Why do I feel such unease when I see you? He had taken to following Emiah around, watching from shadows and half-hidden places as the ethereal figure explored the city, trying in vain to read the emotions crossing the often blurred translucence of his face.  It is not even an unease, if I examine it. It is merely… I cannot even find the word. Unsettled? Maybe. Discomfort? No, not that. Transience? Hm, perhaps… It was far simpler to read Emiah’s emotions through his body. The gentle way in which he touched everything around him, the reverence with which he moved through the streets and buildings, the care and respect that he showed toward the city’s history. You see it as bones, don’t you? The white wraiths of ruin that I see over these buildings are your truth. You see not these solid walls, these whole and complete roads; you see decay and collapse. These banners do not fly for you, the scent of incense does not reach you; for you the sound is only that of wind and insects, and the scent is but warm grass and dust.

Tara may or may not have changed her outfit twice. No, three times. At this point it felt a little odd not being in her Hunter’s Association uniform, even if it wasn’t the fancy, corseted one her bestie usually sported. But now she had the opportunity to wear something she actually put together herself: a skirt that fell practically to her ankles that looked as though it was sewn out of multiple patterned scarves, a knit, button-up cardigan closed just in the middle, and enough jewelry to make her pleasantly jingle as she walked.

She even put a little bit of curl into her hair, her whole appearance more flowy and bouncy. She just wanted to look, well, pretty. It wasn’t often that she ever felt particularly pretty, especially as of recently. And if she finally had a chance to maybe feel like she was the center of attention, like she was the one being looked at all afternoon, then… Yes. She was going to take it.

Just after landing on the Azure Square subway platform, she felt her phone buzz in her pocket. He was early! It made her heart flutter in her chest: maybe he actually did want to be there. Tara’s steps got lighter at the thought alone. She was going to have fun! She was going to date! She was going on a date! With a really cute boy, to boot!

Practically skipping up the steps, she replied with a grin spread like butter on her face.

After an entire evening of sorting through florals and staring at various websites, he was certain he had his act together. It had been 15 years since his last date, but... with the bits of encouragement he'd been receiving he felt some of the nerves give way to excitement. Before he went to bed, with trembling fingers, he slipped the ring off the necklace that he always kept beneath his collar and stowed it safely away in a box of dried marigolds.

The next day, after a fresh haircut, at 20 minutes until noon, he arrived at the boba shop they'd agreed upon, a few small flowers wrapped in tissue behind his back.
