AI-Powered Solutions: How Migrants Are Overcoming Transportation Barriers in the U.S.
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/ai-powered-solutions-how-migrants-are-overcoming-transportation-barriers-in-the-u-s/
AI-Powered Solutions: How Migrants Are Overcoming Transportation Barriers in the U.S.
The credit scoring system in the U.S. is not only used in banking and large businesses, but also assesses the creditworthiness of every resident in every aspect of their everyday life. However, this system also discriminates against large groups of the population, particularly migrants.
For migrants and political refugees, it is extremely challenging to find official employment without the necessary legal papers and a credit check in the U.S. According to immigration laws, asylum seekers are not permitted to work officially for the first 180 days after filing their application. This bureaucratic barrier has led to an increase in low-wage labor in the food delivery sector.
How Many Migrants Face Challenges in the U.S.
As of 2022, the Migration Policy Institute reported 46.2 million legal migrants in the U.S. Another ~9M are undocumented. New York alone welcomes tens of thousands of new arrivals each year, with numbers rising significantly since Spring 2022, as over 118,000 migrants, primarily from Latin America and the Caribbean, crossed the U.S.–Mexico border, according to the Council of Foreign Relations.
Many migrants turn to the delivery sector because it offers more job opportunities under their circumstances. The popularity of this employment surged during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially during strict lockdowns.
Why Migrants Face Transportation Limitations
Working a delivery job in a large city is impossible without personal transportation. Migrants cannot take out loans for an e-bike or similar due to their lack of credit history and necessary documents, which also prevents them from registering a moped or a cars.
The cost of an electric bicycle starts at $2,000. While refurbished models are available for about half the price of new ones, this is still a significant amount for low-income migrants. Cheaper e-bikes from China tend to wear out quickly and require repairs that can exceed the initial purchase cost.
The Issue of Poor-Quality Electric Bicycles
Another problem with inexpensive transportation is the substandard lithium-ion batteries used in electric bicycles and scooters, which have become a leading cause of fires in New York. The lack of regulation and supporting infrastructure has turned this issue into a serious public safety concern.
In just the first two months of this year, New York experienced more fires caused by battery-powered vehicles than in all of 2019. This has led to stricter regulations on the electric bicycle market and their certification. Ensuring access to safe electric transportation has become a pressing social issue.
How AI Technology Addresses This Problem
Some electric bicycle rental services for couriers in the U.S. stand out. Most delivery workers are immigrants without credit histories, which limits their access to safe and affordable transportation. One potential solution is to develop a proprietary scoring system that makes expensive electric transport accessible to couriers.
Instead of relying on a standard Social Security number, proof of address, and other traditional identity verification methods, two-factor verification can be employed, based on:
Client information from external sources.
Predictions based on data and behavior of previous users.
Once a client subscribes to the service, the system’s analytics determines their creditworthiness and whether they are likely to face payment difficulties. For this development, statistical data from more than 10,000 individuals was used to create an econometric model with over 50 data points.
The algorithm decides if the rental service can be provided to the person in question, and whether a deposit is required. In case of rejection, the service offers alternatives, such as going through a credit partner or purchasing a bicycle. For approved customers, the system also determines the type of deal: rent-to-own, monthly, or weekly rental.
The automation of these processes has proven effective: over two years, less than 3% of bicycles were stolen from the company that serves 8,500 users. According to Bicycle Habit, around 15,000 bicycles are stolen annually in New York.
AI Technologies for Analyzing Clients Without Credit Scores
The following outlines the implementation stages of the “no credit scoring” analytics.
Development of a Proprietary Scoring System
Based on client database analysis, electric bicycle rental companies create their own scoring systems to assess financial reliability based on over 50 parameters, including non-financial ones. This model continuously learns, adapting to the behavior of current and past clients. Parameters can be adjusted, allowing for more complex or simplified scoring conditions. This product is designed for businesses working with clients unable to present the standard set of legal papers typically required by services in the U.S.
A simple example of data analysis
If a database shows that a potential client has multiple phone numbers or addresses that change every two months, it might indicate that they are changing them to avoid paying bills. This will be flagged by the system, but the final decision will be based on additional factors.
What else does the unconventional scoring system check?
Such a system also examines conventional financial indicators, such as history of bankruptcies or evictions. In such cases it takes into account factors like the timing of the client’s bankruptcy procedure. The decisions are then made on a case-by-case basis.
If a potential client has more than 10 different IP addresses, it suggests that they are likely using free or shared internet. The system checks the client’s residence and the payment location by IP address—if they are far apart, there is a high likelihood of fraud.
Stripe, an American online payment system, can be used to check whether the buyer’s payment method has been flagged as fraudulent by previous retailers. This helps identify fraud if a customer is pretending to be someone else.
The onboarding and scoring processes are fully automated through facial recognition and document verification technology to minimize fraud.
Simplification and Security for Low-Income Target Audiences
There are several auxiliary functions Integrated into the custom software:
Real-time tracking of electric bicycles.
Disabling of electronic components.
Alarm system and remote wheel locking.
Automated alerts based on collected data about the bicycle (e.g., trips in restricted areas, unauthorized state border crossing, prolonged absence of GPS signal).
The automation of the scoring process significantly increases the service’s conversion rate, as clients are informed in advance of the required documents and what to expect during the decision-making stage. This allows for the entire verification process to be completed in just a couple of minutes online, avoiding situations where someone arrives unprepared, either having forgotten necessary documents or unable to provide the required deposit.
Thanks to automation, the service can make instant decisions, expediting the onboarding process. As a result, the time from sign-up to receiving the vehicle has decreased from 60 to 15 minutes, and staff no longer waste time on those who have not passed onboarding.
Other Technologies Used by Rental Services
These technologies are employed by all top rental services in America, including Whizz, Joco, and Zoomo. The differences lie in their requirements; for example, Zoomo requests ID and proof of residence as a second document. Recently, they announced elimination of background checks, however their onboarding and scoring still involve manual processing, requiring customers to mail in their documents. Whizz and Joco are ahead of the competition here, having automated the process by using online verification providers.
Joco mitigates risks differently by allowing clients to use electric transport for six hours, after which the bike must be returned to the docking station for charging. This means that the users can’t take it home with them, and there is a time limitation in place as well.
Summary
Technology not only simplifies life but, through an unconventional scoring model, enhances the safety of electric bicycle use and addresses inequality among delivery workers. Thus, it can be said that technology extends a helping hand to those in difficult life situations—even to those without a credit score.

Disney Resorts Review
I have people ask me all the time where the best place to stay at Disney is and my response, it depends.  I know that isn’t totally helpful BUT places are better for different reasons.  Here is a quick guide to my favorites on Disney property by value rank:
Value property - least expensive
1. All Star Movies Resort
- Great price and newly renovated.  When I do quick trips with my daughter where we are in and out I don’t want to pay a ton of money.  This place offers a newly renovated room which is nice after a long park day.
- One thing we have done in the past is the day we fly home we put our baggage in the bellhop station and go to the pool. The pool here is nice but not super “fancy” and as at all Disney resort hotels they offer poolside activities    for the family that are super fun.  The most important part about this is the accessibility to the bathroom.  The bathroom by the pool has showers and lockers so after a day of swimming and before headed back to the airport you can easily shower and get ready with the towels right by the pool exit to use and return.  This was huge for us on extending our last day to be a vacation day instead of running to the airport at checkout.
2. Camping at Fort Wilderness
- I am sure when people think of Disney they are not thinking of camping BUT if your family is the camping type and you don’t plan on pounding the pavement at the parks from open to close this is a wonderful option.  There are so many things to do that you would never consider for a “Disney” vacation. Chip n Dales Campfire where you can make s’mores with the characters, pool, a ranch with horses, wagon rides, fishing, canoe rentals, bike rentals...pretty much anything you can imagine you would do at a state park but Disney style.
- You get all the perks if you DO go to the parks with transportation, water transportation and even viewing of the Electrical Water parade.
- I am DYING to go to the Snow White Character dining here.   It looks SO fun and I have heard one of the best character dining options.  They also have a all you can eat (at Disney?!) musical/comedy review show called Hoop-Dee-Doo that apparently is amazing.
SO even if you aren’t planning to go to the park but want to enjoy Disney this is a great way to do it.
Mid Range pricing
3. The Swan/Dolphin
- This is a Marriott owned hotel but a great option for people who want to get points for their stay.  There are other perks of this hotel like being able to walk to the boardwalk area, taking the water taxi to Epcot, you can use the amenities at the Swan OR Dolphin.  You get all the “Disney Resort” perks like linking to magic bands and reservations (which sometimes requires calling customer service which is a nightmare).
- Biggest flex this hotel duo has is the pool area.  There is a “beach” by the pool where you can rent paddle boats, play beech volleyball, there are multiple pools, a hidden water slide and several hot tubs in the rocks which creates a unique setting for fun pool activity.
- The rooms are newer renovated but the downside is they are rather small so 3 or 4 adults in one room is tight.
4. Port Orleans
- But which one? Yes there are two.  Riverside is the biggest with lots of rooms and the rooms are bigger.  I prefer a smaller resort that is easier to manage.  The good thing about choosing French Quarter is that you can still go to Riverside and use the amenities!
- You can stay at French Quarter and go to Riverside to use the “quiet pools” there are 5.
- French Quarter has the Scat Cat club that has live music, a really gem of all Disney lounges.
- Riverside has Princess themed rooms and is dog friendly so thats a plus for kid and pet people.
- There is a water taxi ride to Disney Springs for some of their great shopping and food.  Also, you can catch buses there for other resorts. Kind of like a bus depot.
- It was a toss up between this one and Caribbean Beach which has an awesome pool and beach area but ultimately I think Port Orleans has way more perks than the other.
High Priced
5. Polynesian - IF YOU HAVE KIDS
- The pool hands down is the best. So cool for kiddos and adults.  The kids won’t want to leave and with the amazing tiki bar you won’t either.
- They serve DOLE WHIP one of the few places outside the park that has it.
- The rooms are stunning, newly remodeled and worth every dime.
- It is super easy to get from Magic Kingdom if you have small kids and need to take a break in the day.
- Another great lounge here that is super hard to find and talked little about, Trader Sams Grogg Grotto.  We went to the tikki lounge outside thinking that was where we were supposed to go but we were wrong. This place is INSIDE behind the tikki lounge patio.  They have amazing drinks and the atmosphere is super fun. There is ALWAYS a wait so if this is something you want to do, come early or come at dinner time.  Also during the fireworks is a good time because so many people watch the fireworks from the Poly beach so it clears out a little.  Here is a video of what to expect.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93QAV9rNg_M
6. Grand Floridian - IF YOU DO NOT HAVE KIDS
- Kids can stay here, I just find this to be a very adult hotel.  If your little princess acts like one than it is prob ok, if your kiddos act more like Tigger this isn’t the right place.  There definitely an “adult” feel to the hotel.  The likely hood of having a couple on their honeymoon right next door to you is prob high.
- IT IS STUNNING and very “Old Florida”. I have heard some criticism that the rooms are run down and need renovating but I think that is what gives this iconic resort charm is the character.
- Easy walk to the Magic Kingdom and on the Monorail system.
- You can sit and watch the fireworks from their cocktail lounge terrace
Hope that helps narrow things down, there are so many options really do your homework and figure out which is best for your family/vacation!!

The Top 10 Things To Do on Cozumel Mexico
Tumblr media
Here are The Top Ten Things to do on Cozumel Mexico.
Cozumel, once a quiet off-the-grid beach town, is now an attractive Mexican Caribbean vacation destination that offers countless activities and experiences for guests. Its acceptance means there are more things to accomplish and see, from free or inexpensive activities to pricey excursions. Here’s our pick of the finest activities around.
Rent bikes for simple transportation
Because of Cozumel’s unique design – the shoreline is the primary attraction and is in the downtown’s scenery. It’s advisable to rent bikes for at least two days while you visit. This will allow you far more flexibility to explore the area without relying on taxis. Plus, with the air swirling through your hair as you cycle around, you’ll forget about the humidity.
Bar hop in downtown Cozumel or on the Eastern “Wild-side”
For night owls and party animals, Cozumel has plenty of options, whether you’re a fan of live music, DJ sets, or Caribbean salsa rhythms. If you head downtown, you’ll have plenty of choices between the clubs that fill up on the weekends and the smaller, more intimate venues that require more exploration. We recommend Woody’s for quirky live music. Head to the Money Bar if partying on the waterfront is more your style. Our favorite tour to the “wild side” of Cozumel is the Cozumel Bar Hop. They dedicate to showing their guests the secluded, breath-taking beaches of the “other side” away from the masses. This tour allows you to experience the unique beauty of the east side of the island where you won’t find resorts, houses, crowds, or even electricity!
Go swimming in the Caribbean
Yes, it sounds straightforward, but it’s one of the very best things to do in Cozumel. When the ocean is calm, it’s crystal clear and you can see right down to the bottom. When the sea is wavy and more active, it’s fun to jump and ride the waves. However, pay attention to the beach flags, which signal water conditions: a black flag means do not swim; a red flag shows dangerous conditions; a yellow flag means use caution while swimming, and a green flag means it is safe to swim. Be aware that most remote beaches do not have flags.
Cool off with a savory treat
There’s nothing like ice cream on a scorching tropical day. La Flor de Michoacán is another one of Cozumel’s top-quality ice-cream spots. And good news for people of all tastes. While its ice-creams are the best, it also serves some delicious frozen yogurt, shakes, and juices. So, if one of your family members is not in for ice creams, you still can visit this place and make the best out of your time in Cozumel. La Flor de Michoacán’s best-selling flavored ice cream is the coconut one. Feel the tinge of coconut and cream on your tongue and tantalize your taste buds. With almost thirty distinct flavors of ice-creams and popsicles available, we are sure you won’t have any trouble finding the one for yourself. From dragon fruit to cookie flavored ice cream, to a spicy Mexican flavored Popsicle, you have got it all!
Check out turtles in their natural habitat
If you’re into nature, then this is one of the must-do things to do when visiting Cozumel. Each year from May to October, most of the coastline experiences sea turtle nesting season. After the sun sets each evening, mother turtles make their way onto the beach to lay their eggs before journeying back to the surf.
Shop till you drop
Cozumel is overflowing with shops and boutiques that sell everything from luxury home goods and apparel to Mexican handcrafts and fair-trade items. Many shop owners are people who visited Cozumel, fell in love, stayed, opened a store, and sell unique merchandise that is inspired by the area.
Try Mexican craft beer
Everyone knows that Mexican beer is superb (from well-known Corona to hipster-loved Tecate or higher-end Modelo), but Mexican craft beer, or cerveza artisanal, has become very popular. There are breweries popping up and many restaurants and bars now sell craft beer. The best place in Cozumel to get craft beer is La Internacional Cerveceria. A super cozy and interesting bar for you to enjoy with your significant other. We are sure you will not regret being there even for a minute. With a wide variety of beers from all over Mexico and so many flavors to choose from, trust us, you will even find it difficult to choose your favorite beer.
Take a holiday photo at the Cozumel sign
It seems like every Mexican town that tourists visit has colorful signs for guests to be photographed alongside, and Cozumel is no different. Get creative and lie down in front of the letters, look through them, or sit on top of them. The picture you take here will make the perfect Instagram post or Facebook cover photo. One Cozumel sign is located downtown in the main square. Bring along your patience and some water because there is almost always a line.
Try out the ceviche at La Conchita del Caribe
This has long been one of Cozumel’s favorite food spots because of the ridiculously fresh and flavorsome ceviche and seafood served on the daily. While locals still stop by, this has also become somewhat of a traveler joint, but it’s still worth a visit. If that doesn’t tickle your taste buds, there is a swathe of other top-notch food vendors and restaurants that you can try out in Cozumel in both downtown and on the Eastern “wild-side”.
Go Kiteboarding
Kiteboarding is an exhilarating extreme sport. Whether you’re an expert or it’s something you’ve always wanted to try, Cozumel is a great place to kiteboard. If you don’t have your own gear, there are kiteboarding schools that offer rentals and lessons. De Lille Sports in Cozumel is a good option. Kiteboarding all depends on the wind; and remember that though the windiest months are November to May, during this time there may be days with no wind, while there may be very windy days during the non-windy months.

Aston Martin DBX Concept: Gorgeous AWD Electric Sports Car
Admit it. There are times when you wish you could get away from it all by moving to your own private island. Well, some cruise passengers actually can at least for a day. Each of the following cruise lines below offer passengers a day of fun in the sun on their very own private island. For many cruisers, this stop is the highlight of the trip. After all, what could be better than sitting on a white-sand beach, drinking a pia colada and soaking in the rays without crowds?
“It’s a wonderful destination, we will come back next year for sure!”
All of these islands have pristine shores, swaying palm trees, aquamarine waters and lots of ocean-side adventure. There usually are fees for shore excursions and equipment rental. Every destination offers something a little different for cruise passengers.
View of buildings on the coast of tropical island San Andres y Providencia
Even at first glance, CocoCay looks like the quintessential Caribbean hideaway. There are wide stretches of beach in quiet coves, island huts in bright Caribbean pinks and blues, and a colorful straw market offering Bahamian crafts and goods.
Many of the island buildings look brand new and they are. In 2002, the company invested more than US$ 21 million to turn this 140-acre (0.5 km) slip of land into a destination their passengers would never forget. Nature trails wind through the isle, which is home to wild chickens, peacocks and occasional iguanas. Those seeking solitude will enjoy the hammocks that are hung under coconut trees in quiet locations.
English Harbour, Hurricane Hole
Sea lovers have plenty of activities to choose from. Hop on a jet ski (US $ 95 for 50 minutes) and speed across waters so clear that you can see orange starfish 20 feet below, or don a snorkel mask and explore life under the sea up close.
For a great view of the island, try your hand at parasailing (US $ 79 per hour). You’ll soar 200-400 feet in the air and maybe even take a cooling dip in the water before returning to the boat. Children will enjoy Caylana’s Castle Cove and SeaTrek Aqua Park (US$ 15 adults, $10 children). Its floating sand castle and aquatic trampolines are just the things for those who are young at heart.
A staff of 45 people lives on CocoCay, and it’s obvious they take pride in keeping the island’s natural beauty in top condition. Their pampering service makes the island experience so pleasurable that you won’t want to leave when dusk falls all too soon.
“Disney knows children, so it’s no wonder that they feel at home on Castaway Cay”
The cruise ship docks right at the island (other cruise ships use tender boats to ferry passengers back and forth), so youngsters can head right down the ship’s ramp and out to explore Castaway Cay. There is a beach just for families, and Scuttle’s Cove is a safe and fun club for children. Parents need some time on their own, so there is Serenity Bay, a secluded beach for adults. For a little pampering, have a relaxing massage in the open-air cabanas at the seaside spa.
Street in Key West
Game for a little exploration? Then grab a bike (child seats are available for little ones) and hit the trails (US$ 6 per hour). This is, after all, a secluded island getaway, and there are miles of empty shoreline and tropical forest to explore.
If you prefer the water, check out the Walking and Kayak Nature Adventure ($60). Participants walk with a guide through the island’s lush fauna and kayak through an ecologically sensitive mangrove environment. If paddling wears you out, just jump in for a refreshing swim in the crystal clear island waters.
Teens can get into their own adventure on The Wild Side (US$ 35), an excursion that includes snorkeling, biking and kayaking. Families who want to adventure together can try the Seahorse Catamaran Snorkel Adventure (US$ 49 adults, US$ 29 children). This easy 45-minute sail takes you out to calm waters and unspoiled coral reefs. Even younger children will enjoy floating in the turquoise Caribbean Sea with schools of colored fish.
View of the Caribbean Sea
Visitors to the tiny islet of Motu Mahana (Polynesian for sunlit island) are greeted with the sounds of Polynesia. Les Gauguines, an eight-woman song and dance troupe, perform beguiling love songs in their Polynesian tongue while guests enjoy a scrumptious feast under the shade of thatched huts. After lunch, guests can relax in the sea or wade for yards in the shallow waters while waiters wearing bathing suits offer tropical drinks to those in need of refreshment. Try out the complimentary water sports like kayaking or snorkeling. For a different experience, board a motorized outrigger canoe and head to the beautiful island lagoon of Tahaa. Tahaa is known for two things: producing vanilla and black pearls.
Guests can take a four-wheel drive tour into the hills to tour the vanilla plantations (US$ 65) or view French Polynesia’s rare jewel, the black pearl, at the Motu Pearl Farm (US$ 64). From there, head to the lagoon for some quality time with the region’s underwater fauna. There is even a small lagoonarium where rays, turtles, sharks and fish are enclosed in four different pools.

Cabanas Tulum Hotel In Mexico Reviews
Cabanas Tulum hotel – Those who have a demanding work year know that perfect vacation isn’t about ‘the features’ you increase your trip. It’s about what you’re taking away.
Who doesn’t dream about shutting their phone off, unplugging their cellphone, and escaping to a tropical paradise where life is quiet and uncomplicated? If it seems like heaven, then Cabanas Tulum hotel could also be just the proper place for you!
This landmark beachfront hotel, nestled on the silky-smooth sands of Tulum Beach is ideal for getting unplugged, relaxed, and reunited with nature. With no telephones, no TVs, and only sixteen newly updated rooms, it feels very private and really exclusive.
Every room features incredible views of the Caribbean, with 8 beachfront ground floor rooms, 8 beachfront rooftop rooms with private rooftop and jacuzzi, 4 garden rooms and 4 sunset rooms with individual rooftops with jacuzzi overlooking the jungle.
Outline Cabanas Tulum Hotel
This hotel is found on one of the nicest beaches in Tulum, Mexico. The hotel offers a secluded location, guest rooms with free WiFi, an on-site restaurant and therefore the Ziggy’s Beach Club.
Rooms at Cabanas Tulum include hammocks on the private terrace. Some rooms are located directly on the beach. Some rooms feature a personal rooftop terrace with a bathtub.
What airport for Tulum Mexico?
All Inclusive at Riupalace Cabo San Lucas
Frescos offer international cuisine and have a children menu. Hotel guests can enjoy the beach club amenities, also as cocktails and beers.
The bilingual staff at Cabanas Tulum can arrange tours to nearby eco-friendly attractions like Sian Ka’an, a natural biosphere, or tours to sightseeing the cenotes, the natural underground pools, or visit the archaeological sites nearby including Cobá, Chichen Itza and Ek Balam.
View on Property
From the road, Cabanas Tulum is barely marked by an easy, small wooden sign surrounded by ferns. and therefore the large sandy parking zone at the doorway makes little to no impression. But reception truly sets the mood: the tiny open-air, palapa-roofed building has chalkboards, a check-in desk, a watercooler, and seating in chic, string-backed beach chairs. Hexagonal-tiled paths meander around the lush grounds dotted with flowers, ferns, and lacy hammocks, and that they cause the rooms in two-story white-washed structures with palapa roofs and spacious balconies.
Since the hotel’s restaurant and bar are located just slightly off-site, there’s not much rowdiness around the rooms or maybe down at the beach and no overlying mood music playing. For the foremost part, Cabanas Tulum carries that ideal, simple beach vacation vibe where you’re surrounded by nothing but the breeze, the constant beat of crashing ocean waves, and rustling leaves.
Rooms On Cabanas Tulum Hotel
The resort’s 16 rooms are spacious and spotless, with hip, stylish decor. Poured-concrete floors, white walls, and white ceiling fans are offset by natural-wood headboards, electric pillar candles, and colorful embroidered cushions. Amenities include air-conditioning, safes, and bathrobes, but no TVs. (Hairdryers and irons are available upon request.) The open, airy bathrooms are particularly attractive with wood beams, vessel sinks, water jugs with a beverage, and a walk-in shower with a rainfall showerhead. Extra features include personal in-room yoga mats, beach-ready bags with towels, and outdoor clothing lines by the toilet, the perfect spot to dry out swimsuits. Rooms also open onto furnished terraces with a pair of wood-slat beach chairs and a table.
Features
Cabanas Tulum Hotel could also be a little property, but it knows the way to use its space and even give guests a couple of unexpected extras. The hotel partners with nearby Ziggy’s for free of charge beach club access and sunbeds. But guests also can plop down on a lounger right Cabanas Tulum’s own lovely beach. This quiet stretch of sentimental sand maybe a relaxing spot to loll and hear crashing waves. a touch rope swing set sits to at least one side.
On the hotel grounds, the tiny rectangular pool on a raised wooden platform is lined with woven loungers and one daybed. Its petite size doesn’t offer much room for swimming, but it’s good for a cooling dip. All rooms accompany bags full of beach towels that guests can use to bring their things to the beach or pool.
The hotel itself doesn’t have any food or beverage services on-site, but Cabana guests are ready to charge food and drink purchases from Ziggy’s (just two doors down) to their room. While the beach club is often somewhat slow in commission counting on the time of day, there’s a two-for-one hour, live music, and themed dinners daily. Ziggy’s also serves free breakfast for the hotel’s guests. The spread goes beyond the standard continental fare at the most other properties and includes hot breakfast dishes.
The hotel also features a circulating library, rental bikes, yoga classes (fee), free Wi-Fi, night security, and a lot of parking.

The World’s 15 Most Romantic Island Getaways For Couples
Romance. They say you can find it anywhere if you’re with the right person. But to see it truly flourish, it helps to be in the right place—whether near or far, celebrating a special occasion, or simply escaping the bustle of everyday life. Enter the world’s most romantic island getaways. You can thank us later…
Best Islands For Romance
We’ve rounded up 15 islands we think are just right for a romantic vacation, and there are some pretty dreamy destinations to choose from! Some offer a slower pace of life ideal for tranquility and relaxation, others are exciting playgrounds abuzz with adventurous activities. All of them have the benefits of good weather, pristine water views, and the warm, warm welcome that islanders are famous for.
When it comes to finding a great place to stay, FlipKey has you covered with an array of bookable rental properties. A Palawan bamboo cabin on the beach, a luxury villa in St. Lucia, or a historic house on Mackinac Island, perhaps? With a private rental, you have the luxury of extra space (always a plus, even when it’s just the two of you). You’ll be able to come and go as you please, enjoy amenities such as a pool or a patio, and even prepare candlelit meals if that’s your thing—all in the blissful seclusion of your own rental. Rental homes can offer great value for money, even in the more upscale destinations mentioned below, so a taste of the high life might be closer to your budget than you think. That could leave you more to spend on that sunset cruise, waterfall tour, or a soak in the hot springs.
Ready to dive in? Here are some of the most romantic islands in the world for a perfect couples getaway.
Palawan, Philippines
The unspoiled archipelago of Palawan is a real treat, with its white beaches, karst outcrops, and pristine waters waiting to be explored. Try this underground tour of the Puerto Princesa Underground River and marvel at its stalactites on an unhurried, small-group excursion. And what could be more romantic than an evening gliding by boat while fireflies light the way? The area is famed for its food, although you may have to step outside your comfort zone for certain dishes—minced crocodile, anyone?
Find a great place to stay in Palawan
Capri, Italy
Capri is all about the good life, with stunning views, lovely coves, and decidedly upscale shopping all making it worthy among the world’s most romantic island getaways. Don’t miss the Blue Grotto and a taste of the local limoncello. For a special treat for your significant other, you could book a private couples’ boat tour of the island, including lunch, wine, and time to stop and snorkel. The best part: it’s reserved for just the two of you and your guide.
Find a great place to stay in Capri
Catalina Island, California, USA
This sunny Californian isle offers beaches, diving, and wildlife spotting, as well as the popular Art Deco Catalina Casino. You could start your visit with a small-group guided trip around Avalon city, a relaxed food and walking tour, or spend the day diving, swimming, and snorkeling, just the two of you. If your idea of romance comes with a bit more energy, try swinging 600 feet above sea level on this fantastic ziplining eco tour.
Find a great place to stay in Catalina
St. Lucia, Caribbean
With its gorgeous rainforest, volcanic beaches, and fine dining, St. Lucia is an obvious choice for a romantic island getaway. You can spend a day exploring your surroundings by catamaran, stopping for a romantic walk through the tropical greenery of the Diamond Botanical Gardens. Or you could opt for champagne and hors d’oeuvres on a sunset cruise. Get closer to some of St. Lucia’s most fascinating residents, such as the jacquot parrot, on this small-group aerial tram tour.
Find a great place to stay in St. Lucia
Tahiti, French Polynesia
Tahiti’s gorgeous landscape—made up of two joined islands—has beaches of black sand, volcanoes, lagoons, and homes perfectly perched above the blue waters. Get your bearings, along with some awesome views, on a Tahiti island tour, which includes the lovely waterfalls and tropical flowers of the Vaipahi Gardens. There’s even an excursion for watching the huge waves break at Teahupoo—maybe with a glimpse a surfer or two taking on the challenge.
Find a great place to stay in Tahiti
Maui, Hawaii, USA
Maui is no doubt one of the most romantic islands in the world, with its famous sunrises and sunsets, and its magnificent beaches. You can catch one of those sunsets on a dinner cruise with evening views to die for, or you could snorkel around the Turtle Arches reef on this boating and snorkelling excursion. To see the island views from the sky, book a helicopter tour and soar over Molokai and Maui.
Find a great place to stay in Maui
Moorea, French Polynesia
West of Tahiti is the smaller island of Moorea, with its lovely lagoon and white-sand beaches. There’s plenty to see here: follow hiking trails up into the lush hillsides for views across the water, try a twin jet ski tour with a guide, including the chance to swim with sharks and stingrays, or take a tour on a transparent kayak over the warm waters of the Moorea lagoon.
Find a great place to stay in Moorea
Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands
It’s easy to dial up the romance when you’re visiting beautiful Virgin Gorda. Book a sunset catamaran cruise, including some leisurely snorkelling, or for bigger budgets there’s this private sunset sail. Don’t miss The Baths, the island’s most famous natural landmark, made up of smoothed granite boulders forming pools, arches, and atmospheric tunnels.
Find a great place to stay in Virgin Gorda
Santorini, Greece
Santorini, famous for its bright white and blue houses stacked up into the hillsides, is another incredible (albeit quite well-known!) spot for a romantic island getaway. You can combine a volcanic hike and romantic dip in the hot springs on this three-hour tour. The hot springs are also on the agenda as part of this sunset catamaran cruise, which sets aside time for swimming or snorkelling along the coastline, a Greek barbecue, and breathtaking views at sunset. For something a little different, escape the beaten track on this tour of the locality’s hidden gems.
Find a great place to stay in Santorini
St. Barthelemy, Caribbean
This world-class romantic island getaway attracts the rich and famous to its soft sands, cliffs and coves, and fragrant gardens. You’ll see more than a few exclusive yachts bobbing in Gustavia’s harbor and maybe a few famous faces, too. You’ll undoubtedly be drawn to the island’s beaches (22 in all)—keep an eye out for humpback whales and sea turtles. Shell Beach is recommended for romantic wanderings and beachcombing for sea-polished treasures.
Find a great place to stay in St. Barthelemy
Bali, Indonesia
One of the most romantic islands on our list is Bali, with its fantastic food, historic temples, and idyllic beaches, not to mention its inquisitive monkey residents. See them on this private Ubud tour, complete with romantic tumbling waterfalls and hot springs. You can also swim with moray eels and butterfly fish on this snorkelling experience.
Find a great place to stay in Bali
Mauritius, Africa
Coral reefs, sandy beaches, unforgettable food—welcome to Mauritius! There’s plenty for romantic souls to get up to here: join a day trip to Bénitiers Island and see dolphins swimming about, enjoy a full-day catamaran cruise, or book a day excursion around southern Mauritius, taking in wildlife, traditional Mauritian fare, and the Saint Aubin sugar estate.
Find a great place to stay in Mauritius
Seychelles, Africa
This is a famously upscale destination for honeymooners, but there are deals to be had when you sidestep the pricier accommodation and book a private home instead. You can learn about the marine life of this Indian Ocean idyll on a boat trip to St Anne Marine Park, which includes time for lounging on the beach, swimming, and snorkelling. Or you could hop on a half-day tour of Victoria’s landmarks.
Find a great place to stay in the Seychelles
Bonaire, Caribbean
The peaceful island of Bonaire is another top choice for a romantic island getaway. It’s particularly favored by divers, and you can also try adventurous activities such as kitesurfing and windsurfing. Check out Bonaire National Marine Park and snorkel around its stunning coral reefs. First-time visitors will love this three-hour tour of Bonaire taking in its main villages, Lake Gotomeer with its resident flamingos, and the salt flats in the south.
Find a great place to stay in Bonaire
Islamorada, Florida, USA
This is the place for tranquil fishing sessions and eco reef adventures, or soaring up, up, and away to grab some amazing aerial views on a parasailing tour over the Keys. Head out to Indian Key State Historic Site to hike, snorkel, and see wading birds paddling about.
Find a great place to stay in Islamorada
Mackinac Island, Michigan, USA
We round out our most romantic island getaways with arguably the biggest “hidden gem” destination on the list. But don’t sleep on Michigan’s Mackinac Island, a true American treasure. This blissfully car-free zone on Lake Huron is best explored on two wheels, so hire a couple of bikes or electric scooters and get pedaling. Or why not increase the romance factor with a horse-drawn carriage tour? There are plenty of activities to enjoy: take advantage of the boat tours and water sports, or stay inland for a few peaceful rounds of golf.

8 Warm Weather Locations for Your First Vacation as a Smaller Family
With the holidays behind us and winter in full swing, now might be just the time to plan a vacation — yes, even if you’re newly divorced.
Adapting to a New Normal
When you and your children are in the process of healing from a divorce, there are many transitions you’ll face as you adjust to this new normal. But in the midst of these changes, it’s important to keep the emphasis on moving forward as a family, and one way to reinforce that is taking a vacation — just you and the kids.
This time to unplug from distractions, routines, and stress of the divorce can help all of you remain connected, united, and focused on one other. So if you’re looking for some warm destinations that appeal to both children and adults, consider one of these hotspots for a relaxing escape with the people you love most.
Rose Hall Estate Montego Bay, Jamaica
This eighteenth-century marvel of colonial architecture is built on a lush mountainside jutting over the turquoise Caribbean Sea. The restored plantation house will capture your kids’ imaginations, while you take in views that help you forget all the troubles back home.
If you love golf, take advantage of their two on-site championship courses. Meanwhile, the daily Rose Hall Great House Haunted Night Tour will keep your kids on their toes and entertained between snorkeling and sand castles. (Note: the haunted house is not recommended for children younger than ten years old.)
This storied Jamaican landmark will enchant you and your kiddos, making it just the slice of paradise you need to breathe deeper, smile easier, and feel renewed.
Disney’s Aulani O’ahu, Hawaii
If your kids are obsessed with Disney and you want a reason to get to Hawaii, this is the perfect spot for your first vacation as a new family. With pools, waterslides, and miles of beaches, everyone will be having the time of their life. Plus, you can avoid the lines at Disney World and still meet some of your kids’ favorite Hawaiian Disney characters. Don’t forget to book your spot at a luau to truly take in the culture of the island while keeping your kids immersed and entertained.
Palm Canyon Resort Palm Springs, California
In the heart of Southern California is this trendy desert enclave, which also happens to be the perfect fusion of child-approved thrills and parent-endorsed amenities. Palm Springs is known for its rugged scenery and distinctive wellness culture, making Palm Canyon Resort an ideal backdrop for pampering while your kids conquer waterslides and stay cool in the heat.
Don’t forget to venture out of the resort to explore the desert terrain. Take the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway to see this unique world from above or check it out first-hand by hiking around in Joshua Tree National Park.
Oasis Tulum Lite Riviera Maya, Mexico
This all-inclusive compound on the shores of the Yucatan Peninsula is shockingly affordable and has all you could ever dream of on one deluxe property. Oasis Tulum Lite features both Mexican and globally inspired restaurants, live entertainment for kids and adults, tennis courts and bike rentals, group fitness classes, four unique pools and even a Kids Club with supervised, curated activities. If an oceanside getaway on the Mexican Riviera sounds like your ideal change of pace, this Mayan treasure will not disappoint.
Las Verandas Roatan, Honduras
Off the northern coast of Honduras lies the exotic island of Roatan, and nestled within its sandy beaches and fertile mangroves is Las Verandas. This postcard-worthy complex of bungalow villas surrounded by exquisite Caribbean vistas is the ultimate escape for both outdoor adventure and relaxation.
From massage and facial treatments to the island’s only golf course and watersports like snorkeling, fishing, and scuba diving, Las Verandas will ensure that each of you feels restored, uplifted and invigorated.
Hotel Renew Waikiki, Hawaii
If you want to experience Hawaii without the Disney infusion, lift your spirit at Hotel Renew. This sleek and ultra modern destination has a Polynesian vibe, and the hotel is situated mere footsteps from Waikiki Beach where the Pacific swells are a surfer’s dream. You’ll look out over miles of sand and take in the ambiance of distant Hawaiian volcanoes.
Wake up every morning to a continental breakfast before taking your complimentary beach gear to the water and spending every day coming back to life in the sunshine.
Macaw Lodge San Jose, Costa Rica
This rustic, sustainable eco-lodge in the depths of the Costa Rican rainforest is a haven for wildlife encounters, nature conservation, wellness immersions, and farm-to-table cuisine. The Macaw Lodge is constructed with local materials such as bamboo fiber, the electricity is powered with solar panels, and the food is chef-prepared.
In addition, you and the kids can spend your afternoons hiking to waterfalls, bird watching, practicing yoga, learning to make cocoa, touring the botanical gardens, or participating in off-the-grid excursions.
Sky Ranch Lodge Sedona, Arizona
Sedona is known for its iconic red rock buttes and mystic healing energies and Sky Ranch Lodge is an unrivaled setting to experience the electric landscape. Bask poolside in the famous Arizona sunshine, roam the bluffs and canyons on foot or mountain bike, or treat yourself to a deep-tissue massage. Get out and about with the resort’s free shuttle, which will take you to nearby Southwest-inspired eateries. Head back just in time to watch the sunset paint a watercolor light show as you all unwind in the hot tub together.
Your First Vacation as a Smaller Family
The post-divorce transition can be a difficult and painful season, but you can find meaningful opportunities to bond as a family despite the changes in your world. Show your child that there are still hundreds of reasons to smile and a new horizon is on the other side this challenging time. While a vacation won’t make everything perfect, it can be the perfect opportunity to take a deep breath and escape the stress of home.

Seaside, Destin, or Rosemary Beach Florida? Choose Turks & Caicos Instead.
Best Budget Vacations: Nearcation or Can You Afford a Caribbean Island Getaway?
One can only put up with so many snowfalls, seasonal colds, and polar vortices before a little sun, sand and relaxation is needed. In fact, no matter the season, it’s always a good time to start planning your next vacation. You deserve a little exotic in your future.
But let’s be practical. Vacation planning inevitably involves budgeting. And invariably, budgeting rolls around to the topic of affordable vacation destinations, nearcations (places you can drive to), and even staycations (vacations in your town). But what you may not know is that certain far-flung vacation spots can be less expensive – and that’s including airfare – than ventures just a short drive from home.
A little secret in the travel world? Florida is not the most affordable vacation destination in town. In fact, even if you live a few hours’ drive from the state’s sand-rimmed shoreline, it’s still not the cheapest beach spot – not by a long shot.
Allow me to introduce you to a completely exotic, white-sand-fresh-seafood-Caribbean-Sea-spectacular-sunset kind of budget vacation spot: the ultra affordable, teeny tiny, secluded island of Grand Turk.
Making Cents of Budget Beach Vacations For sand-lovers and island-hoppers in the U.S., the Caribbean is the go-to pick for cheap beach vacations. Even so, according to TripAdvisor, the average cost of a one-week Caribbean vacation for a family of four is $7,152 – including $3,253 in flights and $2,772 in hotel accommodations – for an average trip cost of $1,788 per person.
Some of the most interesting findings from the TripAdvisor data? The average rate for a Caribbean hotel is $396 per night (March-April) and the average Caribbean flight comes in at $813 per person, round-trip. St Bart’s was the priciest destination indexed, topping out at a sky-high $12,486 for a week’s getaway, while Puerto Rico was dubbed the most affordable at just $5,109.
Savvy vacationers, of course, know how to lower the cost of travel: cash in airline rewards, travel during shoulder season, and trade the pricey hotel for a vacation rental. (Not only are rental homes less expensive per night, but they’re self-catering, which means you can prepare easy meals to save on restaurants.)
But all things being equal, how do the most affordable Caribbean vacations stack up to the southern U.S. nearcation/staycation favorite – Florida? And how does tiny Grand Turk compare to TripAdvisor’s budget island pick of Puerto Rico?
The short answer: Favorably. Very affordably, in fact. Believe it or not, Grand Turk beats out both Florida and Puerto Rico for the title of cheapest, most secluded beachfront Caribbean vacation. And we have the numbers to prove it.*
Inexpensive Destinations By the Numbers: Florida, Puerto Rico and Grand Turk When evaluating budget vacation options, it’s important to compare similar offerings. After all, you could escape to your nearest state park for a week of camping, all for the cost of a couple of gallons of gas, campfire cooking ingredients, and park fees. But comparing camping to a seaside escape would be like comparing apples to tulips – both colorful and enjoyable, but not at all the same.
So let’s start by defining our parameters. We’ve chosen to compare oceanfront vacation spots in Florida, Puerto Rico and the Turks and Caicos – two destinations known as cheap-and-popular beach getaways, and one tiny-but-affordable island in the middle of the aquamarine Caribbean. All three destinations offer seclusion, spectacular beaches and adventure. And at all three destinations, we’ve chosen beachfront (or beach-adjacent) vacation rentals that feature coastal-cozy décor and oceanfront seclusion.
As food and activity costs vary by traveler, we have included just one tour (snorkeling) as reference in our calculations.
Seaside, Florida The quaint town of Seaside, Florida, is a favorite destination for good reason: it’s just a five-hour drive from Atlanta; Seaside’s Emerald Coast beaches are clean and beautiful; and the town itself is completely charming. However, you’ll pay a premium for Seaside’s charm and may have a difficult time finding beachfront rentals. (The same is true of Rosemary Beach, another popular choice for Florida beach vacations.) Also be aware that Florida’s waters can be murky and sometimes teem with jellyfish – far from ideal swimming conditions!
Round-trip drive for 4: $464 (600 miles, calculated at 77.3 cents per mile for SUV driving) Travel time: 5 hours (one-way) Beachfront, 2-bedroom vacation rental: $4,835 (example; Note: not oceanfront) Snorkeling tour for 4: $152 ($38 per person) Total Cost: $5,451
Vieques Island, Puerto Rico Puerto Rico is one of the Caribbean’s best deals for Americans: it’s close, it’s a U.S. territory (you won’t lose $ on exchange rates), and airfare is generally inexpensive. We’ve chosen to highlight Vieques Island, a Puerto Rican out island that is quiet and peaceful, and offers plenty of privacy.
Round-trip flight for 4: $2,795 ($1,631 to San Juan + $1,164 to Vieques on Cape Air) Travel time: 4 hours (plus layovers) Beachfront, 2-bedroom vacation rental: $2,631 (example) Snorkeling tour for 4: $220 ($55 per person) Total Cost: $5,646
Grand Turk Grand Turk is the quiet and isolated capital island of the Turks and Caicos. Here, the Caribbean scenery is worthy of a postcard – an electric turquoise so clear, you can count the sun-bleached grains of sand on the sea floor. And while neighboring Provo, the most visited island in the Turks and Caicos, is crowded with hoards of tourists, little Grand Turk welcomes visitors to deserted beaches, pastel-painted homes, and colonial charms.
Round-trip flight for 4: $2,488 ($2,208 to Providenciales + $280 to Grand Turk) Travel time: 4 hours (plus layovers) Grand Turk Vacation Rental: $2,507 Snorkeling tour for 4: Free – in the backyard or bike to a great location Total Cost: $4,995
*Costs were calculated based on a round-trip flight (Saturday-Saturday in May 2015) for four (2 adults, 2 children) from Atlanta to each destination, and include one week (7 nights) at a secluded, beach-casual 2BR, 2BA oceanfront vacation rental comparable to Beachside Bungalow’s Sea Gull.
Save Money on Your Next Vacation: Escape to Exotic Grand Turk The numbers speak for themselves, but if you’re still wondering whether Grand Turk is an affordable Caribbean destination, try these facts on for size:
Grand Turk is just 6.5 miles long. If you like to walk or bike (free bikes with our Grand Turk vacation rental!), you won’t need to rent a car. The island’s best fish market – local fisherman, beached on the shoreline to hawk their catches of the day – is a 2-minute walk from our bungalow. Think fresh-caught tuna, mahi-mahi, and deliciously flakey grouper… And the lobster? It’s just $12/pound for sweet, meaty lobster tail! Our home comes with a fully equipped kitchen, and we’re walking/biking distance to the island’s best grocery store. You can dine island-style on cheap but exotic eats, like Grand Turk’s famous conch fritters, jerk chicken, passion fruit, peas & rice, fresh fish, crab and lobster, and other Turks & Caicos cuisine. Some of the best things to do on Grand Turk are absolutely free: grab snorkel gear from the bungalow and head out to explore the Caribbean; walk along our shimmering, white-sand beaches; and stroll through colonial ‎Cockburn Town to drink in the colonial charm. Relax and enjoy the languid pace of island life!
Gorgeous, exotic and inexpensive, too – Grand Turk is very, very tempting! And if that’s not enough, we’ll sweeten the pot with promises of our friendly island, picture-perfect beach, and light and airy home. Really, it’s paradise.
On your next vacation, don’t fight the tourist crowds (or the jellyfish) – jet off to a secluded island where your dollar stretches as far as the sandy beaches!
