Star Crossed and Damned Chapter IV.

She hated herself; she should have shot Tessa dead on the forehead when she found it, on the depths of the abandoned and infested laboratory; it laid into a sealed suitcase which a dead scientist had chained to their wrist. She begged the Counter Measure for Solver was little more than a failed prototype, yet as always, ever since Cyn was ripped from her hands and buried into that sickening pile of ‘discarded’ drones… Life didn’t took even the slightest mercy with her wants; an special software, to be ingrained into their systems; with a coding as variable as the one it was competing with. Just as dreaded, by all accounts: a controllable Solver only intended to destroy the original, not a creator, an architect, but a deconstruct submitted to the company orders...

J stabbed multiple times as her optics shot open against her current victim; a copy, a miserable copy of V, back during the Manor Incident, it squirmed as she kept rendering her Core into scrap. The vicious attack both driven by the need to defend herself and the… rising anxiety at the memory, the stress of the battle was not helping, the squad-leader felt weak, helpless, once more, as the struggle came to a halt as the copy stopped struggling as a puddle of oil started to form below it, and as J stood and kept moving by perhaps little more than a hollow desire to make this end, the agony and the complete blindness she had been condemned to.

The remembrance of the installation of the Software into her systems, as quick and painless like the others, supposedly just a measure through which they couldn’t be once again controlled like puppets, but as the dreams overtook her later, as they decided to rest into Tessa’s encampment not too far from the refinery which had served as facade for C.F’s labs, it soon became obvious, dreadfully obvious, that thefinal measure, the cure, against the Solver had done far- far more than just closing a backdoor on her code.

I think one of the main reasons I find most MD fanon ships boring is that most of them are just a "nuzi but now they're other characters" which makes them all ooc, even though, come on, these characters have so much personality and their dynamics have so much potential in the canon that everyone should limit themselves to conventionally happy couples.

Although I'm not a big fan of Jessa, Juzi, EldritchTerrors and even Envy, I think it's cool how in most of the content I've seen, the characters have their own dynamics and peculiarities and respect their characters in the canon to some extent (in the case of Envy it's much rarer but I love it when I find angst in V's POV or creative stories from when they were in the mansion).

Idk I think all of this is just a stupid criterion on my part, in the end, do what you want lol

I do wanna ask: thoughts on eldritchterrors (j x Cyn)?

i dont vibe with it at all

admittedly these days i'm pretty grouchy about any other ship that involves j and uzi, but i find in my head, j and cyn have no chemistry. you can contrast this with cynzi, or of course juzi, and the difference is while both of those ships can be toxic, they're toxic within overlapping value systems — there's a potential for rivalry, respect, begruding appreciation.

in either of those other ships, the two of them are similar enough to get under each other's skin. an uncanny valley of just different enough that they can't stand it. but with j and cyn, they're different flat out. they don't challenge each other's value systems; they fit right in as the very thing the other despises and strives not to be

as per my previous advocacy of juzicyn, this does suggest that uzi could be the glue that makes makes the relationship work. not just because they'd be forced into proximity, but because if they share an fascination with uzi, then they finally share something and now chemistry is on the table

but actually, i lied. i can see an angle for chemistry between them even without bringing uzi into the question — there was a j/cyn oneshot i liked that proposed that the two of them could bond over a shared love of art.

as for unpopular opinions, this time i think i actually have one and it's definitely not going over well with my followers

cynessa/j is the worst of j/cyn and jessa combined. all of the lack of chemistry of j/cyn, all of the power dynamics and relationship imbalance of jessa (but unambiguously bad, now!). the only advantage it has over j/cyn is there's actual reason for it to happen and the advantage it has over jessa is that it involves an interesting character

the fixation so many people have with cynessa angst is something i do not get, and it's the first time i've ever understood the impulse other people have to tell people to stop having fun
