Summary: Colonel is finally out of the picture and Elvis and Honey embark on a new journey together
Warning: Swearing
Note: It's been a long ride guys. Sad to see her go, but excited to move on to new things. I hope you liked this series and maybe even could relate to my work or characters in some way. And lastly, as promised, a happy ending ❤️

In the end, Elvis and I finally left Colonel, and with the help of his little mafia crew we were able to pay off his debt and leave him for good. Luckily, I was able to calm Elvis down before he did something radical to The Colonel or to his career. Soon enough, Elvis was back touring around America, making back his fortune like it was nothing.
We’ve been on the road for about 2 weeks now and I was in the audience each and every time to support my husband. But one day I decided I could use a break from the same set list and started looking into some of the other performers in town that night. There were a few concerts going on, so the city was filled with talent and I wanted to expand my music taste and knowledge. I, of course, was immediately stopped on my way out by a man dressed in a red jumpsuit and shiny, gold jewelry.
“Where you think you’re going?” Elvis questions, backing me into a nearby wall in the hallway of our hotel. He smirks while he traps me between the hard plaster and his body.
I shrug guiltily. “Was thinkin bout goin to see a show or somethin.”
He furrows his brows. “Why?” He asks, genuinely not understanding.
I laugh at his confused expression. “Why? I wanna hear some new music, baby, that’s why.”
“Why you wanna see anybody else perform when you got me every night?” And that’s when I knew I’d be seeing his show again tonight.
He grabs my chin, swiping his thumb across the skin just below my bottom lip and meets my eyes in a tender gaze. “I need my Bumble out there in the audience. S’nice looking out there, seeing my wife all giggly over my moves.”
I smile, a new title I have yet to get used to. A deep blush rises to my cheeks, and I immediately try to hide it away. He wants none of this behavior and follows my embarrassed expression with his eyes and begins kissing all over my face until I turn towards him again. “Elvis, please, someone could come out of their room and see us.” I say with a giggle, still trying to escape the tickle of his kisses.
“I don’t give a damn, I’m tryna give some sugar to my lil’ mama.” He grumbles against my neck, eventually pulling away to meet my eyes. “Come to rehearsal with me.” My eyes widen. Usually he likes rehearsing with just him in his band, I assume so he can concentrate better, why does he suddenly want me there?
I follow his guiding hand through the hotel and to the back of the stage, where I find Charles already waiting, flirting with some of the backstage girls. I roll my eyes. So many people didn’t believe me when I said he was Elvis’ boy, look at him now.  Still, it’s weird seeing him look and act so grown now.
Elvis takes me out onto the stage, which shoots nervousness through my veins despite the seats in front of me being empty. The room is huge when I’m in the crowd, but from this angle it’s ginormous.
A clunk echoes through the speakers and I turn to see Elvis messing with his microphone. “Honey bun, come ’ere for a sec.” He wiggles his fingers to gesture me over and I come, smiling at his band as I pass them by. “Sing som’in for me.” He demands softly and casually. My stomach drops at the words and I look at him like he’s crazy as he forces the microphone between my hands. I gulp nervously at the piece of equipment in my grasp. You’d think after doing this so many times, it’d start to get easier but it never does. “Come on, show em that smooth like honey voice.” He smiles flirtatiously, thumbing over my shoulder nearest him.
My mind only flashes with his songs, so I settle for one on the set list tonight. I start, singing softly into the microphone, feeling awkward that I had no music to sing to, but once the band recognizes the song, they happily join in. I smile, singing slow and seductively in a teasing way towards Elvis, which he responds to with a warning of a head shake, but a smile nonetheless.
I couldn’t help but laugh at our difference in styles however. Growing up we heard the same music. The blues of the house parties and the gospel of the church. Funny how our paths diverged. While his heart followed the church over time, mine stayed in the dirty pit of that house party. While I continuously sang about desire like a temptress, I remained, mostly anyways, inexperienced and pure. While he sang about the heavens with his angelic voice, he reeked of lust. He was the perfect balance between sinful and godly.
“Baby.” He says, pulling me close once I finish singing for him.
I lower the microphone, holding onto his arms. “Yes?”
“Sing backup for me.”
My eyes nearly pop out of their sockets. “What?”
He chuckles at my dumbfounded face, wrapping his arms around me and dropping his voice into a whisper. “You can sing back up with the Sweet Inspirations. Your voice fits right in and I want you to be my lead girl.”
I pause. “Are you serious?” I ask through the hopeful grin pulling at my lips.
He smiles back at me, pleased by my reaction. “More serious than I’ll ever be.” A hum vibrates through my throat as he places a kiss on my forehead. “I want you to sing for me. That way I can keep a better eye on ya too.” He says with a wink.
-
The next few days we spent back on the road, which was exhausting, but thrilling. Now that I was a backup singer I got to experience the concerts in a whole new way that I never imagined, not to mention I got to stare at Elvis’ ass for hours each show. I loved being able to watch him get lost in the passion of the music from up close, and he’d tell me he felt more at ease knowing I was always close by. It’s cute he worries so much, but better than that, I was back in business.
“There she is.” Elvis greets me with open arms a few minutes before showtime. He takes in the dazzling, golden dress I have on, a dress that reminded me of the one I wore for my first performance when I was a young girl.
And like that, we were on the stage again, back in Vegas as usual. He sang his normal songs, but now with my voice following close behind him. We even recorded a few duets together while I was learning how to record songs on my own.
He stands before the crowd with his arms out, taking in the applause as he finishes his song. The clapping comes to a slow and he raises the mic back to his lips. “Thank you everyone.” He says out of breath, slowly taking backward steps. “but I wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for my baby.” And with that, his hand extends for mine which I happily take with a big, cheesy smile on my face. “Honey, lay me down some sugar, baby.” His head reaches around my mic and I meet him for a kiss, causing the crowd to go wild.
Of course, people still had things to say, when didn’t they, but after this long we learned to easily ignore them. My dreams had come true and that’s all that mattered now.
Speaking of dreams, now that Charles was growing into a teenager, he started taking his acting passions more seriously and with the help of Jerry, started landing some small parts in films to get him started. He was already becoming a such heartthrob in the eyes of many, just like his dad.
Once the show is over, Elvis and I take a walk down one of the lone streets near the Bellagio to catch a glimpse of the giant water fountain while it dances in the night above the crowd of all the other watchers. It was just one of our ways of cooling down after a show and getting some alone time away from all the noise.
He leans over the barrier, resting his elbows on the concrete fencing. “You know everybody always wanted me to be their superhero, but I only ever wanted to be yours.”
I turn from my spot, meeting his eyes, watching the nightlife reflect off his blue orbs. “Lotta people wanted me to be their princess, but I only wanted to be saved by one superhero.”
He hums in response, now looking down at me. “And who would that be?” He asks with a smirk, already knowing the answer.
I shake my head with a smile, sneaking under his warm arm. “You know who.” I whisper.
He kisses the top of my head with a chuckle, before resting his cheek against my forehead. “I finally got my baby. I can die happy now.” He wraps his other arm around me, causing me to smile while I close my eyes and return his embrace.
At this moment I had no other care in the world. For once I felt unstoppable, and after years of feeling powerless and letting others make me feel unworthy, I finally found my way in the world. I had relived my parents' love story and came out victorious and I can only hope they’re somewhere up there proud that I accomplished what they never could. It took work and loss, but I’m free now. Free to love.
“You and me against the world, baby.”

"Alright Nat, Alright Jerry... See you two tomorrow," Elvis smiled, walking into his hotel room. His knees nearly gave out from all his dancing. It was his most intense show yet, but he was ready to celebrate, "Alright, Midge, Cheryl, same time tomorrow!" Cecelia smiled as she walked in and closed the door behind her, her eyes barely staying open, "Hey baby," Elvis smirked, pulling into him as he kissed her forehead, "Hey sugar..." She blushed at him as she looked at his messy hair and felt the remaining sweat on his skin, "Had a good show?" they asked each other,
"A fan threw her necklace at me." Elvis smiled, "What about you?"
"Panties, men's underwear, and a bra?" Cecelia laughed as Elvis chuckled, "Some crowd," He joked as he unzipped her dress, his lips on the nape of her neck as she moaned, "Elvis, we're both sweaty..." She groaned,
"Adds more flavor." He kissed her cheek as she felt her dress fall to her knees,
"Besides, we should be celebrating tonight..."
"Sure, if you can keep your eyes open, Mr. Presley..." She joked as she lightly pushed him towards the bathtub. "Wait for me?"
"I make no promises!" She joked as she threw her bra, Elvis catching it as he winked,
"I'm keepin this."
"ELVIS!" She laughed, buttoning up his silk pajama top. It was one of those nights where she didn't feel like putting her nighty on. Laying on the bed, Cecelia watched TV as she kept nodding off and waking up. It was as if the adrenaline from the show was keeping her up,
 "El, you okay in there?"
"Yeah, what's wrong, honey?"
"Adrenaline rush..." She playfully sighed,
"You too, huh?" He chuckled, drying off as Cecelia handed him his pants, "See, you took the top." she shrugged, patting a spot next to her. Elvis was lying on her chest as her hands tangled into his hair,
"What day are you going to see my show?" Elvis asked,
"I wanted to surprise you..." She sighed,
"Well, then I'll surprise you too." He kissed her wrist as she giggled,
 "El..."
"Hmm..."
"you ever wonder if there's life on Mars?"
"Cece?"
"Hmm..."
"Go to bed." He laughed,
"But I can't," she rolled over as her top road up, showing off her silk panties, his bottom lip under his teeth as he swatted at her ass, "El!" she blushed as he pulled her onto him, "Yes, honey?" He pretended to be clueless as Cecelia playfully swatted at him,
"You think sex might..."
"It's the answer to everything." He winked as he kissed her with a firey, passionate frenzy. Her eyes closed as she gave him the same intense kiss back. His hand was massaging her breast as the other was on her thigh,
"Still wanna celebrate?" Cecelia smirked,
"Do you have to ask?" He winked as she blushed, "Not really," She chuckled as Elvis trailed kisses down her neck, another moan leaving her sweet lips as he shuttered,
 "You know something..."
"Hmm..."
"Every time I make love to ya. I feel like I'm young again,"
"Oh, Elvis..." She blushed, "You mean it?"
"Would I lie to you..."
Well... Oh!" She gasped as she felt his fingers plunge into her soaking wet cavern, small mewls and sighs escaping her. Sliding in and out between her thighs, Elvis had stopped, leaving her lips lonely as he then crawled between her legs,
"Baby, you don't have to ah~ Oh~ God~" She began to drift off in between her moans as she felt him sucking on her clit.
"Honey..."
"Hmm?"
"Is my eatin putting you to sleep?"
"No, you've just got a soothing tongue is all," She giggled as Elvis smirked, "First I've heard that," He laughed kissing her inner thigh, "Should I keep going?"
"Please..." She yawned as Elvis was wired for sound, taking his pants off and pulling himself out, he slid himself inside as his wife looked at him with a tired sexy haze,
 "Ready..."
"Ready." Thrusting his hips into her, Elvis could hear her soft moans, sweet and gentle, just like his thrust, "More..." she had begun to moan as Elvis was revved up like an animal in heat, "Like that baby..." He kissed her face, "Mhmm..." Picking up his pace he began to hear a sound he hadn't recognized from his wife before, her eyes were closed, and her stomach going up and down, she was asleep, and here he was buried deep inside his wife, pulling out Elvis went to the bathroom to finish off and clean up as he heard her whimper,
"Yes, baby?"
"Come back..." She murmured, as Elvis held her close, the TV playing in the background. His fingers in her curls as she mumbled,
"Love you~"
"Love you too..."
*Bonus*
7 am
The birds began to chirp outside as the TV rushed back on with news about the Presleys in Vegas, but wired for sound was Cece who was kissing Elvis's kneck,
 "Baby... You up..."
"Hmm..."
"Thought we could have round 2..." She said in his ear as he grumbled a bit from lack of sleep, "Baby we didn't even get to round one last night..." He flopped back into the pillow,
"We didn't?"
"You fell asleep as soon as I got inside," He laughed as she blushed, "I did..." He nodded his head, Elvis wasn't much of a morning person due to his bad insomnia, but that would soon change, "Well, baby I'm gonna go back to-" Elvis felt something wet as he heard slurping noises his blood rushing through his veins as he jolted up, "Who's sleepin now..." Cecelia smirked looking up at him from under the covers.
"Neither of us if you keep doing that..." He blushed,

"I'll get it!" Carlotta shouted, hearing the phone ring. Carlotta Moreno was many things to Cecelia, her drummer. Her friend, right now, was helping comfort Cecelia while Elvis was away in Bootcamp,
"Presley..."
"Moreno..." Elvis sighed, "Is Cece near?" Elvis asked as Carlotta rolled her eyes, "She's helping your mama with something," Her accent sounded like venom to him,
"I see could you tell my fiance I-"
"I miss you too, El..." Cecelia said, taking the phone from Carlotta as Rosa watched alongside Gladys and Vernon. Cecelia had been wrapping the chord around her finger as she giggled,
"Say, how's my favorite girl?"
"Well, mama's doing fine, but as for me, not good..."
"What's wrong honey?" Elvis was worried as he heard her tone of voice shift.
"You're not here, and it's getting lonely."
"I'm here..." Carlotta mouthed as Cecelia pushed her away playfully,
"I feel the same. I mean, the guys treat me regular sometimes, but I uhm miss your kisses and your honey biscuits."
"Which biscuits are we talkin about?" Cecelia smirked as Gladys cleared her throat playfully,
"Was that my mama..." He blushed as she responded to him. Elvis missed home. He missed his family, his friends, his fiance, but. Elvis knew that in two years. He'd be back, and everything would be back to normal. He'd be asleep with Cecelia on his chest and a nice breakfast.
"Private Presley!"
"I gotta go, Cece."
"Call me this weekend when you get to Fadal's?"
"Always." Hanging up the phone, Rosa and Gladys swooned as Carlotta groaned,
March 1958 Fort Hood, Texas
"Who was that?" A few of the soldiers whistled as Elvis laughed, his face flushed with a rosy tint of red, "Oh, his lady friend?" Another soldier said as Elvis shrugged, "You could say that." He winked as he followed them into the mess hall. Boot camp was taxing and tiring, and as much as he could try to pretend to like it, he didn't. His body ached sometimes, and he'd remember how Cecelia would have told him not to be so rough on himself. Or how she'd be kissing the sore spots on his body with her "Magic" kisses on his skin. But when it came to him going to sleep, he'd imagine he was at home with his cousins and his mama and daddy and his grandmother and his Cecelia, who'd be tucked in his arms singing him songs. But it wasn't the same. He'd stare at the ceiling and count sheep or softly play his guitar. He'd re-read her letters or look at the picture clippings of her that he had on his wall, like a man with a pinup girl, except his pinup was Cecelia.
"I mean... She's amazing," Elvis blushed, sitting on his bed, "I'm gonna marry her when I come back." He looked at her picture as the men began to laugh,
"No offense, Presley, but you're definitely tired." One of the soldiers laughed,
"I mean it, I'm gonna make her Mrs. Presley."
"Don't think that's possible," another voice said, that belonged to a black soldier. "But you got good taste." He smirked as Elvis laughed if only they knew he was serious about it,
March 1958 Memphis, Tennesse
"So I was thinking Pink as a wedding color because Elvis and I like pink!" Cecelia squealed, flopping on the white couch as Daphane, Rosa, and Carlotta sat by her feet, "So blush and bashful?" Daphne asked as Cecelia nodded,
"Yeah... and a Christmas wedding, we'll get married in a chapel and-"
"And you'll kiss him in front of me..." Carlotta mumbled as Cecelia sighed,
"Lottie..."
"Cece..." She looked up at her as Cecelia sighed. In her eyes were their forbidden youth together,
"We're going to bed, Cece..." Rosa mentioned as Daphne followed, "Night girls." She waved as Carlotta stood looking at her,
"Now, back to us..."
"There is no us..." Cecelia looked at her, "I love Elvis, and you know that." Carlotta got close to her. Cecelia could smell her perfume on her skin,
"Mi vida..."
"Elvis is my fiance. You were a fling in the past..."
"Why must you say these things..."
"Because I don't like girls." Saying that broke Carlotta's heart, but it broke hers too. She was lying to herself, and they both knew it,
"So you told Rosa the same thing, huh?"
"Rosa's got a thing for Scotty, and I'm getting married to Elvis," She blushed hard as Carlotta pulled her closer to herself, their eyes meeting as her hand was on her cheek,
"Surrender to me, let's run away..."
"To Texas..." Cecelia gasped, "Carlotta Mi amour, you are a genius !" she kissed her as Carlotta grinned, "I'm going to Texas to see my Elvis!"
"I got a kiss..."
July 1958 Fort Hood, Texas
It had been a few months now, and Elvis was adjusting. He'd go to Fadal's to hide out on the weekends and home to his family on the weekdays to make sure everyone was okay. But he was still missing someone, though he didn't want to sound like he was complaining. Cecelia's Pink Ford was in the wind as Daphne was sleeping in the back, and Rosa and Carlotta were humming to songs,
"I don't see why you're so happy-go-lucky about Elvis..."
"Two things, Coca-Cola and a Quarter," Rosa mentioned as Cecelia blushed. Rosa chuckled as Carlotta was confused, "What does a soda have to do with Elvis?" Carlotta asked as Rosa smirked, turning to face her,
"Well, my little Latin Lover... It's more like his Cock- a Cola and-"
"Okay, no more talkin about my fiance's soda pop plus a quarter and then some." Cecelia blushed as they got to Fadal's place. Cecelia and Fadal had been great friends. Thanks to her mother and promotional skills, no one would know that Cece and her Vagabonds The Garnets were in town, not even Elvis. Now, like herself, Elvis hated surprises, but she figured he'd like this one.
"So... wait, were we talking about his Polla..." Carlotta questioned,
"You'd rather take a Coke bottle than my fingers..." She questioned as they walked up the driveway,
"Sometimes.... Cecelia wasn't listening as she kept walking towards the door,
"You know I could go for a nice tall glass of Coke-" the door had opened as Elvis was still in uniform. His hair was cut lower than what she was used to, but something in her wanted to hold him,
"That's the coke you want?"
"It's not abou the bottle, Carlotta. It's about the flavor... Good night, girls!" Cecelia said as she was in Elvis's arms,
"Someone's thirsty..." Rosa smirked as they walked away,
"What was that about?" Elvis asked as he held Cecelia in his arms, "Oh, nothing, baby... nothing..."She blushed as she kissed him, his hands in her hair as he kissed her sweet lips,
"You look beautiful..."
"And you look tired." She rubbed circles on his cheeks as he leaned into her touch, "Couldn't sleep without'cha." His crooked smile warmed her heart,
"Then let's get you out of this uniform and in bed."
"Yes, captain..."
*Bonus *
"Then I was playin' guitar and I-I..." Cecelia looked down as she heard him snore, "Elvis...Elvis!" She shouted. Softly, he woke up,
 "Huh?"
"Did you fall asleep with a sandwich in your mouth?"
"What! No!..." He looked down as she laughed, "Maybe I did..." He kissed her arm and snuggled into her, taking in her scent. There was nothing like being in the arms of the woman he loved.

Memphis May 1953
The spring winds of Memphis blew as a pink Chevrolet Bel Air was parked in the parking lot of Humes High School. A place where this one particular student knew she wouldn't belong. Getting her books from the back seat, she dusted off her skirt, looked at her watch, and took a deep breath. Until she realized she was almost late for her first day of school, and she couldn't be late, at least not as the new kid in town!
The hustle and bustle of everyone was different from when she lived in Georgia, where everything was a bit slow-paced. And with a mix of a few faces that looked like hers. But here it seemed she was the only face that. Well, looked like hers, and the glares she was getting had explained that very clearly. Her saddle shoes kept walking down the hallway until she finally found her homeroom. The glares and stares were harsh, but she continued inside until all eyes were on her. Whispers all around the classroom, some of the students pointing and laughing at her,
"I think she got on the wrong bus..."
"Whys her hair all like that?"
"Must have stolen that dress..."
"Class..."
"Class..."
"CLASS!" The room was silent,
"Class, I want everyone to meet Cecelia Shanel Valmos. She's our new student, Welcome..."
"Thank you. You know a fun fact about myself is I like comics and-"
"Now attendance."
Cecelia sat in the back of the Class, where a few students had glanced at her as if she carried the fleas. It was starting to get as bad as when they had driven here to Memphis.
Tapping her fingers, Cecelia could tell this would be a stressful time. And she couldn't wait to move to Nashville with her glammy, her grandmother.
As the bell rang, Cecelia went to her arithmetic class. Her least favorite subject. But very well needed. At least, it was what Midge told her, looking over the checks she'd signed for Valmos Music and Sound. Taking her seat in the back, Cecelia had begun to read her Batman comic book. Other students filled the room, talking and chattering as she flipped the page on the Joker's crazy antics.
"You're late..."
"S-S-Sorry, I ain't mean to be late, I just..."
" Lost track of time, Mr. Presley." The teacher sighed, following his gaze as his eyes landed on the tawny-skinned girl with dark brown hair curled up in a tall style.
"Take your seat, Mr. Presley..."
Sitting next to Cecelia was a kid who had to be about her age. She couldn't tell, and she didn't want to ask. She figured, at this point, her breathing would cause a problem. But something about him was different, after all. He had blondish brown hair and fading black roots. And he smelled like shoe polish. He also had rolled-up jeans and loafers with pink socks, the same color as hers.
"Is that the 3-D edition..."
"Yeah, it is..." Cecelia kept reading,
"I-I've been tryin to find that one for weeks."
"Found it at a comic shop in Chattanooga." she huffed. She wasn't annoyed that he was talking to her, just while she was reading her comics.
"Am I botherin you, doll..."
"A little, and I'm not your-" Cecelia looked up, seeing eyes bluer than James Dean's and a cute but crooked smile that seemed so shy yet so sweet.
"Are you okay? You're starin'?"
"Sorry, I'm new here, and it's stressful, and I don't have any friends and-"
"Mind if I be your friend..."
"I wouldn't mind that at all ah..."
"Elvis Presley... But u-uh, most everyone calls me, well no one calls me anything cept for Red West, who calls me E..."
"Well, I'll call you Pres." She smiled, "I'm Cecelia Valmos, by the way." she winked at him as he blushed a little,
"I'll call you Cece..." he tried to wink back at her, but his hair got in his eyes. Cecelia giggled a bit, "I like it." she grinned. Elvis could feel his heart beat faster, trying to push the emotions aside as he looked into her hazel eyes. Finally, he might not have been so alone in the world.
"So, favorite superhero..."
"Easy, Jay Garrick," she smirked, "What about you?"
"Captain Marvel Jr." he grinned, "Sometimes I imagine myself as him."
"Flying to the rock of eternity ..." Cecelia smiled back at him,
"Yeah."
"I used to think I was the Flash until I bumped into a wall." she snorted a bit when she laughed, and she could hear the teacher clearing her throat. Cecelia mouthed sorry as she went back to take her notes.
"Do you understand any of that..."
"Nope..." Cecelia laughed, "But I do know. That, that answer should be 35." Elvis laughed as he changed it,
"You're a lifesaver." He blushed, his accent thick, but Cecelia found it cute,
The bell rang again as they got up and went to their next class. Elvis and Cecelia were walking side by side, still talking. It was beginning to feel like she had known this kid since childhood, which was nicer than what she had been recently feeling.
"I love the color pink. " Elvis smiled,
"My car is pink!"
"No way!"
"It's a Bel Air." she winked,
" You're too cool for me, Cece." He joked as Cecelia nudged him,
"Honestly, I'm just me." she shrugged,
"Again, too cool for me, "He nudged her back as she laughed with him.
"Say, would you care to eat lunch with me?
"Yeah, sure, I ain't got much but-"
"You can have some of my lunch."
"Cece, I couldn't."
"I usually don't eat it all."
"You sure?"
"Positive."
Sitting alone at the table was Cecelia and Elvis, who were enjoying their lunch together. It was nice to know that he wasn't afraid to go against the normal and politically correct, but instead eat with someone who wouldn't bully him.
"So, how was your first day here so far."
"Eh, crappy..." she sighed,
"The bullies stop eventually." He sighed as Cecelia looked over at him,
"Easy for you to say, I got called a teacher's pet 'cause I knew all the answers in my history class... Not my fault some of us read for fun." she mumbled to herself, "Or in my typing class, I typed over several words a minute. And yet I'm wrong... Well, excuse me for writing songs when I'm bored!" she began to get angry as Elvis looked at her.
"At least you've passed your typing lessons on the first day." He joked, "I got a C in that, which ain't bad..."
"But it's not good, Pres." she looked at him.
"Well, maybe you could tutor me."
"To type? Sure." she smiled, splitting her candy bar with him. The two cheered each other with their Pepsi-Cola bottles.
When the day was over, Cecelia went to her car as she saw Elvis walk to his car,
"Nice 41 Lincoln!" she waved as she was next to her pink beauty. It suited her well. He thought to himself as she got in,
"See you tomorrow, right?"
"Yeah!"
Dinner was on the table, and Cecelia was doing her homework as her mother was on the phone with the electric company. This move was a headache, especially with her mother having an album on the way and getting settled into a temporary house and Cecelia adjusting to her new school for only a month. It could drive a single mother completely insane.
"Guess what! I made a friend today, and he's really nice and-"
"Cecelia, I'm on hold with the heating and air..."
"Right..." She continued to do her homework. She knew things were going to be different. They always had been since her father left, and her mother devoted her life to her music. And her half of the label and studio. Cecelia = sighed as she blushed, thinking about Elvis and his eyes and how she couldn't wait to see him again.
"Mama!" Elvis nearly ran into his family apartment like a whirlwind. It had been a while since Gladys had seen him so happy after school, like a puppy waiting for a treat.
"Elvis!"
"Pa! You'll never believe what I made in school today." he grinned as Vernon was about to guess. "A friend. Well, I think she's a friend. We shared a sandwich together, and I think she's giving me one of her comics to read-"
Gladys chuckled. Vernon perked up. Some special girl, if he was going on and on about her like this, the last girl he did that with was Dixie, or was it another girl?. Meanwhile, to Gladys, it sounded like he had a crush on this mystery schoolgirl.
"So I assume you'll be staying up in class more."Gladys scolded him playfully.
"And paying attention." Vernon glanced at him as Elvis blushed and nodded,
"Of course." He rubbed the back of his head, Gladys laughing as Vernon shook his head.
The next day, all the students were back in homeroom, and Cecelia was in the back, dreaming away about her new friend and what they'd talk about that day. Would it be comics or music? Maybe books? Or after-graduation goals? But those thoughts were crushed until a group of girls came behind her and pulled her hair. Cecelia only sighed as she tried to ignore them. It wasn't like she didn't get a note in her locker that said Stay away. Well, words she'd rather not repeat. Yes, this would be a tough couple of months. She just had to make it to,
"Oh No..."
Her eyes caught on to several kids running with scissors in their hands.
"Come here, fairy!" one kid shouted,
"Long-haired freak!"
"Oh, please don't let it be..."
"PRES!" Cecelia shouted, standing up, eyes on her as she grabbed her books, "Ent and I have to go use the girl's room... really, uh, quickly." storming out of the classroom, Cecelia quickly tried to follow the rest of the kids. They had Elvis cornered, with no room to escape, and there was fear in his eyes as if he'd been on death row.
"Maybe we'll cut off those flashy clothes next." It was no secret Elvis craved the fashion of Beale Street, but it wasn't a secret that everyone else at his school hated it, let alone hated him. He could feel the blades get close to his hair, and he closed his eyes and prayed until he heard a voice say.
"LEAVE HIM ALONE!"
Elvis looked at the crowd as he saw Red West behind him and Cecelia beside him.
"Or what!"
"You'll answer to my fist..." Cecelia glared at one of the boys. What was she thinking was the main thing Red and Elvis were thinking.
"Your fist aint gonna do nothing cause you're just a nig-"
POW!
The students scurried, dropping everything they had to torture Elvis. Shaking her wrist, she looked back at the two guys and sighed. She probably made it worse, and the principal would call her mother, and then there'd be a commotion about it all.
"Where'd you learn to throw a punch like that."
"My mother taught me." Cecelia shrugged, looking at Red,
"Some mother..." Red nodded until they both saw Elvis shaking like a leaf.
"El!" Cecelia ran over, "Are you okay? Do you need to go home? Do you wanna stay at my home..." she offered, but Elvis stood up, shook it off, and tried to laugh even though he wanted to cry and scream and yell,
 "Cece, Red, I'm fine..."
"E, yer tremblin."
"Like a leaf, Pres..."
"I SAID I'M FINE!" He shouted. He didn't mean to. He was having a rough day and an anxiety attack.
Cecelia approached him, "We're just worried, is all..."
"At least let us walk you to class." Red offered as Elvis nodded. Cecelia's hand brushed against his. He blushed a little. Was Cecelia flirting with him?
"So then Superman catches him in the water!" Cecelia said as the three were walking down the hallway,
"You're spoilin' it, Cece." Elvis groaned,
"Well, I have a TV in my room. If y'all ever wanna come by and watch it." her southern accent escaped her as Elvis had a slightly brighter blush on his cheeks.
"Or we could go to the drive-in!" Cecelia then said as Elvis's eyes wide. He's only been a third wheel to the drive-in, mooching off his friend's french fries and whatnot. And if he did bring a girl. Then he was either making out with her, or he was super into the movie.
"I think I'd leave that up to you two," Red said as Elvis had short-circuited. Walking to their English Class, Elvis had taken in the charm of Cecelia. She was a big ball of mystery who was protective, loyal, and stood up for him after only knowing him for a day. Cecelia was kind enough to share her sandwich with him. And she was pretty to look at in her pink gingham dress. But this wasn't how you thought about a friend. Besides, he was Elvis, the weird kid with a guitar and his head in the clouds, dreaming.
"Since it's Friday, what'cha got planned for the weekend?"
"Well, work, but I'm off at 3 p.m."
"Well, I'm still new in town, so... maybe you could show me around Beale Street or comic shops you like to go to. Or record stores." She began to ramble on as he laughed, her stomach doing small butterflies at the sound of it,
"We can do all of that," he bumped her shoulder as she bumped his back.
"That would be great," Cecelia smiled, "Oh! You'll need my number. So you can call." Things were looking up for Elvis. He had gotten her number. And he got to hang out with her. It wasn't a date, but it sure enough was something. Besides, he spent his weekends playing football, fixing his car, or on Beale Street. Now, he wouldn't have to be alone doing it.
When school was out for the day, Cecelia rushed to her car with a now-popped tire. Kids were so cruel, but that still didn't stop Cecelia. Going to the back of her car, she rolled the spare tire until she remembered that Midge had taken the tire kit with her. Elvis walked out with Red West, talking to him about his weekend plans, and then he saw Cecelia, who looked like a pinup girl in a calendar posing with a tire, "A little help here..." She sighed, watching some of her peers walk by,
"Could you help me here... And they walked off." Cecelia huffed until she saw Elvis,
"Not bother you, but..."
"I caught a flat last week." Popping open his trunk, he took out the jack. "How'd this happen."
"Those bullies you were talkin about..." she gritted her teeth,
"Don't let 'em get to ya, Cece. Which ain't easy to do," he sighed as he fixed her tire, "Just breathe and imagine the good Lord pickin' 'em off one by one." Cecelia laughed hard as Elvis laughed with her,
"Morbid, but it helps." Cecelia grinned, "Say, call me when you get home so I know you're safe, okay."
"Cece, I'll be fine." Those hazel eyes pierced his soul in a glare,
"Okay, okay, I will."
"Good, you better, or I'll find out where you live. And I'll!"
"You'll what." He smirked. His face was close to hers and she blushed a little.
"Bug ya! to death," she smirked,
"You could never bug me, Val." He winked,
"Cece the phones for you," Denise said as Cecelia raced down the stairs,
"Thank you, Mother." she winked, taking the phone as she took a deep breath,
"Cecelia speaking,"
"It's me, Elvis. We're still on for tomorrow. Right? "
"You bet we are!" Cecelia grinned, "Do you wanna meet at your job or a restaurant or-"
"My job is fine." Elvis said, "You can park your car in the front, and we'll take mine."
"Sounds good. " she smiled, trying not to sound so giddy, "Oh, and El!" she said as if she forgot something,
"Yeah, Cece?"
"I may have bought several volumes of Captain Marvel Jr."
"You gotta let me read 'em!"
"Why do you think I bought 'em..."
"Cece, you're the best." he grinned.
"No, El, you're the best, " she smiled. If only he knew how much he was starting to mean to her,
"Say, bring the comics. There's a diner in Beale Street we could read 'em at."
"Deal."
"Cece, time to get off the phone."
"Let me guess your mama."
"Mhmm."
"Elvis Aron Presley!
"Let me guess yours?"
"Yeah,"
"Well, Good night, El,"
"Night, Cece."
"So who was that," Denise asked as Cecelia smiled widely, her dimples on display,
"Elvis Presley, he's a friend from school. And he's showing me around town tomorrow." Denise only laughed a little at her daughter's reaction. She was happy to see that something made her smile since they moved to Memphis. "And is this Elvis cute..." Denise asked as Cecelia blushed a bit, embarrassed,
"Mother!" her brown cheeks turning red, "We're just friends!"
"For now... After all, you and Anthony Rodgers were friends..."
"That was a poor judgment. Besides, Anthony's an actor."
"Who pretended to love me to get to you." Her mother was right, but she knew that Elvis was different. Besides, he didn't know her secret. And she didn't plan for him to find out anytime soon either,
"He's not like that."
"What's he like then."
"I don't fully know yet, but he's not that." Cecelia sighed,
"Just be careful tomorrow."
"I will, and you have fun getting Daddy to do the electrical work for the studio," Cecelia mentioned as she walked up the stairs.
Neither party could hardly fall asleep from the excitement of seeing the other. Elvis tossed and turned in his bed. And Cecelia was counting sheep and talking to her posters as she swooned. This wasn't a date, right? Right?"

Memphis Tennessee 1960
"You seen the boss lately?" Judy asked as Red shrugged. They were covering for Elvis on an assignment at his Cadilac dealership, Little Tupelo. It was his pride and joy out of all of his covers, "He's still in his meeting." Sonny mentioned as they sighed. It wasn't like Elvis to be late. Besides, he promised Sam Philips he'd be here by 3:30 pm, and it was already 3:28, "Meeting with who?" Judy asked,
"He didn't say..."
Beale Street was booming with flashing lights and music, the glitz and glam of sin, a small taste of Vegas, if one could say, but it wasn't enough that Elvis was sitting across from the daughter of one of the most prestigious cartels. "Cecelia..." her entourage of women surrounded her as she glared at him, hazel eyes piercing his soul, "I'm sorry, who's Cecelia... " She turned to look at Rosa and Carlotta as they looked around,
"Ms. Valmos, you can't buy this dance hall..."
"That's better... Tell me, why can't I..." She leaned in as she laughed, "Cause it was 'sposed to be mine!" rage in his eyes as she grinned,
"What're you gonna do about it, Presley..."
"I'm gonna fix you, that's what?" He said behind gritted teeth as she laughed,
"Fix me...I should have my tailors fix that horrid suit. Who's dressin you, you're underboss Tom." She teased as he banged his fist on the table,
"Damnit Cecelia! You should know better than to compete with me..."
"You should know better than to make me a rival..." Looking at her watch as she looked back at him,
"Why, you little!" a switchblade flew past him, almost grazing his ear. Cecelia was fearless, but Elvis would seek his revenge soon enough.
"Are you done having a fit, Mr. Presley?"
"I'll show you a fit,"
"Like the one Mr. Philips will have if you don't make it to your little boy toy car lot?"
"How'd you..."
"Please, nothing goes by me except bullets, Mr. Presley..." She smirked as he walked behind her.
"Cheryl and Midge will see you out." She looked at him, her dress pressed against her body as her heels clicked on the floor. Elvis wasn't scared, though. He knew what he had to do. He had to make the first move. Elvis had to show her that the Memphis Mafia wasn't scared of a group of women parading intimidation tactics.
"So, any luck..." Jerry asked as Elvis glared, sitting in his limo as he was silent. He hadn't lost, but when it came to her, he always did. She was always ahead of him, and he needed to know how. "She bought the God damn dance hall!" He growled as Jerry shook his head,
"Me, Charlie, and Joe will pay our respects to the Paradise Lounge tonight..."
"What's the plan..."
"Watch it go up in flames, I guess." Jerry shrugged, laughing, the game was afoot, and Elvis would win.
Nashville Tennessee 1960
"Are we ready..." Cecelia asked, sitting at her desk as Midge inhaled a sharp breath. Something was usually wrong when she did that. "About tonight, boss..." Midge looked up at her as she turned the radio on,
"This just in. The beloved cabaret Dance Hall Paradise Lounge found on fire." Cecelia growled, her teeth grinding against each other in anger as she screamed, "FUCKING PRESLEY!" She slammed her hand against the wall as she looked up at Midge,
 "Load my car up..."
"Cece..."
"Fucking load it!" She was in a state of rage, revenge, even. She wanted to get even. And she wanted to do it now, "Are you okay, mi vida?" Carlotta asked as Cecelia laughed, "I'm fine... It's just The Memphis Mob beat me at my own game. I won't have to lie about how the place caught fire." She shrugged as she fixed her dress and makeup,
"So what are you gonna do..."Rosa asked,
Memphis Tennessee 1960
A smokey, gas-like smell was lingering down the streets of Memphis as The Memphis Electric Company truck was a blaze along with its building. She knew Elvis loved this place, for it was his first shot. Working secretly with the mob, but he had to learn when you get too close to the sun, you get burned, "That ought to teach him..." Cecelia smirked as she left. But there was one thing that Cecelia didn't know was that news traveled fast in Memphis, and it traveled to Graceland Mansion first, from the maids to the cooks to the boys.
"E..."
"I know Jerry, I know..." Elvis didn't even look up from his book and his sandwich. He didn't seem phased about it, but he also didn't seem to be at ease either,
 "So..."
"I'll send her a gift..." Jerry laughed. Elvis always had a way with gifts. Sometimes, it was rings to pretty women. and the heads of someone close to his enemies. He couldn't wait to hear about what exactly it was.
"M-Mr Officer... No, no, too cheesy..." Cecelia sighed, fixing her makeup in her compact to look distressed, "Officer!" She practiced again as she took a deep breath. She saw an officer walk towards her as she mustered fake tears, "Officer, come quick! I don't know what happened! But I do hope no one is hurt..." Cecelia said as he looked at her, "It's good people like you who keep this city safe."
"Doing my job, Ms." He nodded as she walked off,
The next day, Cecelia was at her new Dance Hall as painters and movers came in to gussy it up,
"Package, Ms. Valmos..." Cheryl said,
"Let me see it, please?" She asked as she saw the box. It was a bit long and light. It wasn't a body. She listened in, and it wasn't a bomb. Tied on top was a pink bow and a rose. As she sat down, she pulled it apart and opened it, Revealing a white Mink fur Coat and a note that read,
I know what you did
EP
"Well..."
"Mr. Mississippi thinks he so tough, huh, with his blue eyes and that smile...We'll see how big he barks." Her laugh was as sinister as her smile, but she meant every word. Elvis knew this would eat her up alive. Besides, she and Gifts didn't get along, not since she and Anthony Rodgers had a mishap rumored that he'd been dumped in the river missing his heart.
"Do you think she got the gift?" Joe asked Elvis, who had finished eating his sandwich, "We'll see..." He said, waiting for her to call. Something about her always intrigued him. Maybe it was because they were born a day apart, Or her body in her dresses and how she carried herself, being she was the only cartel that was run entirely by women, or perhaps it was how she wasn't scared of him but could make him tremble in his loafers,
"So, how's things going with that girl?"
"Which girl? You know there's several." He laughed, slicking his hair again as Jerry rolled his eyes,
"One day, you'll settle down."
"Eh, maybe..." He shrugged, "Say you guys up for a movie?" Elvis asked. When they arrived at the theater, there were bullet holes and a coat by the door,
"I see that's not her taste..."He laughed as Judy and Lamar looked at him in confusion. Jerry only sighed as he knew this would drive him mad,
"Let me guess..."
"Mhmm..."
"Got it."
Later that night, Cecelia drove to Memphis in a shiny pink Cadillac with custom seats and a note attached. She knew who sent it. Cecelia knew how to get rid of it. She didn't want his gifts. Cecelia was over those days when people bought her affection with gifts. Cecelia knew now that the world was harsh and the only way to love was to watch it burn.
When Elvis walked onto the lot, he noticed the car burnt up with "No Thanks..." Written on the hood, "Damn it, Jerry, she's driving me insane!" Elvis growled, walking into his office as Jerry followed,
 "E, what's this about..."
"Jerry, I-I have to get her somehow." Elvis sighed,
"Maybe don't set her shit on fire..." Elvis glared at him,
"I'll get her a ring..." He smirked, "She can't refuse jewelry."
"Whys that." He took a deep breath as Elvis opened his mouth,
"Don't you know anything, diamonds are a girl's best friend."

Memphis, Tennessee, Tuesday, May 1953
"Say good night to your friend," Denise said as she opened the door. Cecelia blushed as Elvis coughed a little in an awkward silence, "Night...Mr. Presley," Denise said as he smiled,
 "Good Night Mrs, Denise,"
"Ms. Cecelia." He kissed her hand, and Cecelia blushed. She felt like a princess, "See you tomorrow, Mr. Presley." She swooned again, watching him walk away. Denise watched as her daughter waltzed in like a Disney princess, twirling and singing,
"So the drive in..."
"What about it," She asked, a pink rose behind her ear as she sniffed it,
"Did he try anything?"
"Oh no, he would never. We shared a burger, fries, and a soda. And We watched Dracula in the back of his car. Nothin' fishy!" Cecelia giggle. She had those stars in her eyes, she was in love with this boy, and Denise was worried,
"Your grandmother called. She said next month we'll be movin in and-"
We'll be moving three hours away..." Cecelia sighed, "I finally made friends who like me for me ... I didn't even tell Elvis I'm fallin' in love with him..." A tear rolled down her face. It broke her mother's heart.
"I think you should tell him everything."
"Everything..."
"Everything."
Memphis, Tennessee, Wednesday, May 1953
"Elvis!" Cecelia leaned over the counter at his job as he raced to her, "You ready to go prom shopping?" She asked in a whisper as he nodded. Today was a teacher work day, and Elvis spent it at work while Cecelia spent it repacking. She would miss Memphis. It felt like home and a sense of belonging, and when she looked at Elvis, she felt like she could do anything. Elvis could tell something was wrong. Her eyes were diming with a light, but he didn't want to press his luck with pushing her.
"Alright, I'm ready," Getting his keys, she followed him into his car. Elvis could hear her sniffling as she pressed her face against the window,
"Honey, are you okay..."
"I'm movin next month... And I don't wanna leave you 'cause I-" Cecelia cried as Elvis felt his heart shattered. Not from the news but from her tears,
"Where you movin to."
"Nashville..."
"That's only three hours away." He parked the car, "We can see each other on the weekends,"
"But..."
"I don't want you cryin'.'" He said as she hugged him, sobbing one more time on his shoulder. Drying her tears, he bumped his nose against hers as he made a funny face at her. Cecelia's laughter made his heart sing as his thumb touched her cheek,
"Feelin better?"
"Yeah." She took his hand as they walked into the dress shop,
 "May we help you..."
"Oh, I-I- uh, it's for her," Elvis said as Cecelia waved at the saleswoman,
"I see...So, relation to the gentleman?"
"He's my prom date." She said,
"Ms. Valmos, does your mother know he's white."
"Of course,"
"He's a cutie..." She smiled, picking dresses for her as Elvis sat waiting. Cecelia was in a tight mermaid gown. It was pretty, but she couldn't dance in it,
"So, sir, what do you think?" Elvis looked up as he saw Cecelia. The dress was beautiful, his heart stopped, and he was hypnotized.
 "It's u-uh..."
"You don't like it ..."
"No, I do, it's just..." He was lost for words. Her curves, her grace, her poise, he wanted to kiss her,
"I'll change..." she huffed as the saleswoman laughed. She knew the young man was flustered, but perhaps it was too much. Changing again, she was wearing a yellow dress with tule ruffles on it. She felt stupid in it already. Walking out, all she heard was Elvis in tears, laughing as he began to snort,
"I look like a sponge cake..." she groaned,
"But if you were a cake, I'd eat'cha!" Elvis then paused, "Wait, that don't sound right..."
"ELVIS!" Cecelia swatted at him playfully. He swatted back, laughing at her as she flopped on the floor, looking like a pineapple. As they finished up in the dress shop, the two continued walking down Beale Street as he held her hand,
"Say, Elvis, can I ask you something?" Cecelia asked as he was lost in thought.
"Shoot."
"So... Say hypothetically you have a friend who may be hypothetically related to a hypo-"
"I know..." Elvis smirked,
"You know what?"
"That you're famous." He said, shrugging his shoulders.
"How'd you..."
"You sing, you play guitar, your last name is Valmos, your mama has Grammys in her livin room, and I own some of your mama's records," He smiled at her as she blushed, hard embarrassed that he was so calm about it.
"So why didn't you treat me like everyone else?"
"Cause you're like everyone else, needin' a good friend and a great time," He twirled her as she laughed,
 "Well, thank you."
"For what."
"Treating me like I'm not famous,"
"Of course," He chuckled, picking her up bridal style and running,
"ELVIS!" She shouted, laughing. Maybe some things weren't hard when you found your soulmate.
Memphis, Tennessee, Saturday, May 1953
"Mama! Have you seen my bowtie!" Elvis asked as Gladys laughed, "It's right here." Vernon held it. It was a light pink bowtie that Gladys sewed. "We're gonna be late!" Gladys said as Elvis slicked his now fully jet-black hair back. He looked good. He smelled good, and he was ready to go. Walking out, Gladys and Vernon couldn't help but feel proud. He was going to prom, and next month, he'd graduate,
"Alright, everyone in the car!"
"I don't see why you're here..." Denise rolled her eyes as Alfonso looked at his ex-wife. Calpurnia sighed, shaking her head. This would be a long night, and there weren't enough old fashions to drink to keep her from wanting to hit them.
"I'm her father..."
"More like sperm donor,"
"Either knock it off or go upstairs and resolve that tension!" Calpurnia sighed, fixing her pearls, "It's your daughter's prom. She only gets this night once, and then God help us. She'll miraculously get married."
"And now look..." Midge moved as Cecelia looked into the vanity. She was a princess wearing a diamond necklace around her neck, and then there was her gown, a light pink with roses on the right side of her hip,
"Do you think he'll like it?"
"Sweetie, he'll love it. Oh, don't forget your shawl!" wrapping it around her as she smiled,
"Thanks, Midge,"
"Mrs. Denise, it's nice to see you. These are my parents!" Gladys and Vernon introduced themselves as they took notice of who they were, Alfonso was confused as to why there was a pimply white kid at the door, but Calpurnia found him cute.
"You must have the wrong hou-"
"Elvis, I'm-" Cecelia was stunned, his hair slicked back and his suit on with his bowtie the same color as her dress. He looked like a movie star, and her heart was beating out of her chest,
"Do you hear wedding bells..." Calpurnia asked,
"Planning it right now," Minnie said as she laughed.
"You look beautiful," taking her gloved hand in his.
"You two get together and take pictures!" Denise and Gladys said. As they laughed, Elvis and Cecelia had posed together, and they were miraculously photogenic, "Oh wait, I forgot the flower wrist thing!" Elvis ran to the car to get it as Cecelia ran to the fridge to get hers, pink roses for each,
"So... How long have they uh been dating?" Alfonso asked as Vernon shook his head,
"I don't think they've started."
After the pictures, the two drove to the Peabody Hotel. Elvis taken by its beauty, and Cecelia taken by his, "WOAH CECE!" Red smirked, waving her and Elvis over.
"You all look amazing!" Cecelia gushed as she held onto Elvis, who felt like the king of the world next to her,
"So, should we all head in?" Elvis asked. Getting the tickets out, he handed them to the student council, one of the girls looking Cecelia up and down,
"You all can go inside except her..."
"Excu-"
"Elvis, I got this," Cecelia smirked. "Do you not know who I am..."
"A colored girl wearing fake diamonds." the girl said.
"Well, no, sweetheart, I'm Cecelia Shanel Valmos, Daughter of Alfonso Reed and Denise Valmos... Granddaughter to Calpurnia Valmos." The young girl was speechless, "And as for these diamonds, they were a gift from Frank Sinatra." Elvis's friends looked at him in shock. They knew she looked familiar.
"I-I-I'm..."
"Sorry, apology accepted," Cecelia autographed the ticket stub for her, "Keep it. It'll be worth something someday." She smirked, taking Elvis by the arm. He was so going to ask her out tonight,
"Do you know who you told off..." Darla asked,
"No, but tell me?"
"The richest girl in the school!" Red said, "Well, second, 'cause you're the daughter of two music greats!? " He looked at Elvis, "DID YOU KNOW THAT!" Elvis nodded as he laughed,
"Knew it when I first saw her," Elvis smiled,
"So, are we friends with a famous person?" Betty asked,
"I put my petticoat on one leg at a time like you."
"Yeah, except it's like Dior or somethin."
"This ones, Lanksys." Cecelia shrugged as Elvis laughed, "If you excuse us!" taking Elvis by the hand as she smiled,
"You wanna dance?"
"Nah, I wanna stand by the wall. 'Course, I wanna dance!" He took her by the hand and began to swing her around the ballroom. The two were laughing and giggling like that night on Beale Street, and slowly, the knowledge knowing she'd be leaving this behind three hours away in Nashville was fading. Holding her close, Elvis couldn't help but take in her beauty. This was like a movie to him. He was an underdog who was wooing the girl he liked, his friends supporting him, and she was moving soon, which meant tonight had to be perfect. Elvis dipped her as she laughed, his eyes focusing on hers as he leaned in. She felt someone tap her on the shoulder as she looked up,
"Hi, sorry to bother you, Cecelia, but could you sing for us please!" Annette, the girl from the counter, said, Cecelia looked at Elvis as she shrugged,
"Why not."
"Uhm, hi! This is Annette Lynn, your student body President, and I have a treat for you!" She smiled as Cecelia watched her,
"So, A little chickadee told me. That we have a celebrity here... And she's going to sing for us." The students gasped, trying to see who it was, "So please give it up for my friend Cecelia Valmos!"
"Some friend?"
"Tell me about it, El..." She went to the stage as the students gasped, looking at the band,
"You cats know Money Honey?" the band nodded as she grabbed the guitar and sang. Elvis was by the stage watching as she sang. He was enchanted by her as she danced and looked at him, to think seeing a girl play guitar in a prom dress would change half of these students' lives,
Later that night, Elvis drove Cecelia home, both wanting to say something to the other. "Did you have a great prom?" Elvis asked. His hands had been shaking, and his knees were weak, "I did. I don't think I'll forget this. I mean, voted as the cutest couple, and losing prom Queen and King was funny." She laughed as Elvis agreed,
"I enjoyed dancing with you tonight, and your singin, and I'll miss you when you leave. Memphis won't be the same without cha..." he held her hand. There was a silent pause between them as she sighed,
"We still got the summer," She smiled,
"I" ll write ya." Elvis grinned,
"And I'll call ya!" Walking her to her door, she felt that this was the moment to tell him the last thing on her mind. "And we can see each other!" He smiled as he pulled her close. She was at the doorstep, as she blushed,
"Well, I guess I'll see you around..." he let go of her hand as she watched him walk away. Her heart sank until she opened her mouth and said,
"Elvis...I'm in love with you!"
Elvis stopped in his tracks, his stomach in knots and his heart fluttering. He couldn't speak, but he could show her how he felt. Running towards her, he grabbed her face and kissed her. It felt like warm honey on a biscuit, like sunshine, like her days of wonder were gone. Cecelia kissed him back, and to Elvis, it felt like the spring sun melting away a harsh winter. Pulling away from her, he rested his forehead on hers as she laughed,
"Can I tell you somethin..."
"Anything Elvis..."
"I'm in love with you too..."
"So... those outtings..." She mentioned as Elvis nodded,
"They were dates." He laughed as she grinned,
"I knew it!"
"So, are you two together or what!" Calpurnia said from th door frame as they blushed.

October 9th 1955
"That's the fourth time today you brought up cannibalizing me!"
"Should I be worried?"
These were just some of the odd conversations that Cecelia Valmos, lead singer of The Garnets, had to hear on the merger tour with the greats of Sun Records. The tour would only be a week long in Texas, which didn't sound bad. After all, there was Daphane and Rosa, Scotty and Billy, Johnny Cash, Wanda Jackson, June Carter and.
"ELVIS!"
"Aw hell, Wha-What now!"
"You're talking my ear off, and we haven't even left outta Tennessee!" Rosa sighed. She was supposed to sit next to Cecelia, but Rosa found her way next to Scotty,
"Can't you talk to Cece?" Rosa asked as Elvis had turned bright red. He had wanted to, but she seemed all tied up in Johnny Cash. Her batting eyelashes and her laughter made him sick with envy.
"I gotta admit, isn't he cute?" Cecelia beamed,
"Who?"
"Elvis." Cecelia giggled,
"I'm worried about you, kid. Real worried." Johnny laughed, ruffling up her curls. Johnny and Cecelia had been close friends, nothing too scandalous, unlike Elvis and June, who had a few resting sessions, at least from what Rosa told her. "Says the man, too chicken to talk to June." She nudged him.
"I am not. It's just, Fella's don't cross lines."
"Mhmm... You're just afraid she'll like you."
"And you're afraid Elvis likes you too." Cecelia had fallen silent when he said that.
"He's wrapped up in other affairs." She sighed, watching him sit next to June, the two laughing, and his hand on her thigh as both Johnny and Cecelia groaned,
"So you don't think I'm crazy?"
"Elvis, I trust that everything you do has a reason," June said, giggling at Elvis.
"So..."
"Talk to her. Besides, you two would make a cute little couple." June watched as he was jittery. His leg was shaking, and he was tapping his fingers on the side of the bus in a rhythm.
"You wouldn't get mad."
"Got my eye on someone myself." Her eyes landed on Johnny Cash as Elvis smiled,
"Think you two would do nicely together."
"Hey, we're stopping for gas, so if y'all wanna stretch, here's the chance." Sitting by herself on a bench was Cecelia. She had a notepad full of songs as she was writing away. Cecelia would draw, but everything she'd draw was, "So you talk to Elvis yet?" Scotty asked as Cecelia looked up at him,
"Why does everyone want me to talk to him so bad?"
"Well... Cause-"
"Scotty, they want us back on the bus!" Rosa shouted. Scotty had left, and there stood Cecelia walking towards the bus, "Please talk to him." He whispered. When they got back on, everyone else had begun to go back to minding their business, from practicing songs. Or even listening to music on the radio. But Cecelia had her sights on Elvis, who was strumming his guitar and singing with his band. Even when he wasn't close to her, she was enchanted,
"So I was thinkin maybe we speed it up a bit?" Cecelia looked at Daphane and Rosa,
"We're not doing a new song." Ross rolled her eyes,
"Why not?"
"They wanna hear hits, not new stuff," Daphane said as she agreed with Rosa. Maybe she was right, stick to the plans, and the rest would soon follow.
"Hey, Cece, you got a minute!"
Cecelia turned to hear Elvis call her name, but Daphane turned her attention to tuning her guitar. When the evening had turned to nightfall; everyone had dinner. Cecelia sat watching everyone fall asleep one by one, all except for one particular and peculiar man.
"Something wrong, Pres.." she asked, looking from her Jay Garrick comic book.
"No, just uh... is this seat taken?" He asked as Cecelia looked up at him.
"Not at all." Cecelia smiled, patting the seat next to her. Elvis had sat down as he tried to look out the window, then back at her, then back to the starry landscape.
"Excited for the tour?" He was trying to make small talk, but he didn't want to bore her like he did everyone else.
"Nervous, really. If it weren't for the paint on my nails, I'd have bit them clean off!" She laughed,
"I already bit mine off." He chuckled. His leg was shaking again, and his hands were tapping as Cecelia grinned,
"I see you got music in you."
"Huh?"
"Either that or I make you nervous?" she leaned in jokingly as his heart began to pound out of his chest.
"Cece, you don't make me nervous, not one bit." Her hand was holding his as she laid her head on his shoulder. His face was red, but he felt like he could share his whole world with her,
"Do you believe in love?"
"Yeah, why wouldn't I? I mean, I sing about it." Cecelia said,
"We all do, but one day, do you think you'll fall in love with someone," Elvis asked as Cecelia was now looking at him.
"I would hope I do," she smiled, "This world is crazy, and I don't want to go through it alone."
"Even if it's not me..." He mumbled,
"What makes you say that, Pres..." Her eyes looked deep into those blue diamond eyes. They were big and mesmerizing.
"I-I-I saw you talkin to Johnny and..."
"You got jealous?" She asked as Elvis turned from her. Cecelia was now lying in his lap. He hadn't noticed until her hand brushed his face to look at her.
"A little..."
"I did, too." She giggled, "I mean June, Is beautiful. If I were a guy, I'd rest with her." Cecelia laughed as Elvis blushed,
"You knew about that?!"
"Rosa..."
"That little..."
"Hey!" Cecelia playfully shoved him as he laughed. Elvis had traced her features. He'd always loved her nose. For once, he was distracted, and it was the good kind. Taking in the look in her eyes, he felt at ease.
"Anyone ever tells you. You're beautiful?" Elvis asked. Cecelia's face got warm, and her body felt tingly.
"Do you say that to all the girls?" She giggled as Elvis blushed. He didn't mean to say that, or maybe he did.
"Nah, I call them pretty." He laughed back,
"Say, can I ask you something?" Cecelia asked. Elvis felt the wind knock right out of him. He was nervous, but he gave her a nod and listened to what she had to ask.
"How would one know if they have a crush on someone?"
"Oh, easy." Elvis smiled, his fingers in her hair, watching her eyes flutter, "You can't stop thinkin' about 'em. When you're near 'em, you feel all shook up inside, and sometimes you just want to-" he stopped talking as Cecelia looked at him, his eyes focused on her lips and then her eyes again,
"You want to what." The air from her lungs was gone, as her eyes were closed shut from the passion. Her fingers were in his dark hair, messing up his trademark style. There was a whimper of want from Cecelia as he pulled away slowly.
"Kiss you.." catching his breath as she sat up and was sitting in his lap.
"Then kiss me." she licked his lip, "Please."
As the night continued, the two embracing each other, Elvis and Cecelia were in a haze of love. Though neither had said anything, their smiles told it all,
"So... Do you think Jay Garrick could beat Captain Marvel Jr. "
"Hell no!" Elvis smirked, "He's got more powers!"
"Captain Marvel Jr. has three powers. Jay has fourteen, which automatically makes him better!" Cecelia smirked back as Elvis laughed hard,
"It does not make him better." his laughter ruptured through the bus.
"But it does!"
" PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO SLEEP!" Rosa shouted, throwing her shoe at them as the two dodged it.
"Then go to sleep then!" Cecelia and Elvis both shouted.

July 1956 Biloxi, Mississippi
"HOW DARE YOU!" Cecelia Rolled her eyes. Cecelia would never, she thought about it, but she adored Red. Red rolled his eyes at her reaction. He knew the truth, and Red wanted her to say it.
"Okay, so tell me, are you two sleeping together? Or not ?"He asked again as she sighed, "Red, no..." She sighed, looking at him,
"You're lying..." Red said, narrowing his eyes,
"Red, I've only slept with you this vacation!" She sighed, "Look, you're not fooling me, Cece," Red groaned, "You and Elvis are doing something..." He glared at her as she grabbed a towel, "Like what..." She glanced at him as he laughed, "I see how he looks at you. And how tonight suddenly you're cold and shivering, and he's got his arms around you. So tell me the truth." Red looked at him, "Are you sleeping with him?"
"I'm not sleeping with him!" She growled,
"Alright, I believe you..." He smiled,
"Whatever, I'm going to take a shower..." She mumbled. Walking out, she bumped into Elvis, who was wrapped in a towel, fresh shower water on his skin, "Sorry..." She looked up at him as he laughed, "Naw, I was in the way," He smiled as he winked at her. Cecelia's eyes trailed down his body as he blushed. He watched her bite her lip slowly, but she didn't notice. Elvis's eyes wander down her bathing suit-damped body as she closed the door, "Good night, Mr. Presley..."
"G-Good night, Ms. Valmos," He smiled,
"There you are!" June saw him as he kissed her, "Hey sweetheart!" He smiled as he chuckled,
"Coming to bed?"
"Of course..."
The next morning, Elvis and Red were out, shooting a rifle as Cecelia and June watched, the two chattering about their nights. Elvis's arm was stretched, pointing to the rifle, and looking down the site, he was concentrating hard. Shooting the bullseye that Red was holding, he could see that both girls were impressed, fixing his hair. He smirked, "See, I told you I know how to handle guns." He said as he handed the rifle to Red, "You looked so good, baby." June smiled as Cecelia looked at Red,
"Can I try..." Cecelia asked,
"Sure," Red smiled. He handed the rifle to her, "But be safe, okay, keep it pointed down,"
"I'm not sure..."
"I mean, what if you get hurt?" Elvis said. He was worried something would happen, "Then show me how to use it. If you're so worried..." She rolled her eyes. Cecelia knew her way around a gun. But she supposed she'd let Elvis take it away.
"You sure?"
"Yeah. Elvis, show her!" June smirked. Cecelia blushed as she felt him close behind her. He took notice that she was blushing a bit, but he was getting the same feelings that she was. "Okay, so hand here and..." She felt his hand on her hip, his other on the rifle. His breath was on her neck, and she was losing concentration. She wanted to press further against him, but she knew not to.
"I'm ready to shoot,"
"Okay..." He said, watching her aim as she was ready to fire her weapon. He then picked up the Target as he signaled for her to shoot. Cecelia shot in the middle of the target, and June and Red were impressed.
"That was amazing!" Elvis smiled as she felt him pick her up and twirl her around, "I'm so proud of you!"
"It's not my first time with a gun!" She laughed,
"Oh really?" He chuckled, still holding her as Red cleared his throat,
"Yes..."
Red scoffed as Elvis looked over at him, "Yes Red..." Elvis knew that his good friend had a feeling something was going on, "Cece, can we talk..." Elvis couldn't help it, he wanted Cecelia in his arms, even if it meant making his best friend mad. June noticed, but she also knew they were friends and that he loved her entirely.
"Red what's gotten into you!" Cecelia sighed,
"Nothing," He said, but his tone made it clear, that his suspicions were true,
"Why are you being so hostile!"
"I'm not being hostile..." He crossed his arms over his chest,
"Is this about me laughing at Elvis's joke during breakfast..."
"No, it's not just that..." He sighed,
"Then what is it..." She whispered, "Are you not having a good time baby?" She touched his cheek as he sighed, "Don't worry about it..." He began walking away, Cecelia was perched by a tree alone as Elvis walked towards her. June had gone to run a few errands for dinner with her mother, "I feel stupid..." Cecelia teared up. Taking her face, he wiped her tears away,
"Why would you say that..."
"Am I neglecting Red..."
"A little,"
"I need to make it up to him..." She ran off toward Red. Red had been sitting down as she walked in, "You... me right now..." She said as he gulped, "Cece..." He pulled her close as he kissed down her neck. Her eyes fluttered, and her voice was breathy as she bit her lip,
"Mhmm~"
"You like that, Cece..."
"Oh, Elvis, yes~" She moaned as she could only think to herself, Oh shit, "I-I mean Red." She tried to clear it up. But the way she let out his name had Red feeling extra insecure, and it only confirmed his worries about her thinking about Elvis. Though he tried to continue kissing her, the thoughts still crept into his head, but he wanted to believe he was enough for her. And that she wasn't picturing Elvis when they were in their most intimate throws. "What's wrong?" She asked, looking up at him. Her round eyes were innocent and sweet.
"Nothing Cece."
"Red..."
"Look, I just can't help but worry that you're thinking of Elvis instead of me..."
"Red... No, I, not at all..." She cradled his face as her bra strap was hanging over her shoulder. Red wanted to believe her, but she was making it so hard, not to mention how close he had pressed against her earlier. As he continued, he was hoping the little voice in his head would fall to silence until she said,
"Don't stop Elvis... I mean Red. I-I need to go..."
Red couldn't help but feel hurt and insecure. She was sitting here longing for his best friend! He wasn't surprised that she was running out. She was probably going to get her fix with Elvis.
"Sure, I'll be here when you get back..." Red turned from her,
"Red..." She ran to his side, "I love I swear it..."  she kissed him tenderly.
"I love you too, go get what you need..."
Cecelia took the keys to her rental car and drove til she was plum out of gas. Looking at where she was, she was in Tupelo, Cecelia sat in the car as she cried and screamed and lay awake wondering who she truly loved, in her mind, she always thought she'd end up with Elvis, but then she met Red and they had hit off, but now her feelings weren't so strong for Red, though were they ever from the start?
June had heard when Cecelia had taken off, she then saw Elvis walk in from his late walk, something he did to try to get himself somewhat tired, "I think your friend left... is she okay?" She asked as Elvis looked up like a deer in headlights. Something wasn't right, usually, she'd tell him about these things, and the fact she didn't made him feel hurt about the whole thing. "Did she say anything?" Elvis asked as June shrugged, "I heard her screamin a bit and then she said something about clearin' her head." June sighed looking at him, "If you need to find her. I understand." June took his hands and kissed them, "She's your friend and you love her dearly, like a sister." He did love her, but not like that.
"Yeah, you're right," He peppered kisses over her face as he grabbed his keys,
"I'm gonna go look for her."
"Be safe baby." She kissed his cheek When Elvis left, his mind began to race. He had thought about what he would say to her and how he would try to make her understand that what she did was horrifying. As he turned on the radio he heard wind that a pink Ford landed in Tupelo and that was how he knew that Cecelia was there. As Elvis drove into town, a sense of dread started to creep into his mind. The fact that Cecelia drove four hours and landed in his hometown wasn't ironic it was on purpose. Though Tupelo was an unfamiliar place for one to come to clear their head, then he realized that she was here hoping he'd find her. When Cecelia saw his pink Cadillac she turned her back away from him,
"Elvis... I don't need you to save me...I-I'm fine!" Hiding her tears from him. He recognized her voice, and the fact that she was trying to hide from him broke him. When he got out of the car and walked behind her, he gently put his hand on her shoulder, "Sweetheart... Tell me what's wrong." He leaned closer toward her hoping she'd open up,
"Don't call me sweetheart..."
Elvis was hit hard by her response, the way she said it was like she didn't want him near her. He'd called her sweetheart in the past, but he knew something was off, and something serious between them was off,
"Okay... Fine I won't call you that," He sighed, "But can you tell me what's wrong?"
" I MOANED OUT YOUR NAME INSTEAD OF RED'S AND HE HATES ME!" Cecelia teared up again as Elvis sighed, he was shocked that she did that, but it made him wonder if they were friends or did she have feelings for him,
"So Red's upset 'cause you said my name?"
"Yes..."
"And now you're torn between him and me?" He asked,
"I needed to clear my head okay..." Elvis laughed knowing she was avoiding the question, "Yeah, I know, but you drove to Tupelo, and you called out my name so..."
"I know... I know..." She hugged him, soaking his shirt with her tears. He held her close to his body wondering if he should hold her close and kiss her forehead, to tell her that he loved her and everything would be alright, but then there was Red, he'd be devastated, but he had to know if she felt the same.
"Look, I know we're four hours away from Biloxi... I'm conflicted and confused, and I-I know we're best friends, and you love June, you should she's a great girl, I love Red, and I feel like I'm lying when I say it..." She sighed. At first, Elvis felt some relief as she was talking to him and hoping she was going to say she was choosing Him over Red, but then she continued and he felt his heart sink as he heard her say that she was conflicted, "And you what..."
"Nothing Elvis..." She tried to walk away,
"No Cece, there's something you're not telling me..." He pulled her close to him, their mere breath colliding together.
"LIKE WHAT... When you kiss June or hold her I wish it were me! Or when I try makin' love to Red I wish it were you." She laughed, "ELVIS YOU! YOU'RE A DISEASE YOU- YOU FLOOD MY SENSES... And you drive me crazy... like no one else can do..." She grabbed his face as he pulled her tighter. He didn't know how to respond, but he knew he was overjoyed,
"So do you feel that way about me?"
"Elvis Aaron Presley..."
"Yeah..."
"You drive me up a wall..."
"And you drive me through the roof..." He smiled, Pulling her closer as he smiled, "Do you want me..." He asked as she was playing with his cowlick, "Every day..." She giggled,
"So let's stop denying, and stop pretending we don't have a thing for each other..."
"What about June and Red..." Cecelia sighed. Elvis had to admit he had to think about that one, "Well... We can figure that out tomorrow but in the meantime, tonight is about us." He kissed her hand,
"Wanna show me around your hometown... In your snazzy little Cadillac..." She asked, Cecelia had been to Tupelo as a friend, but never had she visited as a lover.
"Sure, and maybe there's a special tour." He smirked as she laughed, ran to the car he got in, and opened her door, Cecelia had then snuggled up to him in his car, the radio playing soft and sweet melodies as she looked up at him, his hand was on her thigh as she smiled softly at him,
"That's the library right... I know you loved that place."
"Yeah, I used to go and read as many books as I wanted," He laughed, "It was like my haven, that and church." He chuckled as Cecelia smiled, "Amen to that," She grinned as he kept driving around, he had pointed about and showed her a few more places as she listened to him, "That movie theatre... I must've gotten kicked out a million times as a kid..."
"Whys that..."
"Crossin the segregation line..."
"Seems you're still crossin' 'em." She winked as he ruffled up her hair playfully, "Yeah, I guess so, music breaks so many barriers and..." He smiled, "It speaks when words can't." He said as She nodded,
 "Such a poet..."
"Thanks, honey, say can I show a place that's real dear to me..."
"Of course..."
"Promise not to judge it?"
"I promise."

July 1956 Biloxi, Mississippi
"Cece, we're not listenin to me on the radio!" Elvis groaned. "Okay, then we'll listen to..." She flipped the station as Elvis heard her singing Why Do Fools Fall in Love, "Elvis Aaron Presley, you change that darned thing now!" She said with gritted teeth. Red was in the back sleep as the two kept fighting over the radio,
 "Pat Boone?"
"Elvis, I'd shoot myself in the head before I listen to Boone..." The two laughed as they finally settled on "Ready, Teddy?"
"Now we're talkin'," Elvis smirked as he kept his eyes on the road. Cecelia had been looking out the window as she smiled, taking a whiff of the Mississippi air. It had been a while since she had a vacation, and with her rising fame along with Elvis, it was hard, but with some convincing, her mother agreed. Driving through Tupelo, Cecelia pointed out the different Landmarks she remembered Elvis ranting about, "That's the hardware store, right?" She asked as Elvis nodded,
"Mhmm and my mama used to work right over there..." He smiled,
"And... That's the library." She grinned,
"And over there is the Jr. High," He winked, "Hey, I bet you're the same size too from Jr. High," Elvis said as Cecelia rolled her eyes,
"I will push you out of this car..." She mumbled,
"What was that?"
"It seems we're not too far..." Biloxi was only four hours away, and as Cecelia chatted up a storm, she could slowly feel her social engine revving out, yawning as she began to nod off in mid-conversation, "And then... the pineapple said to the p-p-pickle..."
"Cece, are you okay?"
"Mhmm, as I was saying, the cat then..." He heard her snore as her lids closed. Elvis found her cute when she got all sleepy like that, but they were friends and nothing more, and he was dating June, a girl he loved dearly, or so he thought.
When they got to Biloxi, June met Elvis at his car. Excited to see him, she kissed him as he kissed her back, "Good, you made it safely." She giggled as Elvis smiled, "Told you I would," He chuckled as Red woke up and helped with the bags, "Red." She hugged him as Cecelia woke up, "El~" Elvis turned to face her as June gasped,
 "Is that..."
"Cecelia Valmos," She got out of the car, "I don't usually look this confused. I uhm woke up, which someone was supposed to tell me we made it..." Elvis blushed,
"I didn't wanna wake you..." He mumbled,
"I know," She smiled as she looked at June. She was beautiful and radiant, everything a man could want in a woman, but a pit in her stomach made her melancholic and want someone she loved so dearly. But she couldn't have.
"Would you two like to join us for dinner?" June asked,
"We'd love to." Red smiled as Cecelia sighed,
"I'm sure Cil wants to rest a little," Elvis smiled, trying to help as she nodded. Red glanced at Elvis as Cecelia took a deep breath,
"We'll get changed and meet you for dinner."
"RED WHAT WAS THAT!" Cecelia sighed as Red looked at her, "Being nice, honey," He smiled, taking her hand. Red was a nice guy, but he wasn't Elvis. "Of course..." She smiled, "That's why you're so sweet." Cecelia kissed his cheek,
"Cecelia seems nice," June smiled as Elvis tidied up for dinner, "She is, she's. Uh, my best friend." He blushed as he thought about the tour he did with her. To say that Elvis liked Cecelia was an understatement. He was in love with her, but she was Red's girl, and friends don't steal each other's girl, at least he told himself.
"You two met at the Hayride, right?"
"Right," Elvis smiled, "She was the most electrifying person I'd ever seen, and her guitar playin'," He swooned, "She's amazing," He laughed it off as June was getting a little suspicious,
"I see... Well, you look amazing tonight." She smiled, walking downstairs to the dining room.
"I hope we're not late..." Cecelia said, walking in with her hair curled and light makeup on. Elvis was speechless, but he noticed how Red was looking at her, and all he could say was, "You look good, kid." Cecelia nodded as she looked at him, "You too," Red snaked his arms around her hips as she giggled, "Sweetheart!" Red kissed her cheek as Elvis fumed with envy, "Darlin?" June smiled as Elvis broke from his gaze on Cecelia, "Right, dinner..." He sighed, sitting down. The couples chatted away as they ate, Elvis stealing a glance at Cecelia, and she'd steal one back. Cecelia had been close friends with Elvis for a while now. And Cecelia had developed feelings for him. \. She never told him how she felt. However, when he looked closely at her. It was as if he had felt the same way for her as well,
"June, Red, I need some air, if you will..." Cecelia smiled, excusing herself,
"Of course, are you okay?" June asked,
"I'm fine, I just feel a little tired," She smiled, walking out as she went through a trail of woods to catch her breath, "I'll go check on her," Elvis said as June nodded. Elvis had found her in the woods, surrounded by summer fireflies, as she huffed. He didn't want to scare her. But he did want to check on her.
 "El?"
Elvis smiled as he heard her call him El. He took her hands in his as he looked into her eyes, watching the twinkle in them. "El, What are you doing..." She asked, looking away from him. "I came to check on you..." He said, still holding her hand as he began to lean in, "Elvis, I'm fine, really..." She could feel herself leaning in.
"There you two are!" June said as Elvis broke away from Cecelia. Elvis had almost crossed a line with his best friend, but there was June to anchor him back,
"I was tellin' Cece how worried I was for her."
"Yeah, he's a great friend." She chuckled,
"I see... Well, I'm going to bed if you wanna join..." June winked at Elvis as Cecelia groaned. Elvis wanted to tell Cecelia how he was feeling. But he didn't want to upset June, not during their planned vacation,
"I'll uh join ya, honey," Elvis said,
"Don't let the song bugs bite." She joked as Elvis laughed. He always did enjoy her humor, "Night, Cece," He waved, watching her walk away feeling relieved and dissatisfied. When she walked back to her room, Red was sitting there waiting for her. He didn't want to sleep until he talked to her,
"So... What's going on between you and E?"
"Nothing Red... We're just friends is all..." she smiled rolling up her hair, "Nothing more, nothing less..." Cecelia sighed as she then put on her pajamas,
"So is Cecelia okay?" June asked as Elvis was tying up his pajama pants and getting ready for bed,
"Yeah she's okay, she gets anxious sometimes and..." He sighed, "Needs air, which is odd 'cause she's so good on stage, but she's got stress an' all that."
"I see," June got into bed as Elvis snuggled up, wishing it was Cecelia, though he was content with June, or was he,
"You sure you're okay, I mean you and Elvis have been actin' weird since the car ride..."
"Red..." She sighed,
"I wanted to make sure you're okay is all..." Cecelia kissed Red as she held onto him, "Baby... I'm yours, you know that." Cecelia smiled, knowing she was thinking about his friend and not him. Red kissed her back, letting himself get lost in her embrace. Even though Cecelia had told him she was his, he still felt that she was thinking of someone else. When he looked into her eyes, he had hoped he saw a sparkle and not the emptiness of an unfulfillable void,
"What now Red..."
"I guess, I'm overthinking, I mean you and E have been close and I can't help but wonder do you think about him like most girls do?" He asked waiting for her reaction, "THERE'S NOTHING..." She snapped, "Nothing at all... I love you and I love being with you."
June was asleep, but Elvis heard her, and his heart sank, Red wanted to believe her, but he had his doubts,
"I worry I'm not enough for you..."
"You are enough, you Red-haired minx you..." She laughed, crawling on top of him,
"I promised I'd put out when we got here, so..."
"We're gonna play some house..." Red smirked, kissing her neck as she began to whimper,
"Yeah, baby..." He kissed her neck again, "Right there~" She moaned,
 "Elvis, yes~"
Red was unaware she moaned his name. He knew she was enjoying their time together. Kissing her neck again, he felt her body respond to his touch. He couldn't help but notice her heavy breathing as he kept going. Elvis may have been his best friend, but he knew Elvis couldn't please Cecelia the way he thought he could. As the morning came, Cecelia and Elvis set out to town for a small adventure,
"So you and Red got a little uh... handsy huh?" Elvis asked, there was a jealous tone in his voice, but Cecelia chose to ignore it, "If you call kissin' stewing the cabbage then I guess." She laughed a little, Elvis glanced at her relaxed form as the radio played, "Well, you know Red's a great guy," Red wasn't Elvis, but he was great,
"Yeah, Elvis, I know..."
"Elvis? Somethings wrong..."
"Not it's not..." Cecelia looked away from him,
"Yeah, it is. You only call me Elvis when I'm in deep shit. Or you're stressed, so Cece..." Cecelia couldn't look at him and tell him that she was in love and wanted so badly to kiss him,
"Nothing's wrong, I assure you." Elvis took his pointer finger and cradled it under her chin to make her look at him,
"Look me in the eyes and say that then,"
"I'm fine..." She winked. Elvis laughed, knowing she was lying, but for her sake, he'd "believe" it.
"Well, we were gonna go boat ridin' if you wanna come."
"You and June?"
"Yeah..."
"I don't know, I've got songs to write and-"
"Cecelia Shanel Valmos..." He crinkled up his nose as she looked at him,
"Yes..."
"No work..." He pretended to scold her as she laughed, "Oh whatever, just come on so we can get the bait for you to go fishin'." She leaned against him as he opened her door for her,
"Thank you, El,"
"Anything for you Cece..." He took her hand and held it, the two walked around the tackle shop as she looked at the fishing gear, Cecelia had enjoyed fishing, however, it was removing the fish that creeped her out.
"Hey, Cece catch!" Opening her hands she felt something slimy and slithery in her palm as she dropped it and got grossed out,
"ELVIS!!!!"
"It's just a worm!" His infectious laughter filled up the shop,
"You know I don't like bugs!"
"You like fireflies..."
"They're pretty bugs..." She huffed,
"Mhmm..." Elvis smirked as he took her hand. Cecelia blushed at the touch as he threw another worm at her, "ELVIS STOP!!!!" She ran towards a tree outside the shop as he pinned her against it, his body pressed against hers as he had a twinkle in his eye,
 "What, Cece?"
"We should go check on Red... and June," She smiled, trying to catch her breath, "Yeah, we better get back. Don't wanna leave 'em long." He smiled as he took her hand,
"And no more worms..." She mumbled, "Of course not..." He began to laugh, and as the two began to drive back, Red and June were suspicious when they had arrived back. Elvis, however, was acting as if he didn't pin you up against a tree, but Cecelia couldn't stop thinking about how close they were. Or his fragrance and how the sweat on his nose was dropping perfectly on his top lip.
"Red!" Cecelia blushed as he looked over,
"Did somethin' happen while you two were away?" Red asked,
"What, no! Elvis chased me with a worm, is all," She chuckled as he nodded, "Yeah, that sounds like E, but it's a worm. Why was he chasing you?"
"He thought it was funny," She shrugged, tying her shirt up, and rolling her jeans up.
"Doesn't explain why you're all red in the face, though," He smirked, "You were blushing when you walked up..."
"Red... It's hot and sunny, and I've got some Cherokee in me, so ..." She sighed, walking down towards the lake. "Yeah, the sun is hot today." He kept walking.
Elvis was sitting by the lake as June approached him. He had been thinking about earlier with Cecelia, but he soon stopped when he heard June ask, "Are you okay?" she sat next to him, his sailor hat on her head, "Yeah... I'm fine, just thinkin..." He responded, trying to play it cool.
"About?"
"Nothing... Just things I got to figure out..." He said, putting a worm on the pole, "Well, I see Cece and Red are heading down," She smiled, seeing them laughing and being playful, Elvis had begun to look away as he noticed her mid-drift showing from under her tied shirt, his mind was replaying how he had pinned her up against a tree, his heart racing as he heard, "You ready El!" She smirked as he grabbed his and June's pole to where they'd be fishing,
As they began to fish, Cecelia felt something tugging on her pole as she tried to reel it in. As Red tried to come to her recuse, in came Elvis "Got somethin' I see?" His hand reached for her waist as he helped her reel it in, she could smell the sweat and see the tan forming on his skin as she bit her lip,
 "Thanks..."
"No problem, look at the size of that thing Red! June! Look at it!" He exclaimed the two came over to look as he stopped to glance at her mid-drift, "Mhmm... My eyes are up here..." She mumbled as he blushed,
"ELVIS!" June called for him to come over, Elvis grumbled a little as Cecelia laughed,
"Go talk to your girlfriend..." Cecelia smirked as she walked to Red, Red smiled back, he could tell something was going on from the way she looked at him, but then again it was hot and he was sweaty,
"Say we should swim, it'll cool us off."
"Right now?" Red asked, looking at June as she nodded, Cecelia smirked, "Good thing I have my bathing suit on under this!" She smiled as Red and Elvis smirked,
"Turn around..." She sighed, both she and June stripping out of their clothes, Cecelia was wearing a pink bikini June was wearing one with stripes,
"Elvis! " Cecelia laughed splashing him as June joined in, Red splashing them both back, "Take that boys against girls!" He smirked as they chuckled. When the sun began to set they got out of the lake as Red and June were walking back, Cecelia was shivering, "You poor thing, Elvis she cold. come with me to get towels," June said to Red. The moment the two had left, the moment they noticed they were alone,
"Thanks for making me take a vacation..." She walked further up.
"Of course..." Elvis smiled. He wanted to kiss her and pull her close to him, but he couldn't. He was with June, and he loved June.
"El..." She sneezed,
"You're gonna catch a cold like that," He pulled her in close for a hug, and Cecelia felt his body heat as she snuggled into it,
"You're so warm..."
"See, you two are warm..."
"RED!" Red rolled his eyes. It was obvious that something was going on, but he didn't know what. But today, they were touching and laughing and flirting. However, Red pushed it aside and came toward them.
"Well, goodnight El..." Cecelia smiled,
"Good night, Cece..."
"Red..." Cecelia said, cuddling up to him,
"What..."
"What's wrong..."
"Nothing..." He rolled his eyes at her,
"Red..."
"WHAT!"
"Nothing... Good night, I guess..."
"Wait..."
"What..." Cecelia sighed. She saw a glimpse of Elvis leaving to take a shower, "Is something going on between you and Elvis..." He asked, "The two of you are acting... Funny, and I'm noticing small things..."
"For heaven's sake, we're best friends, Red!"
"I know that. I'm not talking about being friends. I mean, are you two..."
"Are we what?"
"Have you two been... y'know..."
"Red, just say it..."
"Have you two been sleeping together..."

Mississippi June of 1946
The night sky was as dark as the roads, not a star in sight. The moon jaded by fog from the hot summer nights in the delta. Cicadas and crickets played their melodies, and in the still of the night was a 1946 Cadillac convertible cruising down the highway. The radio played some jazz tunes, then blues, then back to jazz, the couple in the front seat arguing just by their glares at each other. "Stop changing the station..." Denise said, letting out an exhausting sigh of disgust. She was looking out the window. Her victory red lips turned into a snarl, green eyes as piercing as a snake, "Don't you go pinning the blame on me." Alfonso said, eyes focused on the road, "Seems that's all you ever do now." He mumbled under his breath. His foot tapping in anger, "Seems all you ever do is cheat..." Denise spat back her venom at him,
"Just ain't gone let that go!" his southern accent as poisonous as her northern accent, "least I ain't creeping round with Sinatra!" Alfonso threw that at her as she was fuming hot.
"At least he knows a good thing when he sees it." She mumbled,
"Just like Cab, right..." Alfonso kept driving, "Exposin our daughter to all these menfolk, an not her pa." He kept laughing. He could see his wife getting madder by the minute. "I should've never married a country bumkin like you," Denise said. He felt his heart shatter, "Hate the country anyways. It's got nothing but grass and trees and cows." she spat. All Alfonso could do was laugh, "You know our daughters a country bumpkin too," turning to look back at their eleven-year-old daughter who was wearing a pink belted dress and a ribbon in her hair to match.
"Not if I can help it." Denise rolled her eyes,
"Right." He sighed, "Cause you city women gotta have it your way or no way." He nodded as Denise nodded in agreement,
"Are you all fighting again..." Cecelia asked,
"No, little pumpkin, we're just talkin." Alfonso said as Cecelia sighed, "Sounds like fighting to me." she mumbled, turning over and trying to get comfortable.
"Sounds like you need to go to sleep, princess," Denise added as Cecelia smiled and drifted off.
"God, how did we end up like this..." Denise whispered, a tear down her face, now matching the rain on her window.
The strong gust of wind nearly shook the white shotgun house as the rain began to pour down harder. There was a word in town that a nasty storm was brewing in the delta, but that didn't stop the Presley family. Sitting around the table were Vernon and Elvis. They didn't have much when it came to dinner, but it was enough for them, and that enough was a blessing, "You excited for summer?" Vernon asked Elvis as he was reading a comic book at the table. "Elvis, what have I told you about readin' at the table," Gladys asked as he blushed. Elvis didn't mean any harm. He was excited to get his hands on his favorite superhero. "Sorry, mama." Elvis said, "I can finally ride my bike a bit!" He smiled. Until the lightning struck, which seemed to dampen the plan of any fun for tomorrow.
"Maybe when the storm lets up booby." Gladys winked, sitting at the table. With dinner, it had been vegetables, but food was food. The family had taken each other's hands as they began to pray over their dinner, another peaceful night at the Presley household.
KNOCK!
             KNOCK!
KNOCK!
"Who could that be at this hour." Vernon groaned, looking at the car parked at their front door. It was a shining red Cadillac and a man dressed in an expensive suit was knocking on the door. Alfonso stood, getting drenched, as he waited for someone to answer. He didn't care whose door he knocked on. He prayed that they wouldn't kill him regardless. "Can I help you..." Vernon opened the door, his mouth nearly opened. Alfonso Reed was at their quaint home. The infamous blues player with a godsent guitar rhythm was here,
"Vernon, is everything okay?"Gladys asked. Alfonso gulped, knowing that he may have knocked on the wrong door, but he didn't care,
"Sorry to bother you all, but my family and I got caught in the rain and..."
"We need a place to stay," Denise said, standing beside Alfonso as Gladys was shocked,
"Well, Vernon, don't just stand there, let 'em in." Gladys ushered Denise in as Alfonso went to pick up Cecelia.
"Where are we..."
"In shelter, little pumpkin," Alfonso said, carrying her through the rain,
"A porch swing..." Cecelia mumbled. There wasn't much room, but the love inside made it feel like a mansion. Standing in awe at the pair was Elivs, his blue eyes in awe that the greatest musicians would be staying the night and possibly going tomorrow before he could even ask him questions about how to play the guitar he had gotten.
"We've got a double if you want, it ain't much, but-"
"More than what I had growin up," Alfonso said to Vernon as both men laughed,
"Would you like anything to eat?" Gladys asked, "We hadn't finished dinner yet."
"I think we'll head off to bed. Our little pumpkin here is drifting like a rock."Denise smiled. Pretty blue eyes followed the frame of the other child. She had to be the same age as Elvis, but he'd figure all that out in the morning.
"Good night, Mr. and Mrs. Valmos!" Vernon waved off as Gladys nudged him, "Sorry, we're fans."
"Nice to meet a fan," Alfonso said as Denise tried not to shutter at the labels given, "We'll see you lovely folks in the morning. Mr. and Mrs. uh?"
"Presley, I'm Gladys, and this is Vernon, my husband, and our son Elvis."Gladys smiled as Denise nodded. Were they such an odd couple?
"Don't expect me to be here in the morning," Denise said, undressing herself. "And where are you going," Alfonso asked. Denise gave him the cold shoulder, "Out." she rolled her eyes, placing her hat in her suitcase as she groaned. Denise never wanted to be back in a place like this, but here Denise was, and Denise felt disappointed for the family. They deserved more, and Denise wanted to help for as long as they'd be here. The sounds of rain soothed the morning sun as the front door closed slowly. Denise had walked to the grocery store and brought breakfast. It was the least she could do to say thank you to the family, as this would be their last day in the small town, or so she thought. "Need any help?"Elvis asked. He'd been trying to play his guitar as Denise giggled a little,
"No, I've got it, but you get washed up for breakfast." Denise had begun making sausage patties and many other fine breakfast treats as Gladys walked in,
"You didn't have to do that!"
"I wanted to say thank you." Denise smiled.
"You know, I thought famous people had cooks," Gladys said as Denise chuckled, "They do, but I get joy out of cooking for my family, "Denise mentioned, and Gladys pitched in to help make biscuits.
"I heard that!" Gladys smiled, "Been kinda tough, though, between picking up jobs an our eleven-year-old son getting sick from time to time," She huffed, "It's rough."
"I understand. I've got an Eleven-year-old girl who likes climbing trees. And gets pneumonia every winter." Denise chuckled,
"The joys of motherhood huh," Gladys chuckled,
Outside, Vernon and Alfonso were packing up the little he took out until Alfonso noticed a hole in the tire of his car, by hole a rip,
"Seems you drove over a screw..."
"You don't say." He glared, taking a cigarette out of his pocket and handing one to Vernon, "Mechanic ain't in town til Monday..." he took a drag as Alfonso groaned, "Think we can fix it ourselves?"
"We can try Fons. Can I call you Fons?"
"Sure, Pres." Vernon had begun to pat him on the back, the two becoming good friends already.
Cecelia took a deep breath as she was finally up. Dressed in overalls and a white blouse shirt, she tied her saddle shoes and kept walking into she bumped into someone,
"Ouch!"
"You okay?" Cecelia looked up as she saw a boy with blonde hair and blue eyes bending over to help her up,
"Yeah, I'm okay." taking his hand as she blushed a little, "Thanks."
"I-I-I'm Elvis." a blush crept on his face as he rubbed the back of his pretty blonde hair,
"Cecelia Shanel Valmos, nice to meet ya!" shaking his hand, his heart began to beat like he was running around with his friends, "Y-You too, uh, say you like comics?" He asked as she turned around,
"Probably not cause you're a girl, an girls don't like comics an-"
"I love comics. My favorite is the Flash." Cecelia grinned, running around as he laughed. She had energy, and she seemed fun. She'd make a good friend, was what he thought. "Oh, do you like music!" she asked as his face beamed,
"I love music. What about you?" What about you... He thought to himself. She was the daughter of two singers and a guitar player. Of course, she loved music.
"I like blues, anything with a guitar," Cecelia said,
"So...do you play guitar?" He asked as Cecelia saw the one in the corner,
"May I?"
"Sure, I'm kinda bad at it anyway."
Cecelia began to strum the guitar as she played a song that was her favorite, Milkcow Blues Boogie. She had sung a little, and Elvis thought it was neat.
"Can you teach me?"
"Guitar?"
"Yeah..."
"Of course!" Cecelia grinned,
"Kids breakfast!" Denise shouted as Cecelia and Elvis looked at each other and ran off to the smell of a home-cooked meal.
"Seems someone made a friend," Denise mumbled as Gladys agreed,
"You know, I have some friends, an we run down to the creek sometimes an play around. Wanna come if the rain stops!"
"Mother, may I!" Cecelia asked, her southern accent that he had just heard had disappeared almost,
"Cece... you'll get hurt, and besides we'll be leaving soon and-"
"Turns out we're staying..." Alfonso smiled, "There's a rip in the tire, and the mechanic shop ain't open til Monday." He shrugged,
"We tried fixing it but made it worse," Vernon added as the two sat down, covered in oil and debris. Gladys and Denise rolled their eyes.
"Can I play with my new friend?" Cecelia asked,
"Cece..."Denise said, making her plate.
"Oh hell, Denise, let her have a childhood. She ain't got but too many friends back home."
"I don't like that Rosa girl..." Denise huffed, "And don't start now! Fine, go play!" Denise sighed, looking at Cecelia as she finished eating and took Elvis by the hand. It was sunny outside, a bit hot, but she didn't mind. It felt like her true home, North Carolina, and not Georgia, which felt stuffy and weird. Running down toward the creek were a few other boys, who she assumed were his friends.
"EP!" They shouted at him, waving.
"Awe, man, you brought a girl with you. They have cooties!" one boy said as Cecelia growled,
"Nu-Uh, she's different. She likes comics and playin' guitar!" Elvis smirked, defending his new friend,
"You like climbin' trees?" another boy asked,
"I'm a tree climbin' champion!" Cecelia smirked, her hands on her hips,
"Prove it!"
"Watch this!" Cecelia ran up to the nearest tree and she began to climb, leaving all the boys to watch her climb. They were truly impressed as she kept going, though Elvis was a bit worried. What if she fell or worse?
"See told ya!" hanging upside down from the branch as she giggled,
"Whose next, or are all you boys chicken?"
"She's brave."
"She still got cooties..."
"Does not!" Elvis shouted as he went up to climb next to her. When he did, he tagged her on the shoulder and said,
"You're it!" Running around the creek the kids had all begun to run away from Cecelia as they now were playing tag. Denise and Gladys watched from the windows. They both were wondering what exactly God had in store and why this family.
"Tag, you're it, El!" Cecelia giggled, running. Elvis began to run as he started getting a bit out of breath, he was trying his best to keep up, but one of his many illnesses was catching up to him, Cecelia stopped and ran over to him,
"El! Are you okay!" he was breathing harder as if he were having an attack. "MAMA!!!!" Cecelia shouted, "SOMETHINGS WRONG!"

Nashville Tennessee 1960
Rain was beating against the Valmos mansion windows as the trees rattled and the thunder rolled. Cecelia held a knife in her hand as she was covered in blood looming over a body. Carting him out in her Persian rug and into her car, she drove down to the river, lifted him over the railing, sliced his heart out, and as she let him go, she felt his hands around her throat, choking her. Cecelia couldn't breathe. She had a lump in her throat. Her heart was beating fast, and all she could do was scream. Midge ran to her bedside as she jolted up like a corpse, taking its last breath,
"Boss, what's wrong..."
"H-He...." Her hands were shaking, and her lips were dry,
"Anthony again..."
"Mhmm..."
"Should I send in Rosa or Carlotta..."
"Neither," She sighed, putting on her robe as she walked outside. Taking in the fresh air, she felt lonely, haunted even with her lack of romance, though she was running an empire.
"Cil..."
"Hmmm, Daphane..."
"A present."
"Who's it from?"
"Elvis..." Cecelia opened the box and inside was a garnet and pink diamond ring. She knew Elvis had a way with gifts, but she knew he had a way with women, and those blue eyes already broke her before he'd even say anything to her.
Please don't send this back.
-Elvis Presley
P.S. There's a matching earring set.
"If you don't want his gift, I'll take it," Daphane said. Laughing, Cecelia blushed a little. No, she couldn't feel giddy, it wasn't like her,
"I think I'll keep this one."
Memphis Tennessee 1960
"Heard you wanted to see me..." Elvis said he was standing in her almost-finished dance hall when he noticed the earrings and ring on her finger. So he did find something she liked, "Yeah, look, I know what you're doing, okay." Elvis's heartbeat began to race as he was nervous about what she was going to say,
"And what am I doing..."
"Trying to butter me up so you can get me all vulnerable, and then when you have me right where you want me..." She paused as he looked at her, 'You'll crush the air from out my lungs." Elvis grabbed her by the arms as he hugged her,
"I could never crush you..."
"You're bluffing." She stayed in his chest,
"Well, you keep burning my covers to hell and back." He laughed as he looked down at her. Elvis and Cecelia were good friends. They had moments of destroying each other, but they'd been friends for years.
"You keep burning mine..." She looked up at him as their eyes met,
"See, you liked the jewelry set ..."
"It was pink."
"You could just say thank you."
"To you... No," She laughed as he unwrapped himself from her.
"So, really, why'd you wanna meet?"
"Well, I open tomorrow. And I want you as a partner..."
"Me?"
"Didn't I tell you? You don't want me as an enemy?" she smirked, walking as she began to show him around, "You did..." He laughed. There were moments like this that gave Elvis hope that she liked him, but she was tricky and a bit moody blue sometimes, but he adored her the same.
 "Look about your covers."
"Don't worry, Cil, I'm fixing them."
"They should be back up in a few months. You're welcome." She smiled at him as he turned to blush, "Did Mrs. Gladys Love Smith Presley not teach you to say thank you!"
"I-I, uh, I'm shocked, is all."
"Don't be. I like you, and I've been going through a lot, okay." She mentioned as he began to notice the lack of sleep under her eyes,
"What's wrong, Cece..." He stopped walking as she kept going.
"Nothing..."
"Cecelia..." She looked at him, and those blue eyes were not fading from her viewpoint, "Don't make me ask you again." He glanced at her,
"I had a nightmare. Everyone has a nightmare. It was stupid."
"Was it him..."
"Yeah, it was..." She sat next to him. Her hand was shaking. He knew about Anthony. He'd had his boys come after him a few times,
"Same thing... Or,"
"I felt him choke me..." She shook her head, "It felt real..." she whispered, her hand on her neck as Elvis took it and placed her hand in his,
"Well, it ain't real..." He looked at her again. She was at peace around him, but she couldn't be. She could not let her guard down, and he knew it, but he wished that once she'd let him in like she used to. "I know..." Moving her hand away from his as he sighed, the room was quiet as they heard footsteps. Their hands had both reached for their guns as they shot two of Anthony's men. It had to have been his mother sending them.
"You take that end, I'll take the other end," Elvis said as she nodded,
"Gotcha..." She nodded, loading more bullets into her pistol as she continued to shoot. Blood was pooling around her feet in her new club, but Elvis wanted to keep her safe. As they finished their blood bath, Elvis came back carrying one of the men,
"Figured you'd wanna torture this one."
"Figured you'd want this one... asshole made me chip a nail, so I chipped his tooth." She smiled, oh was Elvis a bit horny and horrified,
"You wanna..."
"Yeah..."
"Girls take the folds off them..." Cecelia commanded as the two guys looked scared shitless. Elvis stood with Cecelia as Carlotta glared, "He's not a foe tonight..." Rosa mumbled as Daphane gave her a pair of pillars,
"Uh, you want a hammer, Elvis?"
"Nah, I'll use my rings, honey," He winked as they left them. The two men were a part of the Rodgers mob, but she needed to know how they found her.
"This can be either easy or hard..." She paced as they watched, "You tell me things, I tell you things..." She smiled as they smirked, "But if you don't tell me things, you'll lose blood." She said as Elvis chuckled. A few moments later, the two men still wouldn't spill. Cecelia took a deep breath as she pilled one man's nail bed back and ripped more nails from his fingers. Elvis had shot his guy in the knees twice.
"Now talk before she starts rippin teeth..."
"Okay, okay!"
"I'm listening..."
"Fuck you!" The other goon said as Elvis shot him,
"ELVIS AARON!" Cecelia looked at him in distress.
"What, he was rude," Elvis sighed. Something about him pushing his hair back with blood on his face was sending her into a heated frenzy,
 "Great..."
"Carlotta sent us to kill him!" Cecelia smirked at what he had to say,
"You're bluffing..."
"I-I-...."
"She can smell bullshit..." Elvis leaned in, "The truth just might work out for ya, son..." The goon spat in her face as Cecelia slit his throat open, "ARGH!" Her knife still going, " YOU BASTARD, NO ONE SPITS IN MY FACE, YOU GOT IT, ANTHO-" Elvis pulled her away from the body as he took the knife from her hand,
"Cecelia Shanel Valmos! He's dead!"
"I... What happened?"
"Ya snapped." He shook his head, "Look, how about you come to my place and-"
"You feed those bodies to the pigs, have your boys make sausages, and I'll send them as "gifts"." She grabbed him as he took her to his limo. When they arrived at his home, Jerry and Joe greeted him until they saw her.
 "Why's she here..."
"Relax, we had a rough day Jerbear." She sighed. Jerry glared at Elvis,
"Two bodies in the trunk. Have Red and Billy deal with those."
"I'm gonna shower, so don't you try anything, Pres," Cecelia smirked as Elvis rolled his eyes,
"You'd shoot me if I did, " He laughed as Judy watched, "So you do like someone..."

Valmos Mansion Nashville Tennessee 1957
"So, you and this Elvis friend of yours..." Denise said as she was chopping up vegetables for dinner. Cecelia was seasoning the steaks, "Hmm? Oh yes, he's a great guy." Cecelia smiled. Her mind was wandering to the moment that he would arrive at the front door of this prominent mansion that she called home, "I see. Clearly, he's not ashamed to be around you." Denise commented as Cecelia playfully rolled her eyes. Cecelia had shaken her head, sure her mother meant well, but then again. Her mother was having a rumored fling with her childhood crush, Frank Sinatra, "Of course not. He's always hanging around Beale Street," Cecelia giggled. She was too, but her mother couldn't know that "I promise you, you're gonna love him. He gets shy sometimes and stutters, but he means well." Cecelia blushed hard as she then heard the steps creak. Coming downstairs was her grandmother Calpurnia, born in 1892, a cabaret star and still an entertainment knockout,
"Talkin about that pelvis boy again?" Calpurnia asked as Cecelia nodded,
"When isn't she. It's Elvis did this and Elvis that and-"
DING DONG
               DING DONG
"ELVIS IS AT THE DOOR. I'M NOT READY!" Cecelia shouted, running upstairs, as her grandmother laughed, "If I didn't know any, better. I'd think they were dating." She mumbled as she walked towards the door. Elvis had a nice suit jacket and black slacks. His loafers and a bouquet of red roses in his hand. After all, he wanted to make a strong impression on her mother. It wasn't because she was a big name in the industry. She was the mother of his girlfriend, who was slowly secretly moving into Graceland. When the door opened, he was expecting Denise. Instead, it was,
"Well, aren'tcha you cuter in person. Come on in." Her northern accent was strong.
"Thank you, Ma'am." Elvis smiled as Calpurnia looked at him. She could see why her granddaughter was obsessed with him. Those pretty long eyelashes, his eyes, and his dimples, she was smitten,
"Please call me Mrs. Valmos," Calpurnia winked,
"Wait, this is..."
"My mansion." She winked, "Long ago, I was Betty Va Va." Walking by a portrait of herself from the 1920s, Elvis admired it as he saw the similarities between her and Cecelia, "Of course, when your mothers a devoted preacher wife, you get rid of the vava and keep Betty," on the wall were platinum records and gold ones, he'd have thought that Cecelia's grandmother was the queen of the big bands Betty Valmos, but he nodded and reveled in her greatness,
"Going on about your glory days, Mother," Denise asked as she then saw Elvis. He was still holding tight to the roses, and he nearly froze. He was standing in front of his mother's favorite jazz artist, Denise Valmos,
 "Hello, young man..."
"S-S-Sorry, I'm uh Elvis Presley, Ma'am." God, where was Cecelia. He was trembling in his loafers right now,
"Ma'am makes me feel old, call me Ms. Valmos." Denise glanced at him. He was cute, tall, dark, and handsome. And he reminded her of Sinatra when she and him were both young. She could see why Cecelia was a fanatic,
"I-I got these for you. Cecelia said red was your favorite color."
"They're lovely, I'll put them in a vase and send for Cecelia." Her Philadelphian accent was strong, but it was classy,
"Of course, Ms. Valmos," He nodded, sitting in the living room, looking at the chandelier. There were pictures on the fireplace mantel of Cecelia, her mother, and her father, then of just her mother and her. He felt sorrowful for her. But he knew life was different for everyone.
"Cecelia, what'stakin' you long!" Denise knocked at the door. As Calpurnia chuckled. "She's getting pretty for that boy."
"Or kissing that damn poster..." Denise sighed. Cecelia was on her tippytoes as she left a deep red print on her Elvis poster. When she finished, she flattened out her red gingham dress, wiggled her petticoat, and walked downstairs.
"Don't you look like a cute picnic tablecloth?" Calpurnia chuckled,
"Glammy..." Cecelia glanced at her,
"What push comes to shove. It's one way to get him on top of you. I mean, hey, men like food," She shrugged as Denise was red in the face.
"Must you be vulgar!"
"Must you keep tryin to shelter your 22-year-old child?" Calpurnia walked past her. Cecelia walked down the steps, she saw Elvis leaning on the couch, comfortable with his legs open,
"Careful, you'll pinch a nerve," Calpurnia mumbled,
"Mr. Presley..." Denise said as he stood up, helping her down the stairs, then Calpurnia and then his precious Cecelia, who he couldn't help but stare at, sneaking a kiss on her wrist as she giggled,
 "You look beautiful..."
"Thank your ho- Mr. Presley," She blushed, the pair walking to the kitchen. There was an array of food on the table, honey biscuits, steak, macaroni and cheese, mixed vegetables, greens, and more, Elvis felt like he was in heaven,
"So blue eyes..." Calpurnia said,
"ma'am?"
"How's a boy like you not married. I mean, if I were your age, I'd-"
"Mother!" Denise nudged her as Calpurnia laughed. Elvis laughed at the flattery, "I'm just saying, Denise, have you seen his hips move." Calpurnia said between eating, "There's a lot more they can do..." Cecelia mumbled as Elvis was a beating bright red,
"I-I'm glad someone enjoys my dancin." He was flustered, but he loved it,
"Forgive her, she's 65." Denise laughed,
"Not a problem at all," He laughed as Cecelia drank her lemonade. Elvis held her hand as Calpurnia noticed. She knew something was up.
"So, I heard you bought a mansion in Memphis?" Denise said, cutting her steak as Cecelia sighed, "I assume you plan to have parties and whatnot in it."
"Oh no, Ms. Valmos, Nothin like that. My family mostly lives with me,includin my parents." He smiled as she nodded, "There's a special girl in mind I've got movin in me with me, but parties, not too many." Elvis flinched when he felt Cecelia kick his thigh under the table,
"So you're traditional?" Calpurnia asked,
"Yes, Ma'am." He smiled,
"God-fearing too, I suppose?"
"He's always reading his bible, and if he's not, then he's quoting scripture," Cecelia added, their eyes meeting as Denise and Calpurnia looked at each other, some friends they must've been.
"Good, Good, pastors run in our family, and singers," Denise said
"Really?" Elvis was happy to hear that.
"Yes, which makes me wonder. You probably are a firm believer in no sex before marriage." Calpurnia said, grabbing another biscuit, Elvis got quiet, and Cecelia laughed,
"I mean, my granddaughter has been raised to be untouched until then, and she will remain untouched, correct,"
Cecelia was sweating bullets as Elvis was laughing at her now.
"This dinner is amazing, don't you think so Elvis."
"Y-Yeah, love the plates, delicious." He smiled,
"You two are still virgins, aren't you..." Calpurnia asked as even Denise was intrigued, "Glammy, this is dinner... it's rude and unjust to ask such a thing." Her voice went up an octave,
"You know these greens and this here steak is amazin." Elvis smiled, "Y'all should try the uh-uh honey rolls, so good you could make love to 'em- WHich I've never done!" Elvis was so embarrassed he didn't know what he was saying. All Cecelia wanted to do was pass away at the very moment. Denise couldn't help but laugh at his response as Cecelia was still sweating,
"You know Elvis and I are workin in a movie together soon!" she blurted out as the room fell silent. For once, it felt great,
As the night progressed from its awkward start, Elvis learned that Cecelia was surrounded by love, a slightly strict mother and manager, but love,
"I'm so sorry about tonight. I-I didn't think she'd ask something like that or the many weird questions or-" Elvis pulled her close as he gave her a tender, passionate kiss. Cecelia kissed back with the same passion, her fingers in his hair, and her eyes closed. She didn't want to watch him leave out the driveway, but she knew she'd see him later on tonight in her room, next to his.
"Honey, your family is lovely, and one day I'll marry into it." He kissed her again, not noticing the door opening,
"Uh-huh... I knew it.."
"Glammy!? How much did you hear?"
"Everything," Calpurnia said, dressed in her night gown, "So, I assume I'll be covering for you tonight." Elvis and Cecelia blushed,
"Glammy, you mean you-"
"Mhmm, you two gone on home, I'll handle the rest." She winked, watching her granddaughter leave out with Elvis.
"Mother where's Cece?"
"She went to rehearse with Elvis..."

Memphis, Tennessee, Saturday, May 1953
"When are you going to see him again?"
"Tomorrow, after church," She blushed, sitting on the couch as she swooned. Cecelia didn't have a crush at all. Besides, he was her friend, and friends don't crush each other. At least, she didn't think so,
"So what else did you two do,"
"We went dancin," She giggled, "We saw Beale Street." Clutching her heart as she began to dance around. Oh, she was lovesick,
"Then what happened, Booby," Gladys asked as she was mopping the floor,
"Then we talked, he smiled, "And when she talked, well..." He blushed as she looked up at her son,
"Well?"
"I believed everything she said I could be." He sighed. He was giddy and wishful,
"Mama,"
"Hmmm?"
"I think I got a thing for her." He laughed, "I mean today. We were at Lanksy's. She had me try on stuff 'cause she believed I-I could buy it one day!" He laughed,
"Sounds like someone you'd want around you." She kissed his cheek as he smiled,
 "Well, good night, mama."
"Night." She winked,
"So, what's that all about?" Vernon asked as Gladys chuckled,
"Elvis is in love."
"Again..."
Memphis, Tennessee, Sunday, May 1953
Cecelia was in the kitchen baking snacks for when Elvis came over. She'd been out of her church clothes and wearing a blouse and pink. Humming a tune as she was whisking away at the brownie batter. Everyone also appreciated her pastries, especially her brownies. "You've been baking up a storm, haven't you?" Denise looked at the flour on her daughter's face, a sigh from when she'd do the same thing.
"Well, did you give him your address..." Cecelia paused as she heard the phone ring. She'd hoped it was him because she clearly forgot to do so.
"And Who's this calling..." Denise said,
"E-Elvis M'am."
"Cece, it's for you." Cecelia rushed to the phone as she answered, "El, hi!" She blushed as Denise shook her head, laughing,
"Cece, so uh..."
"I know. I forgot to give you my address." She said. Telling him as he wrote it down,
"So, do you need me to bring anything?"
"Just yourself,"
"Val, you sure?"
"Pres, I've baked treats and made lemonade." She smiled as he shook his head. Was it too soon to say he'd want to marry her? or was he just simply hungry.
"Alright, I'll be there."
"See you." She was giggling and twirling her hair as her mother cleared her throat,
"Oh! Uh!"
"You like him, don't you."
"A-As friends..."
"C..."
"Okay, okay, a little." Denise looked at her, "A lot." Cecelia blushed. A few minutes later, a knock on their door and Denise went to answer it. Standing there was the cutest little button of a teenager she had seen. He had a somewhat choppy haircut, the cutest blue eyes, and he was a bit pimply, but he was dressed nicely, but he must have been in the wrong neighborhood. After all, this was the black suburbs,
"Hello, Mrs."
"Mrs. Denise and you are?"
"El, you made it!" Cecelia blushed. So this was Elvis. Denise chuckled a bit as she shook her head. Seeing them interact. It made sense. They'd make a cute couple, but it was also 1953, so that wouldn't be so likely.
"I'm Elvis. I uh bought a pie, my mama refused, I come empty-handed." He smiled as Denise's heart melted. He was so sweet already and nothing like the guys Cecelia had liked in the past.
"Well, I'll be in the basement working on some things. If you need me, call." She smiled as they nodded,
"Your mother looks familiar."
"Oh, does she?" Cecelia began to sweat, hoping he wouldn't ask her a question she didn't want to answer, "Yeah, but I can't trace it," he shrugged, "So about last night?"
"I had a great time." Walking to the dining room, which was furnished with a few of her mother's awards, Elvis glanced at them as he put his attention back on her.
"Me too." He smiled. Sitting at the kitchen table, watching her, "I'd like to hang around you more." She smiled, making him a plate of pastries, "You should come over sometime for dinner!" Elvis smiled. His parents would have loved to meet her. After all, he'd been talking about her for two days non-stop.
"I'd like that!"
"And maybe you'd like to go to prom with me?" Cecelia froze as she was trying to figure out how to respond, putting his plate in front of him as he looked at her face. He seemed doubtful until he heard her say,
"Oh, Elvis!"
"Is that a ..."
"Yes, I'd love to. We could wear pink together!" She said as Elvis laughed. He loved her enthusiasm and her energy. And he also loved her brownies, reaching for another as he kept eating.
"Unless you don't wanna wear pink," pouring a glass of lemonade into a crystal glass as she was getting excited, "We could do purple or white, or-" Elvis kissed her cheek. He was feeling bold. Scared, she almost dropped the glass, and he caught it.
"Pink is perfect, Cece." He smiled,
"Did you kiss me on the cheek?" She asked.
"Yes, I did."
"Mhmm..." She kissed him on the cheek as sweet revenge until she landed in his lap. Her temperature rose as she looked at him,
"Hiya..."
"Hello." He took in the features of her face as she did the same, the two leaning in closer and closer.
"WHAT IS GOING ON HERE!" Midge shouted as Cecelia broke apart from Elvis,
"He had dust in his eye!" She panicked, Elvis laughed at the lie as Midge rolled her eyes,
"Names Midge and you?"
"Elvis Presley." He stuck his hand out towards her, and Midge shook it, "I won't tell your mother that you two were gonna go to Makeout City if you pay me in those cookies."
"We were not! We're just friends!" Cecelia shouted as she got up and gave her the plate, Elvis laughed. They were indeed friends, for now. "We're prom dates." He smirked as Midge nodded,
"Let me ask you a question, kid."
"BB King or Frank Sinatra,"
"BB King, Easy!"
"I like this kid," Midge winked as she kept walking,
"So..."
"That's my mother's assistant. She's like a sister to me."
Memphis, Tennessee, Monday, May 1953
"So, did you ask her?" Red asked as Elvis nodded, a few of his friends gathering around him in the hallway,
"And..."
"She's my prom date." Elvis smiled.
"Well, I wanna meet her. You keep calling us about her," Darla said, as she rolled her eyes, "Oh, here she comes." Red smiled as Cecelia walked in, her skirt swaying in motion. She smelled like roses. Her hair was in a bumper bang and a ponytail. A few of his friends figured she was way out of his league. She was beautiful, charismatic, and brave for breaking barriers.
"Hi, I'm Cecelia,"
"Darla, this is, Betty, and-"
"Red West?" Cecelia smiled as he nodded, "Elvis told me a lot about you yesterday,"
"Yesterday?"
"Yeah, we hung out at her house," Elvis said as they snickered. He had to be lying.
"Oh, speaking of! Here's those Captain Marvel Jr comics I promised."
"Thanks, Cece." They all nodded, noticing her Jay Garrick lunchbox. It all made sense now.
"So, you two going study or..." the pair blushed as Elvis's hand brushed against Cecelia's, her cheeks flushing, "They're together, but they don't know it yet..." Red whispered. Walking to class, Cecelia still got a few stares, but she didn't care. She had something that they wished they did, friends.
"So you think you'd like to come for dinner tonight?" Elvis asked as Cecelia whispered back.
 "It's a school night..."
"I know, I know, but they want to meet'cha." He smiled,
"I suppose I could." Cecelia smiled,
When the bell rang, Cecelia dashed to her house to tell her mother the news, "I'm having dinner at Elvis's house!" She shouted as Denise poked her head out of the kitchen, "I'm glad. I'm having dinner with Cab tonight. So take Midge with you."She smiled as Cecelia groaned. Midge came from the basement as if she were summoned. "Does the kid's parents know you're not exactly uh-"
"Midge!" Cecelia sighed,
"Hey, only stating facts. I mean, if he's gonna be your prom date."
"Prom date?" Denise blinked, "You got asked to prom?"
"Yeah, yesterday." Cecelia smiled, "It's nothing," she blushed, "Nothing, that young man asked you a black girl to prom, automatically that is something." Denise sighed, trying not to panic.
"The kid likes BB King, so..." Midge smirked, "He's kinda black in my book." Cecelia high-fived Midge as Denise burst out in laughter,
"You two, I swear," Denise chuckled,
"Well, I'm gonna get changed and make a pie,"
"Wouldn't you make the pie first?" Denise smiled,
"Right!"
"What's she like?" Gladys asked, Elvis was smiling from ear to ear, "Oh, uh, food. I guess, I mean, she bakes good, so I assume good cookin?" He said. He had finished his homework and finished getting ready. As Vernon walked in, he could tell everyone was up to something. "Cecelia's comin over, an I want it perfect. Cause she's going to be my prom date." He swooned, and Vernon and Gladys and Minnie perked up,
"You asked her!"
"I did."
"Oh, she must be special." Vernon smiled as he helped get their apartment ready.
Midge parked her car in front of the high-rise apartment as she stared in awe, "You know I lived in one of these growing up in New York." She smiled, "Broke some girl's hearts on those steps, ah good times." Cecelia was nervous. She was meeting his parents. And she had a wild berry pie, a sweet potato pie, and honey rolls in the car. Carrying as much as they could up. They walked into the building and towards the door. Opening the door, Elvis was stunned. Cecelia was wearing a pink Gingham dress with matching pink heels, and he was smitten.
"Oh, Elvis." Gladys smiled as she saw Cecelia. She was as cute as a button, short. But, she could tell she was sweet by her spirit,
"You must be Mrs. Presley." Cecelia smiled as she nodded, "I hope you don't mind, but I brought my friend Midge with me." Midge waved as they came in.
"I see you made desserts," Vernon mentioned,
"Oh yes, I didn't wanna be rude and not bring anythang." She was southern, thank the lord, Gladys praised as she helped her carry in the food, "All handmade too." And she could cook! As the night went on, there was laughing, love, and a lot to learn from the Presley family,
"So tell me, what do your parents do?"
"They sin-" Midge tried to say
"They're, uh. Trying to get into the singing business." Cecelia said she wasn't lying, just bending the truth,
"I take it you sing?" Vernon asked,
"Like an angel, and she plays guitar," Elvis mentioned, making her blush.
"The angel is Elvis. Honestly, he's never treated me like the other kids do. He's sweet and kind and..." Cecelia got lost in his eyes as Elvis blushed. Everyone at the table was looking at them. There was definitely something there. Gladys could feel it,
"I'm glad to be his prom date, it's an honor,"
"Oh, it ain't nothing, really, I just think you're the prettiest girl in school." Elvis smiled, holding her hand as her cheeks flushed, Midge was proud. She'd seen Cecelia through her breakups, but this may have been a soulmate.
"These pies are delicious," Vernon smiled, breaking up the tension as Cecelia held Elvis's hand back,
"The secret recipe is love," Cecelia smiled. As the night wrapped up, Midge went to start the car, Cecelia said her goodbyes, and Elvis walked her downstairs,
"I hope what I said wasn't too much on ya."
"I never had someone say any of those sweet things."
"Well, you do now, say. Uh, you wanna catch a movie at the drive-in?"
"I'd like that." She smiled as he pushed a loose hair behind her ear.
"It'll, uh, be a couple of friends and-" Cecelia kissed him on the cheek,
"Pick me up at 7." She smirked, walking to her car as Midge pretended she wasn't listening in,
"Ooo, Cece's got a date..."
"It's not a date!"
"Then what is it?"
"An outing between two friends..."
"At the passion pit..." She looked over at Cecelia
Memphis, Tennessee, Tuesday, May 1953
"I'm going out, Mother, I'll see you tonight!" Cecelia said, racing out of the house in her blouse, a long poodle skirt, bobby socks, and loafers. Her pink scarf tied in her ponytail as she giggled,
"Who are you going out with ?"
"Elvis~" Midge laughed as Denise shook her head, Denise did like him, but he was still a boy, and boys always liked to try things,
"Be careful and remember-"
"We're just friends..."
"Remember..."
"I know, I know, nothing below this here belt." She sighed,
"I mean, how would you know... She's wearing a skirt..." Midge mumbled as Cecelia blushed, Denise glaring at her.
 "MiDgE!"
"Damnit, you're eighteen," Midge said. Sniffling, "Just don't do anything I wouldn't do."
"Considering she likes boys that's not much," Denise mumbled,
"Would you look at that... Elvis is here!" Cecelia gulped, running out of the house and into his car,
"You look..."
"Do you not like it? Are the pearls too much?"
"Perfect..." He smiled, kissing her cheek as she blushed again,
"Say, did you change your hair?" She asked as he blushed,
"I-I-I ah uh yeah I did..." He blushed,
"Black hair suits you. It brings out your eyes and makes you look like Superman or Captain Marvel Jr."
"Then maybe you could be my Lois Lane."
"But I do, also like the blonde and blue, which makes you look like Captain America." She gushed until she looked at him,
"Did you just..."
"I might've." He smiled as he kept driving. They got to the drive-in, and he parked his car next to his friends, the two getting out as Elvis held her near him.
"French Fry?" Cecelia offered as Elvis took some, sipping out of her cup of Pepsi cola,
"Gross... E You're a Memphian now. We drink Coke!"
"Taste the same to me."
"Pepsi is the drink of the Carolinas, but I'd say you ain't never lived til you had a Cheerwine," Cecelia smirked,
"The hell is that?" Red asked as she grinned,
"Only the fuel of a Carolinian." Cecelia laughed as she looked back and saw Elvis nibbling on her burger,
"PRES!"
The movie started, and everyone was watching the big screen. The movie, of choice was Dracula, a classic creature feature for a date that wasn't a date,
"Would you uh like to sit in the back with me?" He asked as she looked at him, "It's got more room, in case you get tired! I mean, uh-"
"I'd like that." She moved to the back seat as he followed. It was comfortable. As she got close to him, his arm around her shoulder,
"Is this okay?" He asked as her head was on his shoulder,
"Perfect." She smiled, looking up at him. His smile was warm and inviting, he was charming and peaceful, and she was falling in deep for him,
"Cece, can I tell you something?"
"Anything El," She smiled,
"I-"
"KISS, KISS, KISS, KISS." Was all they could hear being chanted from the window of the car,
Later that night, Elvis drove Cecelia home and walked her to her door as she smiled at him.
"I had a great time, Pres..."
"Me too, Val." He kissed her cheek, "I guess this is uh goodnight?" taking his arm, she pulled him close. She was hypnotized by his beauty,
"Val..."
"Hmm..."
"You're staring at me like I'm a cake slice."
"Cause maybe I wanna..."
"Wanna what-"
"Say good night to your friend," Denise said as she opened the door.

Memphis, Tennessee, Saturday, May 1953
"Is it three yet?" Cecelia asked as she was in her bedroom brushing out her curls and adding a small victory roll, adding a flower to the side for good luck. Sure, the look was out of style, but she still appreciated the timeless look,
"It's 2:40," Denise shouted back as Cecelia grinned. She was finally going to be hanging out with someone, a cool someone, a shy someone, but it was someone she could talk to and share her everything with. Taking her keys from off her dresser, she was ready to go.
"See you later, mother!"
"See you later, and be safe!"
"I will!" Walking out the door, Cecelia passed her father, "Hi Daddy, bye Daddy..." Racing to her car, she got in and drove off, waving at the fans who were there for her parents. The life of being a child that no one exactly knew had any talents.
"What's gotten into her?"
"A boyfriend." Denise rolled her eyes at her ex-husband, "You'd know that if you were in her life more."
"Maybe if you weren't so busy with Sinatra-"
"Don't you go there..."
Elvis would be lying if he wasn't twiddling his thumbs with jobs at the electric company just to kill time today. His watch was reading 2:56, which meant his shift was almost over, and he could hang out with Cecelia. Elvis couldn't wait to see her, which was totally not weird because Elvis only knew her for two days, but she was cool enough for him to be excited about seeing her, right? Either way, he knew she was worth him hanging around. Pulling back up to the store, Elvis saw her pink car. His heart was pounding out of his chest as he saw Cecelia, wearing shorts and a striped shirt, leaning against the counter with the toned legs of a dancer, and, boy, was Elvis entertained. She had on heels. And a pink chiffon bow in her hair and Elvis wanted nothing more than to pull her close and whisper sweet nothings and say-
"There you are! I was talking to this young lady here about electric wiring."
"Did you know that when the male goes into the Female, and they plug into each other, boom, we get lights!" Cecelia glanced at Elvis, acting as if she didn't know that. Meanwhile, he was thinking about a male and a female, but not lights.
"Mhmm... I-I-I'll actually be right back." Elvis said as he went to freshen up. It wasn't like he was trying to impress Cecelia, Well, maybe a little, changing out of his work slacks. He had on a pair of black slacks and a white lace see-through button-up shirt with pink socks and his loafers. When he walked out, Elvis had hoped he would have taken Cecelia's breath away, but instead, he heard, "You look good, Pres."
"Thanks, Val, you uh ready to go?"
"Yeah." Taking his keys, he opened her door, then his, as the two began their adventures,
"So where to first, record shop, comic shop?"
"Surprise me," Cecelia said, taking a bit of a glance at him as he began to drive. He wanted to rest his hand on her thigh, but friends didn't do that. He just had to focus.
"Music shop it is."
Music played on the radio as Cecelia hummed along. She could carry a tune, Elvis thought to himself as he listened. He didn't sing much unless it was at Church. Or his room or the stairs of his apartment complex. Other than that, he was a shy little thing,
"So Cece..."
"Hmm?"
"You never did tell me where you moved from."
"Well, sugar..." Elvis felt his heart pound when she said sugar. That southern drawl of hers was strong, a bit like Scarlet O'Hara but sweeter, "North Carolina, Originally born and raised, but then for three years I lived in Georgia, and that was like stickin your hand in a jar of hot peppers and rubbin your eyes afterward." she laughed as Elvis kept trying to focus on the road, but he had laughed with her too,
"Sounds like it was hell."
"You've no idea, sugar." She smiled, applying her red lipstick,
"So what about you? You don't exactly sound like a Memphian boy." She smirked as he blushed. It was back on him now, all the attention,
"Well, I was born and raised in Tupelo, Mississippi," Elvis smiled as Cecelia grinned,
"That explains that heavy accent."
"Yours ain't light either,"
"I don't know what you're talkin bout." Cecelia playful nudged him as they parked at the music store,
"Oh really, what do you call honey."
"Definitely not what you call it." She laughed at his adorable accent as he helped her out of the car,
"And what do I call it."
"Hunneh..." she mumbled as he laughed with her,
"That's what I sound like?" He questioned as she nodded,
Watching him walk to the comic store was like he was some star of importance, which to her he was. He had distinctiveness about him, but it was clear that he didn't notice it yet. When they walked in, Cecelia called to the guitars on the wall. Her medicine of choice was a Gretsch, but she didn't mind a Gibson. Or a Fender.
"Do you play?" Elvis asked
"A little..." Cecelia said, a guitar pick in her mouth, trying to reach for one of the Gibson guitars on the top shelf.
"Mind if I..." Before Cecelia could respond, she was suspended mid-air and sitting on his shoulder,
"Oh..." reaching for the guitar, she grabbed it,
"Thanks, sugar. I mean, El, Pres." She was flustered by the actions before her.
"No problem. Cece with an E," He put her down. And he grinned a little bit. Her skin was actually really smooth, not that he was surprised, but it was a bonus. Sitting down, she strummed the guitar.
"Well, I don't care if the sun don't shine. I get my lovin' in the evening time. When I'm with my baby." Cecelia began to sing as she played the song with a more bluesy rock and roll feel. She had a jazz undertone, but to Elvis, it sounded like an Angel was singing to him and a guitar princess strumming with the way her fingers were on the fret playing. It was almost as if Cecelia were a pro, and the song Cecelia picked was a classic now sung by Dean Martin.
Elvis was enchanted by her. But he couldn't be. Cecelia probably saw him as a friend anyway, and he'd been okay with that, even if his heart would simply ache from the confession.
"Do you play Pres..."
"El..."
"Elvis!"
"Hmm, sorry, I-I-I was thinkin." he stuttered as Cecelia blushed. Why was he so cute and innocent? She couldn't think of him like this. He was her friend, and he probably didn't feel the same.
"Oh, I was wondering if you played guitar."
"A little." He rubbed the back of his neck, "But how about the comic book shop?" he added. He wanted to save Beale Street for later in the afternoon when the lights started to come on, and the street really came to life,
"I'd like that," putting the guitar down. The two then walked to the comic book store,
"So, where'd you learn to sing and play like that!"
"Well, my mother. She sings, and my daddy. When he was around. Played guitar, then I learned the rest from B.B. King." She shrugged,
"A girl who enjoys good music."
"Good music, good food, and great SUPERMAN!" she rushed to the window as Elvis laughed,
"Cece, wait up!"
"EL IT'S A NEW ISSUE."
"Superman nice... But" his eyes saw a Jay Garrick comic, he snuck off and picked it up as he showed her, all he heard was a gasp,
"ELVIS YOU FOUND IT!"She threw her arms around his neck and hugged him, a blush creeping on his face,
"F-F-Found what?"
"The comic issue I've been lookin for! "
"you're welcome!" there were eyes on them as Cecelia and Elvis both blushed,
"A discount for your date there," Irene said. Irene was the daughter of the owner. She knew Elvis well, in the sense he'd buy his Captain Marvel Jr. comics here.
"She's just a friend, Irene."
"Sugar, look what I found!
"Mhmm, a friend..." Irene smirked, "I'll ring that one up, too." she winked, walking toward the counter.
"This one's gonna be legendary..." He looked at the comic book as she grinned, "Definitely legendary." They walked to the car to further their adventure. As they cruised down the street, the radio had been playing Dean Martins That's Amore, in which Cecelia had taken it upon herself to croon her entire heart out as Elvis as the test subject,
"Y-You speak Italian..."
"Well, I've sung in German, French, Italian, and Spanish," she grins, "But Sometimes I speak French."
"I-I-I-"
" Êtes-vous d'accord, Elvis?" Cecelia leaned in,
"I don't know what you just said. But hell, it sounded pretty." Elvis's brain was short-circuiting. If she was being a flirt, then he needed to get her back for it, too.
"You think so. I've been a little rusty and haven't been to a French restaurant in a while..." She sighed,
"You live an interestin life, Cece."
"I try to. Sometimes, I can never sit in one place. I have to be doing somethin. You know El. Like playing violin or singin or," Elvis was listening to her. She was passionate and energetic, a fast talker when she was excited, and he loved it.
"Am I talking too much?"
"No, you're talkin just fine," opening her door, he took her hand and helped her out as she blushed. He was a gentleman, a good listener, who had a keen attention to detail, and soft yet slightly callused hands that she could admire.
"So this is Beale Street..." She said to herself,
"Wait til you see it at 7 pm. It's only 5, so we got time to see whatever you want."
"Hmm... Let's walk and get into some good trouble." She grinned as Elvis smirked,
"I'm beginin to really like you." he said, as Cecelia blushed, "As a friend."
"Me too, kid," she giggled. Ruffling up his hair as she laughed,
"I-I- I ain't no kid, Cece, why I bet I'm older than you."
"When's your birthday, El," Cecelia smirked, stepping up to him,
"January 8th, 1935." he smirked as if he were right, and she would grovel at his feet and say she was, in fact, a kid, a mere worm, "What about you, huh,"
"January 7th, 1935." she grinned,
"Damn it, guess you're the boss." He laughed as the two then came up towards a tailor shop. Elvis was standing at the window looking at the suits and the shoes,
"Wanna go in?" Cecelia asked. Elvis looked a bit hesitant. He had always craved the look, though he knew he couldn't afford it much. But a man could dream.
"I can't afford much of anything in there..."
"Elvis Aron Presley, You are going in that store. You will try on whatever it is you want, so that way. You know what you'll want when you can," she smirked, taking him by the hand and dragging him through the doors. She was gutsy, and he liked it. Really, he loved it.
"Excuse me, but my friend here wants to try on..." Her eyes scanned the room for the pink suit that was in the window, "That fine suit right there, if you please." she smiled,
"Of course, Ms. If you'd follow me, sir."
"Cece..."
"Trust me, you'll look great." Cecelia smiled as she sat down in the waiting area, reading the men's fashion magazines and swooning at some of the men in them. She could hear Elvis in there having a bit of a ball and commotion over the experience, a snicker leaving her lips,
"Cece little help here!" was all she heard,
"You'll be fine. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about!"She shouted back. She was on a page about Frank Sinatra and her mother when her concentration was taken off guard.
"Well, Ms., what do you think?"
"Well...I..." The pink in the outfit brought out those electric baby blues, and the lace gave him this alluring, sultry feel. The pants gave him an essence that told him he could have anything he ever dreamed of, and suddenly, she was beginning to dream of him in broad daylight,
"Well, Cece..." The sinister smirk on his face was doing something she'd never felt before,
"Stand up straight..." she stood up, "Well, aren't you cookin' good lookin," Cecelia smirked, looking him up and down like one would inspect a car.
"You really think so?" He asked as he danced a little in the outfit,
"Mhmm..." Her mind was racing, but they were just friends, "You could get any girl in that."
"You should get it for your boyfriend, Ms. We'll make up a fake invoice if you want to keep you two a secret..."The clerk smirked as both Cecelia and Elvis blushed,
"Oh no, we're just friends and just browsin' around, really," He then went back to the dressing room to change into something else. Cecelia couldn't contain the blush on her face when she saw him in another outfit, "Woah... you're a knockout." She smiled,
"We have a dress that compliments his suit." The clerk said. And Cecelia was in the dressing room, turning into a young woman rather than a young girl. She was wearing the latest dress in fashion, the Wiggle dress.
"Well, what do you think?"
"I-I..." That was all Elvis could say. He short-circuited like a bad electric cable. There was no going back now. He was past a crush. He was in love.
"You're beautiful."
"You mean it?"
"Yeah..." Elvis said as he went to get changed back into his clothes. Cecelia was tricky to read, but he knew he'd get the gist of her. Cecelia couldn't help but feel butterflies in her stomach, but maybe she was just hungry. The shop keepers shook their heads. They knew young love when they saw it, and that definitely was it.
"You hungry?"
"Hmm, I could eat, El." she took his hand. She waved the shopkeepers goodbye. They waved back and watched them leave until they were safe towards wherever they were going.
"So the thing about me getting any girl..."
"You could in that outfit. You just gotta be confident, you know..." She paused. There in the cafe was an array of black skin dancing and singing, having a grand time while they were enjoying their burgers and fries,
"We can eat here if you'd like."
"YES!" this was the life she had missed, the life Elvis had always known.
"Hey Elvis!" some teenage girls waved at him as he waved back.
"Hey Mildred, Shirley, Rudy," he winked as they giggled, "Who's your friend."
"Cecelia Valmos." She introduced herself as they walked over and sat down, "
Oh girl, I love your hair!" one of the girls said as Cecelia grinned,
"Thank you. I love yours, too!"
"She just moved here not too long ago."
"You picked a good tour guide."Rudy said, "He's always here like he lives here," she chuckled,
"Is that so."
"Girl, you should see E cut up a rug. He's like a white guy with a black soul." Shirley commented as Elvis blushed, "And when He sings..."
"Ladies, I'm right here." he blushed, getting embarrassed a bit.
"I'll keep that in mind." she chuckled. The waitress then came by as she looked at saw Elvis,
"Let me guess, cheeseburger, a milkshake, fries salted." she laughed, "And for you, dear?"
"Cheeseburger and a soda, please."
"No fries?" Elvis asked,
"I'll just eat yours."
"Aw, a date?"
Elvis and Cecelia quickly shook their heads,
"We're just friends..." Cecelia said,
"For now, " the three girls had said as they went to dance with their boyfriends. Cecelia watched them as she then looked at Elvis, who was tapping his foot,
"You wanna dance?" offering her hand out to him,
"Sure." Elvis took her hand as they went up to the jukebox. Let's have a Party was playing, and that's what Cecelia intended to do. The two were dancing together and laughing as it had been the most fun the two had been having. Pulling her close and spinning her around, he was impressed with her footwork. There had been a few girls he'd danced with, but this one, for once, could keep up. He then began doing his own thing as Cecelia watched his hips. She began to be mesmerized until she joined him. Swaying her hips as Cecelia danced around him, another guy took her by the hand as they began to do the Lindy Hop, flipping her over his shoulder as Cecelia laughed. He was impressed with her courage and how much of a fun time she was.
"HEY E CATCH!" Bernard shouted as he spun Cecelia into Elvis's arms.
Elvis caught Cecelia as he dipped her, heart racing as she looked up at him, "Nice catch..." She said as Elvis blushed, "Nice, dancin." he then walked them both to their table. Sitting down, Cecelia and Elvis ate and talked as she took some of his fries, and he took some of her pickles from her burger,
"So, has today been fun so far," Elvis asked as Cecelia sighed.
"I don't know, I mean..."
"Yes..."
"Well..."
"Cece..."
"I've been havin a blast!" she smiled.
"Great, 'cause now I wanna show you the true Beale Street." he smiled, clutching his heart at her reaction.
"Is this not the real..." walking outside. Cecelia saw the city lights. They felt more comforting than New York and brighter than Paris. They felt like home. Elvis could see the sparkle in her eyes as she was mesmerized by the scene, music from every street, people dancing, cars going by,
 "May I?"
"You may." Elvis took Cecelia's hand and walked with her across the street. Walking by other shops and bands. Cecelia could feel that this was where music truly lived. A group of musicians were playing as Elvis began to mumble under his breath and sing the words. Cecelia had tried to listen.
"You know... You heard me sing..." Cecelia smirked,
"Yeah, I did..."
"it's your turn..."
"Cece..."
"Please, Pres..."
"Cil..."
"Elvis... Elvis...Elvis." She cheered as he took a deep breath and sang along to the song. When he began to sing, it was like time stood still to try to catch up to him. He was lost in the music, dancing and almost nearly performing the song. When he had stopped, Elvis had noticed Cecelia's mouth completely wide open in shock.
"ELVIS ARON PRESLEY!!! WHY ARE YOU NOT ON THE RADIO!" Cecelia playfully shook him about. As he laughed, "Or on TV, people should have posters of you, they should have billions of your records!!" she grinned,
"I could say the same about you," he smiled as Cecelia giggled. He was right, but she was right, too.
"Yeah, but this is about you!"
"Well, Cil, I got terrible stage fright." He laughed, "I can't be no singer or actor with stage fright." he sighed,
"Yeah, you can. Many get nervous, too."Cecelia said as she got closer to him,
"I-I-I-I da-don't pronounce my W's right an..."
"So, you got the look. I mean, behind the lanky look and the choppy colored hair... There's a star." Cecelia backed away,
"Cil..."
"Imagine it, everyone screamin Elvis Presley!" she twirled, stumbling a bit as he caught her,
"Yeah... no," He laughed. Maybe if I played football or somethin, they should be cheerin your name." he smirked, lifting her up again on his shoulders, "Cecelia Valmos, the great guitar player, the amazing singer." he looked up at her as she looked down at him both their eyes meeting, it was electric.
"Elvis Presley, the great dancer! and mover of hips and remover of panties!" she joked as Elvis turned red,
"That don't sound half bad." he laughed with her, the two heading back to his car,
"Elvis... Are you free tomorrow?"
"I got church an work, but after that..."
"Wanna hang out again tomorrow?" Cecelia asked,
"Sure, we could go to a park or the library, maybe we could study at my place?"
"We could do that, I could make brownies as a snack,"
"It's a done deal then Cece," he smiled driving her to her car,
"See you tomorrow El."
"Same time?"
"Same time!"
Walking to her house, she was on cloud nine. She was in love, and her mother knew it. For every mother did, they all could remember that rush of joy the first time they fell head over heels in love,
"How was it."
"We went comic book shopping. And to a music store, and dancing." She twirled around giggling,
"Oh, mama, it was great." Elvis smiled as his mother watched the blush on his face get deeper.
"Are you gonna see her again?"
"When are you going to see him again?"
"Tomorrow, after church," She blushed,
