Mizore Ito (Misery-chan) - Eerie Tempo
My character Mizore Ito (Misery-chan)
I really love the album art for a compilation album called Easy Tempo Vol.10: …End Titles. It’s so cool and moody and I thought it’d be fun to draw Mizore as the girl.
I was inspired by the song itself: Mary’s Theme by Stelvio Cipriani while working on this piece.

[2/2] Enstars: B’s-Log March 2017
Released in January 2017.
Unit Song CD 2nd Series Vol.10: Trickstar Cast Interview
English lyrics are not yet up on the wiki, but I’ll eventually refer from other sources!
It’s the last installment of the interview series! Not very happy that I finished it so late but I got it all out! I’m also not sure if triple release is a good thing but I wanted to get them all out... And woohoo for 3rd series, Knight Killers + Dead Man’s (it’s still Deadmanz to me), and the teachers’ duet!
Tumblr media
Yoshimasa Hosoya (VA of Hokuto Hidaka)
Q: Firstly, please tell us about your impression on the songs when you first listened to them.
Hosoya: Rainbow-Colored Seasons is like a school anthem, or perhaps it sounds like songs such as Tsubasa wo Kudasai that lean slightly towards pop, a song that everyone sings in a music class at school. As for the other song, HEART→BEATER!!!!, at any rate it has high tempo, and key is also high (bitter laugh). I had a really hard time.
Q: Then how did the actual recording go?
Hosoya: Rainbow-Colored Seasons left a deep impression inside me. Rather than an idol song, HEART→BEATER!!!! feels like an opening song of kids anime that airs around five in the afternoon. Rather than being an idol song that is aimed towards female audience, I think it’s aimed slightly towards boys.
Q: Please tell us the appeal of each song.
Hosoya: In HEART→BEATER!!!!, I remember more that the melody is hard to sing. So instead of phrases, I remember more about the song’s atmosphere as a whole (laugh). For lyrics, it would be the line in Rainbow-Colored Seasons, “If you act recklessly, there are things you’ll miss.” [1] When I read it the first time, my eyes went wide, and I somehow liked it. Personally I can really connect with it (laugh). When you’re young, you’ll definitely become reckless, and I understand that.
Q: Ensemble Stars has been extending its reach through appearances in various kinds of media. Could you promote the series to the readers who have not yet been exposed to it?
Hosoya: Before, when I saw Ensemble Stars! poster, Trickstar members were wearing their stage outfits, and they looked really refreshing. But it’s a piece of work that has to answer the needs of all sorts of people, so I think it may not be right for us to decide what kind of unit it is. As long as they’re idols, no matter what kind of person that character is or what background they have, as long as there are fans that support them, surely there will be parts of them that will change. But regarding Hokuto, I think he’s an unusual boy. I think he’s very far from everyone’s image of an idol, and he’s a boy that feels like a grandpa (laugh). If idols are meant to gain popularity from the young folks, if he talks like a grandpa like that, he’ll probably have to face a lot of hardships from now on, which is something I worry about (laugh).
Q: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the release!
Hosoya: The second CD series is releasing just like that, which really surprised me. To me, it’s a fresh experience. I hope those who listen will find it enjoyable.
---(t/n)---
1. First prechorus: “Gamushara ni nareba, mienai mono mo aru”
Tetsuya Kakihara (VA of Subaru Akehoshi)
Q: Firstly, please tell us about your impression on the songs when you first listened to them.
Kakihara: Until now, the songs have been considerably wild and crazy, but Rainbow-Colored Seasons is a soft and beautiful song. I find the rhythm and the melody to be slightly difficult. But the feel of “We are full of energy! And cheerful!”, that energetic feeling and continuous push that have been present until now instead become an emotional song that isn’t all about power. Conversely, HEART→BEATER!!!! is a complete 180, a song full of energy! It feels like you can’t sing without four people. As the lyrics say in the chorus, “Once we’re bathed in spotlight, we’ll become one,” [1] it’s a number that pumps up the performers right before a live concert. Meanwhile, Rainbow-Colored Seasons is the complete opposite, so it was fun being able to record both songs at the same time.
Q: Then how did the actual recording go?
Kakihara: In Rainbow-Colored Seasons, I sang sentimentally. Trickstar is usually brimming with power and smile, but you can catch a glimpse of their sentimental side, which is something I value. I kept in mind that it’s a song of those four, and not to sing with Subaru’s nature. As for HEART→BEATER!!!!, I intend to sing it with energy! Among the songs that we have, it was quite the tricky one (laugh). Up until now, the songs have been simple and catchy, and it’s like everyone can remember it in no time, but I feel it’s getting harder and harder. I’ve sung Nakatsuchi’s song as a duet before [2], and I think he makes songs keeping in mind of the voice actors’ key range, the amount of energy they have, and their expressiveness. That’s why you can find something different in the song this time. But for both songs, I can say that they’re catchy, but there’s a degree of difficulty in the musicality and you need to think of a way to find the groove. The bar has risen, and it made me think that’s just how much expectation they have put on us (laugh).
Q: Please tell us the appeal of each song.
Kakihara: For HEART→BEATER!!!!, the chorus is catchy after all. The lyrics picture the excitement of the moment they enter the stage. I’ve also had opportunities to participate in many kinds of stages, so I really understand that feeling the moment you enter the stage. Thanks to that, it was easy for me to put my feelings into my singing. As for Rainbow-Colored Seasons, I suppose it’s the “Sing a song ~ ” at the end. Maybe because lyrics and melody like these are placed at the end, it leaves a tinge of that sentimental feeling. It may be the most mellow part of the song. There’s also improvisation to the melody, so I think it will leave an impact when you listen to it. But Rainbow-Colored Seasons is an irregular type. It may seem gentle at a glance, but to the singers it’s actually a monster song (laugh).
Q: Ensemble Stars has been extending its reach through appearances in various kinds of media. Could you promote the series to the readers who have not yet been exposed to it?
Kakihara: I think Subaru is a type of protagonist that would appear in a shounen manga or the like, someone whom you can understand the easiest, and straightforward. He’s got the energy to drag the others along, but he also lacks something precisely because he’s still a teenage boy. But those gaps will be filled by his friends and with experience. He’s an honest boy, so he can absorb all sorts of things. Right now, he may still be lacking something, but he can make you look forward to his development. Among idol titles that are catered towards female audience, it may be a bit unusual for a boy like him to be the center of a main unit. There are all kinds of units in Ensemble Stars!, but personally I like Trickstar the most.
Q: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the release!
Kakihara: This time, the two songs are on completely different vectors, and I think they’re both wonderful songs. Since the lyrics also express the characters’ feelings and situation, it was easy to sing. Trickstar’s honest feelings that are not pretentious, easy to understand and straightforward are expressed here, so I think it will reach you whether you listen to the song or read the lyrics. Just listen to them over and over, and sing them at the karaoke! Try singing these songs now that they’re becoming more and more difficult! (laugh) If you need something to fire up the mood, sing HEAR BEATER!!!!. If you want to relax and sing alone, I’d recommend Rainbow-Colored Seasons. I don’t think a few times listening is enough before you can sing them, so please listen to them to death, and drill them into your bodies (laugh).
---(t/n)---
1. First chorus: “Spotlight o abitara hitotsu ni naru no sa”
2. The song is Enstars OP theme, ONLY YOUR STARS.
Tumblr media
Yuki Kaji (VA of Mao Isara)
Q: Firstly, please tell us about your impression on the songs when you first listened to them.
Kaji: The songs from the first series were both really wonderful, so I was really looking forward to what kind of songs they will be this time. I think we’ll be able to deliver to you Trickstar’s charms that are different from last time. I could picture them singing at a live concert, and as I practiced I was hoping I’ll be able to express that in my singing.
Q: Then how did the actual recording go?
Kaji: The image I got from HEART→BEATER!!!! is that it’s fitting as the first song at a live concert. If a concert starts with this song, I bet it’ll warm up the hall in a beat. In contrast, from when I listened to the demo tape of Rainbow-Colored Seasons, I pictured it would be a song for encore. As these are character songs, I intend to sing bringing out Mao-kun’s character and keeping the balance among the four.
Q: Please tell us the appeal of each song.
Kaji: In this piece of work, as idols, every unit works hard to strive higher, so I think their songs will embody their own unique spirit in them. In HEART→ BEATER!!!!, the lyrics in the beginning leave a big impact. You can especially feel Trickstar’s members’ energy in the line “We can wait no longer | The applause is calling for us.” [1] On top of that, it’s a very Ensemble Stars! music, where the word “Ensemble” is present in the lyrics. Take it literally! It’s a song that can bring the singers and the audience together to build up excitement. It’s orthodox and exhilarating in a way that is different from Rebellion Star. As for Rainbow-Colored Seasons, I think it’s a song that looks back at the time those four have spent together with all of you players; it’s a song that makes everyone become one. It’s the first time Trickstar is singing a ballad that is this mellow, isn’t it? Trickstar gives you an image of a cheerful and bright group, just like CHERRY HAPPY STREAM, but in fact they also have this side to them. I hope you can see that.
Q: Ensemble Stars has been extending its reach through appearances in various kinds of media. Could you promote the series to the readers who have not yet been exposed to it?
Kaji: Mao-kun is Trickstar’s unsung hero! Although, that ‘nice guy’ part of him attracts all sorts of trouble… (laugh) While he’s baffled by them, he’d still unconsciously give his aid, which is a part of him that is both adorable and cool. Through the recording session, I could also understand his different expressions. I hope you’ll be able to give your support together with me, and make this series more merry.
Q: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the release!
Kaji: For those who listened to the first unit songs, I bet you’re looking forward to what kind of songs the new ones will be. I think you’ll be able to see Trickstar’s new charm that’s a bit different from what we’ve seen so far, so please hold up your expectations! Also, to those who have only recently taken interest in Ensemble Stars! or Trickstar, I’d like you to play the game first. If you listen to the unit songs after you know each of their background, I believe you’ll be able to see further the charm of the songs. Please look forward to the release, thank you!

1. Beginning: Machikirenai no sa | Kansei ga yondeiru kara
Showtaro Morikubo (VA of Makoto Yuuki)
Q: Firstly, please tell us about your impression on the songs when you first listened to them.
Morikubo: To be honest, my first impression was, “[the key is] so low!” and if I sing with Makoto’s range, this is surely going to be a feat (laugh). The chorus in both songs are fine, but when he’s singing with a group, Makoto-kun may have to rise up to the challenge. His voice range is quite high, so… you can even say it’s a trial – it’s a “Makoto-kun Challenge” (laugh).
Q: Then how did the actual recording go?
Morikubo: Rainbow-Colored Seasons is a bit sentimental, isn’t it? It may have the word ‘rainbow’ in it, but it feels like sepia. The melody may sound positive, but it’s still sentimental. “It’s positive… is what you think, but it’s not what it is!” That kind of feel, is what enhances the sentimental feel, I think. HEART→ BEATER!!!! is a very Trickstar song. I sang with a fun feeling. In this CD, I believe you can enjoy two kinds of songs: a sentimental one and a cheerful one.
Q: Please tell us the appeal of each song.
Morikubo: They’re unit songs, so I think they display the concept of “the four as one”. In Rainbow-Colored Seasons, it’s like the four are sharing the same feeling. Also, I feel the leading into the chorus is emotional. The way the guitar enters and fills in is so cool! Singing HEART→BEATER!!!! as Makoto is just so hard (laugh). But, the way the four of them unite in the chorus really hit a good spot; this song is so nice to sing!
Q: Ensemble Stars has been extending its reach through appearances in various kinds of media. Could you promote the series to the readers who have not yet been exposed to it?
Morikubo: Trickstar is a unit that is full of spirit, and as I act, I think Makoto-kun’s charm is his cheerfulness. He’s a mood-maker, I think. And behind that, he actually harbors a complex about appearance. While he’s an idol, he also has a problem that is life-sized. It’s realistic and typical of a young man, which is nice. He’s not entirely cute nor he is entirely cheerful, but inside that there is also depth that is typical of a young man. Personally, I like how he’s not good with girls! (laugh)
Q: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the release!
Morikubo: It’s been a year since the previous unit songs got released, and thank you for waiting. From here on, 2017 feels like there is still a lot of room for further development. As the year’s forerunner, please give a listen to the CD and look forward to the upcoming development.
