Elain Archeron Week, Day 1: Visions
Tumblr media
I've theorised before about how I think Elain's powers - specifically her Sight, but possibly other aspects of her magic, too - might work, with regards to her murky realm/the Void, the effects of light and even magical medicinals (could witchberries play a part instead of bloodbane?) so today I want to talk a little about why I think having such a useful power could be so meaningful for Elain.
ACOSF suggested that Elain was raised by Mama Archeron to have no independent thought; no dreams of her own, no goals bigger than her garden. She was to be the family's pawn on the marriage mart in their quest for power. Valued for her looks alone, not for what she could do.
Elain is pleasant to look at, her mother had once mused while Nesta sat beside her dressing table, a servant silently brushing her mother’s gold-brown hair, but she has no ambition. She does not dream beyond her garden and pretty clothes. She will be an asset on the marriage market for us one day, if that beauty holds, but it will be our own maneuverings, Nesta, not hers, that win us an advantageous match. Nesta had been twelve at the time. Elain barely eleven. She’d absorbed every word of her mother’s scheming, plans for futures that had never come to pass. - ACOSF, chapter 17
And then Azriel said this...
But Azriel asked softly, taking a single step over the threshold and into the sitting room, “What other?” Elain’s brows twitched toward each other. “The queen—with the feathers of flame.” The shadowsinger angled his head. Lucien murmured to me, eye still fixed on Elain, “Should we—does she need …?” “She doesn’t need anything,” Azriel answered without so much as looking at Lucien. Elain was staring at the spymaster now—unblinkingly. “We’re the ones who need …” Azriel trailed off. “A seer,” he said, more to himself than us. “The Cauldron made you a seer.” - ACOWAR, chapter 32
Besides the fact that Sight must be an incredibly difficult power to navigate at the best of times, I will always wonder how much it meant to Elain to hear she was needed for a skill. Something she could work at and contribute that went beyond the looks she was born with. Something that could - and did - allow her to prove her mother wrong when her own "maneuverings" saved lives at the end of ACOWAR.
Even before Elain understood what was happening, while she was still lost in her murky realm, she tried to use her visions to warn/help her family. One of her biggest contributions being her untrained doe eyes peering across the world, leading Feyre to the Suriel in ACOWAR, then of course everything that followed when she ignored orders to return to camp and ended up killing the King of Hybern and saving Nesta and Cassian, and massively weakening Hybern's army.
Our trembling fawn has a backbone of steel, I can't wait for her to shine and grow in her own book. 🌿

Elain Archeron - The Seer of the Night Court
@elainarcheronweek Day 1 Visions
“Seer. The word clanged through me. She’d known. She’d warned Nesta about the Ravens. And in the chaos of the attack, that little realization had slipped from me. Slipped from me as reality and dream slipped and entwined for Elain. Seer.”

@elainarcheronweek | Day 5: Connections
Elain and Azriel have the potential to be one of the best romances in the ACOTAR series. From the forbidden aspect to the sensual touches they have already given each other, they are set up to be the best kind of slow burn and I am here for it. I cannot wait to see their relationship develop in Elain’s book. 💐💖

happy @elainarcheronweek day 1: visions 🌟
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lots of little girls dream about what their wedding will look like. Elain always dreamt about hers, but her dreams were different. They came true.
“Join them together,” Gwyn instructed. “To see if you are carranam.” Elain twisted her wrist, settling her palm over Azriel’s, letting their blood mix together. Azriel sucked in a breath and Elain felt an electric tingling in her fingertips and toes. Carranam. A different sort of bond—not a mating bond. His power twisted and danced with hers, sharp blues against golden light. A smile wound its way to Elain’s face. She could feel the depth of his power—almost bottomless—and could feel a vision tugging at her. She gave into it, still tasting the cloying sweetness of the memory of her childhood vision. Elain was always meant to be here with Azriel. No matter what paths their lives took, they would always end up here.

Young
Elain Archeron
For @elainarcheronweek
Elain Week 2024 Masterlist
Day 7: Growth
Summary: Elain gets a chance to talk to her younger self after she loses herself to her magic
Cw: None
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The air around her hummed with energy, tingling against her skin as if it were alive. Elain sighed softly, feeling the familiar sensation that always accompanied her moments of clarity. It was a strange, almost euphoric rush of knowledge and insight that left her breathless every time.
Elain was lost, wandering through her visions. She had been here before, but each time, it felt different. Her hands shook slightly as she clutched the ancient tome, its pages filled with mysterious symbols that seemed to flicker and dance.
The room before Elain shimmered, warping and distorting as if reality itself was bending to accommodate her request. She felt a shiver run down her spine as the air seemed to thicken, becoming harder to breathe. The colors around her grew more vibrant, the edges blurring until she could no longer discern where one ended and another began.
A soft glow emanated from the centre of the swirling vortex, coalescing into the form of a young girl with large, curious eyes that mirrored Elain's own. Her hair was darker, still holding onto the faint wisps of black that would eventually fade to a rich chestnut brown. The girl wore a simple white dress, its hem brushing against the floor, and looked up at Elain with discomfort etched across her delicate features.
"Mother?" The child asked, her voice tinged with uncertainty. "Why do I have to wear this?"
The voice she distinctly remembered as her mother's spoke from behind her, "Because Elain, you don't compete with Nesta, she's bolder, and has a much better chance with the Lord that you. You will only creat a distraction."
Elain watched as the ghostly image of her younger self stared back at her with wide, innocent eyes. Her heart clenched painfully at the sight of her reflection, feeling a pang of longing for those simpler times when life had been uncomplicated by grief and responsibility. The words echoing through the ethereal void were familiar - harsh reminders of how she'd been pushed aside so that Nesta could take center stage.
The girl tugged at the hem of her dress, clearly uncomfortable in such formal attire. "But why? I just want to dance," she pleaded softly, looking over at Elain with puppy-dog eyes full of unshed tears.
"You know you're not meant for this kind of life, Nesta is better than yo-"
"Hey, look at me," Elain knelt down in front of her younger self, "Look at me... Nothing she says matters."
Elain took a deep breath, steadying herself as she knelt down to meet the gaze of her younger self. There was something about seeing herself reflected back in those innocent eyes that brought forth a surge of determination within her. Despite everything she had endured since then, despite every hardship thrown at her, here she stood – still fighting for what mattered most.
"Listen to me," Elain said firmly but gently, trying to project an aura of confidence and strength that would resonate with the younger version of herself. "Nothing she says matters anymore because it's not true."
She reached out a hand towards the younger Elain who hesitantly placed hers into hers. A sense of warmth enveloped them both as they touched; it felt like electricity coursing through their veins - tangible proof that they shared something profound beyond mere genetics or biology.
"Who are you?" The young girl tilted her head.
Elain smiled, "I'm you, sweetheart..."
"I'm you…" Elain repeated softly, marvelling at how comforting those words sounded when spoken aloud. She felt an overwhelming sense of peace wash over her as she held onto the small hand of her younger self, feeling the delicate bones beneath her fingers.
Her heart swelled with pride and love for this little girl who carried within her the potential for greatness. It pained Elain to think about how much pain and suffering lay ahead for this precious soul, all because destiny had deemed it necessary to be the female she was now.
"But why am I wearing this stupid dress?" The child interrupted Elain's thoughts with a frown pulling at her lips.
Elain's sigh carried a hint of melancholy as she gazed down at the ornate gown adorning her younger self. The intricate embroidery and fine silk fabric were a testament to the wealth and status of the house. Still, to Elain, they represented confinement and restriction, a constant reminder of the expectations placed upon her. And the fancy thing was impractical to be gardening in.
"It's not a stupid dress, sweetie," she corrected gently, "It's just not made for you." Elain's thumb brushed tenderly over the girl's knuckles, seeking to impart wisdom and reassurance. "This life isn't yours. You were meant for so much more than being a pawn in someone else's game." As she spoke, Elain felt the weight of her own experiences settling upon her shoulders once more.
"Why do you have pointy ears?" She asked surprised, her eyes trailing the Faerie ears her future self had.
Elain chuckled softly, finding solace in the simplicity of her younger self's curiosity. The innocence reflected in those big doe-eyes was something she cherished deeply - it reminded her of who she used to be before fate had dealt its cruel hands over and over again.
"I've got pointy ears," Elain said proudly, pushing back strands of hair from her face to reveal the pair of elegant fae ears peeking out from underneath. "That's because we become High Fae."
Despite the gravity of their situation, there was something undeniably charming about watching awe spark in those bright eyes as they gazed upon Elain's pointed Fae ears for the first time. It warmed Elain's heart to see how fascinated this version of herself was by even such a mundane detail to her now. "Do you want to touch them?"
"Yeah..." The little Elain moved to grab the ears, gently feeling them, then she asked, "Laine, do we become prettier than Nesta? Do we get to dance with a Lord?"
"We don't compete with Nesta or Feyre for mother treating us wrong anymore. We stopped feeling small too. We stopped feeling small and insignificant because we realized that our worth wasn't defined by others." Elain sighed, nuzzling her face into her younger hands, she had long let go of the silent contempt their mother had put in her for Nesta, always comparing them and making Nesta be on top, of how she was nothing, could do nothing while Feyre was their sole provider, how she amounted to nothing, she had stuck by Nesta because she delivered all the verbal blows, they had long apologized and worked to fix everything, even if there were times she wondered how she could've been better. "And yes, we go get to dance with plenty Lords."
As Elain looked into the soft brown eyes of her younger self, she heard a voice behind her, "Elain! Elain!"
Elain gasped awake, she looked around the bright room, blinking her focus and her legs were on Nesta's lap, her sister was holding onto her hands in a death grip while Feyre held her shoulders. Before she could say anything Nesta and Feyre hugged her tightly.
"Feyre?" Elain stood up, and as she did, her younger self disappeared. "Is that you?"
"Elain come with me," Elain felt as if she was being dragged through her mind, Feyre's daemati abilities, Elain let her.
"What... What happened?" Elain asked, a little lightheaded.
"Oh that bitch," Nesta swore as she looked over Elain, "That witch! She gave you this poison..."
"I don't... Don't remember..." Elain slumped back into Feyre's arms.
"Rhys said it was your powers that led you to a hut in Illyria to a witch, she was seeking you out for some reason." Feyre said softly, massaging Elain's shoulders, "The poison trapped you into your own mind, making you halucinate."
"Are you hurt?" Nesta asked, holding onto her hands a little softer.
Elain smiled softly, "Not really... It was nice... Like really nice... I liked it." She leaned back on Feyre and Nesta rested her head on her shoulders, both the sisters holding onto their middle one tightly.

Elain Archeron Week 2024: Growth
Elain in ACOSF is ready to search for the trove and help her family, she isn’t trembling or afraid anymore, and I’m so ready for her book and seeing if she wields the trove-
I think each trove item represents each sister in some way, with the Harp for Elain(Seer, foresight, time) and the photo ref I used for this instantly made me think of her!
I thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the lovely Elain Archeron Week contributions these past few days from everyone! I’m so glad that there are others out there who connected with Elain’s character like I did.
I’ll forever be impatiently waiting for her book. ✨🌸

Day Three: Strength
@elainarcheronweek-main @elainarcheronweek
“I don’t know how to look,” Elain mumbled. “You can try.” I should have asked Amren to train her, too. But Elain studied me, the map, then nodded. She had no mental shields, no barriers. The gates to her mind … Solid iron, covered in vines of flowers—or it would have been. The blossoms were all sealed, sleeping buds tucked into tangles of leaves and thorns. I took a step beyond them, just into the antechamber of her mind, and planted the image of the Suriel there, trying to infuse it with safety—the truth that it looked terrifying, but had not harmed me. Still, Elain shuddered when I pulled out. “Why?” “It has answers I need. Immediately.” Or else we might not have much of an army left to fight that entire Hybern host once I located it. Elain again glanced at the map. At me. Then closed her eyes. Her eyes shifted beneath her lids, the skin so delicate and colorless that the blue veins beneath were like small streams. “It moves …,” she whispered. “It moves through the world like … like the breath of the western wind.” “Where is it headed?” Her finger lifted, hovering over the map, the courts. Slowly, she set it down. “There,” she breathed. “It is going there. Now.”
I still feel that one of Elain's more overlooked strengths was when she helped Feyre track down the Suriel, despite still recovering and trying to make sense of her new world, powers, and surroundings—all in the midst of a battle.
Elain has always wanted to help, but she often seemed to lack the guidance or confidence to do so. She started out the series as someone who asked Feyre to clean the doe, but she eventually became someone who wanted to search for the Trove, understanding that Nesta might not be in the best mental space to do so.
It takes a lot of strength to recognize that being in a comfortable position is nice, but also to know that there is more to offer and more to be done. Elain is in a place where she wants to be more useful, but she seems stuck where she is. Rhys recognizes that Elain may never have had the chance to be more confrontational or to fully show what she is capable of.
But maybe, with time and safety, we could see a different kind of strength manifest in her—one that doesn’t require weapons or cruelty.

Elain Archeron Week, Day 5: Connections
Tumblr media
One of Elain's love languages is definitely gift giving (in addition to acts of service), so modern AU Elain would absolutely message "gift" her loved ones memes and reels because they remind her of her favourite people.
Nesta gets random posts about her favourite artists, but especially the Taylor Swift eras baked goods IG posts that act like a bridge between their two very different selves. Would she like Elain to bake her eras cookies? She'll have them ready by family dinner next week.
Feyre would get posts about cool art techniques, anti AI posts, and a smattering of reels about parenting a baby or toddler. Elain sent her the reel of someone "ecoprinting" a baby onesie and promised to make one that doesn't look like a baby 💩 on it.
Elain has a group chat with Nuala and Cerridwen, in which they share baking reels (hot guys baking with their dogs "helping" are a regular occurrence) and information about the properties of medicinal plants and how to prepare them are not far behind.
Cassian gets reels of stupid pranks that go too far with a warning that Nesta absolutely would NOT appreciate it. She and Rhys share political posts and memes, and Azriel receives posts with people doing parkour, links to podcasts about famous murder mysteries, or National Geographic posts with vistas of stunning, sunny mountains and lakes.
Mor loves haute couture, so gets clips of runway shows. Vassa is an enigma, but occasionally Elain will see a reel with a joke she'll really appreciate, and Lucien gets posts ranting about the effects of logging old growth forests on climate change.
It's clear Elain pays attention to her loved ones, and this is just one small way in which she would show them she saw and cared for them day to day.

Elain Archeron Week
@elainarcheronweek
Day 3: Strength
One of the things I love the most about Elain is her “quiet” courage, and her capacity to show strength when people least expect it.
When she was still human, we saw her being willing to help Feyre and Rhys. She convinced Nesta to open their house so Feyre, Rhys, and Mor could meet with the Human Queens, even when she knew the risks, especially to her upcoming wedding. Then, she volunteered to use her charm to send the servants away.
Once she became Fae, she used her inner strength to survive when she was overwhelmed by her visions and heightened senses, and no one knew what was happening to her. When she felt more lonely than ever and was grieving her human life, that inner strength allowed her to find the light at the end of the tunnel. It allowed her to make new friends, find joy in new (and old) activities, and overall feel excited about her new life.

@elainarcheronweek | Day 7: Growth
Elain has been through so much and already grown a lot behind the scenes to overcome her trauma. But one thing I look forward to reading is her growing confidence and standing up for herself. She has this interesting plot where she has to learn to voice and fight for what she wants, whether that’s being a part of the decisions made by the Inner Circle or who she gets to love. Elain’s choice is the central point for book and I cannot wait to see her blossom into this strong, confident female. 💐💖
