Fearing war with Iran, Israel asks the United States to approve the sale of 25 F-15EX fighters soon

The consequences of the Israeli airstrike on the Iranian Embassy in Damascus, Syria, on April 1º 2024, may mean that Israel defied an open war with Iran. Although it is militarily superior in the Middle East, and always has the support of the United States, the many fronts that Jews have to face make Israel need to prepare for various scenarios. One scenario to face the war with Iran and other Middle Eastern countries is to request the accelerated delivery of the purchase of 25 F-15EX fighters.

President Joe Biden's administration is considering whether to authorize the huge $18 billion arms transfer package to Israel, which includes the acquisition of dozens of F-15EX fighters along with weapons, three sources familiar with the matter said.

The sale of 25 Boeing F-15EX jets to Israel has been under review since the United States received a formal order in January 2023, one of the sources said. Accelerating the delivery of the planes was one of the main requests of the Israeli Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, who visited Washington last week and held talks with those responsible ?? Americans, including National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.

Seeing the escalation that is taking place in the Middle East, a source said that the U.S. is now considering accelerating the sale of F-15EX fighters to Israel. The Israeli Air Force also said it intends to double the number of orders in question.

The official Request Letter (LOR) for the purchase of the F-15EX fighters was sent by the Israeli Government to the U.S. Government last week. LOR is the first stage of the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) process. Indonesia had already submitted a LOR for the F-15EX acquisition plan. After sending the LOR, only then will the Agency for Cooperation for the Security of Defense (DSCA) disclose the information of the offer along with the value of the sale.

The Israeli Air Force wants 25 new F-15EX and, in parallel, will also upgrade 25 of its F-15I variants to the same avionic configuration as the F-15EX, except for the fly-by-wire system. The Israeli Air Force currently operates 50 F-15 A/B/C/D variants and 25 F-15I variants.

When Israel made the decision to buy more F-15 and F-35, it was based on the assumption that in future combat scenarios the targets would be protected by advanced air defense systems. This would require the first wave of F-35 to neutralize the enemy's air defense systems and then the role of the F-15 to carry out subsequent attacks on enemy territory.

Although Israel has asked to speed up the acquisition of the F-15EX and Washington is considering doing so, on the other hand, it is not easy for Boeing to accelerate the production of the F-15EX, unless this is done through a 'change' in the production queue of the F-15EX (Eagle II) commissioned by the U.S. Air Force (USAF).

Embraer and ENAER Announce Cooperation Agreement in Chile

Embraer and ENAER (National Aeronautical Company of Chile) announced two industrial and services cooperation agreements involving the A-29 Super Tucano and the C-390 Millennium defense aircraft, as well as commercial aircraft. The cooperation will expand Embraer's network of suppliers and services in Chile and contribute to the integration of the aerospace industries in both Brazil and Chile. The cooperation is the result of an understanding between Embraer, ENAER, and the Chilean Air Force. The Chilean company will begin manufacturing components and will be a designated maintenance center for the Chilean Air Force's fleet of 22 A-29 Super Tucano units. The agreement is linked to the expansion of the A-29 Super Tucano fleet in operation in the country. Furthermore, the cooperation aims to expand both ENAER's role as a supplier and Embraer's presence in Chile. With this agreement, Embraer and ENAER intend to resume a successful history of cooperation, which began in the 1990s. Presupuestos de Enami, EFE y Metro anticipan que cerrarán 2018 con pérdidas

Dipres aprobó el presupuesto de 26 firmas; cinco de éstas cerrarían el ejercicio con números rojos. En total invertirán US$ 4.730 millones este ejercicio.

Inversiones por US$ 4.730 millones proyectan 26 empresas públicas para este año, según las partidas de las compañías que fueron aprobadas por la Dirección de Presupuestos (Dipres).

Los decretos que visaron los presupuestos de caja de las empresas fueron tramitados durante las últimas semanas de la administración Bachelet, siendo la mayoría de ellos firmados por la expresidenta y su ministro de Hacienda, Nicolás Eyzaguirre.

El panorama que se vislumbra para el año es, en general, optimista: solo cinco de las 26 firmas estatales prevén cerrar el ejercicio con pérdidas. Así, Astilleros y Maestranzas de la Armada (Asmar), Ferrocarriles del Estado (EFE), Metro, la Empresa Nacional de Minería (Enami) y la Sociedad Agrícola y Servicios de Isla de Pascua (Sasipa) terminarán con números rojos.

En el caso de Asmar, proyecta pérdidas por US$ 11,3 millones. La cifra significa un vuelco respecto a sus resultados al tercer trimestre del año pasado, en que acumulaba ganancias por US$ 11,5 millones.

EFE se mantendría este año en los números rojos. La firma prevé pérdidas por US$ 227,7 millones. A septiembre, tenía un resultado negativo de US$ 51,7 millones.

Metro también prevé cerrar este año con pérdidas, las que llegarían a US$ 143,5 millones. De esta manera, la compañía volvería a los números rojos de 2016, luego que el año pasado cerrara con ganancias por US$ 22,6 millones.

La firma considera dos programas que suman una inversión real de US$ 673 millones. “Para realizar los gastos, es requisito indispensable que los estudios y/o proyectos de inversión cuenten con la recomendación técnico-económico del Ministerio de Desarrollo Social”, dice el informe del tren subterráneo. Este acápite se repite en las partidas de todas las empresas públicas.

Enami es otra de las firmas estatales que prevé cerrar en rojo: proyecta pérdidas por US$ 27,6 millones. En 2017 cerró con un resultado negativo de US$ 50,9 millones.

“Antes del 31 de marzo de 2018, el Ministerio de Minería informará a las Comisiones de Minería y Energía de la Cámara de Diputados y del Senado, como también a la Comisión Especial Mixta de Presupuestos, la política de largo plazo de Fomento de la Pequeña y Mediana Minería, de las metas, mecanismos y cobertura proyectada de este programa, así como un informe trimestral de ejecución de dicha política, desglosado por regiones y provincias”, dice el presupuesto, en el cual se precisa que la inversión real de la empresa debe ser visado por el Ministerio de Desarrollo Social y Cochilco.

La quinta estatal que prevé un resultado negativo es la Sociedad Agrícola y Servicios de Isla de Pascua, que estima cerrar este año con US$ 835 mil en pérdidas, un vuelco respecto a las ganancias por US$ 574 mil que acumulaba a septiembre.

Esta firma fue creada en 1980 con el objetivo de administrar y explotar servicios de utilidad pública y otros bienes en la isla.

Cuentas alegres

Codelco proyectó que sus ingresos de operación alcanzarían los US$ 13.218 millones este año y sus costos llegarían a US$ 9.545 millones. Dado esto, los resultados antes de impuestos de la minera estatal serían de US$ 2.380 millones. El presupuesto consideró una utilidad líquida de US$ 416,3 millones. Al tercer trimestre, la ganancia acumulada alcanzó los US$ 273 millones.

Siguiendo la positiva tendencia, 10 empresas portuarias (entre las que figuran Arica, Coquimbo y Talcahuano) proyectan cerrar con números azules, siendo San Antonio y Valparaíso las que liderarían, con utilidades por US$ 13,4 millones y US$ 11,6 millones, respectivamente.

Casa de Moneda y Correos también proyectan ganancias, por US$ 151 mil y US$ 1,8 millón, respectivamente. A septiembre de 2017, ambas firmas evidenciaron pérdidas.

ENAP seguiría con números positivos; incluso, las cifras proyectadas serían al alza: ganaría unos US$ 59 millones en 2018, superior a los US$ 23,7 millones de 2017.

Cotrisa, la sanitaria Econssa y la agrícola Sacor cerrarían el ejercicio con utilidades por US$ 111 mil, US$ 5,1 millones y US$ 3,9 millones.

Enaer y Famae se sumarían con utilidades estimadas por US$ 2 millones y US$ 469 mil, al igual que Polla, que prevé ganar US$ 4,9 millones, y la Zofri, que estima un resultado positivo de US$ 24,2 millones.
