The Trevelyan girl looked up to the Inquisitor and nodded to her in thanks as she took the hot cup of tea. It was warm in her cold hands. It had been some time since she had anything since climbing the mountain peaks to get here to Skyhold.

"Might kind of you, lady...I appreciate you sparing your extra resources on those like me." She was an apostate now. Her circle was gone, the templars having tried to murder her and having done so her fiance. It was hard. The road was long and her horse was tired. All her resources had gone to make sure her steed made it here.

She had been battered on her way here. Her bruises and wounds mainly patched up by that of the healers in the triage area, and a larger wound healed by a stranger in the wilds. It was chaos out in the world...the girl had only ever known her home and the circle. So...she was very much so out of her element here.

The Muses: Eloise Trevelyan

Though initially quite devastated when her proud family all but disowned her after she displayed a 'disgusting and shameful' penchant for magical skill at a usually late age, Eloise was not terribly broken up about relinquishing her role as the next Lady of house Trevelyan. She flourished, doing well for herself in the Circle, until tensions from the Rebellion came to a head when one of her fellows murdered First Enchanter Lydia, sparking the Templars to call for the right of Annulment. Eloise barely escaping with her life and carrying within her a fiercely guarded secret.

Marina Amell: While incredibly grateful for everything the Circle taught her, Marina would be the first to say the more practical application of her magic in her time with the Wardens lead to a great deal more growth and knowledge than she might have had otherwise. She slogged through necessary endless books and essays, but always preferred the more hands-on lessons. Though she deeply respects and loves Irving, she finds a kind of kindred spirit with Wynne in their wanderlust and restlessness. She is a quick learning, but has always learned best by doing.

Cadence Tabris: Growing up in the Denerim Alienage, Cadence was never really afforded an opportunity for any sort of formal or extensive education. They are able to read and write with a common vocabulary, and well versed in the history of the elves of their Alienage. The geography of Fereldan, or indeed Thedas at large, is largely foreign to them. They are… selective about what they choose to pay attention to and retain as some opportunities to expand their knowledge present themselves, recognizing that some information might be used to their advantage, but largely disinterested in the history of humans and their pettiness and barbarism. Their diplomacy is perhaps a little less polished as a result, though this might equally be attributed to the impatience simmering just beneath the surface. Regardless, the Warden Commander seems to get the job done.

Eloise Trevelan: While too empathetic a soul to derive any pleasure from playing The Game, Eloise might actually be quite good at it if she cared to play, having extensive knowledge of Thedas and it’s nobility’s history. Eloise often has a near-perfect recall with the things she’s read, though, only for subjects which she herself finds interesting. She speaks a passable/conversational amount of three secondary languages and was a credit to the Ostwick Circle before it’s downfall. After taking up the mantle of “Herald of Andraste”, however, Eloise often finds herself frustrated with the disparity between her book and practical knowledge, both the Circle and prior noble upbringing leaving her ill-prepared for some of the day to day realities and necessary skills of her new position (camping, cooking, etc).

Garrett Hawke: Though his jovial, mischevious nature is often mistaken as an incapacity to ever be serious, Garrett was actually very much aware of his good fortune as well as the strain educating and hiding he and Bethany’s gifts put on the rest of his family. He may not always have enjoyed his lessons, but he always applied himself and remembered everything Malcolm taught or said to him, even if some of the lessons felt more tedious than others.

Sonja Hawke: Sonja is largely indifferent towards the homeschooling her mother provided her with. Leandra did her best, of course, but was never much of a scholar herself, and could never seem to decide whether or not to instruct her daughter in the ways and etiquette of the noble life she left behind when she eloped, or to accept their new lot in life. She finds a good deal of joy in music and learning new songs, however.

Orana: Never formally educated, Orana often uses the assumptions others might make of her past to her advantage. While it is only recently she’s learned how to read, the elf has an ear for languages that coupled with her innate ability as a former servant and slave helps her uncover all manner of information she can sell or use to her advantage. She loves stories and poetry but is still better versed and generally more likely to consume them orally than sit down with a book, and prefers the stories about individuals- people she can put a face to- over general history.

Eshalineva Lavellan: While a force to be reckoned with in a fight, Neva is reluctant to give credit to anyone, but herself, carrying a deep-seated bitterness and hurt after being passed over as the clan’s First. She would argue any skills she’s developed since have been out of spite, and while well-versed in a good deal of Dalish history, has yet to find much practical application for it. She knows the King’s Tongue, but will often defer to Elvhen when and wherever possible simply to annoy or separate herself from those around her. Prickly with just about everyone, her education doesn’t have much impact one way or the other on her ability or decisions as the leader of the Inquisition.

June Lavellan: Displaying from an early age a tendency to be overwhelmed by too much bustle, people, or noise, June loves to learn and would choose a library or new book over most people. Actively seeking out new knowledge wherever he can and largely self-taught, June has mastered speaking, reading, and writing in several languages. Truth be told, June would be far more comfortable perhaps even better suited had fate seen fit to put him in an advisory sort of role within the Inquisition. He is most at ease left to his own devices, and when not with a book can be found in the stables tending to his steeds, or entertaining the children in the garden with stories. That said, his knowledge of history, politics, and languages are extensive enough to generally make up for weaker social skills. He gets on very well (in small doses at a time) with similarly educated or academic minds like Solas, Dorian, Josephine, Leliana, or Vivienne.

Can't quite get the same kind of gracefulness that he had in Inquisition. Like, he truly looked so king like? It's hard to copy in the new engine. Cassian just looked every part the noble leader of the inquisiton you know? Cassian 'Sprout' Trevelyan, Ostwick born Noble who was sent to the Circle at around seven after he froze his brother's hand solid and left him disabled for life. His sister, Anaïs was so outraged by this she left to join the Templars so she could keep him safe. Cas is the baby of the family, and he was very close to their mother. But magic sickness took her mind long before her body failed her. It ate her from the inside out. The same sickness may take him, but for now it's found an outlet in slowly stripping color from his body? Hard to explain, but when he manifested his magic, his hair was a dark dark burgundy like his sister. The first day his magic lashed out, it left behind the whisper of white hairs behind. It only grew from there. His magic manifests in frost and storm, during In Your Heart Shall Burn - part of the power behind the blizzard was his own incredible emotional turmoil. He leaves behind a dusting of ice everywhere he goes, learning to let his magic suffuse itself outward to keep from having it eat him alive. There's a large gap between him and his brother Maxwell, the ten years making all the difference in how they got along at seven and seventeen ha. His next oldest brother is Heron - a quiet soft-spoken man with a knack for the family orchards and keeping the lands steady. Seeing as the age gap between Heron and Maxwell is only three years, you'd think they'd get along but no. Anaïs is older than Cassian by a year. They were practically twins are small children, attached at the hip they were. Their mother, Eloise Trevelyan, often said that where Cassian was the ever changing and deep sea, then Anaïs was his steadfast fleet of ships that weathered each storm. Cassian was a quiet, sensitive boy, and his big sister was loud for the both of them. Within a week of their mother's lethal diagnosis, the stress of inheriting the Trevelyan nobility and losing his mother left Maxwell terse with everyone - but little Cassian couldn't accept his mother was dying. They got into it at dinner, and in his distraught state Cassian froze Maxwell's hand to the table, froze it pure solid. Maxwell was angry then, but moreso he was just damn sad. His mother was dying, and a week after learning so - they took his baby brother away kicking and screaming. It took a long time before they could reconcile properly. Maxwell and Heron were close for some time, but when Maxwell lost his chance at the Chevalier title - his hand too damaged to lift a pen, let alone his sword, he was angry. Heron was given the title of Lord Trevelyan, acting as the head of the noble name. their father didn't act in this way because Noah married into the Trevelyan's, not the other way around. The entire family parts ways for a long time, before the Inquisition brings them back together. Anaïs leading a troupe of Beaureguard Templars who escape the Red Templars plot - bringing them right to Cassian's door after Twenty-Five years separated.

Due to the threat throughout Thedas, Cassian had his family brought to Skyhold. His mother included. Twenty-five years after her diagnosis, her first fall and bout of sickness, Eloise was nothing like the charming and noble Senior Enchanter she'd been. One day she awoke, and her magic had simply...ceased. It sent waves through the circle, a fear many did not indulge unless the Tranquil were involved. But no, she was of full sound mind when her magic completely vanished from her grasp. Not to say it left her though, which would become her downfall. Eloise could no longer cast or exude magic. It gathered and gathered and the power grew heavier in her body until it began to tear away at her physical form. Because she couldn't cast, but she still had magic, she was allowed to return to the Trevelyan estate, but she had to have a constant Templar Guard. One of the perks of high nobility. Lady Seawright, pardon - Templar Knight, Lady Millicent Eglantine Seawright  was assigned to the Trevelyan family as a permanent guard. She was a stalwart friend to the family for many years, and when Anais was young she even trained the girl how to handle a sword. Lady Seawright joined the Trevelyan's in Skyhold, and for the first time in twenty years she got to meet Anais again. Who still held that childish crush on the older woman, something that would bloom despite the crushing weight of Corypheus and Eloise's decline... Eloise who came to Skyhold as a husk. It was painful for all to see. Cassian did not handle it well, but thankfully he had a good support system - between Cassandra keeping him strong, and Vivienne being his quiet confidant, he manage to make the decision between letting his mother slip away, or making her tranquil. The fight that decision caused was cataclysmic. But in the end, Eloise Trevelyan was surrounded by loved ones when she passed in the night. Cassian is grateful that she held one long enough to meet Cassandra, the woman that he'd fallen madly, stupidly, beautifully in love with. Cassandra sat vigil with him during his Mother's passing, quietly praying for the woman. (Her passing would not be gentle, but they found ways to ease the pain.) The running joke after the fall of Corypheus happens to be the 'Cass' title. Cassian, Cassandra, Cassiopeia, Cassidy. A horrible naming convention but one they stuck to for their two daughters.

Eloise/Sugar is in both my FNV and VTM universes now, but in both of them her sword was a decorative family heirloom before she took it down and struck out on her own. She's probably the first one who's ever actually used it.

bio: the trevelyans, despite originating from antiva, are one of the most prominent noble families of ostwick. because of their strong ties to the chantry, the family does not hesitate to send their children to the circle when they discover the gift of magic. luca felt betrayed when he was sent away at just 12 years old and left on bad terms with his mother, who he was extremely close with. growing up with his father's strong disdain for magic and fearmongering from the templars caused luca to develop a fear of his own magical abilities. luca's mother passes away from illness before luca has a chance to reconcile, intensifying the guilt, fear, and nightmares he already suffered with. before he was even considered to do his harrowing, he begs the templars to make him tranquil so he won't be a threat to anybody, and won't have to further deal with his pain. when kirkwall's circle rebelled, ostwick quickly followed suit, and luca was forced to join the rebels for his own survival. he eventually joins the senior enchanters at the divine conclave as an unbiased voice. when the anchor is accidentally fused with luca's hand, his severed connection with the fade was restored, curing him of his tranquility. after being tranquil for a decade, luca must relearn how to live, how to feel, and how to be a leader, as he's thrust into reverence as the only hope to save thedas.

bio: growing up, lilith had always had an immense and dangerous fascination with magic, and desperately wanted to learn it for herself. but there is not much a lowly street urchin can do when your main focus is surviving the day in a dirty, corrupt city. despite the hardships, lilith will always try to steal magical trinkets and tomes to try to teach herself magic. perhaps if she was strong enough, she would be able to make enough money for her and her mother to have a real home. however, lilith was caught stealing from a powerful noble, and - in a desperate attempt to save her daughter - lilith's mother takes the blame, resulting in her being cut down before lilith's very eyes. months pass and lilith is suddenly approached by a ghostly voice, claiming to be the spirit of her deceased mother. her mother's spirit says that she returned to watch over her daughter, and will be willing to teach her magic if lilith does what she is told. lilith accepts immediately, and is ecstatic that she is getting to two things she wants the most - her mother, and magic. unbeknownst to lilith, however, this apparition is not her mother. it is instead a fiend, taking advantage of a grieving orphan with a strong desire for magic, in order to manipulate her into doing its bidding. the fiend's goal is to feed lilith so much power that she eventually goes berserk, wreaking as much havoc as possible before she inevitably loses herself to the very magic she longed for.

“Say, Princess,” Varric calls as Eloise is making her way back into the hall and passed his usual haunt. It had rankled her at first, the nickname. Afterall she never asked to be born into the Trevelyan family, and it’s been a long time since she saw any benefit from it. The money, the power, the influence, had never appealed to her. To Eloise, it had always felt more like a pair of fancy shoes, pretty, but uncomfortable, blistering. Varric, though, is a good enough friend now to know as much, so the nickname is only in good fun. He���d offered to try and come up with another, made a few playful and absolutely terrible suggestions, but since she couldn’t come up with anything better herself, Princess persisted.

“Yes, Varric?”

“I’ve been doing some thinking,” the dwarf hedges cautiously, eyes darting briefly around the hall to check who else is present, what other ears might be listening. “Look, don’t take this the wrong way, I know you’re a mage yourself, and Solas is- well, he’s damn useful to have around, but I was thinking, maybe, it wouldn’t hurt to bring on a consultant?”

“A consultant,” Eloise repeats curiously.

“Yeah,” Varric nods. “As I said, I know you’re a mage and we’ve got a few others besides. And I’m sure there’s no shortage of people that want to offer the Inquisitor advice about- Andraste’s Tits, well, everything, but- Do any of them know about... your situation?”

“No,” Eloise shakes her head, a brief glance towards Vivienne’s balcony. The Knight-Enchanter has been a great ally in their fight to seal the Breach, but hardly a confidant. Given the way she’s reacted to Cole, Eloise hasn’t the first idea how or when she might go about telling her that she herself is an abomination in a way that might go over well, just as well that Leliana and Josephine had advised to keep it quiet for as long as they possibly can. “I haven’t told them yet.”

“Well,” the dwarf continues. “You know I’m happy to listen, but I just thought, well, maybe you could use someone to talk to that might understand it all a bit better, somebody that wouldn’t judge you for it.”

“And you know somebody like that?”

“I do,” Varric nods, smiling softly. “So, what do you think?”

“I think I can think of at least two other people who would benefit from Merrill joining us here as well,” Eloise smiles. “That is who you had in mind, isn’t it?”

“I’m not trying to pull a fast one on you,” Varric assures her immediately, his argument with Cassandra and the Seeker’s accusations about where his loyalties might lie, clearly still fresh in his mind. “I really do think Daisy could help, would make a good ear at least.”

“Relax, Varric,” Eloise soothes. “Send her an invitation. We’d love to have her.”

Eloise makes her way down the steps to the courtyard below as the gates open to admit the Inquisition’s newest Arcane Advisor, but the Champion of Kirkwall is quicker, skipping the stairs entirely in favor of jumping from the nearby balcony and tucking neatly into a roll at the last second. The rogue charges the party, the sea parting for her, and has the smaller elf hoisted up into her arms in what looks like a bruisingly tight and grateful hug, and Eloise’s heart stutters as her eyes suddenly flick up to the familiar tower just above the gates.

She’s entertained fantasies of being greeted with that kind of enthusiasm, that sort of enthusiasm and passion. Such stories of chivalry, of knights and romance, had always appealed, even more so now she seems thrust in the middle of one, harrowing as it sometimes is. But she shouldn’t have. Foolhardy enough, the idea of a mage, and former Templar, the Inquisitor and the Commander of the Inquisition’s forces. But Eloise is more than a simple mage. Or less, depending on who you asked.

She’d dared to hope somehow if she could only find the right words, the right way to tell him, maybe Cullen would be different. But it’s been almost two days since he found out, since the last time they spoke to each other. And in that time, those moments and intimacies they previously shared with each other have become more precious and more painful to recall. She’d been reckless, to let him in, to let herself go without him knowing the whole truth. It’s easy to see it in hindsight. But she’d never meant to deceive him, hadn’t wished to keep him in the dark forever. And he’d won her heart some time before they shared their first kiss. The idea there won’t be any more, that there’ll never be a greeting like this waiting for her on her return to the stronghold makes her chest ache.

Still, a friend, Eloise smiles, collecting herself once more to go and greet their guest now Hawke seems to have released her. Another friend to weather through all of this with sounds nice.
