My Ripley/Hicks Masterpost
Because I realized there is a chronology here! Post Aliens, ignores all movies after it. Hicks and Newt are still alive, Bishop’s repaired, everyone’s back on Earth and suffering from PTSD. Except Jones, the little shithead.

Ripley/Hicks Spring Edition
One peaceful spring morning, Ripley opens her eyes to sunlight filtering into the bedroom through the curtains, and as she slowly starts to wake up, Hicks also wakes up. It’s quiet enough that they can practically hear each other’s heartbeats. They’re lying close together, skin against skin, legs tangled together, and they wake up slowly and smiling, and feeling completely at peace.
Ripley and Hicks go out on a romantic walk in a nearby woods to appreciate the sight of the flowers when they come across a flower meadow. They end up taking a detour into the meadow to just enjoy the flowers and talk, and it quickly becomes a favourite place for the both of them.
Hicks tries to surprise Ripley with fresh flowers every now and then, and sometimes, Ripley has the same idea. So on some days, they end up giving each other small bouquets of flowers.
Newt learns how to ride her own bike, courtesy of both Ripley and Hicks, since she never had one in Hadley’s Hope. Hicks also takes her out so she can buy a new bike for herself, and Bishop even teaches her how to repair her bike if she breaks it. Soon, biking together with either Ripley or Hicks becomes one of Newt’s favourite spring activities.
On Mother’s Day, Hicks and Newt make breakfast for Ripley together; Hicks also helps Newt in making a homemade card for her, and later on, they all go on a family bike ride; of course, Ripley really loves it and appreciates their efforts.
During a rainy day, when Newt comes home from school early, she and Bishop like to do arts and crafts together; they both do some painting together, make some crafts stuff, and then they clean everything up together before Ripley and Hicks come home from work.
Sometimes, Ripley likes to do gardening as a way of coping with her trauma and guilt. Her interest starts when she buys lilac and rock rose seeds, and then she plants and cares for them, with Hicks and Newt’s help, until they bloom into beautiful flowers. And Ripley feels a sense of pride over her new blossoms.
Speaking of blossoms, on a date night, Hicks takes Ripley to look at cherry blossoms in the park; a few years ago, when his previous squad was still alive, he’d been stationed in Japan; there, he’d attended a hanami celebration in Tokyo and really grew to appreciate the beauty of cherry blossoms, so he wants to show them to Ripley. Of course, Ripley also really loves the sight, and when Hicks explains the meaning behind the cherry blossoms, she also gains a new appreciation for them.
On Father’s Day, Ripley and Newt make breakfast for Hicks together; again, they also make a homemade card for him together, and then later on, they all go to a shooting range as a family. The three of them also make a card for Bishop, since he’s basically a part of the family now and deserves to be appreciated; Bishop is so touched by the gesture, especially how they consider him part of the family.

He groaned as he came to, and she sat up straighter in her chair, setting the tablet aside. As his eyes opened, she pushed the button to bring the head of his bed up a little, because she knew he’d try to sit up, and also that he shouldn’t.
“Ellen?” he asked groggily, head flopping in her direction.
She blinked. He never called her that in public. Hell, he never called her that outside their shared moments in a bedroom they’d started sharing more out of necessity than romance. But he’d said it, so she’d respond likewise.
Still, she was quiet with it. “I’m right here, Dwayne.” She laid a hand on his arm.
“I feel like shit,” he groaned. “Don’t they have painkillers here?”
“They do, you’re already on them.”
He winced. “Great.”
She slid her hand down his arm, took his hand in both of hers and gave it a light squeeze. “Dr. Lau said it went well.”
“I’ll take his word for that,” he replied. “Hard to tell right now. And there’s still...”
She interrupted him. “Don’t worry about the cost right now. You worry about getting better. You’ve needed the bio-heart for a while now.” She didn’t say how long.
“Yeah, I know.” And he didn’t say why.
Neither of them discussed why he’d waited either. Back in the US, back when they were fresh from LV-426, he could’ve gotten the biomechanical heart implanted for a low cost, because it had happened on duty, on an official mission for the USCMC and The Company.
But it would have also meant being sedated in a hospital that The Company practically owned. It would have been the exact definition of letting his guard down. It might have meant he would conveniently “not wake up”.
“How’s the kid?” he asked instead.
She smiled. “Fine. She got her official name change.”
“Let me guess: she’s Ellen now, too?”
She chuckled. “No. She’s Jordan.”
His brow furrowed. “What?”
“She’s Jordan Ripley. To remember the past, but not be tied to it.”
“I’m still calling her ‘Newt’.”
“She still wants to be called ‘Newt’,” she reassured him.
“Bishop and the shithead?”
“Don’t call Jones that!” she retorted in mock-outrage.
“Why not? He is.”
She snorted. He could very well have pointed out that she called him a little shithead on a regular basis.
“He’s fine. Bishop’s fine. He likes his new job.”
“At least one of us does.”
Hicks was a mall cop, which he hated, but it was low-profile, no security clearance to file for, and it was a steady, if not lucrative, paycheck. Bishop had landed a security job as well, but at an R&D center. They only cared about model number and capabilities; most people still didn’t bother running security checks on artificial people. His paycheck was also steady, and much larger.
And Ripley was back at the docks. She felt safe in a powerloader, even if she sometimes had brief flashbacks of flashing teeth and acidic slime. Not exactly a glamorous job, but at the end of the day, she at least had a sense of achievement: this many boxes loaded or unloaded, that many shipments sent off. Her paycheck fluctuated based on the work - sometimes she got sent home if there wasn’t enough to do that day - but there was a union to make sure she got HK minwage each check, at least.
“I still think it was too soon,” he said quietly.
“No,” she insisted. “You needed this. You heard the doctor. Your heart was too damaged to keep going much longer otherwise.”
He sighed. “I know, but...”
“We’ll figure out the money,” she told him. “Stop it.”
“Fine. I’m too tired.”
She stood, keeping hold of his hand with one of her own, and leaned in to kiss his cheek. “Get some sleep.”
“And don’t dream?” he asked with a wry grin. He’d heard it enough times.
So instead she said, “And dream only of good things.”
“Oh, so... you then.”
She blushed. “Stop being charming and go to sleep.” She tried to pull away, to go sit down in the chair again, but he gripped her hand tight.
“Hey,” he said. “Bio-heart or not... it’s still yours.”
She stared at him, blush roaring into full flame on her cheeks. “Dwayne, that’s...”
“You don’t have to say anything. You just have to know.”
She leaned in and kissed him, on the lips this time. “I love you, too,” she whispered. Then she stood up straight and ordered, “Now sleep.”
“Affirmative,” he said with a wink and a yawn.
She shook her head, reclined the bed for him and went back to her chair. She picked up her tablet and tried to resume reading, but his words ran over and over through her head and heart. She sat there and smiled.

Ripley/Hicks Winter Edition
During the first snowfall of the season, Newt gets super excited for winter and Christmas and all that fun stuff.
One weekend, Bishop and Newt make their presents for Ripley and Hicks while they’re at work, and they make sure to wrap them before they come home.
At night, Ripley finds herself moving closer to Hicks quite a bit because he’s almost like a human space heater, which is very much needed in the cold winter nights.
On a particularly cold day, Ripley and Hicks take a candlelit bath as a way of warming up together in the evening, which ends up being more romantic than either of them thought it would be; and when Hicks starts kissing Ripley’s neck, it puts the both of them in the mood, so they end up making love after their bath is finished.
One cold evening, when Ripley and Hicks are on a walk, Hicks notices that Ripley isn’t wearing any gloves. Turns out that she accidentally spilled coffee on her gloves and they’re still in the laundry. So Hicks just takes her hands in his own to try and warm them up.
Ripley, Hicks, Newt, and Bishop all decorate the tree together. Jonesy the cat gets tangled up in the lights at some point, which makes Ripley laugh in a way she hasn’t since Kane had an alien burst out of his chest on that fateful voyage, which makes Hicks smile, since Ripley has a nice laugh. Bishop has made special ornaments for each member of the family, and at the end, Hicks lifts Newt up so she can put the star at the top of the tree.
One very cold day, Newt decides to build a pillow and blanket fort in the living room, so Ripley, Hicks, and Bishop help her out with it. And when they’ve finished, they all just gather underneath the fort and spend the rest of the day there.
At some point, the USCM holds a Christmas banquet and Hicks’s new unit is invited, and he brings Ripley along as a date. There, she gets to meet his squadmates, some of the officers, and she also has a nice time dressing up a little bit since it’s been a long time since she last dressed up. And when Hicks sees her in a formal gown, he can’t help but blush a little, which makes Ripley feel a little proud.
On Christmas Day, Newt is the one to wake everyone up for opening up presents, and she even manages to wait patiently for everyone to fully wake up and get ready before she opens her presents. Gifts are simple but meaningful for everyone; nothing too extravagant or cheap. Newt gives everyone scarves that she knitted together with Bishop (thanks to @braincoins for this idea!), and both Ripley and Hicks love them the most.
BONUS: January 7th is Ripley’s birthday (her official one), and with her new family, it’s the best birthday she’s celebrated. Newt, Hicks, and Bishop make her breakfast, and later on, Hicks takes Ripley out for dinner. He also has his own gifts to give her: a book with fifty things he loves about her, a necklace, and of course, something sexy: himself in boxer briefs, which he made sure to choose in Ripley’s favourite colour. Ripley definitely enjoys the sight, of course, and the night ends on a pretty romantic and steamy note.

Ripley/Hicks Fall Edition
Fall is Newt’s favourite season, hands down. She gets so excited during the fall, especially for Halloween, that it kinda rubs off on Ripley, Hicks, and Bishop as well.
One of Ripley’s favourite things to do throughout October (especially around Halloween) is just watch some cheesy sci-fi/horror B-movies from the 20th century (stuff like Plan 9 from Outer Space, Space Mutiny, generally the “So Bad It’s Good” movies, though she makes sure to choose movies with less or no body horror), so she shows Hicks some of her favourites. While Ripley enjoys them, Hicks is a little confused, but he gradually sees the charm in the lame effects, bad acting, and overall cheesiness that Ripley loves.
When Hicks is on leave, he and Ripley take frequent walks in the park just to enjoy the crisp air and the sight of the pretty leaves falling from the trees. And sometimes, they take moonlight walks in the park, and it’s perhaps even more romantic than a summer night walk.
One day, Newt comes home with an assignment to find a good pumpkin for carving at school, so Ripley and Hicks take her to a patch to find a pumpkin. There, they also teach Newt how to carve a pumpkin, and for a moment, Ripley remembers doing this with Amanda almost a lifetime ago, and she gets a little misty-eyed. But she’s more than happy to do this again with her newfound family, and it ends up being a fun afternoon.
During one of their evening walks, Ripley finds herself feeling colder than usual. Hicks notices this and, despite her reassurances that she’s fine, he gives her his scarf to warm her up a little more.
When the sweater weather comes, Hicks starts a fire in the fireplace, and he, Ripley, and Newt just sit by the fire on a particularly chilly evening, wearing sweaters and drinking homemade apple cider.
As Halloween comes nearer, Ripley gets invited for a Halloween party with her new colleagues (and it happens to be during a time when Hicks is on leave), so she brings Hicks as a date. They don’t dress up too elaborately, but they have a good time together.
On Halloween, when Newt goes trick-or-treating with her friends, both Ripley and Hicks make sure that Newt is wearing the locator bracelet, mainly as a safety precaution. Is it overprotective? Yes, but Newt does understand why they want her to wear it. And she makes sure to come back early, get her candy checked, and then she just goes straight to bed, since she’s so tired from all the walking.
Once Newt is in bed, Ripley and Hicks just wind down and go to bed together, wrapped up in each other’s warmth and in a fleecy blanket. Sure, they go to bed early these days, but on a chilly night, it’s absolutely perfect.

Ripley/Hicks Summer Edition
When the weather is nice and Hicks is on leave, he takes Ripley and Newt to the beach. There, he teaches Newt how to swim, and Ripley watches from the shore with a smile.
Sometimes, Hicks takes Ripley alone to the beach, especially at sunset, where the both of them will just take a walk along the shore and hold hands while enjoying the evening breeze. It’s also an opportunity for them to steal kisses like a young couple in love.
One night, when Bishop has agreed to babysit Newt, Ripley and Hicks go on a drive to a prairie away from the city in a pickup truck, and they then just gather some blankets, put them in the back of the truck, and lie down there to watch the stars together, and they find themselves reminiscing over old memories. By the time they come back home, it’s pretty late.
On one weekend, when Newt is using her sidewalk chalk to draw on the ground outside, she makes Ripley and Hicks join her and play with the sidewalk chalk as well. In the end, it turns out to be a fun, family-bonding time for the three of them.
Summer morning workouts become a big thing for the both of them when Hicks is on leave, especially early morning runs. Both Ripley and Hicks are able to enjoy the sunrise, the cool morning weather, and the way the world slowly comes to life. Plus, they sometimes steal kisses during their breaks.
One afternoon, when the weather is really hot, Ripley and Hicks just end up taking a nap on the couch, and then Newt joins in and snuggles in between them so she can also take a nap.
During a midnight thunderstorm one night, Ripley opens up the curtains and she and Hicks make love while the rain pours on the rooftops and lightning flashes in the sky. It’s pretty intense, and they both end up enjoying it.
And that’s all I have for now. Feel free to add more if you want~!
What do you think? @chryseis @glimmerclouddragon @braincoins

Post-Aliens Ripley/Hicks headcanons
Here are some headcanons for Ripley and Hicks when they got back to Earth and acted upon the chemistry that developed between them on LV-426!
(Please excuse the sweetness; I’m a romantic at heart and these two just give me a lot of feels right now)
Ripley is the one to ask Hicks out on a date; it surprised him since he’d also been planning on asking her out, but he’s happy to go out with her, of course.
Their first date is casual; it consists of dinner at a small restaurant and a walk, during which they tell each other pretty much everything about their lives and realize that they both have a few things in common; they both like summer nights and watching the stars, for example.
As they continue dating, Ripley learns just how much she likes the warmth she feels whenever she’s with Hicks; she loves how he’s both strong and firm, yet thoughtful and gentle at the same time, she loves the glint in his eyes whenever he looks at her, hell, she loves the way he looks at her, as if she is something precious. It makes her feel cherished, warm, and safe, three things she hadn’t felt in so long. He makes her feel more human, period.
Meanwhile, Hicks feels the same warmth when he’s with Ripley, and he learns just how much he likes it; he loves how Ripley is both strong and caring at the same time, he loves the way her eyes soften when she smiles, he loves her smile, actually. It’s rather rare to see Ripley smile, but when she smiles, it’s so warm and sincere and when she smiles at Hicks, he feels honoured that she can open herself up to him like that.
When they kiss for the first time, it’s one of the best feelings for the both of them; Ripley hasn’t felt her heart go aflutter in such a long time and she loves the way Hicks kisses (and he’s a damn good kisser if you ask her); Hicks loves the way Ripley held onto him when they kissed and the way she smiled afterwards; it’s like they’re teenagers all over again, yet they both like it.
They both have nightmares from their ordeal on LV-426; while Ripley’s aren’t as frequent as from when she woke up from cryosleep, Hicks, on the other hand, has severe nightmares in the first few weeks after they return to Earth; to help, Ripley just lies down next to him at night and holds him close; slowly, Hicks’s nightmares disappear and he gets used to holding Ripley close to him. It becomes a routine afterwards, and neither of them are complaining.
Perhaps the most formal date they go on is a military ball; it’s perhaps the first time that Ripley has dressed up so nicely since she cannot remember the last time she dressed up for a formal occasion. When Hicks sees her in a dress, he has the same look as the time when he saw her in the power loader, and Ripley can’t help but feel really beautiful because between her career and dealing with aliens, she hasn’t really thought of herself as much to look at. But Hicks makes her feel so damn gorgeous with the way he looks at her and he sincerely tells her that she’s beautiful, which makes her fluster like a teenager again; at the same time, Ripley also really appreciates how handsome Hicks looks in dress blues so she tells him that he looks handsome; Hicks suddenly becomes as shy as a schoolboy and Ripley can’t help but laugh fondly. And at the ball, they both share a slow dance together.
Their first time in bed is definitely something to remember. They take their time undressing and kissing each other, then Ripley gently pushes Hicks back onto the bed and straddles him, since she’s mostly a Top (like I mentioned here). She tells him, “show me everything, Dwayne. I can handle myself”, and Hicks can’t help but smile because he’s so turned on right now and god he loves this woman so much; the sex is so passionate and hot, and so sweet and sensual and emotionally-satisfying at the same time and Ripley loves the way Hicks looks at her like she’s a ray of light in a dark and cruel world, the way he kisses her so tenderly and passionately, and the way he whispers her first name so reverently along with those three words: “I love you”. She gets kind of emotional because holy damn how did she get so lucky to love such an amazing man like Dwayne Hicks and this thought just sends her over the edge and she holds onto Hicks’s hand as they both reach their climax. And in the afterglow, Ripley takes one of his arms and places it around her, which makes Hicks smile and he holds her close as they fall asleep in each other’s arms.
Another memorable time for them is when Hicks tops Ripley for the first time; Ripley has had a long day, she’s tired, she just wants to be taken care of, and when Hicks sees this, he tells her, “hey, why don’t you let me take care of you tonight?”. And like what @braincoins said, Ripley already trusts him so she can just let herself be more vulnerable to him so she’s more than happy to let him top her. But boy, is she totally unprepared for what Hicks is like when he tops her; he's very passionate and sincere in pleasing Ripley and he’s not too rough, but not too gentle either, and she likes that a lot. He kisses her so ardently as he thrusts in and out of her and it just gets kind of emotional for Ripley, especially when Hicks takes her hand in his own as they both come. And during the afterglow, as Hicks is just resting his head on Ripley’s chest, he feels her tremble slightly and he looks up only to see that Ripley’s eyes are a little teary and her breath is coming out in shaky sobs, which gets him worried at first but then she reassures him that she’s fine, it was just very intense. And Hicks realizes that Ripley’s letting herself be overcome with raw emotions because she trusts, no, she loves Hicks so much, and in that moment, he’s grateful to have her in his life. So he just lays down next to her and holds her close, and he feels his heart beat just a little faster when she says, “I love you” to him.
God help me, I’m having so many feels about these two and their life together; they deserve a life of happiness and peace, dammit!

Video
Would you like me to link the fan-video I found?
youtube
Okay, so I was listening to the song ‘Beautiful Life’ by Armin van Buuren and I couldn’t help but notice how much this song is perfect for Ripley/Hicks, especially from Hicks’ view on Ripley. I know I put this on a playlist for these two, but I just wanted to elaborate more on why this song is so perfect for them. I mean, it’s also partly because I heard this song in a fan video of the two, but just read the lyrics and you’ll see what I mean.
Some people keep wondering Some people run without knowing Some people never found the answer The answer
Okay, Corporal Dwayne Hicks is clearly intrigued by Ellen Ripley from the moment they wake up from stasis on the Sulaco. He doesn’t know much about her, but he knows that she has gone through a lot of pain and trauma, and that she’s trying to gain closure to everything that’s happened to her.
Come and step into the light Let the beat into your heart I am falling now into this dream Let the music guide you to me Cause now I feel everything for the first time
And as he gradually learns more about her during their time together on the Sulaco, in the drop-ship, the APC, the colony, Hicks slowly grows to not only respect Ripley, but also admire her quite a bit, especially after hearing how she survived such deadly monsters and seeing her handle the power loader so confidently (he can’t help but smile every time he remembers that). Now he wants her to slowly open up to him and gain her trust in him because she’s so strong and graceful, yet at the same time, she’s vulnerable from the trauma and while he knows that she’s a capable woman, he also feels somewhat protective towards her. While he’s confused, he doesn’t really question those feelings and then before he knows it, he’s just like, “oh damn, did I just fall in love with her??” when he gives her the tracker bracelet and teaches her to use the pulse rifle.
It’s such a beautiful, beautiful life When every day is made of you and I Oh oh Just close your eyes And we could dance tonight forever
Dance tonight forever
And of course, they can’t exactly dance, since they’re in an alien-infested colony, but Ripley has grown to trust Hicks after he calmed her down in the APC, supported her plan in nuking the Xenomorph nest, and also saved her from the facehuggers. And at this point, right as Ripley leaves to save Newt, Hicks is starting to consider what life would be like with Ripley and he comes to the conclusion that it would indeed be a beautiful life with her. So before he closes his eyes to rest and heal, he decides that he wants to spend every day of his life with Ripley together. So he offers his first name to her, to show her that he trusts her, and he’s pleased when Ripley gives him her first name because it means she reciprocates this trust. And just as unconsciousness takes over, he knows that his mind has been made up. He looked forward to spending more time with her after this whole nightmare is over.
And we all know what happens afterwards! They all head home safe and sound, and Hicks and Ripley manage to not only become Newt’s parents, but they finally act upon these feelings and have a beautiful life together that is peaceful and free of Xenomorphs.
And that’s it, everyone, on why ‘Beautiful Life’ is the perfect song that describes Hicks’ feelings for Ripley. Next up will be a commentary on the song ‘Waiting for the Night’, also by Armin van Buuren, and why that’s the perfect song which describes Ripley’s feelings for Hicks.
What do you think, @glimmerclouddragon @estherblodgett78 @chezalp @thewightknight?

Jonesy also lives with Ripley, Hicks, Newt, and Bishop in their idyllic, halcyon days on Earth. That is the true ending that everyone deserves.
