[id: two hannukah themed sketches featuring the main trio from danny phantom.
in the first, the camera is outside a window, looking into a cozy living room with the fireplace roaring. several menorahs lay on the windowsill. closer to the viewer, tucker holds a shamash and waves his hand erratically; sam laughs at him. an arrow declares that he's "on fire". further down the windowsill, danny floats in phantom form, lighting his menorah with ectoplasmic fire.
in the second, sam and danny sit on the floor, playing dreidel. tucker sits in a chair, watching them, eating a sufganiyah. there's a large pile of gelt in the pot, while sam and danny only have a couple pieces. a plate of sufganiyot and latkes sits next to danny. sam grins, ג (gimel) announcing her as the winner. danny looks at her, deadpan. end id]
happy hannukah!

Introducing a new Danny Phantom Hanukkah event, Eight Ecto Nights!
What: An eight day Danny Phantom prompt calendar celebrating Hanukkah! See here for what's Hanukkah?
When: Thursday December 7- Thursday December 14, the span of Hanukkah*
Where: Use the tag #eight ecto nights 2023, posts will be reblogged to this blog
Rules: • You do not have to be Jewish to participate, all are encouraged! If you're concerned about doing something respectfully, feel free to reach out to me, I'm always available to answer questions. • Headcanons welcome! This event is not restricted to the show's few canonically Jewish characters. However, there is no erasing the Jewishness of those characters ○ ie you can make a headcanon/au where Paulina's family is Jewish, but not one where Sam's isn't ○ The canonically Jewish characters are the Mansons: Sam, her parents Jeremy and Pamela, her grandmother Ida, and her presumably passed great-grandfather Izzy • Angst and crossovers both allowed, but must be tagged properly. If you have questions about tagging guidelines, please reach out ○ If you are not Jewish, I would advise caution when considering telling a story about the experience or effects of antisemitism
You do not have to do all eight, do whichever and however many speak to you! However, if you do complete all eight nights, you will receive a small prize of art or a short ficlet!
The Prompts: 1) Fire - Thursday Dec 7 2) Laughter - Friday Dec 8 3) Fried Foods - Saturday Dec 9 4) Giving - Sunday Dec 10 5) Community - Monday Dec 11 6) Games - Tuesday Dec 12 7) Identity - Wednesday Dec 13 8) Light - Thursday Dec 14
With special thanks to @jus-a-lil-mouse and @glow-and-vamp for helping me put this event together, y'all are the real mvps
*technically it's nightfall of the 7th through nightfall of the 15th, but these are the days we light hanukkias at night, so for simplicity, the 7th-14th is when we're holding this event!

Touch the stars
Danny phantom/ treasure planet ficlet that i might or might not actually write.
Daniel James Fenton was five years old when the human race discovered that they were not alone in their universe. To that little kid who wanted nothing more than to touch the stars, that news was everything. And with the hours upon hours of news coverage, the pages upon pages that came hot off the press only to be snatched up almost instantly, with all the buzz and the chatter and the talks and the seminars and the countless online threads, it felt like that news was everything to the whole world. The whole world except the Doctors Fenton.
The two promising ecto-scientists had just begun work on their newest project, their magnum opus: the ghost portal. They may as well have been deaf to the world. They certainly were to their own children.
Eight years later, Earth had finally joined the Intergalactic Union. They had trade, they had embassies, their knowledge of the universe was expanding with every second. Danny wanted to know all of it. He dragged his friends Sam and Tucker to every conference he could bribe his sister to drive them to. He hunted down every morsel of new information. Sam was more interested in homeworld politics and activism. Tucker though, was practically salivating at all the new tech.
His parents were still working on that portal, seemingly anawares to just how much the world around them was changing.
Danny was fourteen when he died.
He was fourteen when that portal opened on top of him and thrust the weight of two realms upon that starry eyed boy who had glow in the dark stars mapping the night sky on his bedroom ceiling. A crushing responsibility tying down that poor boy who wanted nothing more than to touch the stars.
His parents didn't notice at first. They were too ecstatic that their invention actually worked to ask questions. So things were... complicated for a few years. Danny became the city's protector, looking after ghosts and human alike. Afterall, what was he meant to do when he had stakes in both camps.
The work was thankless and dangerous. His parents didnt know it was their son they were shooting at, so he couldn't blame them. Valerie didn't know it was her boyfriend she was hunting. He couldn't blame her either. Still.
He was beaten up and smacked around on the daily, meanwhile, his once shining report card suffered for the late nights and missed classes. Sam and Tucker did what they could, but the only person he could truley rely on was his sister.
She told him to do what was best for him. What did he want?
Sometimes, on quiet nights, Danny would fly above the clouds, above all the pain and stress, and he would watch the sky. Even after it all, his core would still call out for those stars.
Humans weren't exactly popular out there. They had earned a reputation for being to curious for their own good and stubborn to boot. Work was hard to find out there. He still wanted to try. His grades would never get him a research position, and definitely not one in politics. But, despite their absence, Danny took after his parents. He was an engineer, and a good one at that. Even with the slight trembling in his left hand. He just knew he could fit right in up there.
So when Danny was eighteen, he put all his life savings into getting himself on a shuttle. He told his sister and friends goodbye, promised to keep in touch the best he could. They threw him a farewell party with cake and stories and music that played until the sun rose again. Even his parents showed to say their goodbyes.
Now, seven years of training and travel later, Daniel James Fenton, age twenty-five, stepped off the travel shuttle and into the hustle and bustle of the Montressor Intergalactic Space Port. A single duffle with his personal items, slung over his shoulder and a folder containing his new life, in hand.
And he was finally here

Hello, I’d like to join Eight Ecto Nights, however I’ve never celebrated Hanukah and I suppose I wanted to ask someone who actually has. I’ll do my own reserch of course, but you seemed like a good place to start.
Is there any particular traditions or little things your family does that you might not see on a wikipedia? Is the mood usually as jolly as Christmas or is it more sedated?
beyond that, is there anything you’d particularly like to see in this event?
I hope that makes sence 😆 thank you for answering my questions
Howdy! First of all, welcome aboard eight ecto nights :D
Second, absolutely feel free to ask me questions. I love talking about this stuff, and I know doing independent research can be overwhelming when you don't know what questions you're trying to ask. If you're looking for research help, chabad.org has a lot of the traditional details and laws (here's their hanukkah page), and myjewishlearning.com has a more modern/egalitarian bend (here's their hanukkah intro)- that said, I'm totally open to asks or dms, hit me up!
Now to actually answer your questions. Disclaimer, a lot of this is just my own experience, not universal or the only 'right' way to do it.
In my family we light the menorahs from oldest to youngest. We all have a favorite menorah we tend to light year after year, but we also collect them, and often have a small party on one of the later nights where we invite friends and family to come light with us, so it's handy to have extras on hand. We use the regular boxes of hanukkah candles you can get at any grocery store for most nights, but on the very last my dad gets these beautiful taller candles with gradients of color to use.
When the kids in our family were younger, we'd often sit on the floor in front of the candles after lighting to play dreidel (a kind of spun top with Hebrew letters standing for the phrase nes gadol haya sham, 'a great miracle happened there', around the sides; which side lands facing up determines the outcome of your turn), and my mom still gives out bags of gelt (chocolate coins, typically in bright foil, that you win and lose in a game of dreidel) most nights.
Some other odds and ends we do include covering the hanukkhia-lighting table in aluminum foil (fire safety) and giving out different jobs (like setting up the candles for everyone before we start).
I wouldn't describe it as "jolly", but I'm probably not the right person to ask to compare something to Christmas. It's a fun holiday for sure, and one of my favorites; you have the lights, the festive foods, the gifts and surprises, the time together. It's not just about that though; it's about survival, and standing up to oppression and religious persecution, so there are more serious elements to telling and thinking about the story. That said, it's a pretty minor holiday.
In terms of things I'd love to see, first and foremost I just want to see what people make! The point of open-ended prompts is interpretation, after all. Whether you draw the characters singing hanukkah songs, write about them making their own menorahs, sculpt a ghost-themed dreidel, or something entirely different, I'm excited to see it!
Also, I hope people have a good grasp of what a menorah looks like. A hanukkah menorah, or hanukkiah, has nine total candle or oil holders (either is good, but candles are more common than oil lights). The eight main ones are placed from right to left, and lit from left to right (ie, newest first) by the ninth, the shamash or helper light. The shape of the menorah can get creative, as long as the eight holiday lights are in a straight, level line and the shamash is set apart (usually taller).
As a last thought, it would be nice to see an effort at IDs for image-based posts for the event; it's not hanukkah specific, but I've been seeing them more and more in the phandom, and it's lovely to see folks learning and trying to make the community increasingly accessible!
Let me know if you have more questions, on or off anon, via ask or dm, I am here to help!

This my Trevor Spengler’s fanart and head cannons from my fanfic Ghostbusters: Haunting Adventures:
Trevor became interested in cars since he was 10
Since becoming a middle schooler he was trusted by Callie to watch over the house and Phoebe whenever she has work
He started to work on cars when he was 11
Trevor is bisexual but he tends to lean towards women
His gay awakening was Shang from Mulan and Hercules but he became aware in eight grade
He still have feelings for Lucky but didn’t want to ruin their friendship because of it so he kept it a secret
Phoebe and Trevor have siblings night which is watching a horror movies (more 80s horror) and geek out after watching it
While Phoebe is book smart Trevor is emotional smart
Trevor likes Podcast and whenever the girls are having their ‘girls day’ or they’re free they play video games together
Despite of Phoebe and Podcast creating new gadgets for the team Trevor always updates/create something for Ecto-1 to help things easier busting ghosts on the road
Trevor and Callie would go to local drag racing, get some lunch and talk for mother/son day
Both Phoebe and Trevor approves of Gary since they think Gary is a lot better father figure than their bio
Trevor and Egon would spent HOURS telling each other’s life stories and occasionally Egon would teach about engineering
He felt insecure when people compare him to his family since he wasn’t a genius like his grandfather and sister while wasn’t cunning as Callie
Trevor makes sure the equipment is all good for the next mission and if not then he’ll let the others know not to use that equipment
Trevor is like grand nephew to Winston and Peter while step grandson to Janine and Ray

I'm now coming up with names for work shifts in an environment that doesn't have consistent times. So, they jump around different moons and stations that are functioning with day and night in different ways. So like, three eight hour shifts in a 24 hours period, but morning, afternoon, and night duty doesn't make sense.
But, I want to write the night duty characters as the focus, so the shift have different energies.
There's also a management shift that doesn't have set times, but tends to be present for am and pm shifts more than nd.
So, I'm going to use am, pm, and nd to refer to the work structure but then figure out how to rename them. Cos so far I've had several ideas and i like none of them. And as we know by now, polls help me brainstorm
Management: features like the captain, the chief engineer, a chemical engineer, a chef, a head botanist for the farm. That kind of thing. Someone who manages the fishermen, someone who manages trade deals. So on. They have flexible hours because they need to be up for launch and landing, and whenever they're really needed. But if nothing particular is happening they'll default to half am half pm
AM: pilot, cook, engineer, gardener, cleaner. Couple fishermen. This shift has more of the kind of purposeful long term planning behaviour, so they fire the engines up, set the flight plans, plan the pollination schedule for the farm (i don't fucking know). Probably the cleaner does the laundry this shift.
PM: I reckon this shift gets more experimental. The instructions from the management have landed so the PM chem engineer is like trying out a new theory. The gardener is reorganising the watering process. The engineer is swapping which engine they use so they cycle through the back up engines appropriately. That kinda vibe.
ND: There's an extra cleaner to do a deep clean every shift. The engineer is more trained in long term maintenance than emergency fixes, they do the like preemptive diagnostics to avoid things breaking. The gardener is weeding and training the beans to grab stuff in zero g. The cook is turning everything off and cleaning the equipment in between preparing meals for the ND crew.
I'm going to list ideas in that order; Management, AM, PM, ND. But remember, there's no consistent time. They can land on a moon any hour, so the ND shift is sometimes the active one during the day time, it's just that the shift structure is clean and maintenance rather than the AMs work load of plan and execute. Yeah. I want to get the idea of time out of the shift name
