Weapon Amplifier: Increases fire rate and damage, and adds a small chance to not consume ammo.

Servo Booster: Increases movement speed and melee damage. (originally named "Stimulant Booster" à la Titanfall, but that made less sense as an electronic component-based powerup like the rest of the Burn Chips)

Smart Sights: Enhances certain weapons with target-seeking capabilities.

Regeneration: Recovers health over a short period of time.

Overshield: Temporary energy shield that protects you from normal damage.

"Invincibility" as a powerup in and of itself is probably getting left on the cutting room floor, sadly. I may still think about implementing invisibility, though that's always a hard one to consider given the impact it has on complicating enemy AI programming.

State Music — Residency at Columbia University / Computer Music Center

I spent five weeks in NYC between March and April 2023. It was a fantastic opportunity to work at the Computer Music Center in New York. The CMC is the first electronic music studio in the USA and Seth Cluett was kind enough to let me continue my research in the best conditions.

During this stay I was able to compose two new pieces for my forthcoming debut album State Music. The first was recorded in Studio 324 on two very early versions of Buchla and Serge analogue modular systems and two Bode frequency shifters. The process was similar to what I had done at EMS Stockholm, Radio Belgrade, KSYME Athens and Willem Twee Studio in Den Bosch. I tried to adapt to the machines installed in the studio, tested a lot of patches and recorded many hours of textures, accidents and other sonic events using a variety of techniques. The editing, collaging, layering and mixing was done later in my studio. I just followed one rule. Don't use the same recording twice. No loops, nothing like that.

The second composition was recorded in Jace Clayton's office. Why? Because the RCA Mark II, considered one of the first music synthesizers ever, still sits in that room. The synth has been out of order since 1976, when someone broke into the Prentis Hall building and vandalised the machine. But I decided to make use of it anyway. I opened one of the office windows to let sounds from the city into the room and recorded the tiny vibrations caused by street noise with a geophone magnetised to the synthesizer. In this way the synthesiser essentially acted as a loudspeaker. A cheap recorder was placed near the window. Two wide cardioid microphones were placed in the middle of the room for a high quality recording. Most of the time I sit in front of the synthesizer and do nothing but listen, and every now and then I flip a switch, turn a potentiometer or unplug a patch cable to activate the acoustic space of the office and make the metal frame of the machine vibrate.

It was an amazing moment. I've been working on the State Music project since 2018. I realised that being in that room with that silent machine felt like achieving something. My understanding of electronic music history is much deeper. The links between early synthesizers and the military industry are now much clearer to me. State music? Corporate music? I don't know and it doesn't matter.

When the Mark-I appeared in 1955, it was listed in the RCA Acoustics Laboratory inventory with a proud comparison: The synthesiser was 'second only to the Typhoon rocket simulator as the largest single assembly to come out of the David Sarnoff Research Center'. [Although the Mark-I was built to recreate a peaceful expression of human subjectivity rather than to obliterate a hostile and remote man-machine, its input/output components were as indifferent to the workings of the psyche as an anti-aircraft predictor.As Harry Olson recalled, to test their new machine, Olson and Belar followed Seashore's playbook of analysing past performances. The goal was not to expose the musical mind, but to simulate the sounds of acoustic instruments and human performers with the utmost precision.

The aviators of the 193rd Special Operations Wing in Middletown, PA, who operate the only flying military radio and TV broadcasting platform in the U.S. military, performed their last broadcast to viewers at the Community Days Air Show at Lancaster Airport, Lititz, PA, ending a 54-year chapter in the history of the unit.

The EC-130J Commando Solo mission helped keep the aircraft of this National Air Guard unit and its aviators at the tip of the spear for almost all major U.S. military operations since the Vietnam War. Before the bombs were dropped or troops were mobilized in the Global War on Terror after the attacks of September 11, 2001, this specially modified aircraft was already over the skies of Afghanistan transmitting to the enemies of the United States that the U.S. military was bringing the fight to them.

"Any event or global crisis to which our military responded in recent history, our 193rd aviators - and the Solo Command - were probably key components in this response," said Colonel Eric McKissick, deputy commander of the 193rd SOW. "As we prepare to open a new chapter in our history, we thank those who allowed us to be among the best wings of the National Air Guard."

The genesis of this aerial information operations platform can be traced until 1968, when the 193rd Tactical Electronic Warfare Group received its first aircraft, called EC-121 Coronet Solo. In the late 1970s, the aircraft were replaced by the EC-130E before finally being replaced by the current aircraft in 2003. Throughout its history, it has been fundamental to the success of coordinated operations to support military information, earning the wing the nickname "the most outstanding unit in the National Air Guard".

These deployments included: Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operations Odyssey Dawn/Unified Protector in Libya, Operation Inherent Resolve, Operation Resolute Support/Freedom's Sentinel, Operation Secure Tomorrow and Operation Unified Response in Haiti.

Although this unique mission has won the wing many prestigious praise, Lieutenant Colonel Michael Hackman, commander of the 193rd Special Operations Squadron, believes that the success and legacy of the mission lies in conquering the hearts and minds of opponents and providing vital information to allies, refugees and victims in times of crisis.

"This ability has been an essential tool in our nation's inventory, from the battlefields to assisting nations devastated by hurricanes and earthquakes," Hackman said. "During this period, thousands of volunteers from the Pennsylvania National Air Guard fulfilled their call to duty in this unique capacity, taking advantage of this ability against U.S. opponents and supporting allies, always complying with the principle of the 'Never seen, always heard' unit."

In addition to sporting an impressive operational record, the aircraft has another distinction for having completed more than 226,000 hours of accident-free flight.

"Having so many thousands of hours of flight without accidents is proof of the excellence of our maintainers, the operators and anyone who has touched that aircraft. Thank you for leaving this base and setting the example we are building," said Colonel Jaime Ramirez, commander of the 193rd Special Operations Maintenance Group.

McKissick believes that the success of the 193rd in the operation of the Commando Solo mission in recent decades led the Air Force Special Operations Command to select the wing to be the first and only ANG unit to operate the MC-130J Commando II. Command II carries out clandestine flights, or low visibility, single or with several aircraft, low-level infiltration, exfiltration and refueling of special operations forces, by air launch or air refueling missions for special operations helicopters and tiltrotor aircraft, invading politically sensitive or hostile territories.

"Today we honor the men and women, of the past and present, who served this unit and mission with unparalleled distinction," McKissick said. "The aviators who came before us created a lasting culture and a spirit of hard work, innovation and determination. We thank them for this and we will do our best to take it forward."

The final broadcast of the EC-130J was broadcast to the ground and played at the Community Days Air Show at Lancaster Airport. In the broadcast, the wing thanked the local community for the support in the last 54 years before broadcasting the song of Santo and Johnny, "Sleepwalk". The broadcast ended with the phrase "Solo command, music off".
