Last night I was lucky enough to watch Ekvinocijo (Equinox), a play which is on for 5 days as part of Dubrovnik Summer Festival.
I originally bought a ticket (and a holiday in Dubrovnik) as it was a rare chance to see Goran Višnjić in theatre and I was not disappointed. He gave a strong, energetic performance which was top-notch, along with an equally brilliant and moving performance by his co-star, Zrinka Cvitešić.
The play was performed in the Croatian language, luckily I've been learning it for a while and so, while it definitely didn't all make sense (I completely missed one major plot point and thought someone was dead when they weren't) I still had a good idea what was happening and followed the storyline pretty well!
The acting from all cast members was fab, costumes, sound, the set and the staging were all very effective. It was performed outside in Dubrovnik's old port which worked so well for the storyline.
If you ever get the chance to see Goran act in theatre then go for it, it's always great to see your favourite actor on stage just a few feet away and feel the different energy a live performance enjoys. Goran did great (he plays a villain so well!)
I love the idea and energy of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival too, I will have to keep an eye on future events if I manage to be here in the summer again.

FIC REC WEEK 26 – ROM-COM
SERIES: A Royal Romance by BladeoftheNebula
Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: E Words: 40,452 Tags: Modern Royalty AU, News Media, Pre-Serum Steve
Reasons why I love it: This could legit be made into a Rom-Com, and everyone would gobble it up like royal wedding cake. Seriously, if you like modern royalty romance, this is an absolute must-read. It's fluffy and funny and more swoon-worthy with every fic that gets added to the story. Please go and check it out, I promise you won't regret it!
This series consists of:
Heavy is the Head that wears the Crown
Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: T Words: 22,293 Tags: Romance, Getting Together, Hurt/Comfort
Summary: “Just remember, and this is essential, you call the King ‘Your Majesty’ during the first introduction and afterwards it’s ‘sir’. Queen Maria is likewise ‘Your Majesty’ and thereafter ‘ma’am’, and Prince Anthony is ‘your royal highness, the Prince of Wales’, and ‘sir’ thereafter.” Steve was never going to remember all this. Thank god he was never going to meet any of them. -- When Steve Rogers moved to London he was expecting the bad overpriced flat and the metric system. What he never could've expected was that the heir to the throne would fall for a skinny asthmatic from Brooklyn.
Reasons why I love it: This fic has everything. A meet-cute, romance, drama, angst, fluff, humor – it's a smorgasbord of everything I love. The whole thing just puts the biggest smile on my face. If you haven't read this one, you absolutely have to. I can guarantee that it'll suck you into the rest of the series.
Royal Lockdown
Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: G Words: 2,136 Tags: Fluff, COVID-19, Quarantine
Summary: “Your majesty, please,” the palace advisor, Mr. Collins, begged, sounding more and more frustrated. “It’s hardly without precedence. Your grandfather evacuated during the blitz. A king should be protected.” “My grandfather was at risk of being bombed,” Tony dismissed. “This is something we can fight by simply staying put. We can set a good example by self-isolating and not travelling unnecessarily.” -- Not even Kings and their consorts are unaffected by the global pandemic - and Steve is determined to be part of the solution.
Reasons why I love it: Oh my god, Steve is such a little shit, and I love him for it. So does Tony, clearly, considering how happy he makes Steve with his little monetary investment there. I love this fic, and you should definitely read it!
Rules of Engagement
Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: T Words: 10,689 Tags: Humor, Weddings, Paparazzi
Summary: It's the most highly anticipated event of the year: the Royal Wedding Steve Rogers, formerly of Brooklyn, will finally marry his King Charming ...provided they can survive the tabloids, annoying relatives and the occasional swan
Reasons why I love it: I laughed so hard at all of the media formats in this – they really take this fic to a whole other level, it's so good. In general this fic is really goddamn funny and sweet besides, so if you need a good laugh today, put it on your list.
Dancing in Dubrovnik
Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: E Words: 5,334 Tags: Beach Holiday, Tourism, Humor and Fluff
Summary: “We haven’t really had a chance to talk about the elephant in the room,” Tony murmured, his chest humming against Steve’s cheek. Steve sighed, even as they rocked from side to side. “I know. I’ve been avoiding it if I’m honest.” He tilted his head to look at Tony, giving him a wobbly smile. “Sorry.” -- King Anthony and his consort Steve go on holiday in Croatia and have some Real™️ Talk.
Reasons why I love it: What a lovely vacation they're having, I'm kind of jealous. I love all of the friendship feels in this, Rhodey especially cracked me up several times. And oh my god, the dancing scene? Goes from sweet to hot as hell in the blink of an eye, and I am SO here for it. I love this whole series, and you should definitely read it, if you haven't already!

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday hailed the ‘Dubrovnik Declaration’ of support for his country by political leaders from 12 Balkan and south-east European states, which comes as Ukraine faces increasing pressure on the battlefield.
The declaration, agreed at the Ukraine South-East Europe Summit in the Croatian coastal city of Dubrovnik, reaffirms “support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders” and for Kyiv’s efforts to move towards EU membership.
Zelensky told a press conference that the declaration shows that “the region wholeheartedly supports Ukraine and this sends a clear message to the whole of south-east Europe, which stands for real peace and not just freezing the results of this war”.
The declaration also voices support for Ukraine’s ambitions to join NATO, and its desire to bring justice for war crimes committed during the “unprovoked, unjustifiable and illegal Russian war of aggression against Ukraine”.
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said that Zagreb will continue to provide political, humanitarian, economic and military aid to Ukraine and strongly support its European path.
“Ukraine was among the first countries to recognise the Republic of Croatia in the nineties, and today it is defending its freedom,” said Plenkovic.
As well as Zelensky and Plenkovic, the Dubrovnik Declaration was endorsed by several presidents from the region who attended the summit: Kosovo’s Vjosa Osmani, Montenegro’s Jakov Milatovic, Serbia’s Aleksandar Vucic and Slovenia’s Natasa Pirc Musar.
It was also endorsed by various regional prime ministers: Albania’s Edi Rama, Bulgaria’s Dimitar Glavchev, Greece’s Kyriakos Mitsotakis, North Macedonia’s Hristijan Mickoski and the chair of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Council of Ministers, Borjana Kristo.
Plenkovic and Zelensky also signed a bilateral agreement of Croatian support for Ukraine, which says that Zagreb will stand by Kyiv “until Ukraine prevails”, and endorses sanctions against Russia.
“The participants [Ukraine and Croatia] recognise the value of sanctions in limiting the access of the Russian Federation and other aggressor states to finance, goods, technology and services used in aggression, and to deter future attacks,” it says.
Zelensky expressed gratitude for the 11 aid packages from Croatia that have arrived in Ukraine so far, saying that this “helped the defence capacity of our country”. He called on Croatia to invest in Ukrainian industry, especially the production of drones.
Croatian President Zoran Milanovic, whose has voiced scepticism about support for Ukraine, was not invited to the event in Dubrovnik. Milanovic and Prime Minister Plenkovic have clashed before over foreign policy and relations with Ukraine and NATO.
The last-minute arrival of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic also raised eyebrows among some observers, as his administration is seen as friendly with the Kremlin and refuses to join EU sanctions against Russia, although it has also voiced support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
Serbian media reported that Vucic’s attendance was conditional on the declaration not mentioning sanctions against Russia, but Croatian Minister of Foreign Affairs Gordan Grlic Radman stated that he didn’t have that information.
The declaration does not mention sanctions but does urge countries worldwide “not to provide material or other support for Russia’s war of aggression”.
After the Summit, Vucic told a press conference that at Serbia’s request, the declaration does not mention military aid for Ukraine.
“We concentrated on territorial integrity and respect for the UN Charter,” he said.

August 1
Well it was the last night of "Equinox" last night and we still seem to be getting bits and pieces from and about it.
Not sure if this is from the last performance but I'm always ready for a round of applause for Goran.
Few pics from Goran's instagram:
Always nice when my #er family stops by #croatia #dubrovnik @theshanewest 😊😎😉
Pics from a radio interview with HRT Radio Dubrovnik.
Another positively stunning update to the Goran Visnjic Archive to start the month with a tantalising POTM!
I seem to have gained a few new followers recently - thank you - so I am noting below my latest story in case they missed it earlier. The story is complete despite the ridiculous "Chapter 1" wording that appears in the heading.
Summary:
A.U. The ‘smitten kitten’ returns; No slow burn here but “instant combustion”; a freak event occurs during Lucy and Dave’s rescue of Flynn and they’re forced to seek safety; Flynn gets his Cocoa Puffs and a LOT more! Dave aids the lovers and is an absolute darling; a new home for the team; Lucy has her own room and Flynn will bunk with Dave (well, some of the time!); For aficionados, scruff and ‘the wiggle‘ are included; Consensual protected sex. Some sexual innuendo, thoughts and dialogue. No angst. Only happy Garcy. Some fluff to cheer us in the gloom of these times. 17 chapters mostly short. Wyatt has been re-arrested for desertion and dereliction of duty and Jessica never enters the bunker. Dave Baumgardner has replaced him.
Hello everyone, everywhere. it's Thursday I think.
2024 OLYMPICS: Congratulations to Donna Vekic for getting to the women's semi-finals in the tennis last night.
Hope your day goes as you would wish it to.

2022 in review / plans for 2023
The most significant thing that happened to me in 2022 was my father's passing in May. He had a good life and a good death, and I have no regrets about any of it. I know that my dad loved me and was very proud of me, and I was happy to be able to be there with him in his last days. But dealing with the event really shook me up and I haven't written a word of fiction since then. On the other hand, once I dealt with the paperwork (and there are still, seven months later, a couple of outstanding accounts to be dealt with) I found that my life had changed substantially in several very positive ways. One is that I have had a powerful reminder that life and health are finite and that we all need to spend time with the people we love, do the things that bring us joy, and take opportunities when they arise. Another is that I no longer have to devote the time and energy that my father's care have taken -- an increasing burden, though never overwhelming -- in the last few years. And another is that the money in my dad's accounts, which I had been managing with the assumption that he could live to as much as 100 with increasing medical expenses, was now no longer needed for those purposes. So I've been doing a lot of traveling. Travel is my favorite thing to do with my time and money, and is what Kate and I retired to do. In the past five months I've been to Chicago for the Worldcon and the Papal Election Simulation, Dubrovnik and Rome, Disneyland, New Orleans for the World Fantasy Convention, Madison for Teslacon, New York for Broadway, and Ashland for the Shakespeare Festival (twice) plus several events in town and nearby. All of these were happily shared with friends and lovers. It's been delightful. I've also been making substantial donations to people and organizations that matter to me. I joke about "the David D. Levine Foundation for Theatre, Science Fiction, and Sexual Minorities, AKA The Geeks & Queers Fund," and although there's no actual foundation, that's not too far off the truth. A lot of this year's donations were one-time contributions (including the xestablishment of a scholarship in my father's name), but with what remains I'll be able to make a difference going forward. This giving is, to me, kind of a form of Retail Therapy but without having to deal with the things purchased. It feels good. In 2023 I hope to keep traveling, keep spending time with the people I love, and keep contributing to people and causes that matter to me. I also hope to get back on the writing horse. I have a goal of writing something every day, which I'll be starting on right after posting this, but I'm trying to be realistic and not doctrinaire about it -- I have a calendar where I'll be putting a star on every writing day and my metric is "I should be able to look at the calendar and not feel embarrassed." I'm also applying a similar metric to exercise. Another writing goal for 2023 is to support the publication of my SF novel The Kuiper Belt Job, expected to be published by Caezik SF & Fantasy in Septemer. A prequel novelette, "The Bucket Shop Job," will be appearing in the January/February issue of F&SF, and I expect editorial comments on the novel to arrive in my mailbox any time now. And I hope to complete a draft of the "Vaudeville with Aliens" novel I've been working on since 2021 before the end of the year (fingers crossed).

Your Croatian Adventure Awaits: How Travel Planners Can Make It Unforgettable
Croatia, with its stunning Adriatic coastline, historic cities, and vibrant culture, has become a must-visit destination for travelers. But to truly experience all this Mediterranean gem has to offer, planning is key. That’s where travel planners come in. Here’s how these professionals can transform your Croatian adventure from a simple getaway into an unforgettable journey.
Tailored Itineraries for Unique Experiences
Croatia’s diverse landscapes and attractions can be overwhelming. A travel planner’s expertise lies in crafting personalized itineraries that align with your interests and preferences. Whether you're drawn to the medieval charm of Dubrovnik, the scenic beauty of Plitvice Lakes National Park, or the vibrant nightlife of Split, a travel planner can design an itinerary that ensures you don’t miss out on the highlights that matter most to you.
Insider Access to Hidden Gems
While Croatia’s popular spots like Dubrovnik and Hvar are well-known, a travel planner can also guide you to lesser-known treasures. These include secluded beaches, quaint villages, and off-the-beaten-path attractions that provide a more intimate and authentic experience of the country. Imagine discovering a hidden vineyard in Istria or a secret cove on one of the Dalmatian Islands—these are the kinds of exclusive experiences that a knowledgeable travel planner can offer. More information on adventurescroatia.com.
Stress-Free Travel Arrangements
Traveling to a foreign country involves numerous logistical details, from booking flights and accommodations to arranging transportation and activities. A travel planner handles these complexities, allowing you to focus on enjoying your trip rather than managing the details. They can secure the best deals, ensure smooth transfers, and provide support if any issues arise, making your Croatian adventure as seamless and stress-free as possible.
Local Expertise and Cultural Insights
One of the greatest advantages of working with a travel planner is their local knowledge. They provide valuable insights into Croatian culture, customs, and etiquette, enhancing your overall experience. Whether it’s knowing the best time to visit popular sites to avoid crowds or understanding local dining customs, their expertise helps you immerse yourself fully in the Croatian way of life.
Customized Experiences for All Interests
Croatia offers a wide range of activities and experiences, from adventurous outdoor pursuits to relaxing beach days and cultural excursions. A travel planner can tailor your trip to suit your specific interests. For instance, if you’re a history buff, they might arrange guided tours of ancient ruins and medieval fortresses. If you’re a food enthusiast, they could plan culinary tours or cooking classes to sample the best of Croatian cuisine.
Safety and Support
Travel planners are not just about planning—they’re also there for you during your trip. Should any issues or unexpected events arise, having a local contact can be incredibly reassuring. They can provide support and advice, helping you navigate any challenges and ensuring your trip remains enjoyable and safe.
Sustainable and Responsible Travel
Increasingly, travelers are seeking ways to make their journeys more sustainable and responsible. A travel planner can help you choose eco-friendly accommodations, support local businesses, and engage in responsible tourism practices. By opting for sustainable travel options, you contribute positively to the destinations you visit, leaving them as beautiful as you found them.
Maximizing Your Time
With so many attractions and activities in Croatia, it’s easy to feel like there isn’t enough time to see and do everything. A travel planner helps maximize your time by organizing your schedule efficiently. They know how to prioritize must-see spots, avoid long lines, and make the most of your visit, ensuring you experience the best Croatia has to offer without feeling rushed.
Conclusion
Croatia’s allure lies in its combination of natural beauty, historical richness, and vibrant culture. By enlisting the help of a travel planner, you can unlock the full potential of your Croatian adventure. From crafting personalized itineraries to providing local insights and ensuring a stress-free experience, travel planners are key to making your trip truly unforgettable. So, embark on your Croatian journey with confidence, knowing that expert guidance will make every moment of your adventure exceptional.

Goran Višnjić appeared in an unrecognizable edition in the last season of the Netflix series " Vikings: Valhalla"
Goran Višnjić appeared in an unrecognizable edition in the last season of the Netflix series " Vikings: Valhalla"
Our famous actor joined the cast of the well-known historical series, which will be shown on July 11, the day after the opening of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, where he will play in the play "Equinocija".
In addition to the fact that we will be able to see our famous actor Goran Višnjić this summer after a long time at the Dubrovnik Summer Games in the play "Equinocija", the series "Vikings: Valhalla" will arrive on Netflix next week, in which he plays Erik the Red, the father of Leif Eriksson and Freydis Eriksdotter.
Višnjić is an actor reinforcement in the series whose first season was shown in 2022, and this season was also announced as the last of this historical saga.
"This is going to be fun. I can't wait. Didn't you love the first season of Vikings? It's great," Višnjić wrote on his social networks back in 2022 when he learned that he would be starring in the series, and these days he boasted of scenes from the series in which he appears unrecognizable, like a real long-haired and long-bearded Viking.
The plot of the last season is set in England, 100 years after the events of the first part of the series, and deals with the tensions between the descendants of the Vikings and the native English. Our celebrated mask master Ana Bulajić Črček also worked on the series , and part of the series was filmed in Dubrovnik.
These days, Goran Višnjić is staying in his native Šibenik, and in a few days he will go to Dubrovnik, where the last rehearsals for Vojnović's "Equinocija" will continue, directed by Krešimir Dolenčić , which will be played at Posat, the newest festival location. In Equinox, Goran will play Nika Marinović, a rich returnee from America, and his partner will be Zrinka Cvitešić , who plays Jele, his youthful love. Thus, for the first time, two local actors with enviable foreign careers will unite their acting forces at the Dubrovnik Summer Games. The play will be in the repertoire from July 27 to 31, after which both Zrinka and Goran go on a well-deserved vacation with their partners and families, and they recently talked about their plans in an interview with Gloria . "I have a vacation with the kids for the whole eighth month, of course, unless something new comes along. You know that our acting work is often unpredictable," Višnjić said.

I knew Erik the Red was the father of Freydis Eriksdotter. I really can't wait for "Vikings: Valhalla" next week to air on Netflix. Stay tuned for screencaps of the show next week!
Have a good week end everyone :)

South-east European political leaders including three presidents, five prime ministers and four foreign ministers are expected to attend the Ukraine South-East Europe summit in Dubrovnik on Wednesday in the Croatian coastal city of Dubrovnik alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“With [Croatian] Prime Minister [Andrej] Plenkovic, we will discuss further defence cooperation, rehabilitation of our warriors wounded on the frontline, as well as Ukraine’s recovery,” Zelensky wrote on X after he arrived.
“At the summit in the Ukraine… we will discuss international efforts to bring peace closer and implement the Peace Formula, our joint response with partners to security challenges, as well as cooperation on the path to the European Union and NATO,” he added.
The summit will show that the “whole region supports Ukraine and the Ukrainian people in the fight for freedom”, Croatian premier Plenkovic said before the event, AFP news agency reported. Plenkovic also pledged that Croatia will continue to help Ukraine militarily.
Croatian President Zoran Milanovic, whose has voiced scepticism about support for Ukraine, was not invited to the event in Dubrovnik.
Milanovic and Prime Minister Plenkovic have clashed before over foreign policy and relations with Ukraine and NATO.
Dubrovnik was under tight security as the event was due to begin, with significantly more police and special units officers than tourists in the streets around the Hotel Excelsior, where the summit is being held. All the access roads in the city centre leading to the venue were cleared of cars, causing traffic problems in the congested city.
The other heads of state expected to attend President Natasa Pirc Musar of Slovenia, President Jakov Milatovic of Montenegro and President Vjosa Osmani of Kosovo.
Also confirmed are five prime ministers: Kyriakos Mitsotakis of Greece, Nikolai Denkov of Bulgaria, Edi Rama of Albania, Dimitar Kovacevski of North Macedonia, and the chair of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borjana Kristo.
Turkey, Serbia, Romania and Moldova will be represented at the level of foreign ministers.
The participants of the summit are to endorse the Dubrovnik Declaration, the text of which is still being negotiated, but it is expected to be similar to earlier declarations from previous Ukraine support summits in Athens (August 2022) and Tirana (February 2024).
The main points are likely to include condemnation of Russian aggression, support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine, including the Crimean peninsula, support for President Zelensky’s peace plan, a call to prosecute war crimes, support for Kyiv’s European integration and NATO membership, and support for the energy security and reconstruction of Ukraine after the end of the war.
