Hi Tumblr! I'm Lyla, a US-based linguistics major and J-idol fanatic ☆

I created this blog specifically to practice my translation skills as well as to hopefully introduce other English speakers to some lesser-known idol groups! My dream job is to become an interpreter and/or translator; I've been learning Japanese for 11 years and Spanish for 10 (writing that feels so unreal)!! However, textbooks can really only go so far and I have many hurdles in my language learning journey to overcome. That being said, as I'm still learning, please don't hesitate to let me know if anything is inaccurate!

Now, it's time for the fun part: Getting to know my favorite idols!

[Interview with Eimi Naruse - Hikaru Hoshina / Cure Star] ~~~ Q: What was your reaction when you learned that you got the role in the Pretty Cure series?

►I thought I was dreaming when I was selected to audition! Even if I was not chosen for a role, I was already happy to be able to discover the script and the characters! When I received the results of the audition, I was surprised to see that I had been selected for the lead role! As an idol, my job is above all to make people happy, but this news made me so happy that I did not know what to think. Even now, I have the impression of living a waking dream! I have always followed the Pretty Cure and my love for the series puts me under pressure to play my role. I will do everything to try to share my happiness with all those who, like me, love the Pretty Cure and I will apply myself to become a dazzling Pretty Cure!

Q: What are the qualities of the heroine Cure Star (Hikaru Hoshina)?

►Hikaru Hoshina, Cure Star, is a dazzling girl who believes in the power of her imagination. She will stop at nothing when she has an idea in mind! She is passionate, maybe even a little too much, but I find her very endearing! I love playing this role and I hope that I will be able to transform Cure Star into a superheroine that everyone loves!

Q: What are the qualities of the Pretty Cure series for you?

►I love everything in the series, but if I had to choose one thing, it would be the scenes of transformation! After, there are also the scenes of the attacks and also all the magic objects! Each episode introduces novelties! I really like the story! Girls fight to save the world in various places and pursue their dreams with their friends! We can see the characters develop a touching friendship, the credits are beautiful and the music is catchy, the hairstyles and costumes are too beautiful, each girl has a style all its own and many other things! All the Pretty Cures that appeared in the series are admirable heroines, but we must not forget that it is primarily simple girls who have as many qualities as defects. Following their adventures, they are already a part of our lives! The franchise Pretty Cure aims to give us happiness and a good dose of courage. For me, each new series made me live new emotions! I was under the spell of the strength of the Pretty Cure Max Heart! The Splash Star's friendship moved me and I loved the originality of the bad guys! Pretty Cure 5 made me dream and their relationship with boys made my heart beat more than once! Fresh's story marked me and I understood how important friendship can be! I loved the world of HeartCatch and Marine was by far my favorite! I admired the haircut and style of the Pretty Cure Suite and had a big smile every time I saw them fighting! Smile was exciting and they were all adorable! Mana was my model to follow in DokiDoki! and her difficult relationship with Regina touched me a lot! I loved the style and humor of HappinessCharge, I laughed and cried with Megumi! I learned to follow my dreams by being beautiful, sweet and determined with Go! Princess (and Kirara is the prettiest lol)! MahoGirls reminded me of the importance of the family and the story was not without humor (on the other hand, I cried a lot at the last two episodes)! In Fashion, I learned that we all have unique qualities that must be respected and the transformations were wonderful! With Hug, I received the encouragement of Hana who pushed me to want to realize my dreams! I could talk about it for hours ... lol!

Q: Do you have a message for the public?

►As a true fan of Pretty Cure, I absolutely want to play my role as best as I can to become a Pretty Cure of which I can be proud!

I hope to live with you every week of dazzling adventures!

I can’t believe I forgot that でんぱ組.inc the idol group that Eimi(Cure Stars VA) is apart of did a music video this year that had the idols go to a alien plant...

I mean they have done a song before where they talk about a alien, but they never went to space in that music video.

Eitaso from Dempagumi : rainbowredwoodrose //

I was initially drawn to Eitaso because of the color palette of her design. Eitaso is the nickname of Eimi Naruse who is part of the idol group Dempagumi inc which did a crossover with the game Phantom of the Kill. Each member got turned into a character in the game. I really like all of the member’s designs but Eitaso personality most reflected mine plus her outfit had that magical girl vibe to it so I went with her.

The process was very tedious which involve lots of pattern making, mock ups, mess ups, and some injuries. I think the hardest part was trying to figure out how to get certain parts to defy gravity and to not lose my patience with all the petals on the skirt.

I knew people at Momocon wouldn’t know who I was but they were really excited when they saw me. I was pleasantly surprised at how many people wanted to take my picture even though they didn’t know who I was. A lot of people thought I was from Sailor Moon or Cardcaptor Sakura, though."
