I’m a woman and have all the same criticisms as you do, it’s not misogynist. Your post broke something open inside of me. It’s everything thats been frustrating me with publishing for like a year. I had to read it aloud immediately to my husband in the car while getting progressively louder and he was like “Christ woman, I’m driving.” No one’s saying you shouldn’t enjoy trash content, I do all the time, but don’t think of yourself as Rory fucking Gilmore just because you READ. I honestly would love to throw more genre/lighter shit in my reading diet if it wasn’t all so fucking BAD. Taylor Jenkins Reid is BAD. Emma Straub is BAD. (Frankly most shit shortlisted for the major awards is also bad but that’s a rant for another day) I’m 7 months pregnant and I was considering reading an elin hildebrand book as an end of summer rest bc my future child is sucking all of my brain cells out of me but I thought “why waste my time?” and went for the ur-Beach Read instead: To the Lighthouse. Don’t back down, king.

Relationship With Family: Increasingly complicated by the day. Lara loves her siblings and her father unconditionally, but she’s having some issues with Andrew right now. There are times he hasn’t been honest with her--most notably about the attack on Amir’s hotel--and it’s not sitting well with her well. I think because she interprets it as a lack of trust, or assumes he thinks she isn’t ready to be brought into the fold. As much as she loves Yvonne and would defend her if anybody outside of their family dared to say anything bad about her, she doesn’t like her much, either. Her sister is her biggest competition and that doesn’t go unnoticed. Constance? Constance who. Bye. 

Happiest Memory: The cherished few she has with her mother. Even then, she’s not sure how much is genuine memory and how much is her imagination working with what her brothers have told her about Cerys. She tries not to think about it too much. 

Childhood Trauma: Losing her mom, without a doubt. Lara cruelly remembers her just enough to miss her. When she was younger it affected her less, but as she’s aged, particularly seeing her brothers who did get to spend more time with her bonding over their memories, it’s become a lot harder for her to deal with. Not only does she miss her, but to a degree, she feels like she missed out, too.

Build: Very slim. A little underweight, if anything.

Hair Color: Brown.

Usual Hair Style: I would say her hair looks like this (but slightly longer) 80% of the time. Typically has it up for formal events and stuff, though. 

Eye Color: Dark brown.

Glasses? Contacts?: Neither.

Style of Dress/Typical Outfit(s): Oh, I did a board for this. You can find it here. Lara’s style is looking better than everybody else.

Typical Style of Shoes: Always designer heels. I think at this point she probably feels naked without them. They’re kind of essential given her height.

Jewellery? Tattoos? Piercings?: Lara doesn’t have any sentimental jewellery that she wears on the regular, so it usually depends on how she’s accessorising her outfits.Tattoos? Just one on the back of her neck. It was her first, and likely her last, and no, she won’t tell you what it says or why she got it. Ears are pierced once.

Scars: Until her adult life, none. Now she has plenty to show for her mob ties. Multiple scars on her back from being shot in Porto Velho. Another on her right side from when she was shot at The Kingdom. Now her whole face is scarred to shit from Noa’s little makeover, though she’ll get surgery to correct that at soon as possible. Has a special contact lens to cover up most of the scarring in her blind eye. 

Unique Mannerisms/Physical Habits: None.

Athleticism: Average. Lara would rather not eat than work out. 

Health Problems/Illnesses: None.

INTELLECT:

Level of Education: Attended a private boarding school in Northern California before attending both Harvard Law and Harvard Business for a joint JD/MBA. Initially, she had intended to take the bar and stay in Massachusetts, but it didn’t pan out, and she never pursued law after leaving to return to Porto Velho.

Languages Spoken: English natively. Speaks French fairly fluently, and is confident with Spanish. Plans on learning Welsh for mom at some point.

Level of Self-Esteem: Pretty low. There’s a reason she projects so hard. 

Gifts/Talents: Painting. She’s damn good at it, too. It’s a hobby she keeps to herself, though, and her work is personal and not for sharing.

Makes Decisions Based Mostly On Emotions, or On Logic?: Logic. Sometimes to a fault, and so she can come across cold because of it.

I think she’s spent her whole life trying to be perfect and everything her father expected of her, that she gets incredibly hurt and defensive (though she’s good at hiding it) when someone implies she might not be quite up to the mark in any aspect of her life. It’s why she’s such a perfectionist.

How Do Others Actually Perceive Her?: Outside of the people she’s rubbed the wrong way, it’s important to remember that Lara’s reputation is pretty impeccable. Compared to Gideon and Damon, she’s had a breeze through the press, and for the most part, the people of Porto Velho and London absolutely adore her. Lara works damn had to project the image of a kind, compassionate, charitable and humble woman. The Rutherford sweetheart, always. 

SECRETS:

Life Goals: To make her father proud. To eventually be happy. To be better than Yvonne could ever hope to be. To send flowers to Aurélie St. Clair’s funeral.

Dreams: Lara definitely dreams of having her own family. The reason this is a dream instead of a life goal, however, is because she doesn’t believe her lifestyle is conducive to it. If she eventually leads the Rutherford family, she would never want her children to be dragged into things the same way she and her siblings have been.

Greatest Fears: Being alone. Not being good enough for the people she cares about.

Most Ashamed Of: Cheating on Amir with Ethan. Every fucking day. 

Secret Hobbies: Apart from the painting, nothing.

Crunchy or Smooth Peanut Butter?: Neither. Doesn’t eat peanuts.

Type of Car She Drives: Lara can drive, but chooses to have somebody to drive for her, so she has no need for her own car. Especially not in London.

Cusser?: Lara might cuss you in her head, but it takes some annoyance for her to actually swear in conversation.
