Echoes of Wisdom Headcanon Countdown

༺ Day 22▪︎ 79 Left

When Link goes off to search for Navi (leading into the events of Majora'a Mask), Zelda again is left in a situation where she feels alone. She supposes the best she can do is be grateful that this time, Ganondorf is not a threat and her father is still alive - but he's gone back to primarily ignoring her as he did before, even if he does take her prophecies a bit more seriously now. Desperate to perhaps assist Link's search or find some "use" for herself, she requests that Impa train her like she did in the other timeline. She excels quickly thanks to vague visions of memories, and uses that ability to sneak out of the palace when she can - but she never does find Link until he returns from Termina. She travels, reconnecting with Ruto and even becomes friends with Malon; but she never finds Navi at the fairy springs either. And somehow, when at last the Hero of Time does return to Hyrule, the Ocarina she gave to him seems to reveal lifetimes of grief he masks.

Truth be told, while drawing the first panel, my brain also figured it was only a matter of time before I basically Went for it and just made this duo be an actual thing from… lord knows how many centuries ago. This dang pirate is just that tempting, you guys.

But hey after a while of drawing them I was like oh this may as well just work except of course now she’s forgotten about him and they’re enemies- I’ll clarify or try my best to since I’m still maintaining canon so I’m waiting for more from the game, trust. There is so much I want to say but unsure how to, so a buuunch of art is the way to subtly do it while also being careful I feel like…

Plus, I kept reading the dialogue of Hodgkin talking directly to Merlin while drawing that (I think I’ll also draw a comic of the first part) and I noticed how his choice of words seemed… to have more flavor than normal? Do correct me if I’m wrong and he also talks the similar way to anyone else, but I’d reckon Merlin has to be pretty damn special for him to speak to them that way. Perhaps that’s his way of showing his acknowledgement to how powerful we are… and power is what he constantly chases after, and it’s an “Our battle will be legendary!” moment.

Either way, self-indulgence has bested me and told me “Hodgkin has known Merlin before and it was on Quite A Level, more than just having heard about the legend’s name.” so… there will be more drawings of these two.

• We gotta get the ball rolling with Sae and Kuroo. They’ve got a hysterical dynamic as public prosecutor and unlicensed doctor, and they’ve both got a tendency to dig their heels in when challenged (Sae especially pre-palace). Kuroo’s also got the bad habit of giving out unwanted or unneeded commentary, which I think would be very fun when directed towards Sae. He is fully convinced the changes of heart are just blackmail and the “mental shutdowns” are obviously assassinations. There’s ALSO the aspect of Kuroo being used to jail time, he just. Always gets out. and I think that would irritate Sae so much.

• Makoto and Taro should be dared to go through a haunted house for some reason and then unintentionally psyche each other out about it. Ghosts and Ghouls are not their friends and bc I’m mean I think it’d be funny to send them through their worst nightmare. It’s halloween horror night you two lets go.

• MARUKI AND TARO ALSO NEED TO TALK. He’s the school counselor, legally they have to have some sort of interaction at some point, especially with how wibbly and anxiety filled Taro is. Even if my boy doesn’t specifically go to him for a counseling session, it would probably be very easy for them to run into each other in the halls or during lunch. He’d probably get on Maruki’s ass about his lunch like Sumi did, though he’d. Definitely be nicer about it JKSFGDHFJGH. Less “>:( you need to work on your diet” and a little more “<:( that’s all you’re eating??”

• THROW! CHIE! AT! KENJI! Rope him into her little schemes and get him to pay for stuff (esp since he apparently makes more than Yosuke). Poke him and prod at him and try to figure out what his deal is and watch as he digs in his heels but also somehow manages to show another emotion than 'perpetually grumpy' and hold on what do you mean you're the middle child—

• Mementos thread(s). Either with Joker (frantic knocking on wood) or Queen, I want to throw my boy into the creepy subway from hell. Maybe it's his first run after awakening, maybe Queen and Mole can be smart cookies and get the job done p quick, maybe he could go "Gee Joker, how do you get two personas??", maybe there's a run in with the Reaper, who knows!! There's a lot of potential there I'd love to play with.

• Batting my eyelashes at you and asking pretty please for cat and mouse date. The aquarium maybe? Or at Leblanc? I just need Taro to be so flustered about it but then so endeared as Akira goes and infodumps about fish and sea-life or whatever else.

BONUS: He’s been pretty quiet in my musespace recently, but we need to have Rock and Akira interact. It was the first domino that set off my spiral into madness, the reason I asked “So what’s Joker’s deal?”, so legally he’s gotta show up at Leblanc at some point or vice versa. I also think him and Aigis interacting could be very very fun, especially since I’m so curious how and if his variable tool system could copy her shadow assault tech.
