Perfect overcast day to visit Emanuel Goldenberg aka actor Edward G. Robinson. @phantom_jetty and I just watched Scarlet Street, a brilliant example of film noir directed by Fritz Lang, with stellar performances by Robinson and Joan Bennett. He’s not easy to find because he was placed in a crypt under the name Goodman. Someone left a fake flower and the six of spades. I think that card is significant-Grand Larceny reference? The last photo is the grave of his real family; mother, father and siblings. The mysteries of death. ‘The Dream of Eugene Aram’ - a Josef von Sternberg classic! I found this vintage french poster (anonymous) for sale at a second-hand bookstore and, while it was way too expensive for me, I took a picture of it and drew it at home. Like with every poster for a Moritz picture, this one has an interesting/unusual detail: in the original cut there was a scene where we see Eugene Aram strangle someone, and apparently that scene was so ‘disturbing’ it was cut out by the censors. However, the original cut somehow reached French and German cinemas, where the poster designer incorporated it into his design! Nowadays the only cut we have is the American, censored cut.
