I think its fucked up that so many people think Ellie should have died for nothing. And I think that comes back onto how girls are viewed as consumables. Is she the mini mother at ages 6-18 to help her own mother bc her dad won't parent? Is she getting her MRS degree because otherwise why would she be in college? Is she gonna give me (the husband) children I won't care for? Is she gonna give me (her parents) a grand child? Is she gonna be my (David's) childbride? Is she, a traumatized 14 year old, gonna give me (Marlene, "Dr." Anderson) her organs because I claim I can make a cure out of them?

Like I get that it's just a fictional story and so many others have made better posts on why Joel was more right to save Ellie than wrong for murder, but it's been bothering me every time I see a rebuttal of the whole "Ellie actually should have died" topic. Like the arguments that are for Ellie living are coming from a place that is seeing many others say Ellie should have died, right? Why do you actually think she should have died? Even if her brain could have saved people medically, why do you the audience think a 14 year old girl should die? Because socially, societally, the Last Of Us world is already too broken for a vaccine to fix. You think the cannibalism and religious cult is gonna just stop? If Kansas City was still alive you think people like Kathleen are gonna stop being dictators or whatever? No you just saw Jesus Complex and thought "yeah! Now die to save us!"

Like this has "Dead Wife Trope" or death of lover tropes slapped all over it too even tho this is a father/daughter duo situation because none of you who wanted Ellie to die can see the worth of a girl, fictional or real, unless she's dying for the man in her, their, his story.
