had the importance of family talk with him. Blaine was blaming Amy for the death of his mother and Amy’s mom, Brittney, not only replacing her but giving their dad another baby. Blaine quickly got over his hatred, ashamed of the way he acted.
Children Names:
Bryson Colt (Son): Bryson is showing a lot of promise. At the age of 6, Bryson can recite random species traits better than the ‘Baby Shark’ song. Bryson reminds Blaine of his relationship with his dad. Bryson is Blaine’s little helper.
Wesson Colt (Son): Wesson a hellion at the simple age of 4 and a half. Blaine swears Wesson is more Anderson than Colt and naming him after a gun was a horrible idea. Wesson keeps Blaine on his toes and Blaine knows Wesson is going to be one hell of a hunter when he is older and properly trained.
Orion Colt (Son): Akins twin brother. Blaine and Imani were trying one more time for a girl but were surprised to find out they were having twin boys. Blaine is grateful for his son and they brighten up his day. Orion has just turned 2 years old.
Akins Colt (Son): Orion twin brother. Blaine and Imani were trying one more time for a girl but were surprised to find out they were having twin boys. Blaine is grateful for his son and they brighten up his day. Akins has just turned 2 years old.
Romantic Connections:
Imani Colt nee Anderson (Wife): Imani was Blaine’s first real romantic connection. It was easier for him to sleep around instead of dating seriously until the day he agreed to do a joint hunt with the Anderson Hunter Family. Imani was not at all what he expected and she dominated their hunt; Blaine started to actively pursue her afterwards. They dated for a long period before deciding to get married.
Platonic Connections:
Hailey Colt (Cousin): Blaine is at a loss for what to do with Hailey. He knows being assigned at Lilly’s is not a desirable permanent position, especially with her skills, but there isn’t much for her to do for the family. He’s asked Elle to see about having her train with Amy, or possibly as a hacker.
Iris Colt (Cousin): Iris was the perfect solution when James Stone reached out to form an alliance again. He is grateful she is going along with it, and that she has made a good impression on the Stones.
Megan Colt (Cousin): Megan is closer to Blaine age than Iris and Hailey. Their relationship is strong and Blaine sees her as another sister. As Blaine took on more responsibilities, their relationship did slow down, Megan started hanging out more with Amy and Elle but Blaine still considers her a close friend.
D.W Colt (Sister-In-Law): Blaine is starting to doubt D.W. after Imani, Amy, and Alice all brought their concerns to him. They rushed her vetting process because she was the first person that Colin had fallen for in a long time. He doesn’t want to offend Colin, or damage their relationship anymore, but all of Colin’s defenses for her are becoming thinner as the months drag on. He is considering having someone less connected to the Chicago family investigate.
Ebony Anderson (Sister-In-Law): Blaine like Ebony. Ebony encouraged Imani to start dating Blaine and has always been supportive of their relationship.
Grant Anderson (Father-In-Law): Blaine’s marriage to Imani was not arranged. He was surprised when Grant seemed to accept him as his new son-in-law. They often attend basketball games together or attend car or gun shows together.
Trevon Anderson (Friend): Trevon is Imani’s cousin and seems to have the same views as Blaine’s family insteads of his own, the Andersons.
Thea Stone (Friend): Blaine knew Thea before she married into the Colt family. She could have done better and they joke about it all the times
Alexus Anderson (Hunter Ally): Blaine has known Alexus for most of his life.
Churchill Darling (Reluctant Ally): Blaine works alongside the human shifters second in command when his family needs information or the law cannot touch certain supernaturals; including when clan leaders refuse to serve justice.
Arthur Milligan (Acquaintance): Blaine met D.W friend on a few occasions. They have not really talked and Blaine does not remember much about him.
Lillian Pickford (Acquaintance): Blaine met D.W friend on a few occasions. They have not really talked and Blaine does not remember much about her.
Hostile Connections:
James Stone (Hate): Blaine has never liked James Stone. They have always bumped heads. Blaine had even tried to partner up with James on a hunt when they were both junior hunters and James nearly got them both killed. He has tried not to hold a grudge against the Stone family that his ancestors once had but James had made it nearly impossible. Blaine ignores him as much as he can now.
Eric Lasiter (Dislike): Eric believes Imani screwed him out of a deal. Blaine has wanted to set him straight for a while but Imani swears she will handle it and Blaine has backed off. His dislike for the warlock however has not lessened.
Paul Stone (Unsure): Paul was chosen to forge an alliance with the Stone Hunter Family. He was the only available and suitable Stone male for Iris. Blaine knows that they have hit it off but Paul has yet made it a point to get to know their side of the family while Iris has been sharing pleasantries with the Stones.
Shelton Mills (Unknown): Blaine is aware of the rat shifters in Chicago. He is also aware that they give hunters a wide berth compared to the rats activity reported around other supernaturals. It has taken his family years to get him the name of the lead rat in charge of watching over his family and hunters in general. Blaine is unsure what his next move is with this information besides calling out the name next time he sees a rat watching him from across the street.
Dan Prior (Unsure): Everyone knows the story of Dan Prior. The human that said no and was changed anyways as punishment. Blaine’s father tried to work Dan cases with the Stone Family multiple times and had gotten nowhere. Blaine was 8 years old when it happened and still to this day, he has kept an eye on Dan.
