Maxima shakes the folded piece of paper between her fingers, slapping it rhythmically. It would not be long before her absence was noticed. The light of the candle did not reach the corners of the room. One last time, she opens the letter she had written just a few moments ago.

Eleanor, I still cannot believe it. Forgive me for my selfishness: when talking about your death I will make it about myself. I don't know of any other way to speak about it. I feel that only you — only now — can help me talk about such things. Forgive me, and thank you. When I was five I saw two rats gnawing at the left eye of a young boy in Paris. He had been dead for a few days then. I didn't know him, but I could have easily been in his place. It is an image that has never truly left me. Death has accompanied me since that day: in the darker corners of rooms, in the smoke of my cigarettes, in the lines on my hands. I have always been able to see my own death in the eyes of others. When I left Paris for life at the Walrus, I feared I would die at sea. My body would be thrown over the water after suffering whatever indignity the world thought I deserved given the anger my existence has commanded. Eaten by the depths and forgotten by all. My father would have finally sighed with relief and my mother felt lighter — now that the stain upon her life was finally removed. It has been years since I checked on her, but I believe she is still alive and content. I believe she thinks of me as dead already. These days I fear my death will come on land instead: By the hands of English men, Spaniards or from Flint and those loyal to him. I see Death so clearly now, Eleanor. Knowing you died I feel my own fate is sealed: I will die here too. I wish this could bring me some measure of peace, that it would push me to make preparations, but dread is all I feel. You died and the world moved on and more died since. It feels ordinary and it feels unfair. It is so unfair. I was not there when they found you, Flint refused to tell me anything beyond the facts. As much as I wish I could lie to myself and think that this was all an elaborate lie from Flint to hurt me, I know the truth. I wish I could believe that you found a way to Philadelphia yourself. Found a body to trick any and all that might come looking for you. I so wish I could believe that. I am so sorry Eleanor. Nassau was better to have had you. Goodbye.

She folds it once more holding it to the flame. She makes sure that it is burnt to the very last piece. It takes some time, the door that keeps her in solitude gets a single knock but she does not turn. She doesn't turn when it is finally opened. There was no time to mourn, Maxima was unsure if there would ever be, but there was work to do.

Which dragon scared your commander the most?

zhaitan; undead creatures wig cato tf out, so having to deal with all of the risen (the charr, especially) made cato's fur bristle the entire time. she hates orr SO MUCH

Who is your commander closest to now?

eleanor! and aodhan, but for the most part, her wife/mate knows her the absolute best out of everyone, so cato lets her guard down the most around her

Who was your commander closest to prior?

maxima, her previous mate -- their relationship was casual to begin with, but work got in the way for both of them so they eventually mutually ended things

How does your commander remember the fallen?

cato doesn't tend to dwell on fallen soldiers too much -- in the pact, and in the legions, you know what you've signed up for... but when @legendary-alliance-stance's human commander, ihsan, died at the hands of balthazar in elona (and later on, when aurene died during All or Nothing), cato became extremely subdued and lost a lot of her usual bite.

she never outwardly mourns the fallen, but if someone is close enough to her, she mourns in her own ways.

Aight aight who wants to hear more about the Medusa AU that's very near and dear to my heart?

This concept started with me like: I just want his hair to be snakes. Cuz Snake Boy as Medusa. Just makes sense!

So Flint is Perseus and Silver is Medusa. Flint shows up to kill the Gorgon b/c he needs its head as a weapon to rescue Miranda (playing the role of Danae from the original myth) from Peter Ashe (playing the role of Polydectes)

Anyway, the Gorgon proves to be not as horrible of a monster as Flint was lead to believe, so they strike a bargain instead. Silver will go back to Flint’s hometown with him and help kill Ashe and all his goons. In return, Silver won’t be so fucking BORED. Plus Flint is the first mortal in a million years (not literally) who has actually stopped to talk to him instead of just stab stab kill.  (“You asked my name. No one’s ever done that.”) Basically in exchange for his assistance, Silver gets an intriguing little adventure.

In this verse Silver’s Gorgon siblings are Max and Eleanor. Or rather, Maxima and Elynore cuz I gave them Greek names. Yes I did just recycle this siblings concept for Siren verse, so what.

Anyway, they go on back to Flint’s hometown (roadtrip) and maybe on the way meet Princess Andromeda (Madi) and fight a sea monster for her. B/c this is an action-adventure story!

Other details are: Silver has to wear a blindfold in public b/c of his stone eyes ofc. He was cursed to be a Gorgon, but y’know, he Can’t Bear to Speak of It. Haven’t decided exactly why he was cursed yet, or if he’s going to talk about it.

I’ve made Flint a demigod of the sea in this, cribbing from the Percy Jackson series where Perseus is the son of Poseidon instead of Zeus. He discovers along their journey that he can summon storms. Lightning! Zap!

(Neither of them know yet, but Flint is immune to Silver’s stoning, but there’s gonna be a ROM COM REVEAL)

So after a long and fun roadtrip with lots of bonding and shenanigans and falling in loooooove, they get back to Flint’s hometown and Ashe has So Many Dudes right? Well there’s a big fight and someone gets Silver in a bad spot, about to cut his head off for real for real. He goes like, full naga transformation and tears a swath of destruction through the enemies. 

Then he'll be all worried Flint isn't going to like him anymore since he's a horrible monster but ofc by this point Flint is 💜💜 and doesn't think of Silver like that.

And Silver’s torn his blindfold accidentally during the fight. So after this battle Flint is rushing over there, bc he was terrified for Silver and wants to check if he's okay. And they lock eyes. Flint thinking like "oh wow those are pretty eyes, too bad they have to be covered all the time" at the same time Silver makes a horrified sound and covers them with his hands.

He can't bear to look up and see Flint as a statue but Flint is strangely fine. Goes over and removes Silver's hands and coaxes him to open his eyes. And it's super sweet and like "You can… you can look at me." Def kissing c:

So Flint founds a new city for all his loved ones and new friends and they live happily ever after. That's what Perseus does and it's very in keeping with the “nation of thieves” Nassau idealized ending.

He invites Silver, Maxima, Elynore and Princess AndroMadi (XD) to all move in with him and Miranda. They form a happy little family yay, the end. 

Also a side of monsterfucking b/c who doesn’t want to be wrapped up and pinned down by a giant muscular snake coil? Flint certainly does. Mark him down as scared and horny, very happy to be fucked by a naga. And in return Silver will get lightly shocked by local demigod’s lightning powers during sex. Eyes emoji. Lots of orgasms, everyone is delighted.

[ eleanor & maxima pls!! this is 100% inspired by that maxima & silver pen pals ask from lottie and your response because im still on the floor ]

The letter arrives to name "Eleanor" If pressed, the servant that carried it to her room directly would tell her that it arrived with a lot of other shipments from the interior. That she had been order to deliver it directly for fear that the wine would be confiscated by Berringer. The name would not mean much. How could it, after all, while her memory was stark (which had allowed her to flourish in Nassau) there were quite a few self proclaimed merchants. Though not many that could afford the bottle of Italian wine that was presented atop her table.

Eleanor, I thought to add your last name, but could not pick between the devils you are caught between. "Rogers" for survival or "Guthrie" for nurture. Neither of them fit, so your name is all that remains. You once told me this town exists because of women like us. Fuck God and fuck Men. Would you believe me if I told you those words have stuck with me since? Not because I did not know or believed before but because of how special those times were. How rare of an opportunity we were presented with. It feels like it was in another life, and I find myself believing it was. Ever since the English ships landed on Nassau's shores, since the stories started pouring from the city about your new life: it is clear that you never returned. Given the times, it would be ill-advised to believe you were not the source that informed Rogers of my existence. Inexplicably, foolishly, however — I find myself doing so. Despite my best judgement and knowledge of what you must have had to do to carve this place for yourself. It is not something that many can comprehend or would be willing to understand, but not many women have kept their lives when forced into the same situation. It is hard for men to understand what sort of sacrifice that requires. You will find no judgment in this letter. I fear you have come to believe that you deserve this, that this is all you should, could strive for. It breaks my heart to think that you have been made to believe it: this lie that you should be so lucky to live with the leftovers Rogers or your father chose to leave behind and thank the heavens you still breathe. You need not force yourself into the image of women these men hold. To be satisfied to use these men's scraps to build a life, Eleanor. i’ve only listed erran’s primary dragon age characters, but she rps tolkien as well as having a list of secondary muses! her ocs have interesting and complex backstories that really dig deep into dragon age lore, specifically fereldan lore and the civil war. they are such natural parts of the lore that i had to mark them (oc) otherwise you might confuse them with canons like eleanor and loghain.

there isn’t a muse here who isn’t fascinating and beautifully written. with the exception of moe, they’re all dragon age characters, and while i haven’t rped with all of them yet i hope to one day. skells is a wonderful writer and i’m glad a multimuse has enabled her to have more characters b/c that’s what we deserve.

i’ve been following pastry’s rp blogs for... idk... seven years now? a lot. a lot of years. i’ve seen a few of these muses in action on single-muse blogs, so i’m glad they can return in multimuse form. pastry’s samson and ashley in particular are old favourites, but looking at this list pastry has the magic ability to pull my faves out in general (i would die for zenyatta. and probably deserve it after how many times i’ve gotten him killed playing him...).

again, i decided to only list the dragon age muses to save me from tabbing back and forth, but this blog has so many fun muses aside from that! like spyro, taking me back to the days i would ask my dad to take me and my brother to a clubhouse so we could play one of the games on the ps2. and christopher robin! as for their dragon age muses, i’ve thoroughly enjoyed them. i still have a few to get to know, but their samson and minaeve are great, and i’ve known clancy for a few years now! it’s comforting to see him on my dash after all this time.

MILEY CYRUS - YOUNGER NOW [5.38] We return her enthusiasm.

Alex Clifton: Confession: I've never really cared for Miley Cyrus' music. There's something about her tonal quality that doesn't sit well with me and her music has always been middling at best. She's tried to be cute, edgy, hard, and experimental, and none of those have ever sounded great. Yet there's something to be said for "Younger Now" -- for once in her entire musical career, Cyrus doesn't sound like she's trying. The entire tune's full of weird platitudes regarding change, the lyrics are a bit basic, and I can't say I'd seek this song out, but it finally feels like she's found her niche and enjoys the music she makes. That's all you can ever ask for from an artist, I suppose. I still have mixed feelings about Cyrus in general (appropriation, etc.) but maybe this era will mark a welcome change for her. [5]

Alfred Soto: Miley Cyrus can sing, but those stretched syllables are hell on my concentration. Also, while I sympathize with clinging to the insouciance of youth, Cyrus's public persona suggests she's more interesting as an adult channelling the energy of youth. [6]

Katie Gill: Miley Cyrus is 24. I don't want to be ageist, but "I feel so much younger now"? Really? Speaking as a 25 year old, I'd honestly be surprised if any of us WANT to go back to our younger, high school to undergrad years (fun fact! Legally drinking and not living in a dorm is AWESOME.) There's so much potential here: after all, a younger Cyrus still spent most of her life in the spotlight. How do you reconcile that with feeling younger? Instead, she gives us a song composed of nothing but platitudes and fortune cookie fortunes over a stale instrumentation. [5]

Eleanor Graham: She doesn't actually feel younger now. Age is still measured in linear years and not square inches of skin. VMA-gate Miley was only "mature" in the least literal, most Daily Mail sense of the word; and Miley in a high-cut red leotard performing a terrible cover of "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" is still about as indelibly, nakedly young as pop gets. But this isn't about that. This is about a peaceful transfer of power. A resurrection with director's commentary. "Even though it's not who I am," she explains patiently. "I'm not afraid of who I used to be." As T****r S***t attempts to take a knife to her past incarnations without cutting ties with her original fanbase, to exclude herself from every narrative going while sitting smugly atop the platform those narratives provided, and thus becomes engulfed in an ever more impenetrable web of political and cultural discourse, Cyrus manages a simple and bloodless transition. From Bad Girl to Good, from breasts and gold grills to a white dress laced to the neck, but for the lipgloss one of Sofia Coppola's Civil War schoolgirls. This and the country rock sounds are part of her plan to ensnare Trump supporters and - what? Even if Cyrus were somewhere between Billy Bragg and Bob Dylan, their votes are not up for grabs. Their hearts, perhaps. Their $9.99, certainly. But "Younger Now" doesn't have the aesthetic of moral bankruptcy. Cyrus follows Joan Didion's advice: there are no ugly confrontations, just a smile and a shrug and a "change is a thing you can count on." The music sounds good; clean, like fresh air. [6]

Maxwell Cavaseno: More and more, Miley Cyrus's current phase feels less like the next step of a continuous desperation to be the star of her generation and instead appears to be evolving into their conscience. "Younger Now" sonically feels like a big budget Neko Case song, with the intent of continuously reminding us that the perpetual zest of annoyance that characterized so much of Cyrus's more 'edgy' period has been expulsed like so much poison for the sake of a nice, responsible, maturity. This is the Miley so many of us all knew she was deep down, whom she has finally allowed to breathe without trying to be so wild and crazy. Fact of the matter is, this burnout for all its satisfaction as a pop song feels more desolate than the pine-needle provocations of Bangerz & Dead Petz. If anything, her more crooked material at least had the ideas of a wild desire to impress people. Now we're left with placation and a bowed head of humility, tragic resignation that just feels less like being tamed than being broken. [5]

Katherine St Asaph: How many pop stars have to penitently abandon electro before we note it not as individual awakenings but a trend? The playbook is the same: hemlines lowered, parties canceled, acoustic guitars mixed to near-pornographic emphasis, duet with Dolly Parton or someone like her. Miley has read your thinkpieces and made musical apologies, mea maxima Crow. Or maxima megachurch, as the stolid kick drum suggests big sterile auditoriums and the nonspecificity of Cyrus' supposed awakening would work fine at a youth-group baptism. You probably think I hate this, but it's not all bad. Pro: Synthpop is plenty friendly to alto voices and thick timbres (evidence: the entire '80s), but perhaps in a soft-rock setting the solidity to Miley's voice might be less lost on listeners, since they think it isn't autotuned. Con: The demographic cynicism of it all; I'm sure it's not lost on Miley or anyone that Sam Hunt's "Body Like a Back Road" is in the Top 10 and is getting the kind of pop radio airplay that hip hop-influenced tracks increasingly aren't. Pro: I've got a soft spot for pop-rock, that spot where Lilith Fair meets U2; it's funny and kinda vindicating to see people like it when not by those names. Con: With "maturity" and "realness" invariably comes a thematic flattening, the pat morality of a story's end; there's more weirdness and emotional ambivalence in Tove Lo or Halsey or the near-entirety of R&B than these bowdlerized bangerz. [5]

Rebecca A. Gowns: Such a confusing career move. Miley's trading in her tasteless minstrel show act for a scrubbed-up, more "mature" brand and a whiter shade of pale. Even though she claims she's "younger" now, the song feels decades older and terribly dated, much like those rich teenage girls who dress like their mothers. She's trying to sound more self-assured, but all I can hear is a little girl clomping around in big high heels, telling us she's not a baby, she's five; she refuses to do what we expect from her, but her imagination is still confined to the walls of her own house. Scott Mildenhall: It's almost startling how Miley Cyrus seems to have opted out of the illusion of notoriety just as easily as she bluntly manufactured it. All that carry-on a few years ago pierced consciousnesses beyond common pop-cultural bounds, but it was only ever a moment. The narrative needn't be rounded out: from the media to the media-averse, the uninvested most likely made their money and moved on, or simply forgot. Teflon controversy and the allegedly anarchic give way to breezy spirituality, a break with the past is used as water and not petrol on the flames, and short memories are harnessed. Miley Cyrus sounds like she's forgotten she cared, and that she wants you to do the same. [8]
