Can you write something with Namor being kind of known as a player or womanizer and you're his next target? Smut please.
OH OH FBOY NAMOR
Summary: He'd had his fun with everyone he wanted. Now he wanted you, the one playing hard to get.
A little bit of cat and mouse fluff and then FILTHY SMUT
It was no secret that K'uk'ulkan had his vices like anyone else. But no one spoke of how, over the years, he had found every pretty woman his people had to offer and bedded them once or twice. He never promised affection or anything more than a night or a few where he would share their beds. No one refused either. He was their king but also an undeniably beautiful man. There were rules. He had no taste for anyone too young, married, or otherwise spoken for. The woman were sworn to secrecy, although rumors always went around. Centuries on, the carnal needs of the King were practically a folk tale.
Namor was pacing his chambers feeling particularly needy. He had gotten out of the habit of taking lovers but would succumb to temptation when his hand and imagination would not satiate him. Tonight was one of those nights, after more than a decade. He never returned to the same lovers after the end of their initial trysts. There was a woman he had seen recently on his tours through the city that had intrigued him. A smirk danced across his face as he left the palace in search of his new lover.
~~~
It wasn't hard for him to find you in the busy marketplace of Talokan. The day was winding down and you were starting to pack up your stall. You were an independent person, determined to live your own life regardless of whether you had a man or not. You lived on your own, and your family spoke highly of you. He had heard the rumors that you were hard to please, turning down suitors left and right. You were beautiful, self sufficient, and picky. Namor found that admirable.
He was sitting in your room above your market stall when you went inside. You stumbled at the sight of the King in your room and hurried to bow and show your respect. The King approached you, grasped your chin and raised you to look at him. His skin touching yours felt like a jolt of electricity.
"Hello pretty one," Namor said as he looked into your eyes. Seeing you up close he could see the fire in your spirit. You were beautiful and fierce and he wanted you. He felt as if electricity was flowing through him, a connection that increased his need.
"K'uk'ulkan, how can I serve you?" You asked. Your nerves were shot. You had never once met the king and to have him now, here in the little room you called home, so close. This truly was like being in the presence of a god. His skin seemed to emit its own light and warmth. There was a power that radiated off of him that made you anxious because it was oddly soothing.
His hand held your face up to his while his other glided up your arm seductively. That same hand gently brushed a lock of hair off your face. Your heart was hammering inside your chest. Namor leaned in close to you, your lips nearly touching when he whispered, "Will you welcome me to your bed, pretty one?"
Your eyes widened at the implication. You had heard the rumors and stories. The insatiable needs of the King. Although no woman in years had claimed to have been taken by him. But the truth was here as he pressed his body against yours, and leaned his lips closer. His need was like a wave of electricity leaving him and entering you. Instinctively your hands found his chest and you pushed him away with all your might, breaking the connection. The King stumbled back, surprised at your refusal but he schooled his features.
"I-I am sorry, my king, I cannot. I will not," You stuttered out, worried about what your refusal would imply for your future.
He gazed at you curiously then turned to leave. He stopped at the door way then turned back to you, "I am sorry. Do not speak of this to anyone. I will respect your choice."
Then the King was gone. Your legs gave out beneath you as you caught your breath. What had just happened? You had refused the King, K'uk'ulkan himself. You had refused a god. What misfortune would fall upon you now?
~~~
"Why didn't you just say yes?" Your dearest friend, Inaya, asked you.
"Would you have said yes if he just appeared in your home ready to ravish you?" You replied. You were in that very room with Inaya discussing what had happened the night before. You were overcome with worry that the King may retaliate or the gods may punish you for your transgression. Inaya wasn't being of any help.
"Yes, yes I would have. Not just because he is our king but because I would count myself lucky to be bedded by him. You have heard the old stories. Mindless pleasure, overwhelming affection, and most of all no shame and no commitment. It's a win-win situation. You get to explore your carnal pleasures with an incredible man and then you get to return to the real world," Inaya reasoned, "I'm rather jealous. They say it's been 50 years since he's taken a lover. I bet he's quite wound up."
"Inaya, you are incorrigible," You chastised your friend.
"You have been courted by every eligible man in Talokan and you have refused every single one. If I didn't know better I would think that you were weeding out everyone except the King himself," She scoffed, "Well you've lost your chance now. They say he never returns to the same woman once the affair has ended, and you ended it before it started."
"Even if I did want the King, you said it yourself, there would be no commitment. He beds who he wishes and he leaves. I don't want that. I am looking for my forever, my soulmate. I just haven't found him yet," you looked down at your hands, wondering if you were being too picky.
Inaya took your hand and gave it a squeeze, "You never know, maybe the King is looking for his soulmate too he just has different methods."
"Ugh men," you wrinkled your nose.
"But what a man he is," Inaya sighed looking off into the distance with an enamored look on her face.
"Oh shut up," you threw a pillow at your friend and you both descended into laughter.
~~~
Namor sat on his throne, frustrated. Not just because of his growing need for release but because he could not find interest in anyone else but you. The only woman to ever deny him. The shot he took to his ego was tremendous. You had responded, at first, positively. You had let him get close, you had let him touch you. Where did he go wrong?
The night hours were beginning and he decided to visit you again. He had his rules yes, but those were made to be broken. Within the hour he was in your room again, waiting for you.
Namor felt oddly nervous and couldn't shake the feeling that if you were to reject him again he may never recover. When you appeared in your doorway he stood and bowed to you at the same time you bowed to him. He could tell you were nervous so he made no move to approach you.
"M-my king, you have returned," The way you stuttered made him feel awful for how forward he had been with you. In the past he had spent more time charming the women he would bed, not quite courting, but making sure they would be willing. He had waited too long and allowed his need for a woman drive him to near abuse. He was disgusted with himself.
"I came to truly apologize for yesterday. I should not have come here and taken those liberties with you. If it is a mutual arrangement it should have been discussed not just thrust upon you," Namor's voice was low and tinged with shame.
"But you are here again?" You could tell he was sincere. His demeanor tonight was very different than the last time.
"I, yes. I wanted to apologize but if I waited at your door I would draw attention. I did not want people to talk ill of you," Namor replied. He stood, "I will leave you now."
"No, wait. My king, share some fruit with me. That is all I ask," You replied, not sure why you invited him to stay but you also wanted to spend more time with him.
Namor was taken aback but nodded and joined you at the small table as you cut the fruit and prepared it for the both of you. The silence was not awkward but also not comfortable. You were both glancing at each other, sizing each other up, worried about the next move. Once the fruit was prepared you offered it to the King first. Knowing the custom that he be served first he did not insist that you precede him.
The silence continued as you both chewed thoughtfully and avoided eye contact. You were the first to speak, finally letting curiosity get the better of you, "Why me? You could have chosen anyone, so why me?"
Namor looked at you thoughtfully, "You are beautiful. That was the first thing I noticed. But I also heard of your independence, stubbornness, and of course your popularity. I saw how you worked the market and treated the elders as gently as you treat the children. You are well mannered but not to the point of being a pushover. I found you to be intriguing. And those who are intriguing to me are also enticing."
You felt yourself flush hearing the words of praise and realizing he had been watching you for some time. Before you could stop yourself you blurted out another question, "Is it true it's been 50 years since you took a lover?"
Namor couldn't help but laugh lightly at the question that you seemed to regret asking, if you covering your mouth with both hands was any indication. He coughed and replied, "It has only been 10 years. I know of the rumors. I was never naïve enough to think none of the women whose beds I'd lain in would not tell someone about it. But some did if the 50 year rumor is still going around. "
The confident smirk on his face had your mind spiraling into a very inappropriate place due to the topic of conversation. As you contemplated if you wanted to hear more about the King's sex life he asked you a question.
"Why did you say no?" Namor was curious as any man would be. Not only was he the King but he knew he was quite handsome after years of being told he was.
You contemplated how to answer, "I am looking for my forever love. I will not give myself to anyone I think will leave me. You are my king, and of course you would never leave Talokan. But you would not stay by my side the way a husband would, no matter how many times I allow you into my bed. You are no doubt handsome and regal and some may say I am too picky for my own good. But I will not compromise just because a king asks me to."
Namor couldn't help but smile at your answer. You were as stubborn and immovable as you had been rumored to be, "None of your many would be suitors have won over your trust enough that you think they will not leave you?"
You opened your mouth and closed it again. It was a fair question. Many of them were good people, had good reputations, came from good families and offered you the world. You took a moment and then answered, "I cannot say that I did not trust them, I just could not bring myself to love any of them. I don't know why. There was an electricity, a wanting that I was searching for that I could not find with any of them."
"None of them brought that out in you?" Namor asked as his mind revisited your last encounter.
"No one has," You replied, the two of you had finished the fruit and were now focused completely on each other. You looked at the King in the eye, bearing your soul to him as if compelled to. He reached out a hand and cupped your cheek. You unconsciously leaned into it slightly feeling a sting like a current of electricity passing through you, "No, some one has."
Namor heard your words and knew you had felt the same electricity he had felt when you had first touched. The same electricity you spoke of and searched for. Namor pulled his hand away and stood suddenly.
"It is late. Thank you for the fruit and for your graciousness. I apologize again for taking liberties with you," Namor avoided your eyes and left your home swiftly.
~~~
"So he came back, you guys had a snack, and then you talked about why you keep rejecting people, including him?" Inaya said summarizing the story you had just told about the night before.
"Yes, that's what happened," You nodded, still contemplating the series of events.
"Then he just left all of a sudden?" Inaya was looking at you incredulously.
"Yes, he just left and I went to bed," You replied, not sure what else to say on the matter.
"He still wants you," Inaya said with finality.
"What makes you say that?" You were growing tired of talking about the king.
"You're forbidden fruit now. You know how men are. They always want what they can't have," Inaya reasoned, "When he comes back bed him for me. Not for yourself but for me because I will never be as lucky as you are right now."
You threw a pillow at your friend again, ignoring her pleas to live vicariously through you.
~~~
Namor was incredibly frustrated both physically and mentally. He wanted you but it was more than that now. He wanted to know you, everything about you. But could he do it, could he really court you, fully commit knowing that he would likely outlive you. That was why he never stayed with any lover for too long. But now, he thought maybe you were worth it. Namor could not deny the connection he felt to you. The electricity you spoke about was there and he knew you felt it too. But denial was so much easier.
The King paced in front of his throne trying to decide what he was willing to put himself through. He had no doubt he would and could dote upon any woman he chose to be by his side. Love them and adore them with every thing he was but was he prepared to lose them in the end. Was he prepared to lose you at the end of it all? He was contemplating eternity without the love of his life after talking to you twice. You could be that to him, he reasoned with himself.
He wanted you to be that to him.
The decision was made. The King had spent too long trifling and embracing a loneliness he hated. If having time with you meant eventually losing you to time itself, he wanted to have you. He did not want to have any regrets and live in 'what ifs'.
A connection like this was rare, your failed suitors were a testament to that.
But now he was your suitor and he would not fail.
~~~
When the King did not surprise you with his presence for four nights, you had finally settled back into life. Inaya was disappointed and maybe you were a little too. But it was all better this way.
On the fifth night he returned. You were so tired that when you came up to your room you didn't notice him standing there at first. You had closed your eyes and were stretching in your doorway when he spoke.
"Hello, pretty one," he spoke softly.
You jumped and nearly rolled back out the door but the king stepped forward and took your forearm, gently pulling you into the room. He did not linger but instead let you go and stepped back. You noticed that around him were baskets of flowers and fruits.
"K'uk'ulkan, what is happening?" You stared at him, not sure what to do.
"These are my first gifts and my humble request to begin courting you," Namor replied, gesturing to the baskets.
"You want to court me? Do you think you will be able to bed me after a few gifts?" You were insulted. Did he think you were really that easy?
"What? No. I am being serious. I wish to court you in the hopes of making you my wife and queen. I can bed you when that happens," He smiled at you as if his answer were obvious and you shouldn't have jumped to conclusions.
"You want to marry me?" You were skeptical. You walked up and perused the baskets. Your mouth watered at the sight of your favorite fruit. You shook your head and looked up at the king, refocusing. "Why did you suddenly change your mind?"
"Electricity. You spoke of an electricity and a yearning you were looking for. I felt it when I met you that first night. I know you did too," The King was standing close to you but not touching,
"I'm not sure."
"Do not lie. Please." The way he said those words, and the look he gave you was drenched in vulnerability. This man, this King, known for his noncommittal trysts was asking for you to agree that there was a possibility for more.
"You are right. I felt it." The admission made him breathe a sigh of relief, he kissed your cheek chastely then backed away.
"You are tired and it is late. I will return tomorrow. We will go to your parents and tell them my intentions so we may court properly," Namor was actually smiling slightly as he said it.
"You want to go to my parents? You are that sure?" You were surprised but you guessed his forwardness when it came to physical attentions also translated to more appropriate interactions.
"Yes. I have thought long and hard over the last few day, preciosa. I want to do this the right way. I will court you," He took her hand in his, "I will win your trust that I will never leave you, and I will win your heart."
He stood close to you again and whispered in your ear, "And when we are wed I will ravish you in every room of the palace and fill you with my seed on my throne."
Namor smiled wickedly at you, confidence and affection radiating off him like sun beams. You knew you were blushing and also felt a carnal desire coiling inside of you. "Goodnight, pretty one. Until tomorrow."
Then he was gone, and you were smiling.
~~~
The courtship was as traditional as you could expect, but also incredibly extravagant. K'uk'ulkan had never courted anyone and knowing how many had attempted before him, he made sure to one up every single one of them.
Your parents were surprised, honored, and intimidated. But you were the perfect match for the king. You brought out a softness in him that no one knew existed. And he brought out a playfulness in you that even your parents had not seen in so long.
Your courtship remained innocent apart from chaste kisses on the cheeks and hands. But he was to be found in you room every night, peeling and chopping fruit for you as you exchanged stories.
He regaled you with tales from his long life, from the creation of Talokan to his recent war with Wakanda. You in turn told him stories of living as a commoner in Talokan, the friends you had, the people you called family in the market place. You ate up his stories the same way he ate up yours, bringing both your worlds into light.
Each night Namor would kiss your cheek and leave you. Each night the electricity between you intensified, Each night you wished he would stay but he never did.
The celebrations that followed your betrothal were legendary and filled you with excitement. You had grown to truly love K'uk'ulkan.
When you told him just that he did not hesitate to return the love he received and finally captured your lips in a passionate kiss that you both had trouble tearing yourself away from. Parting that night was harder than any other night before it.
~~~
The wedding was full of regalia and tradition and love and family. It was a great thing that Talokan finally had a queen. Not just any Queen but a beautiful, kind, and loved queen. The festivities continued in the city as the King stole you away to the palace.
You swam together through the halls, stopping only to steal fervent kisses, and open doors. When you entered what would be your shared chambers, the King was upon you.
His kisses were desperate as he undid your dress blindly. His hands danced across your body as he slipped off every article of clothing but left you in your jewelry. You did the same to him, between kisses and caresses. When your bare skin finally touched with no barriers except the slight clink of gold hitting gold you both gasped and moaned. That feeling of electricity intensified and you wanted more.
Namor held your face to his, kissing you passionately as he guided you to lay on the bed. He was groping your body hungrily as you maneuvered on top of you. Breaking the kiss he looked down into your eyes, "My queen, in yakunaj, I cannot wait to have you. I am desperate to feel you around me."
"Take me, in ajawo," You replied equally as desperate.
His lips met yours in a harsh and needy kiss as he spread your legs finding your pussy wet with your juices. Gently he fingered you, making sure you were ready for him. Your moans escaped your lips as he sucked on your neck and gently stretched you with his fingers. You had never felt anything like this, the pleasure, the need, the electricity was overwhelming. He spread your legs apart and guided his cock to your core. When he began easing his tip inside of you, you clenched in anticipation.
"Relax, my queen, let me in," He whispered into your ear before nibbling your earlobe. You gasped and felt him push in further. You already felt so full but when he fully sheathed himself inside you, you saw stars. Currents of pleasure flowed through you as he covered your torso with kisses, while building a rhythm with his hips.
The sensations were overwhelming. Now you understood what Inaya was saying about pleasure beyond measure. You could not think straight. You were melting into him and he was melting into you. His thrust grew more powerful and you could feel your wetness spilling from you. If you could think a full thought you might have been embarrassed, instead you were moaning wantonly as the King plowed into you.
Your first orgasm as you lay beneath the King made you claw at his back and bite his shoulder. His growl was followed by his stuttering hips as he emptied himself inside of you. When he finally slowed to a stop and pulled out, he showered you in tender kisses and whispered words of love and praise.
You felt like you were made of jelly and yet you were already thinking about doing it again but trying a different position. You laughed to yourself at the realization.
"What is it, pretty one? What amuses you?" The King was also smiling as he kissed his way from your jawline to your lips.
"I was thinking about being on top next time," You met his eyes after you said it and saw them dilate in real time.
"Oh my Queen we can try anything you want, we have all the time in the world," He pulled you close and kissed your temple, "The palace guards have been told to stay in the perimeter and the maids have been told to leave us alone for the week. I plan to keep my promise and have you in every room."
"Don't forget the throne," You teased.
He rolled to lay on top of you again and kissed you, slipped his tongue in your mouth, then nibbled your lip making you moan. "I will pump you so full of my love that in less than a month we will have something new to celebrate."
The way he looked at you when he said that made something in you go feral. You grasped his chin and pulled him in for a crushing kiss. As he melted into the embrace you pushed him onto his back. His cock was still recovering but was hard enough that when you lined it up with your pussy and impaled yourself on it, it drove home.
Namor gasped as you took control. He could feel himself hardening inside of you as you experimentally rolled your hips. The strangled moan that escaped him made you smile. You braced your hands on his thick chest and thrust down on him. The feel of his hands finding and grasping your hips drove you on.
You found a rhythm that made you certain all the electricity in the world was focused on where you were joined with the king. You kept that rhythm until you came hard, liquid gushing out of you in a way it hadn't the first time. You collapsed onto his chest, and he held you to him as he continued thrusting into you from below.
The pleasure was making you delirious. You could vaguely hear the King once more whispering his devotions to you peppered with the dirtiest language. Praising the wetness of your pussy and how well you took every inch of him. The way he moaned your name into your hair as he filled you again was godly.
As you both lay, barely conscious, you almost wonder if your pleasure would have even reached such a peak if you had allowed him to take you that first night. When he wrapped his arms around you and groggily whispered how much he loved you, you had your answer.
~~~
WHEW. alright.
The ripple effect
So finally, it would seem the news from Hollywood are not good at all. A press release from SAG-AFTRA informs us that AMPTP/TPTB chose to drop the towel after a very long negotiation process (not a good sign, in my book), that continued even after their latest unacceptable offer, as you can read down below (https://x.com/sagaftra/status/1712368110253285730?s=20):
The mainstream media (always NYT, in this house) reported also on the studios' offer, which may or may not be helpful for understanding what exactly is at stake (https://www.nytimes.com/2023/10/12/business/media/actors-strike-talks-suspended.html?searchResultPosition=2):
Now that is a very hardball, completely insolent position. I am peeling my eyes in disbelief at the idea of offering 'further protections around the use of A.I.', when it was hoped that the use of A.I. would be treated as an exception, not as future reality the industry should work 'around'. This is what really is at stake, not the almost abusive allegation of 'unbearable economic burden' (that is a mafioso pretext) an 800 million USD yearly viewership bonus would supposedly entail. The real financial impact of such a compromise solution, as disclosed by SAG-AFTRA, is negligible: 'less than 57 cents/subscriber'.
And, to make things worse, it would seem the studios deliberately lied to the press, too (it would not be the first time - we shippers know it so well, eh?):
All this circus, despite a cataclysmic impact on California's economy:
(Sourced at: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/21/realestate/writers-strike-rent-ny-la.html).
And that was the situation three weeks ago, when I found this article and promptly set it aside, waiting for the right moment to share it with you. And you know the situation is serious, when news like these are to be found not in the business, but in the real estate section of the newspaper. Along with this kind of comments, likely to suggest the possibility of unrest, if things go on like this:
People living in their flats without electricity or sleeping in their cars: it would seem this strike added unwanted insult to the drastic COVID injury in this particular sector of the labor market.
But what interested me the most about this whole affair was the ripple effect on the British film industry, in an attempt to see what is next for OL's Season 8. Thankfully, I didn't have to go very far and speculate more than the NYT did itself. Oh, and before Mordor starts shouting insanities, their LHR's correspondent paper, back in September, is called 'Hollywood Strikes Send a Chill Through Britain’s Film Industry' (https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/19/business/hollywood-strikes-uk-filmmaking-industry.html):
Despite my unflappable optimism, I have to say that doesn't sound good at all, especially when you know this is precisely the case for OL, a production 'with stars who are SAG-AFTRA members' (or at least compelled to stand in solidarity with the strike, by SAG-AFTRA's own statement of conduct). I predict a very late start for the shooting of Season 8. And further unrest in the UK sector 'in the middle of next year' means that UK based and staffed productions may be fewer and less important, since that calendar announced by Equity could seriously compromise their promotion, a risk not many studios are willing to take. So less alternatives for both S&C, at least for the UK alone.
The writers' strike was a very long one - five months. I suppose the studios are willing to play for time and prefer a long stalemate of the negotiations with SAG-AFTRA, in the attempt of breaking the union consensus from the inside. With people's economies gone and the prospect of a dire, uncertain way ahead, there is no way SAG-AFTRA's compensations, mainly aimed at keeping people afloat with their rent costs, could cover the real impact on its members' everyday lives, on the long run. They would also prefer to foolishly cry over a fictitious 800 million USD 'burden' and not see the (at least) six times bigger negative impact on the local economy, which translates both in net losses of profit for thousands of businesses (mainly SMEs) and thousands of lost jobs.
And in the middle of all this, it would seem that Herself is on her way to the NYCC. Whatever for, sweet summer child, I would brazenly ask this strange, diminutive woman who started it all.
Metal's Delicate Touch - Part 1
A/N: Hello! I'm branching out into another Fandom! Likely its just gonna be for this one character, but I'm excited to share another character I'm passionate about!
Pairing: Bucky Barnes X Reader
Words: 2.7k
Warnings: Blood and injury (Nothing terrible), Hurt reader, Reader gets mugged, I think that's all? let me know if I missed.
Summary: Bucky saves you from a mugging gone bad and is instantly pulled in by your warmth and compassion
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6
_________________________
A roughened hand clamped itself over your mouth as grubby fingers rifled through your pockets.“When I asked you to stop, you really should have just stopped, sweetheart.” Your mugger spat as his number two pocketed everything you had on you.
These two men had followed you around the market for a while then towards your shitty little hostel. Eventually, they called out for you, chasing and cornering you in a blocked-off alley after you tried to run.
You had made to scream out for help, but your mugger immediately pulled out a gun from his heavy jacket, fitted with a silencer and everything.
They were not messing around.
As you struggled against the hands of your assailants you spotted a man walking past the occupied alley. His shoulders were broad and strong, evident even through his leather jacket. His shoulder-length hair and his baseball cap covered most of his profile, which was pulled down low in an obvious show of ‘don’t fucking talk to me’.
But you had no choice.
You bit down hard on the hand covering your mouth, blood instantly hitting your tongue. You did your best not to gag on the vile taste and screamed as soon as the hand pulled away. “Help me! Please! Hel-” and you were cut off as his hand clamped over your mouth once again.
“You little fucking bitch-” He seethed, pressing the gun against your thigh and pulling the trigger, the sound cushioned by both the silencer and your soft flesh that even you barely heard it over your heartbeat. Though muffled by his hand, your scream strained your throat with all its ferocity and pain. Tears welled in your eyes as your brain swam with newly radiating pain, but your eyes still searched for the man in the baseball hat.
You struggled to keep your bleary eyes open and your heart fell when you no longer saw him. Did he leave? Did he even hear you?
Heavy tears fell as your eyes screwed shut and another wave of pain like malevolent electricity ran through your limbs as you tried to shift your weight under their grasp.
“Hey-” Was all you heard your mugger say as his weight was thrown away from you. A resounding THUD bounced off the walls as his body did just the same. Brick bit against your skin as you slid along the wall to the ground, your single good leg no longer having the energy to support you.
More thuds and grunts came from the space before you and as you peeked open your eyes you saw the man in a baseball cap beating the shit out of your assailants. His punches were sharp and skilled, and his entire demeanor seemed glazed over as he got lost in the blood and grunts.
“That’s enough..! That's fine..!” you yelled, not wanting to see their deaths, and his whole disposition changed in an instant. His square shoulders softened at the edges and his fists loosened as he turned to face you. You had never seen two men run so fast as your muggers did when they saw him distracted, turning their bruised and bloody tails as they ran.
His face was mostly shadowed as he scooped up your stolen items, though his eyes just shone through the darkness, promising the most striking gaze you had ever seen.
He extended a hand to you wordlessly as he approached, an invitation for his further help and you were glad to take it.
You griped his hand tight and started pulling yourself to your feet, “Thank you so much, I- Ah..! Fuck, Fuck hold on…” you loosened your grip on his hand, dropping back to the ground. Your hands instantly went to your leg wound, feeling the hot blood that had seeped out as you strained to stand.
“I- I don’t think I can stand on my own. I’m sorry, um… I’ll figure something out.” You glanced at your surroundings, trying desperately to come up with a good solution. Your knight in a baseball cap watched you quietly for a moment before he reached down to you again, both arms this time as he effortlessly scooped you up bridal style.
“Oh..!” you gasped in surprise but held tight to him with your arms around his neck. “Thank you… You can just drop me at any hospital and I’ll greatly appreciate it. I don’t wanna be a bother,” you offered. His grip on you tightened as you suggested he dropped you off, as you suggested that he leave you.
He couldn't put a word on exactly what it was that made his stomach lurch at the thought of dropping you off with a bunch of strangers. Strangers who would undoubtedly hurt you and ruin the fine but subtle scent you gave off. It was your scent of damp moss and sweet gardenias which made his heart feel a softness he feels he knew only in another lifetime.
Your slight wince drew him out of his deep well of thought and he quickly loosened the grip of his ungloved hand which was squeezing far too close to your open wound.
Despite his prominent objections, you could only get a low grunt out of him as he shook his head and continued his steadfast journey. “Can I at least know where we’re going then?” you asked, being met with even less of a reply.
The journey was quiet as he carried you to an old apartment building, your arms resting comfortably around his neck as he carried you up the winding stairwell and into a small apartment.
It was rather bare for the most part, with only the necessities and no items to show comfort or leisure- only survival. Your eyes bounced around from object to object, a book or two, simple cookware, and a couple of small guns. The last of which should have given you more pause, but you figure if he wanted you dead, he’d have left the other guys do it- so it must be for protection.
“Do you have a name? I’m not really fond of joining men in their apartments without at least knowing their name first.” You mused as he set you down on the all-too-firm bed, the faintest wince of discomfort as the foreign object in your leg moved with you.
At first, you weren't sure if he heard you as his attention immediately became consumed by searching around the apartment. You waited a few moments before you asked again. “I’d rather not just call you ‘handsome stranger’ for the rest of our time.” you laughed awkwardly, trying to lighten the intense mood that seemed to cling to this man no matter what. “Is there something I can call you-”
“They...” his first hints at a spoken word had you immediately silenced, desperate to hear if his voice matched the brooding exterior he put off. He came back with a white box, setting it down beside you before he pulled his hat off. His blue eyes were just as striking as promised and searched your face for something neither of you could name.
“They… They called me James once.” his voice rumbled out, raspy and quiet from its limited use. The vibrations of his husky voice put you at ease, despite his intense stare which you found yourself quickly growing accustomed to.
A small smile grew on your face as you introduced yourself, “Well thank you for saving my life, James.” Something drew you to reach out for him, just for the lightest touch, the gentlest graze- but when his whole body flinched back you quickly withdrew your hand. “I’m sorry, I-”
“No.” He quickly interjected, those vibrant blues locking with your eyes, “Don’t apologize.”His weight shifted a bit- as if he was trying to hold everything in in your presence.
“And don't thank me yet-” He started as he opened up the white box, only now noticing that one of his hands was hidden away in a leather glove. Medical tweezers, alcohol pads, stitches- almost every possible at-home medical instrument you could think of was stocked into this kit. “-the bullet still needs to come out.”
Oh fuck. You had almost let yourself forget about the bullet still lodged in your leg and the blood that still slowly seeped out over your pants. “Fuck… okay.” you nodded, understanding exactly what he needed from you.
His eyes watched with a growing hunger that he quickly fought down as you tried to shimmy out of your pants- eventually resorting to asking him for help. A buzz ran over his skin as he made that first contact- calloused fingertips pressing against the supple skin of your upper thighs and dragging slowly down the length of your legs.
With little hesitance, he knelt down between your spread legs, his shoulder to you as he lined himself up for the best angle. His gloved hand gripped behind your knee to hold you in place and inadvertently sent a jolt straight to your core.
‘Not now’ you shunned your body.
“Bite this.” He instructed and handed you the cap he had just been wearing.
“What’s this fo-AH!” You yelped out, immediately bitting down on the brim of the hat, as the long medical tweezers he had dug around your flesh for the bullet in question. You did your best to keep quiet, not wanting to alert the neighbors but it was hard.
Your whimpers echoed around the room to him, bouncing from the wall to his ears in an endless pained cycle. “James, wait- please… I need a break,” you begged as your hands, tense and desperate for something to hold, naturally found their place in his hair.
You didn’t have the mind about you to notice the way he flinched when your fingers touched him, nor the way he softened soon after he realized how gentle you were still trying to be. Even with your immense pain you didn’t jerk his head back or dig your nails into his scalp- no, you tugged and clenched your fingers around his long hair, but still never had the heart to hurt him.
Practiced hands eventually pulled the crushed metal out with a disgusting squelch. A relieved and breathy sigh passed by your parted lips as it was finally done and your hands came away from him.
“Good girl…” he spoke it quietly, just enough for you to hear and for it to stop your heart for what felt like minutes, stirring you once again. He took surprising care and delicacy as he continued to clean and wrap your leg until you were fully taken care of.
With a grunt you carefully rose to your feet, hobbling around the apartment as you tested out your leg- you could barely put any weight on it, but it would do for now. “I don’t know how I can ever thank you enough… “ you said as you watched him pack everything away again.
“Well, you could… stay?” His voice came quietly as if he was almost ashamed to ask you for so much, but he needed this- needed you. “At least until your leg is healed…” he urged, hoping you’d at least agree to baby steps with him.
“I…” you started, searching his face carefully, trying to read each and every crease, though you were no expert- not like he was. However, what you did catch was the evident yearning. Innocent and true, the way a child yearns for their crush to sit next to them at lunch. It was a look behind his eyes that said ‘I can’t be alone now that I’ve found you’.
You could use the help as you healed… and your hostel was far worse than this. Something about the firm but gentle way he held you surrounded you with a sense of safety you’d rather not give up so easily. Not to mention those handsome eyes that made your heart flutter in your chest.
“I’ll stay” you nodded, smiling a bit at the way his lips just curled up at the ends, the most emotion you had seen from him yet.
He didn’t let you hobble for very long before he was urging you to sit down and rest. You obliged but still did your best to stay close, sitting on the counter as dinner was made and stealing bites here and there. You smiled at the way he relentlessly shooed you away each time, eventually resorting to gently thwapping your hand with the sauce-laden spoon.
His smile grew as you licked the sauce off your hand and hummed along to the jovial beat the radio sang, your fingers still searching for more bites to steal. Your warmth seemed to light up the entire room as you simply existed beside him and he could feel even the shadiest corners of himself become a little easier to look into.
After dinner, your body was begging you to sleep after its incredibly long say and you weren’t one to deny it. Instantly you were out like a light, Your sleeping form sprawled out on your side of the thin mattress.
Bucky watched your chest rise and fall evenly as you let out slow puffs of breath. Your shirt had ridden up to expose your soft belly and the gentle curve of your hips. Your underwear was the only true cover your lower half had, the bandages having bunched and protested as you tried to re-dress.
He knelt beside you, eyes transfixed on the little signs of life you gave out. The breaths, the tiny movements against the sheets, and the steady beat of your heart all came together to form a melody unlike that of any other.
He peeled off the glove from his metal hand and reached out slowly, hesitantly, until his fingers just barely grazed your lower stomach. You let out a short quick gasp as the cold metal made itself known on your skin, causing him to instantly flinch backward.
When you settled and didn’t stir any further he knew it was safe to go in again. His touch was a little more confident as he ran his fingers from stomach to hip, loving the way your soft flesh bowed to his touch.
His heart swelled in his chest as you let out a gentle huff, your hand coming to rest over his as you shifted in your sleep. Racing heartbeats rushed passed his ears, the only sensation he could take in besides the sleepy expression on your lips. Patiently he worked his way out of your grip, making sure not to disturb your sleep.
And with that, a sense of purpose returned to him that day- a lifelong mission if you will- to ensure you would never lose such peace again.
Excerpt from this story from EcoWatch:
Sunrun, a solar company, and Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE), the largest utility provider in Maryland, have launched a pilot program for a bidirectional power plant fueled by solar energy and EV technology.
The pilot, which involves three households, allows users to draw energy from a Ford F-150 Lightning electric truck when paired with the Ford Charge Station Pro and Home Integration System sold by Sunrun. This setup lets the household utilize energy from the EV during peak energy demand, Smart Energy International reported.
The pilot program is the first vehicle-to-home power plant in the U.S. and was funded with grants from the U.S. Department of Energy.
“This program is a significant proof of concept — no other market player has done this — and the goal is to expand these programs all around the country,” Sunrun CEO Mary Powell said in a press release. “This exciting partnership lays the foundation for the power grid of the future where electric vehicle owners can contribute to grid resiliency and utility price stability for everyone. The summer heat can be especially stressful on our power grid, which is why proving the use of stored energy in electric vehicles for capacity is so important.”
The process works by sending energy from the EV batteries to the homes, allowing the vehicle batteries to operate as energy storage. This can complement solar energy sources as well as reduce demand on Maryland’s power grids during peak times. The bidirectional power provided through the charging station can power homes for up to 10 days in the event of an outage, Sunrun said.
For the pilot program, the trucks share energy from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays from June 1 to September 30. The pilot is offering an estimated $800 to participants.
Currently, there are only a limited number of EV models that offer the bidirectional charging feature, including the Nissan Leaf, the 2024 Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 models from Hyundai, Kia’s EV6, EV9 and Niro EV, and the Ford F-150 Lightning, Cars.com reported.
More vehicles are expected to introduce bidirectional charging in the coming years, including all GM and Tesla EV models, CNET reported.
Sunrun and BGE are planning to expand the program after monitoring the pilot and will offer incentives for F-150 Lightning owners to join, helping increase grid resilience. The program could also help contribute toward Maryland’s goal to reach net-zero emissions by 2045 and achieve 100% clean electricity by 2035.
Errr gratuitously fluffy prickcest i wrote for me bc as much as i wanna see them at each others throats i also wanna see the fluff!!! Summary: Rick stays over at Prime's house again. Rating: M Pairing: prickcest
Bright moonlight streamed over Rick’s face, stirring from sleep. Rick’s internal clock had been screwed up from the amount of space travel they’d been doing but he checked his watch anyway out of habit.
10:30AM EST (EARTH STANDARD TIME)
He felt Prime nuzzle into his neck, his arm tightening around his waist while his thigh slipped up firmly between Rick’s legs.
It had been an exhausting day that had started out innocently enough, involving specimen collection and harvest (Rick’s idea) and somehow ended in gunfire after having cut a shady deal on the black market (Prime’s idea). They’d both gone straight to bed after taking a shower together, only bothering to pull up a pair of boxers, which Prime seemed to have lost sometime after Rick fell asleep.
Rick stretched out his muscles sinuously, luxuriating against the feel of Prime’s smooth, warm chest that was moving against him with slow rising breaths. His arms were aching a little with the constant strain of shooting artillery all the time, covering Prime’s reckless ass.
Speaking of ass, Rick flushed as he remembered getting his ate out for the first time the night before. He couldn’t help but rock his hips back and forth, trying to grind discreetly into Prime’s bare thigh tucked close to his groin.
Rick shivered as he clenched involuntarily from the memory of Prime’s tongue pressing itself into him so deeply. He’d been nervous, pressing his thighs together as Prime straddled his stomach trying to pry him apart. Do you trust me? Rick gave a small nod. Because yes, he did trust Prime. As insufferable as his cosmic twin was, when he got that determined gleam in his eye nothing could shake him from his purpose and Rick had yet to be let down. The pay off? So worth it as Rick came praying to a god he didn’t believe in, moaning like a little bitch as Prime held him open obscenely. He was a reformed man. He was an addict. He didn’t think he could go another another day without Prime’s tongue in his ass.
Warm fingers pressed into his hips rubbing and traveling to the ridge of his waist and back. Rick hummed a soft note as Prime brushed his lips against his neck.
“Morning, babe.” His voice was low and husky from disuse, rumbling from the depths of his throat and Rick felt every hair on his neck rise as he shivered from the electricity that crackled down his spine at the sound of Prime’s voice. Rick smiled as he rocked back against Prime’s cock that decided to wake up with keen interest at the morning’s proceedings.
“Sleep well?”
“Better ‘cause you’re here…” More kisses to Rick’s nape and Rick stifled a smile. Sleepy Prime was always so sweet and candid, a rare 5 minute window of relaxing his guard before his regular snark and ego came out.
Rick was hungry to see Prime’s face and turned to face his partner and lover, slinging his leg over his hip hooking them together closer. He couldn’t stop smiling at the way Prime’s hair was sticking up from deep sleep. Their faces were a mirror of each other in every way, down to the way their eyelids were heavy from sleep, hooding a tender look that whispered mine.
But as he studied his face, he still couldn’t suppress the strange sensation he felt at how uncannily alike they were. I mean, they were the same person but they couldn’t be more different as people. But there were some things that reminded Rick that they were the same person, cut from the exact genetic cloth. Pleasure zones were one as well as their shared opinion on wicker furniture (awful). But really, it was the drive for discovery that underscored their relationship— bonding them together deeply as Rick got to know himself intimately.
Rick moved his head a tiny fraction, lips brushing against Prime’s gently.
“Hungry?”
“Hungry for that ass.” Prime grinned wolfishly as he swatted Rick’s ass with a firm open palm.
“Ow!” Rick squirming away, tucking his ass out of reach. “Asshole!”
“You’re so right, babe. Pays to be accurate sometimes, eh? I’m hungry for that asshole.” Prime wiggled his tongue suggestively making exaggerated heart eyes at him as his fingers snaked between Rick’s thighs.
“You’re so corny I’m surprised you’re not originally from the corn universe.”
“Well, you know what corn you’d be from the corn universe?”
“What.”
“Baby corn.” Prime jabbed his fingers into a sensitive spot on Rick’s ribs enjoying the yell of protest and mounting laughter that Prime’s fingers were drawing out of him.
“S-Stop—!“ Rick gasped as he tried to curl away, legs drawn up to his chest as Prime rolled on top, caging him in, “Hah— Stop— haha! I’m— I’m serious, P-Prime!”
“I’m gonna eat your baby corn.” Prime growled into Rick’s ear and the words might as well have been elote for how corny and cheesy that was. Rick burst out laughing, tears of mirth collecting in his eyes as Prime began laughing with him, body shaking over his as they wheezed for oxygen.
“It’s not a baby corn though.” Rick said semi seriously as his laughter died down, leaving him with aching cheeks.
“No, it’s not.” Prime agreed, “We’re the exact same, down to the same half inch. You’re a monster, babe, and I say that with pride.”
Prime dipped his head down and kissed him as his hips rolled against Rick’s, reminding him of his hard want and need.
“Mm… want you…” Rick mumbled against Prime’s lips, licking and sucking on his bottom lip gently. He raised a hand, fingers curling around Prime’s short hair, his fingertips rubbing against warm skin. He heard his twin hum appreciatively, his chest rumbling a little.
The collective bright lights of the stars outside the window spilled in making the edges of Prime’s sharp angles glow. Rick found himself lazily thinking about an invention on how to freeze time as he drank in the moment, trying to commit every detail to memory.
“I got you something.” Prime pulled back, a small blush on his cheeks.
“What is it?”
Rick watched as his twin slid off the bed, admiring the way Prime’s back rippled with effort, highlighted by silvery starlight. The fridge clinked shut and Prime came back holding the necks of two cold Venusian beers and a flat box in the other. He set the box down, glowing with purple neon letters.
“Cheers.” Prime popped the top of a beer with his teeth and handed it to Rick who sat up cross legged to take it.
They both took a long swallow and let out a satisfied, “Ahh…” as the cold beer rasped against their throats refreshingly. It was bitter and a little acidic but left a slight sweet after taste. The drink was best enjoyed as chilled as possible.
Rick balanced his bottle on the pile of books that doubled as Prime’s night stand and pulled the box towards him, extremely curious and tickled by Prime’s reaction of looking away.
“Whoa…” Rick breathed out as he looked inside the box, “Are these… are these planets?” He lifted a small orange and cream coloured sphere that he’d seen before.
“Y-yeah…” Prime cleared his throat, “Actually—um, they’re all the planets we’ve traveled to together. All edible of course.”
“This is so beautiful.” Rick began picking each one up, marveling at the detail and how the gasses seem to move and swirl like their originals.
“Hey— quit touching everything.” Prime grabbed Rick’s hand. “Here.”
He picked up the orange and cream coloured planet between his fingertips.
“Open.” And Rick’s mouth parted obediently at the command.
Prime placed the sphere in his mouth, right on the tip of his tongue and Rick’s mouth instantly flooded with sweet, citrusy flavour. His mouth closed around Prime’s fingers, his tongue barely brushing against the tips as he pulled back.
“Remember this planet? Our first test ride.”
Rick nodded and watched as Prime put his fingers in his mouth, sucking and licking on the tips with a liberal amount of tongue, a sly smile on his face. A bolt of lust zapped his spine and Rick shifted slightly, his cheeks pinkening. He almost forgot about the ball in his mouth and as his teeth crushed the outer layer, his mouth suddenly filled with complex flavor and textures. It was cold, crunchy, soft, sweet, savoury and spicy. He couldn’t recognise the ingredients but the flavour was close to duck a l’orange, some ginger and a spiciness that Rick couldn’t place. It was so much sensory overload that Rick almost forgot where he was and what he was eating until he felt Prime’s fingers stroke his cheek gently.
“Did you like that?”
“It was…” Rick struggled to find the word, “Weird. I’ll— I’ll try another one though.”
Prime burst out laughing.
“Here.” He fed Rick a blue and red planet. “Our first kiss.”
Rick made a low whine in his throat as he remembered the way Prime had leaned in, blue rain soaking into his hair, running down his face and into his collar as he had gripped the back of Rick’s head. The planet that never stopped raining. Everything had been so wet. Rick couldn’t tell what was tongue, lips or cheek as he responded to Prime’s fevered kisses.
Blue raspberry and dark chocolate cake spread across his tongue, filling his mouth with thick and smooth.
Rick swallowed, feeling the dessert planet coat his throat pleasantly. Rick felt his body warm up in a way that had nothing to do with the spices and every way to do with Prime’s thoughtful gift. He really could be so sentimental sometimes. Rick felt his heart slip a little further in love as he watched Prime dodge his gaze, fidgeting a little.
“I love this, thank you.” He said softly, like how one might speak to a spooked cat.
“It’s nothing. Like literally only got this as a favor so— just consider yourself lucky—“
Rick pressed a neon green swirling orb to Prime’s lips.
“This one’s for us.” He leaned in placing his lips on the sphere too, suspending the planet between them. “For when you inspired us to develop portal tech.”
Rick removed his fingers and pressed the green orb into Prime’s mouth— they bit down together, consuming the planet, kissing through the debris and swallowing down chaos. ---- I'm making a prickcest fic collection on AO3! But u guys get to see future chapters first aha <3
Snow monkeys, also called Japanese macaques, are a terrestrial Old World monkey species native to Japan (http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/site/accounts/information/Macaca_fuscata.html.)
They communicate by vocalization. There are six types of vocalizations, including peaceful, defensive, aggressive, and warning vocalizations, which signal their mood (http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/site/accounts/information/Macaca_fuscata.html.)
Snow monkeys often take baths in natural hot springs to keep warm during the winter (https://www.japan.travel/en/itineraries/snow-monkeys-and-hot-springs-in-nagano/.)
They live in social groups and are known for their complex social hierarchies (https://wpsu.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/nat14.sci.lifsci.hierarchy/the-social-hierarchy-of-snow-monkeys/.)
Snow monkeys are omnivores and have a varied diet that includes fruits, leaves, insects, and small vertebrates (https://www.snowmonkeyresorts.com/smr/snowmonkeypark/snow-monkeys-food/.)
Now, let us talk about the technological and consumerist elements to this piece.
The Toshiba laptop. Founded in 1965 in Japan, Toshiba has grown its company worldwide yet employs just 6,600 people today (https://www.toshiba.com/tai/about_us.jsp.)
Electrical outlet and wires. Harvery Hubbell invented the first electrical plug, but it seems unclear as to when our modern-day outlets were normalized in households (https://illumin.usc.edu/a-powerful-history-the-modern-electrical-outlet/.)
Mercedes-Benz. This is the 2002 SL, paired with the slogan "Style. Unlike any other." A fun fact about MB is that the Weeknd paired up with the company to promote their first electric car, the EQC (https://www.carscoops.com/2019/12/mercedes-and-the-weeknd-team-up-for-what-may-be-the-no-1-car-ad-of-the-year/).
The computer. As of today, Lenovo is the largest computer manufacturing company, with ~24% market share of PC vendors (https://www.gartner.com/en/newsroom/press-releases/2023-01-11-gartner-says-worldwide-pc-shipments-declined-28-percent-in-fourth-quarter-of-2022-and-16-percent-for-the-year.)
Domo. He became an icon in American media around 2002. The writer in this TIME article likened him to Harrison Ford, "if Harrison Ford were a small, feral Teletubby" (https://content.time.com/time/subscriber/article/0,33009,1002529,00.html.)
Attendance Prompt:
The Secret Lives of Color - Rosso Corsa
“In honor of their victory their car's original hue became Italy's national racing color and later the one adopted by Enzo Ferrari for his cars: rosso corsa, racing red" (p. 149).
This passage taught me how Ferrari contributed to "racing red" becoming Italy's national racing color. I am fascinated with racing and cars, but I hadn't known the historical significance and cultural influence that went along with Ferrari. The iconic racing red color that many people associate with fast cars all stemmed from him. The influence of Ferrari and his red car is an interesting piece of automotive and art history.
good story as ever from Adam Serwer:
--
There’s an expression reporters use, that you’ve “reported yourself out of a story.” That is, you had a hunch or a tip about something, but when you checked the facts, the story didn’t pan out. Sometimes, though, reporters stick to the narrative they’ve decided on in advance, and they don’t let facts get in the way.
The United Auto Workers union is striking for a better contract. The combination of a tight labor market and President Joe Biden’s pro-labor appointees to the National Labor Relations Board has given workers new leverage, leading workers in writers’ rooms, kitchens, and factories to demand more from their employers. This has been broadly beneficial, because many of the gains made by union workers benefit other workers.
But that didn’t happen. Instead, it was Biden who went to support the striking autoworkers, joining a union picket line—something not even his most pro-union predecessors in the White House had ever done. “You saved the automobile industry back in 2008 and before. You made a lot of sacrifices. You gave up a lot. And the companies were in trouble,” Biden told the striking workers Tuesday. “But now they’re doing incredibly well. And guess what? You should be doing incredibly well too. It’s a simple proposition.”
A president on the picket line, telling workers they deserved to share in the wealth they had helped create, was a genuinely historic moment. Franklin Roosevelt didn’t do this. It’s shocking that Biden did.
But that wasn’t as interesting for many in the political press as the hypothetical story, the one that didn’t happen: a Republican presidential candidate winning over striking autoworkers by supporting their struggle for a better contract. Trump didn’t do that. In fact, Trump, who governed as a viciously anti-union president even by Republican standards, chose to visit a nonunion shop to give a campaign speech in which he said, “I don’t think you’re picketing for the right thing,” and told them it wouldn’t make “a damn bit of difference” what they got in their contract, because the growth in electric-vehicle manufacturing would put them out of work.
Telling striking workers that they should give up trying to get a better deal is not supporting workers or supporting unions; it is textbook union-busting rhetoric that anyone who has ever been in a union or tried to organize one would recognize. In other words, Trump did not go to Michigan to support striking workers at all. He did what cheap rich guys do every day: He told people who work for a living to be afraid of losing what little they have instead of trying to get what they deserve. This is not comparable to, nor is it even in the same galaxy as, supporting workers on a picket line. It is a poignant metaphor for the emptiness of right-wing populism when it comes to supporting workers—a cosplay populism of superficial “working class” aesthetics that ends up backing the bosses instead of the workers.
Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice (Sambucky): “’Tall orange-mango juice with two pumps cream and two pumps syrup, blended with ice and topped with whipped cream for J. ‘Bottom-Shelf-President’ Barnes,’ he called out, slightly less hopefully, in week six.”
With Shadows as with Solid Things (Sambucky): “Sam stared at him for a long moment, and then repeated, emphatically, ‘Bullshit. Oh my God, Barnes, you are a terrible liar.’”
Longing (Sambucky): “He would have known the bay around him in his sleep — the smell of a salt marsh at low tide rushing over him, unmistakable, with his first breath of humid air — and by the time he opened his eyes, he was already prepared to see the Paul and Darlene bobbing serenely in the harbor.”
Out of Order (Stony): “’I’ll tell you what I’m not doing,” Clint replied, waving his hand at the space between Tony and Steve. ‘I’m not doing whatever this is. Good luck finding a conflict mediator, or a marriage counselor, or maybe an exorcist – whatever brave soul can help you get the bad vibes out of this slow-motion train wreck – but in the meantime this candy and I are moving on to less awkward pastures.’”
Three Little Words (Stony): “Now that he had arrived at the compound, however, the whole ‘take a breezy, fourteen-hour trip to double check that Steve’s face was not actually pale with blood loss’ plan was feeling the tiniest bit ill-advised.”
Key Trends in the Biopellet Energy:
Rising Exports to Europe and Asia:
The bio-pellet energy market has experienced increased export-oriented trends, especially in European and Asia markets, which has increased the general demand for sustainable energy solutions. This rise can be attributed to the rising need to adopt green power since many policymakers and companies are aspiring to embrace clean energy sources in place of conventional hydrocarbon resources. Europe has stricter climate targets and has an existing built structure for bioenergy imports large amounts of bio pellets while Asia, being the rising economy and with increasing demand for energy and climate change commitments has imported large amounts of these fuels. This movement supports the global trend that concerns the change towards clean and sustainable energy production and demonstrates how the application and market of bio pellets is becoming more and more important for the international energy sector. For instance, according to the United States Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service, in 2022, Europe’s wood pellet consumption hit a new record of 24.8 million metric tons (MMT) mainly due to increased residential use. In 2022, Europe wood pellet imports totaled 5.89 MMT with a value of USD 1.32 billion. The EU adopted an import ban for wood pellets from Russia in the summer of 2022 has created an opportunity for the transatlantic trade of wood pellets.
Increased Focus on Reduction of Harmful Emissions:
The growing emphasis on decreasing the emission of noxious gases has led to transformations in the bio pellet energy market because concerns for the environment and legal requirements generate the demand for a cleaner type of energy. Bio pellets are gradually becoming popular since the concentrations of pollutants negatively associated with fossil fuels are low. As governments and organizations continue to put in place measures and set emission standards to reduce air pollution and enhance health standards, bio pellets are known to emit lower levels of sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and particulate matter (PM) emissions. This trend is putting pressure on improvements in pellet production processes and the achievement of better technologies to reduce emissions and improve the environmental qualities of bioenergy. Therefore, the effectiveness of the bio pellet industry is inextricably tied to even more noble objectives of fighting bad emissions and creating a better and healthier environment. Likewise, the United Nations Climate Change Global Innovation Hub, launched in November 2021, aims to promote transformative innovations for a low-emission and climate-resilient future through the exchange of ideas and designing climate solutions.
Adoption Patterns Across Key Regions:
The North American biopellet energy industry is incrementing fast, and this is being driven by several stimulants such as the shift to renewable sources of energy, the policies on carbon neutrality from the governments, and lastly the innovation and improvement of the pellet manufacturing technologies. Policies such as the United States Inflation Reduction Act (2022) for renewable energy and Canada’s Clean Fuel Standard policy are forcing the utilities and industrial segments to embrace renewable energy. Moreover, improvements in the process of pelletizing, drying, and compression of the Biopellets have enhanced energy efficiency and reduced the carbon intensity level of the biopellet hence it is now a new competition to fossil fuels. Moreover, improvements in the process of pelletizing, drying, and compression of the biopellets have enhanced energy efficiency and reduced the carbon intensity level of the biopellet hence it is now a new competition to fossil fuels.
The U. S. is also experiencing a growing demand for biopellets within its territory. For example, the country used roughly 5% of total energy consumption derived from biomass due to the growing consumption for utilities and industrial purposes.
The country is one of the top exporters of wood pellets in the worldwide market which is a key factor driving the biopellet energy market. For instance, in July 2024, a report published by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service, the country exported 926,024.1 metric tons of wood pellets in May 2024, increased from 819,341.5 metric tons exported the previous month and 820,057.5 metric tons exported in May 2023. The total export of U. S. wood pellets for the first five months of 2024 was 4.12 million metric tons, as compared to 3.75 million metric tons exported by the U.S. during the same period of 2023.
Roof Solar: Harnessing the Power of Rooftop Solar Energy for a Sustainable Future
Issues of climate change and energy shortages today place a premium on sustainable solutions within governments, businesses, and households. Roof solar energy systems are indeed one of the most impactful ways through which these challenges can be addressed. Not only do they provide an environmentally friendly source of energy, the long-term cost-saving opportunities that both commercial and residential users have at hand is indeed a remarkable advantage.
In this article, we’ll break down how rooftop solar energy works, its significant benefits, and why it should be part of the global movement toward a sustainable future. We’ll follow the PAS (Problem-Agitate-Solution) copywriting framework to build this narrative.
Problem: The rising energy prices and environmental degradation
There is now a great global energy crisis among the most pressing issues of our times. When the costs are increasing so much, more conventional energy such as coal, oil, and gas becomes very expensive and is also at the mercy of market price fluctuations. This makes electricity bills sky-rocket in businesses and homeowners. But the International Energy Agency says that energy prices in most of the world are now more than 30% higher than they were a decade ago and look set to rise yet higher still as fossil fuel reserves shrink.
In India, for example, electricity tariffs have become substantially high. From 2010 to 2020, the tariffs for electricity consumption by industries increase by around 8-10% annually. This has been enormously inconvenient for most industries, putting them into heavy competition to seek alternative sources of more reliable and cheaper forms of energy.
Environmental Impact
The over-reliance on fossil fuels also causes extreme harm to the environment. Carbon emissions from energy sources have proven to contribute to global warming, inconsistent weather patterns, melting ice caps in polar regions, and increased sea levels. The United Nations reports that carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere due to energy use covers 75% of the planet's greenhouse gas emissions.
According to the World Health Organization, 9 in every 10 people around the world breath polluted air, while the WHO standards are exceeded. Fossil fuel-based electricity-generating power plants are amongst the largest contributors to global pollution. Emissions from fossil fuel extraction, processing, and burning greatly affect air quality in cities that hold heavy industrial activities and, directly affect public health through respiratory and other long-term health conditions. These are tough, physical problems with which business people and individuals have to deal each day. More expensive energy and irreversible damage to our planet require immediate answers. The question is: how can a shift toward an affordable, sustainable, and clean energy system be supported?
Agitate: Compound Effects of Ignoring the Problem
Monetary Cost for Households and Enterprises. Ignoring this kind of rising cost of energy impacts not only the electricity bill but the overall financial condition of the household and business. In the case of households, more expensive rates for energy translate directly into less disposable income for other kinds of necessity. This is even a bigger issue in developing countries, where the incomes are relatively small but the needs for energy are tremendous.
Businesses are highly vulnerable to energy price variations. A case study developed by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry in 2019 reports that electricity price increases have led to a fall of up to 15-20% in profit levels for most Indian manufacturing firms. That leaves little scope to spend upon such initiatives since energy takes the lion's share of the companies' budget.
Environmental Effects From a purely environmental perspective, it is disastrous to maintain the scenario of dependence on fossil fuel. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warned that if carbon emissions continue at their current level, the Earth would witness a temperature rise of over 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2030. That could raise the chance of more frequent instances of natural calamities-from droughts to floods-with agriculture and housing under threat and human survival overall under question.
Energy-intensive companies are also under regulatory pressure due to strict environmental law by governments. Wherever targets for carbon emissions reduction are not met, they face fines or penalties, or even reputational risks if the same becomes known to the regulators, and that too in geographies where consumer awareness of climate change is rising.
If the trend continues uninterrupted, businesses and households will soon be placed in positions ever-more clearly perilously strained financially and contributing to the ongoing destruction of the planet.
The Rise of Roof Solar: A Sustainable Alternative
So, how do we combat the dual challenge of rising energy costs and environmental degradation? The answer lies in solar energy, particularly roof solar solutions. Roof solar systems allow homeowners and businesses to generate their own electricity using the power of the sun. By tapping into this abundant and renewable energy source, users can reduce their dependency on traditional power grids, lowering energy costs and minimizing environmental impact.
Rooftop solar energy has gained popularity in recent years, with countries like India, China, the United States, and Germany leading the adoption race. According to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in India, the country has set an ambitious target of installing 100 GW of solar power by 2022. Much of this growth will come from rooftop solar systems.
A case study conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay demonstrated that installing a 5 kW roof solar system on a typical residential building in Mumbai could offset nearly 60% of the household's electricity needs. Over a 25-year lifespan, this leads to savings of over INR 9 lakhs ($12,000) in electricity costs.
How Roof Solar Works
A roof solar system typically consists of solar panels, an inverter, and a storage system (like a battery). The panels are installed on the rooftop and capture sunlight, converting it into direct current (DC) electricity. The inverter then transforms this DC electricity into alternating current (AC), which can be used to power homes or businesses.
There are two main types of rooftop solar systems:
On-grid systems – These are connected to the public electricity grid, meaning that any excess electricity generated can be fed back into the grid, earning credits or payments through a process known as net metering.
Off-grid systems – These systems are not connected to the public grid and typically include battery storage to ensure that power is available even when the sun is not shining.
Financial Savings
One of the biggest advantages of installing a roof solar system is the long-term financial savings. While the initial installation cost can be substantial, solar energy systems typically pay for themselves within 5-7 years, depending on the system size and energy consumption.
In countries like India, the government offers subsidies and tax incentives for installing rooftop solar. The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme provides up to 30% of the benchmark installation cost as a subsidy for residential and commercial users. This dramatically reduces the upfront cost, making solar energy more accessible.
A recent case study by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) showcased a commercial business in Pune that installed a 100 kW rooftop solar system. Within 6 years, the business saved nearly INR 50 lakhs ($67,000) in electricity costs. Moreover, they reduced their carbon footprint by over 80 tons annually, highlighting how roof solar can provide both economic and environmental benefits.
Environmental Impact
Switching to roof solar energy has a profound impact on the environment. According to a report by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), for every 1 kW of solar energy installed, approximately 1.4 tons of carbon dioxide are offset annually. This is equivalent to planting about 25 trees per year.
With India’s growing energy demand, adopting roof solar systems across urban and rural areas could lead to a significant reduction in the country's overall carbon emissions. A 2020 study by Greenpeace India revealed that if just 10% of Indian households installed rooftop solar systems, it could offset over 275 million tons of CO2 emissions annually.
Enhancing Grid Stability
In many parts of the world, especially in rural or remote areas, electricity supply can be unreliable, with frequent power cuts. Roof solar systems, especially when combined with energy storage solutions, can provide a stable and uninterrupted power supply. For businesses that rely on continuous operations, such as manufacturing units or IT firms, solar energy can help ensure productivity is not affected by grid failures.
One of the key advantages of roof solar systems is that they can reduce the overall load on national power grids. As more households and businesses generate their own electricity, demand on the public grid decreases. This allows for more stable energy distribution and helps avoid blackouts during periods of high demand.
Future of Roof Solar Energy
Rooftop solar systems are a vital component of the world's transition to sustainable energy. Put simply, they offer concrete answers to the ills of soaring energy prices, environmental degradation, and unpredictable power grids. households and businesses can get reliable energy supply at lower costs and create a healthier planet by tapping into the power of the sun.
Data-driven case studies show that solar power is not an ideal for tomorrow but a present solution. Government subsidies as well as increasing demand for clean energy are going to make roof solar be at the center in building a clean future.
Whether you’re looking to save on your energy bills
What are some common misconceptions about rooftop solar?
Several misconceptions surround rooftop solar energy that make it unattractive for consideration by people. Here is the clarifying of the most common ones:
Rooftop Solar is Too Costly Myth: Most people believe it is too expensive to install rooftop solar panels. Reality: The installation cost is indeed high upfront, but the long-term savings on electricity bills do normally outweigh the costs incurred. In addition, a host of incentives, tax credits, and financing options also make solar possible and affordable. For example, in the United States, there is a federal solar tax credit where homeowners can deduct a part of installation costs from their taxes.
2. Solar Panels Does Not Work In Cloudy Weather And Cold Countries
Myth: Solar panels don't work well in areas with less sunlight or higher temperatures. Reality: Solar panels still generate electricity on cloudy days and in cold climates. As the sun's radiation is based on light rather than heat, solar panels can function. Further, it is indeed proved that such panels are more efficient in cool temperatures. Too much heat can decrease efficiency.
3. Rooftop Solar Requires a Lot of Maintenance
Myth: Solar panels require constant maintenance and cleaning. Reality: Modern solar panels are low maintenance. They are supplied with no moving parts and withstand all kinds of weather. They may require a few good cleanings and an occasional inspection to keep them operating at peak levels.
4. Solar Panels Will Damage My Roof
Myths: It will damage the roofing structure when installing solar panels. Reality: Solar panels can protect and preserve the roof when installed by professionals. They protect the roof from elements, which may increase the lifespan of the roof. Additionally, most of these installations come with warranties that will cover any damage incurred.
Rooftop Solar is Only for Homeowners Misconception: Rooftop solar can only be used by a house owner. Reality: Even tenants or residents of an apartment complex can benefit from solar power through community solar programs. Many people sharing the benefits of one single installation can make solar accessible to people.
6. Solar Energy Storage is Inefficient and Expensive
Myth: Storage of solar energy to use during cloudy days is not feasible. Reality: Researches into battery technology have helped make energy storage more efficient and cheaper. There are batteries, such as the Tesla Powerwall, where unused daylight may be stored for later use during the night or under clouded skies.
Rooftop Solar is an Aesthetically Unpleasant Investment Misconception: Solar panels will make my house look ugly.
Reality: Latest thin-film solar panels come in smooth designs that can be incorporated with the roof. More importantly, building-integrated photovoltaics offer options for integrating solar cells into building materials without removing the aesthetic value of the property.
Solar Panels Have a Short Lifespan
Wrong belief: Solar panels should be replaced more often.
Reality: Most photovoltaic solar panels come with warranties that last for 20 to 25 years, but typically will last longer, if maintained. Their efficiency will decrease incrementally, but they will continue producing electricity for many years.
9. Rooftop Solar is Not Very Efficient Debunking :
Solar panels do not generate enough energy to be useful. Reality is that solar technology has advanced, and modern panels are highly efficient. Depending on the system size and location, rooftop solar can generate a significant portion of a household's energy, sometimes producing excess energy that can be sold back to the grid.
10. Sun Energy Is Not Reliable : The sun is too intermittent an energy source to be dependable for power.
Despite the fluctuation that comes with production in solar energy, combining it with energy storage solutions and integrated incorporation into the grid only promises power. Reliability and stability of solar systems have been proven in many regions where this application is highly embraced. By addressing these misconceptions, we can better understand the true potential and benefits of rooftop solar energy. It's a powerful step towards a sustainable and energy-independent future. If you have any more questions or need further clarification, feel free to ask!
