Given how spite reacts to Manfred disappearing just... imagining how he would react to rook being missing. Just demanding over and over "where. Is rook." Y'know...his favorite... Lucanis having to answer that question over and over again as the weeks go by... yeah

Can I just point out that Emmrich is a fking nerd?

I bet half the crap he does and says on the romance path is because he read it worked in a book.

When he is in control of the outcome, he is secure, uses pretty words, and confidently goes about trying to dazzle the fk out of Rook. I mean look at that smooth mtherfker.

And then Rook makes him constantly break that act by blowing his dang mind. He's got to process and reorient himself to find more words again. I'm convinced this is what actually attracted him to Rook, tbh. The fact this person can just swoop in and knock the words straight out of his mouth. He must be used to giving it, not getting it. Dammit Rook.

And you know the romance scene? I imagine this man went to the Necropolis to get his fellow Mourn Watchers on board with the plan to retake Minrathous, which doesn't take long at all because Myrna and Vorgoth are already of mind to join, so now he has all this extra time. So he finds a secluded spot, cleans it up, places the same flower (Shroud's Kiss) around the sarcophagus (you can see them!), then goes back to grab Rook and bring them straight there to "check for anything left over from the curse Solas left on Rook." Convenient excuse.

I bet he got that idea from a romance novel, too.

Mortal Emmrich is like "Darling, we are doing this before I lose my chance with you again," but the man is so nervous he still makes poor Rook make the first move anyway. Silly.

Lich Emmrich is more like "fk this is just a glamour... What now? How does one kiss a skull?? I DONT HAVE ORGANS!! Rook, help! I have angst! Oh- right reminding me for the upteenth time that you're into it, you little weirdo. Idk how this will work but fk it we ball."

Poor Rook. No matter if they are experienced or not they still gotta take the reins.

My favourite thing about Emmrich is that he’s pretty fucked up and it wouldn’t be a stretch to suspect he uses his work with the Mourn Watch to deal with it. Many of the funeral professionals I’ve worked with (myself included) were drawn to the work in the first place by their own experiences with death or other traumatizing experiences: a profound loss, wanting to understand and not fear mortality, feeling like they owe this service to society etc. Things that go beyond a morbid fascination with death (though there’s that too.)

It’s taking your fear and grief and sadness and turning it into something useful so you can help people navigate the baffling variety of emotions that death drags along with it because you’re intimately familiar with them yourself.

Besides, you can’t let your own fears and traumas overwhelm and break you when you’re too busy taking care of people who are counting on you to take care of them. Unfortunately that means you’re also not actually ever confronting those fears and traumas either, but hey… it’s safe.

I put together all the Emmrich cutscenes for his quest, main story and romance. I also included whatever party banter (there’s so much Emmrich x Lucanis banter) I could find. It came out to around 3 hours and 13 minutes. I’m not sure if it’s because Emmrich loves to talk or not. I’m planning to do Davrin next and see, but Lucanis was around 1 hour and 36 minutes 🥲 I don’t understand why they sleep on some characters and give others plenty of content. Regardless, I was happy with Emmrich’s romance. It was so sweet and I loved that you could at least ask his favourite colour 💕

Emmrich: It seems the sensation is located in my memory, rather than any actual "muscle."

Taash: Oh. Right. Maybe ask Neve to do her magic on it. Magic ice for magic muscle?

i need to see more fics exploring emmrichs fear of death (i might just do it)

it doesn’t go away, it’s a very hard fear for for many to get over. but imagine a rook who’s not afraid of death. who knows that yes, their time will ultimately come to a close. but their not afraid of it. who knows that they (at least consciously) will stop existing, but not being afraid of the dark, because no matter how they lived they lived a life they worked for. when it came to making the choice each morning they woke up, they chose to live. their not afraid of the time they wont have with emmrich, but rather the time they do have. the precious sanctity of morality that leaves each moment engrained in their brain to replay for the time when he is gone. that death is just a physical change, and that the emmrich will continue to live on not only in their memories, but the actions and effects he’s had on others.

to see emmrich come to a comfort with that, with their lack of fear. not a rook who chases a death with risk, but a rook who looks at deaths grace and replies “your just on time” as they gently take their hand.

as someone who’s in the death investigation field/education, i cannot imagine how emmrich feels being afraid of death in a mortuary practice. im well aware of it in its most brutal forms, and have never had the fear (even as a wee lad), but i think their is some relief knowing you have a partner who can look at the fear you have, look it dead in the eyes, and say hello.
