At dawn these still waters were filled with clamoring gulls. Now, in morning’s languid light, just the harsh contralto of a journeying crow, the muted bass and treble of waves from a passing boat’s wake. Tall pines
on the opposite shore cast long, green reflections onto the motionless river, making (you think) a long, green road boasting many unmarked entrances and exits, many signs in strange languages you almost remember, many vaguely familiar landmarks and fleeting faces almost recognizable as beloved.
Some say go out into the desert to find your god. Some say go up into the mountains. No such voices here, on the long, green road of unforgetting, just the muted bass and treble of your own footsteps, just that other that other that other almost song.
The Road of Unforgetting by Elizabeth Ayres

XOXO Droplets voice actor headcanons
Okay, hear me out, I know the game has voice actors but I was thinking to myself “damn, if this thing had an anime and they used major well known VA’s, I wonder who would voice who” so I’m sharing it with y’all
Bae Pyoun
Come on, this one was easy to guess, Michael J. Tatum, you try and tell me the VA for Kyoya Otori from OHSHC, Shu Tsukiyama from Tokyo Ghoul and Rei Ryugazaki from Free! would not be an amazing VA for our sassy, snide antichrist
Pran Taylor
Okay, hear me out on this one, David Walk, his soft but also deep voice for Reiji Sakamaki from Diabolik Lovers, Adam from Sk8 the infinity and Asuma Mutsumi from Kiss Him, Not Me could work, not only is his voice very cold at times but he also shows with Mutsumi’s voice that he can show a softer side
Shiloh Fields
I’ll be honest, I was kind of stumped on this one, but then I was tossing up between Greg Ayres or Todd Haberkorn (cause it had to be one of the Ouran twins VA’s) I genuinely don’t know why I think this, honestly either of the two I named would be great depending on which side of Shiloh you want to exaggerate on more, but I feel like Todd would be a great balance of both sides of Shiloh, VA of Razor from Genshin Impact, Haru’s Nanase from Free! and Aru Akise from The Future Diary, idk how to even explain this one
Everett Gray
My instant thought is Micah Solusod, the voice for Yuu Hyakuya from Seraph of the end, Mizuki from Kasisama Kiss, Shun Kaidou from Saiki K, Izuru Kamakura from Danganronpa 2 and legit so many more characters I love (literally I could name off like five more characters off the top of my head) but he shows that he can give off the “I’m too cool for this and too cool for you” vibe while also being able to have an extremely funny side
Nate Lawson
First off, damn, I had too think long and hard again about this one, and I may be wrong here but I feel like Jerry Jewell could do a good job, VA for Kyo Sohma from Fruits Basket, Moblit Berner from AOT and Yuma Isogai from Assassination Classroom, again that cool guy vibes but with a touch of anger at times too
Jeremy King
Another hear me out moment, Bryce Papenbrook, and I’m not talking his regular voice like for Adrian Agreste from Miraculous Ladybug and Makoto Naegi from Danganronpa, but more his voice for Staz Charlie Blood, the deep depressive voice, idk, it was hard to find someone for him, mainly because I love his original VA so much (not that I don’t love the rest) but Calvin has such a unique and amazing voice
JB
I struggled to pick for this one because most of my favourite female VA’s voice more higher toned characters and for JB I knew I needed someone with a bit more sass to her voice, I ended up deciding on Elizabeth Maxwell, also the VA for Ymir Fritz from AOT, Midnight from BNHA and Arisa Uotani from Fruits basket
Idk, I’d like to hear other’s opinions, ik I’m probably biased and my opinions unpopular and honestly this was difficult to do, I mainly started it because Bae Pyoun and Kyoya Otori give me such similar vibes

Alex Ferguson
Awal karier
Alexander Chapman Ferguson lahir dari pasangan Alexander Beaton Ferguson, seorang buruh pekerja galangan kapal dengan Elizabeth Hardie. Ia menghabiskan masa kecilnya di daerah Govan,Skotlandia bersama adiknya Martin Ferguson.
Karier klub

WEYWARD by Emilia Hart
RELEASE DATE: March 7, 2023
Three generations of women struggle against the bounds of patriarchy in this debut novel.Over the course of centuries, the Weyward women of Crows Beck in Cumbria, England, have shared a common gift: the ability to connect deeply with and seemingly communicate with nature, particularly animals. But they are also all victimized and controlled by men in a variety of ways. In 1619, healer Altha is put on trial for witchcraft after having been seen near a field where a farmer is trampled by his cows and because her own mother was suspected of being a witch due to her involvement in treating people in the village. Hundreds of years later, in the early 1940s, Violet Ayres chafes against the heavy-handed scrutiny and control of her father and struggles to learn more about her mother, Elizabeth Weyward, who died under mysterious circumstances when Violet was young. In the present day, Kate Ayres has fled her abusive live-in boyfriend before he can discover that she’s pregnant, taking refuge in her great-aunt Violet’s cottage as she attempts to rebuild her life and protect herself and her baby. Although the women's connection to nature at times feels like an unneeded dose of the supernatural in this already gripping novel, the ways in which they are subjected to the whims and cruelties of male dominance are chilling and realistic. Readers probably won't be especially surprised by some of the twists of the story, but this is nonetheless an engaging novel that captures the ways patriarchy has sought to limit women for all of history and the ways women have found to carve out freedom for themselves.
Thoughtful and at times harrowing, this novel is a successful blend of historical fiction and modern feminism.

“Sweet Echo,” a musical setting by Henry Lawes (1596-1662) of part of A Mask Presented at Ludlow Castle (Comus), 1634, by John Milton (born 9 December, 1608; died 8 November, 1674); performed here by Theatre of the Ayre, featuring Elizabeth Kenny, lute
Sweet Echo, sweetest Nymph that liv'st unseen
Within thy airy shell
By slow Meander's margent green,
And in the violet imbroider'd vale
Where the love-lorn Nightingale
Nightly to thee her sad Song mourneth well.
Canst thou not tell me of a gentle Pair
That likest thy Narcissus are?
O if thou have
Hid them in som flowry Cave,
Tell me but where
Sweet Queen of Parly, Daughter of the Sphear!
So maist thou be translated to the skies,
And give resounding grace to all Heav'ns Harmonies!
To Mr. H. Lawes, on his Aires (Sonnet 13)
Harry whose tuneful and well measur'd Song First taught our English Musick how to span Words with just note and accent, not to scan With Midas Ears, committing short and long;
Thy worth and skill exempts thee from the throng, With praise enough for Envy to look wan; To after age thou shalt be writ the man, That with smooth aire couldst humor best our tongu
Thou honour'st Verse, and Verse must lend her wing To honour thee, the Priest of Phœbus Quire That tun'st their happiest lines in Hymn, or Story.
Dante shall give Fame leave to set thee higher Then his Casella, whom he woo'd to sing Met in the milder shades of Purgatory.
-- from Poems, 1673

Mike Denness was born 1st December 1940, Bellshill, North Lanarkshire.
Denness is the only Scottish born person to have captained the full England cricket team, I would like to point out the two famous cricketers who captained England are sometimes classified as Scots, Douglas Jardine and Tony Greig both had Scottish parents, but Jardine was born in Mumbai and Greig in South Africa.
He was born in Bellshill, but the family moved to Ayr when he was young. With the Denness home situated adjacent to Ayr Cricket Club’s Cambusdoon ground, the young Mike gravitated towards that game.
He was not solely a cricketer. At Ayr Academy, he was a member of the legendary unbeaten rugby XV which included two other future national captains: Ian Ure, who captained the Scotland team in a non-cap international against Israel during the 1967 world tour, and Ian “Mighty Mouse” McLauchlan, who captained Scotland on a record number of occasions.
While he was a good enough rugby player to go straight into the Ayr RFC 1st XV on leaving school, he was a far better cricketer, winning his first Scotland cricket cap when still at Ayr Academy. His promise attracted the attention of Kent, where he made his debut in 1962, recommended to the county by another Scot to have played for them, Jimmy Allen, then a team mate at Ayr. He played more than 700 first-class matches and List A matches over his 22-year first-class career. He was a right-handed bat, either an opener or going in first wicket down.
Few contemporary batsmen were more stylish than Mike Denness at his peak, in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Tallish and slim, well-balanced, immaculately dressed on and off the field, possessed of a fine array of strokes and an excellent cover fieldsman to boot, Denness looked a model cricketer in every way. It was his misfortune that when those qualities won him the England captaincy, after Ray Illingworth's dismissal, he lacked the support of one of the players on whom he was most dependent.
Geoff Boycott, who made no secret of how acutely he coveted the captaincy himself, played only the first six of Denness's 19 Tests as captain, which fatally holed England's prospects against Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thomson in Australia in 1974-75.
Deposed when Australia won the first Test of 1975 at Edgbaston, Denness took his medicine with typical graciousness. He later became an ICC match referee but, at Port Elizabeth in 2001-02, his decision to sanction six Indian players, including Sachin Tendulkar, caused such a furore that the Indian and South African boards barred Denness from officiating in the next match, at Centurion. The ICC responded by withdrawing Test status from the game.
Mike Denness died in April 2013 after a battle with cancer during his final days as president of Kent

I recently snagged my partner's thesis and was reading his acknowledgments. They were so great, they were short, pithy, funny. They were so him. Today I pulled down my dissertation and read mine. It reminded me of myself too -- and all the wonderful people, and pups and more, who have supported me along the way. So I thought I would post it here:
I was recently asked to come up advice I would give to other graduate students in ecology. I said ‘find good collaborators and appreciate them.’ The crux of this dissertation is the quality and depth of collaboration and mentoring that has gone into it and I can only write some token of my extreme thanks here.
My advisors, Doug Bolger and Kathy Cottingham have been my most constant and admirable supporters at Dartmouth. They have endured the pain of my fumbling early years here, read the countless grants I wrote to get enough funding for my research, and remained affable and upbeat through to reading manuscripts over and over. I thank Doug especially for sharing his study system in San Diego with me and still have many vivid memories of the first day (post-cross country flight) in the field with him. He has provided me with perspective, humor and a firm grounding in conservation science. To Kathy I extend special thanks for her constant moral, logistical, statistical and realistic good-humored advice and support. She has listened to everything from my most complex stats questions to the most basic etiquette question and somehow always been happy to help. I realized only recently how much I will miss meeting up with Kathy and being able to drop into Doug’s office to chat.
My committee members Matt Ayres, Ross Virginia and John Moore have also been invaluable. Matt was especially helpful in his constant quest for hypotheses and in reading my second chapter more than anyone but me. Ross has been a constant fount of wisdom on academia and formed the base of my ability to understand soil science.
Finally, I could not have imagined a better outside committee member than John Moore. I will never forget him coming up to me during qualifying exams to correct my board work and whispering ‘you’re doing fine.’ He has been fantastic in teaching me food web modeling, soil food webs and has offered me such a depth of advice and knowledge, always with a smile and warmth.
My honorary San Diego-based committee members, David Holway and David Lipson, made the research presented here possible. They both opened up their labs to me when I was only a second-year student. Their constant moral, local logistical support and their freely-offered scientific expertise have been instrumental in all the work presented here. In particular my special thanks for their collaboration on chapter 3 (David Holway) and 4 (David Lipson, with a tour de force to make what I thought would be a ‘Note’ in to a fantastic work and who pushed the revisions through). Additionally, in San Diego, John Martin of the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge has provided habitat, but also support and important information on local management projects and needs.
In addition I cannot express my full thanks to so many other advisors, friends, collaborators and mentors. To Mary Poulson, Mark McPeek, Becky Irwin, Becky Ball and Susan Milord. To Craig Layne for his friendship, miraculously unflagging support; he has been an amazing source of ideas, advice and chocolate. To Joe Craine and Kendra McLauchlan for their friendship, advice, expertise, and dinners. To Jeb Barrett for answering and re-explaining his answers to all my most basic soil science questions, and for beer hour. To Dan Gruner, Claire de Mazancourt, Elizabeth Borer and the rest of the NCEAS Trophic Structure working group, for showing me just how fantastically fun and fast-paced collaborative science can be. To Eric Seabloom for incredible patience and long-distance support while I learned R. To John Gilbert, who seems to always enjoy science and life, and is an inspiration to me. To Erin Wilson and Dana Morin for friendship and collaboration in San Diego. To Pauline Roberts for telling me to keep a daily field log. To Megan Donahue for showing me Balboa Park and explaining how to non-dimensionalize and drop the hat. To my labmate, Tom Morrison, for critical moments of coffee and associated conversation. To David Mbora for wine, conversation and perspective. To Sarah Neeley for friendship, time in Manhattan and teaching me structural equation modeling. To my dear friend, Sharon Martinson, it is impossible for me to express all she has done for me as a friend and scientist. To my sister and best friend, Joy, who knows the answers to all my questions and has always been there for me.
In the lab I have received extensive help, especially from Paul Zietz and many undergraduates. Among these Mayda Nathan and Britt Ousterhout deserve the greatest thanks and accolades. They are gifted researchers and have been critical to this research. Will Stork, Ha Linh Vu, Ankit Rastogi, Sam Haynor have also provided great help.
On the same occasion as this advice question I started this section with, I was asked who was my greatest inspiration, and I was able to quickly answer, ‘my mother.’ My Mum, Jeanne Dearden, has forever been the most remarkable person I know. She is thoughtful, too giving, well-read, funny and joyful and she makes my every day happier. I would not be an ecologist were it not for her love of nature, for her moving her entire family to the wilds of rural New Hampshire when I was six, for the wonderful friends and siblings she has given me—Joy and Jake Wolkovich, for the home and wonderful animals—most especially my Tilly—she brought into our lives, and for her constant and demanding wish that I be nothing more than happy. Far more important than the time I spent the last six years at Dartmouth is the time I have spent with my Mum and she has my greatest appreciation for all she has given me.

#notizie #news #breakingnews #cronaca #politica #eventi #sport #moda Read the full article

WhatsOn brings the book selection for the week. Immerse yourself in the books on the list to feed your inner bibliophile. Enjoy yourself this week by occupying yourself with the new books in your home. Weyward In his debut book author showed, three generations of women fight against the restrictions of patriarchy. The Weyward women of Crows Beck in Cumbria, England, have shared a special talent for connecting with nature and appearing to converse with animals for generations. However, they are all also victimized various forms of abuses and control by males. Altha, a healer, placed on trial for witchcraft in 1619 after being spotted nearby a field. Where a farmer crushed by his cows and because her mother was thought to be a witch because of her work treating residents of the village. In the early 1940s, hundreds of years later, Violet Ayres fights to uncover the truth about her mother. Elizabeth Weyward passed away mysteriously when Violet was a young girl, as well as her father's oppressive scrutiny and control. In present day, Kate Ayres has left her abusive live-in boyfriend before he learns that she is pregnant. She has taken shelter in her great-aunt Violet's cottage as she works to rebuild her life and protect her unborn child. The ways in which women are subjected to the whims and cruelties of male supremacy are chilling and realistic. Even though at times it feels like the women's link to nature adds an unnecessary dose of the supernatural to this already suspenseful book. Although some of the plot twists are unlikely to particularly startle readers. This is still a compelling book that captures the ways patriarchy has attempted to impose restrictions on women throughout history. As well as the ways in which women have discovered to create their own paths to freedom. This book, which is thoughtful as well as awful, is an effective fusion of historical fiction and contemporary feminism. Lenna travels with Vaudeline when she is invited to England to investigate a prominent murder as a role of a student. But as the women work together with the strong males of London's elite Séance Society to solve the mystery, they start to worry that they might actually be involved in the crime they are trying to solve.
