Revolutionize Your Smile with Same Day Dental Implants
The fastest way to restore your teeth with precision and ease
Missing teeth no longer have to disrupt your life for months. With same day dental implants in Dubai, you can leave the clinic with a complete smile in just one appointment. This innovative treatment combines advanced technology and expert care to provide a durable, natural-looking tooth replacement faster than ever before.
Same-day dental implants are designed for individuals seeking immediate results without compromising on quality. Whether it’s a single tooth or multiple teeth, this solution ensures that you regain full functionality and confidence in the shortest time possible.
What makes same-day dental implants different?
Unlike traditional implants that require months of healing before placing a crown, same-day implants allow for immediate restoration. The procedure involves placing a titanium implant into the jawbone and attaching a temporary crown on the same day. This approach provides immediate functionality, allowing you to eat, speak, and smile naturally.
The success of same-day implants lies in precision planning and execution. Advanced 3D imaging and digital tools ensure the implant is placed with absolute accuracy, creating a strong foundation for the crown. This minimizes discomfort and maximizes the success rate of the treatment.
The benefits of same-day implants
Same-day dental implants offer several key benefits:
Immediate Results: Walk out of the clinic with a fully restored smile.
Durability: High-quality materials ensure long-lasting results.
Natural Appearance: Custom crowns are designed to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth.
Convenience: Avoid multiple appointments and lengthy treatment times.
Improved Oral Health: Replacing missing teeth helps prevent bone loss and shifting of surrounding teeth.
This revolutionary treatment is perfect for patients with busy schedules or those looking for quick, reliable solutions to missing teeth.
Who is eligible for same-day implants?
Same-day dental implants are ideal for patients with healthy gums and sufficient jawbone density to support the implant. If you’re unsure about your eligibility, a consultation with a skilled implant specialist will help determine the best approach for your needs. For patients requiring additional treatments, such as bone grafting, a customized plan can be developed to prepare you for the procedure.
The treatment process
Consultation and Assessment: Your dentist will evaluate your oral health and use advanced imaging to create a precise treatment plan.
Implant Placement: A titanium implant is carefully placed into your jawbone using minimally invasive techniques.
Temporary Crown Attachment: A temporary crown is fitted on the same day to restore your smile immediately.
Healing and Final Crown Placement: Once the implant has integrated with your jawbone, a permanent crown is placed for a flawless finish.
Why choose same-day implants in Dubai?
Dubai is a global leader in dental care, offering state-of-the-art clinics and highly experienced professionals. With same-day dental implants, you’ll benefit from cutting-edge technology, personalized care, and exceptional results that enhance both your appearance and quality of life.

Transform Your Smile with Same-Day Dental Implants in Dubai
When it comes to enhancing your smile, dental implants are one of the most effective and long-lasting solutions available. If you’re looking for a fast and efficient way to replace missing teeth, same-day dental implants in Dubai offer a convenient option that provides immediate results. At Albayan Medical Center, we specialize in offering cutting-edge dental solutions, including same-day dental implants, ensuring you leave with a beautiful, fully restored smile.
What Are Same-Day Dental Implants?
Same-day dental implants are a revolutionary dental procedure designed to replace missing or damaged teeth in a single visit. Traditionally, dental implants require multiple appointments and months of healing time, but with same-day dental implants in Dubai, patients can have their implants placed and restored in just one day. This means you can achieve a functional, aesthetic smile without the long wait, making it an ideal solution for busy individuals.
At Albayan Medical Center, we use the latest technology and techniques to ensure the best outcomes for our patients. Our experienced dental team provides personalized care, ensuring that each procedure is tailored to meet the unique needs of the individual.
How Do Same-Day Dental Implants Work?
The procedure for same-day dental implants begins with a thorough consultation at Albayan Medical Center, where we assess your oral health and determine if you’re a good candidate for the treatment. Using advanced 3D imaging, we plan the placement of your implants with precision, ensuring optimal results.
On the day of the procedure, we place the dental implants into the jawbone, followed by a temporary crown. This allows the implant to begin integrating with the bone immediately, and you can leave our clinic with a fully functional tooth. Over the next few months, the implants will fuse with the bone in a process known as osseointegration, and once fully healed, a permanent crown will be placed for a seamless finish.
Benefits of Same-Day Dental Implants in Dubai
Immediate Results: The biggest advantage of same-day dental implants is the immediate transformation of your smile. You won’t have to wait months to have a fully restored tooth.
Convenience: In just one visit, you can replace a missing tooth, saving you time and multiple trips to the dentist. This is particularly beneficial for individuals with busy schedules.
Improved Confidence: Missing teeth can significantly affect your self-esteem and quality of life. Same-day dental implants restore your smile, giving you confidence in your appearance.
No Need for Temporary Dentures: With traditional implants, patients often wear temporary dentures while waiting for their implants to heal. With same-day dental implants, you leave with a permanent solution, eliminating the need for temporary devices.
Additional Treatment Options: Invisalign Treatment in Dubai
While same-day dental implants in Dubai provide an excellent solution for missing teeth, orthodontic treatment may be necessary for those looking to straighten their teeth and improve overall dental aesthetics. If you're also interested in aligning your teeth, Invisalign treatment in Dubai is an ideal option.
Invisalign is a clear, discreet aligner system that gradually shifts your teeth into the correct position. Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible, offering both comfort and convenience. At Albayan Medical Center, we offer Invisalign treatments tailored to your specific needs, allowing you to achieve a straight smile without the need for visible metal brackets.

Unveiling the Marvels of Advanced Dentistry : A Gateway to Superior Oral Health Introduction: In recent years, the field of dentistry has undergone a remarkable transformation, propelled by cutting-edge technologies and innovative treatment approaches. Advanced dentistry is not merely about fixing dental issues; it's a holistic approach that aims to enhance overall oral health and improve the quality of life for individuals. In this blog, we will delve into the fascinating world of advanced dentistry, exploring the various technologies, treatments, and benefits that contribute to its growing prominence.
Technological Marvels: Advanced dentistry is synonymous with state-of-the-art technologies that have revolutionized traditional dental practices. Digital imaging, 3D printing, laser dentistry, and computer-aided design (CAD) are just a few examples of the advanced tools at the disposal of modern dentists. These technologies enable precise diagnostics, personalized treatment plans, and minimally invasive procedures, ensuring optimal outcomes for patients.
Precision Diagnostics: Diagnostic advancements have significantly improved the accuracy and efficiency of dental assessments. Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) provides detailed 3D images of the oral and maxillofacial regions, allowing dentists to diagnose issues with unparalleled precision. Early detection of dental problems translates to more effective and less invasive interventions, ultimately preserving natural teeth and preventing further complications.
Minimally Invasive Procedures: Gone are the days of invasive dental procedures causing anxiety among patients. Advanced dentistry places a strong emphasis on minimally invasive techniques, preserving as much natural tooth structure as possible. Laser dentistry, for instance, offers precise and painless treatments for various dental conditions, reducing the need for anesthesia and promoting faster recovery.
Cosmetic Dentistry Redefined: Advanced dentistry has transformed the field of cosmetic dentistry, offering patients a wide array of options to enhance the aesthetics of their smiles. From invisible aligners and veneers to teeth whitening using advanced laser technology, individuals can now achieve the smile they've always dreamed of with minimally invasive and aesthetically pleasing interventions.
Personalized Treatment Plans: No two individuals have the same oral health needs, and advanced dentistry recognizes this fact. Through the integration of digital technologies and data analytics, dentists can create personalized treatment plans tailored to the unique requirements of each patient. This approach not only enhances treatment outcomes but also ensures a more patient-centric and comfortable experience.
Teledentistry and Remote Monitoring: The digital age has brought about significant changes in the way dental care is delivered. Teledentistry allows for remote consultations, providing convenience and accessibility for patients. Additionally, advanced monitoring tools enable dentists to track the progress of treatments remotely, ensuring timely adjustments and interventions when necessary.
Conclusion: Advanced dentistry stands at the forefront of healthcare innovation, offering a blend of cutting-edge technologies, personalized treatments, and a commitment to minimally invasive approaches. As we continue to witness the evolution of dental care, embracing these advancements promises not only healthier smiles but also a positive impact on overall well-being. By staying informed about the marvels of advanced dentistry, individuals can make informed choices, taking proactive steps toward optimal oral health and a brighter, more confident future.

BNHA AU Ideas : Quirk Ranking (Parts 1 and 2)
Also on AO3!
TL;DR: Quirks ranked are ranked by risk level, these ranks are stored in chips placed right next to the brain stem. People on both ends of the spectrum are suffering, but its all for the sake of safety.
Right?
Part 1: Background
Ok so, the Quirk ranking AU
When you are born, you are given a chip. This chip can be read by scanners in places like shopping centres, government buildings, hospitals etc.
It will have a rank on it, as well as an ID number. ID numbers can only be read by government official scanners in government buildings, prisons, and the rank updaters
America, Japan, China and Dubai are the only countries to mandate chipping, most other countries have outright banned it and a violation of human rights. People from these other counties are given a traveller’s chip in a bracelet they need to keep on them at all times.
These chips open doors, literally. You can’t ride the train without one, can’t enter schools or hospitals or public areas. Removing your chip is seen as something only the worst villains do; like you’re trying to erase yourself from society.
Blanks and Metallics have the highest rate of villainy out of the other rankings, but metallics and blanks are very rare overall. Still, it doesn’t help their perception and these numbers are touted frequently by chipping supporters.
Quirk ranking isn’t objective! Quirk ranking is often influenced by the bias of the doctor, like All might’s quirk being ranked low because he was so nice and heroic, and Shinso’s being ranked too high because the doctor was scared of it.
About the ranks
Blanks (5% of Population)
Just called blanks or quirkless. Its what everyone’s chip reads unless/until their quirk comes in some “high risk” areas will deny entry to blank chips because of “risk”. Because everyone thinks of blanks as kids, not the quirkless, these laws are rarely disputed. Allowing entry of blanks into private businesses is a higher insurance cost so some areas can't afford to let the quirkless in, or use it as an excuse to turn them away.
It was originally the opposite, people with quirks were kept away from the quirkless because they were apparently an inherent risk. Propaganda from the times was along the lines of “You’d watch a tiger. Just because it hasn’t bitten anyone doesn’t mean it doesn’t want to” and “Chip them like the dogs they are.” This has been heavily covered up in recent years as an ugly part of Japan’s past.
Little kids celebrate getting their quirks in as they can now enter 90% of areas rather than 30%. Some places like arcades, gyms, dojos will ban blanks from entering full stop, no exceptions.
Colour Spectrum (90% total)
Blue/Purple (22% Population)
Non-threatening. Cant be used to harm people directly, includes a lot of animal mutant quirks and those without obvious offensive abilities.
Can be teased as kids but don’t tend to face any real discrimination (blues can be exceptions as some schools/jobs will find reasons not to hire them). If they become heroes they are typically children’s heroes.
The quirk doesn’t need to be weak to be ranked low, simply needs to have a low-risk factor, but many people view them as weak because they lack offensive capability. UA has been trying to change the entrance exam for years to allow these ranks to have a fighting chance but the heroic’s commission won't have it.
Green/Yellow/Orange (60% Population)
These quirks are very useful and the most well-liked, and least mistreated. Strong and simple to understand, medium risk. Easy to contain.
Most heroes are in this area of the rankings, but people with these quirks tend to do well whatever carrier they take.
Orange quirks are a little bit “scarier”. Either they are more difficult to contain or have uncomfortable aspects like mental quirks, blood control, etc. Still, they don’t tend to be treated badly.
Red (8%)
The start of the “Scary” quirks. These quirks are very strong, even from a young age and have inherently violent capabilities, but are still ranked low enough that they aren’t too feared, and there are no restrictions placed on their chips.
Kids with red quirks are the top dogs of the school. They get away with a lot too, with quirks strong enough to be hard to deal with but not so strong that 2 adults can’t control them.
Basically, the limit for this is “could 2 heroes take you out if you were a villain?” and if yes, it's red.
Reds sometimes have damaging backlash, often what keeps them out of bronze (i.e., navel laser)
Metallics (5% total)
Bronze (4%)
Now these quirks can do some damage, these are the start of the movement restrictions, but most in bronze view them as badges of pride. Bronze chips cant enter places like hospitals, daycares and nursing homes without taking quirk control classes. It's pretty common for bronze kids to take a week off in kindergarten to get them all out of the way so they can get their permissions updated.
There is a mix of fear and respect from bronze quirks, they are either seen as top dogs or villains in the making. Being a hero is a top job choice for people with this ranking.
All might’s quirk was ranked bronze when he entered the playing field, but many people theorise it should have been ranked gold. Still, All might helped the popular perception of metallics in the country, making them far more popular.
Silver (.8%)
These quirks aren’t popular. Heroics is seen as the only respectable career for them, even with quirk usage classes some hospitals won't let them enter. It’s rare they will be attacked due to their strength but people are often afraid of them, many bosses won't hire them because they “pose a risk”
Gold (.2%)
Same as silver really, very very rare.
Monochrome (So low it can’t be estimated, around 0.0000000001% of all quirks)
Black (???% - presumably more common than white)
There are no recorded black quirks in Japan so there are no current restrictions.
White (???% - presumably less common than black)
All for One is the first recorded white quirk in the world, and currently, the only person to hold such a rank.
Restrictions are extreme. No quirk scanners will let them enter, mostly just because the only person with a white quirk is a 200-year-old bogey man of a villain.
Most of the character's quirk's official rankings:
White: All for one, One for All (Izuku's time, with the addition of black whip + the other 6) Black: N/A Gold: (One for All at All Might's prime, but he never updated his quirk ranking) Silver: Half Hot Half Cold, Creation, Voice, Portal Bronze: Explosion, Dark Shadow (ranked for his poor control as a child), Mind Control (was only ranked this high because the doctor was prejudice), Overhaul, Fierce wings, One for All (All Might's Offical ranking) Red: Navel Lazer, Acid, Electricity, Twice, Mustard Gas, Blade Tooth, Compress Decay, Cremation, Muscular, Hell Fire Orange: Cement, Engine, Zero-G, Sugar Rush, Earphone Jack, Chronosatsis, Elasticity Yellow: Somnambulist, Blood Control, Harden, Transform, Magnesis, Blood Curdle Green: Frog, Clone, Dupli-Arms, Pop off, Mimicry, Air Jet Blue: Erasure, Tail, Tape, Foresight Purple: High Specs, AniVoice, Love Blank: (Izuku's original official ranking, Yagi's original official ranking)
Part 2: Plot
So Izuku has been ranked as blank his whole life, then he suddenly gets a quirk. All Might asks him when he's going to get his chip updated and Izuku looks at him with steel in his eyes.
“I’m not going to. I’m going to be the number one with a blank chip and show them how stupid their system is.”
Yagi is so proud of his boy and they have a cute little moment
On the day of the entrance exam, Izuku isn’t sure the doors will let him in, but they do thankfully.
When Izuku blasts the zero pointer into itty bitty pieces the teachers look at his file and share a “wtf” look with each other because this kid is meant to be quirkless.
After the quirk assessment, Aizawa asks Izuku about it and he sheepishly explains his quirk came in super late and that he wants to prove people with blank chips aren’t worthless.
Aizawa tries not to smile and tells him to hurry up and get better at controlling his messed-up quirk.
And Izuku does. He gets fully cowl before the sports festival because Aizawa throws a few tips around and it clicks a little earlier
Present Mic hears about Izuku sticking it to the ranking system and quickly decides this kid is amazing.
With his silver ranking, no other school would let him teach. He couldn’t visit Aizawa in the hospital after the USJ until he was moved from the ICU, and people always said he’d become a villain.
He knows silver restrictions are mild compared to blank but he empathises and is quietly cheering him on.
The only students in 1A that know he has a blank chip are Uraraka, Iida, Todoroki and Bakugo
Iida and Uraraka saw him get barred entry at a store and he had to sheepishly explain. He confessed to Todoroki at the sports festival. Bakugo has known him his whole life.
Well, that is until the licensing exams.
See, the doors lock on him. They won't let someone with a blank chip enter the exam. Izuku is crying a little because it's embarrassing and he doesn’t want the class to know.
In a show of solidarity that he’ll never admit to, Bakugo refuses to enter until Izuku is cleared to go in. When the rest of 1A find out about it, they refuse to enter as well. They stand shoulder to shoulder around Izuku daring the proctors to say anything rude to him.
After seeing this Inasa doesn’t go after Todoroki as hard in the exam, they manage to talk it out just prior to the last part, they still fail because they are both kind of out of it but they end the exam on good terms.
The heroics commission is on UA’s ass, pressing them into getting Izuku’s quirk graded because he's a “danger” and “a wildcard”
This pressure increased after black whip manifested during the camp attack, and after the villains kidnapped him and Bakugo
UA tries to shield Izuku from this as much as possible, only the first quirk assessment is mandatory and doesn’t need to be updated after the age of 6, it's optional after that. Izuku keeps seeing his mother throwing away important looking documents but he doesn’t ask why.
He overhears Ectoplasm telling Nezu and Aizawa it would just be easier to make him get his chip updated so the heroics commission stops threatening to pull their funding
Aizawa and Nezu are mad, and Izuku feels a little better but he still feels super guilty about the whole thing
The villains tried to play into the “you’ve both been mistreated because of your ranking” it doesn’t work at all.
By the time we get to the Overhaul arc, Izuku has manifested 4 of the previous holders’ quirks and the heroics commission is crying out for his chip to be updated, calling parallels to AFO but Nezu politely tells them to go fuck themselves.
Nighteye never once mentions Izuku’s blank chip and he's very grateful for that.
The 8 precepts are very interested in him, his multiple quirks and late manifestation may be able to help with the eradication of quirks.
The first time Izuku sees Eri, a chip reader in a store goes off because she doesn’t have one. He refuses to give her back to Overhaul, they take her back to Nighteye
Nighteye is furious until Izuku explains the girl doesn’t have a chip. That either means she has never been entered into the schooling/medical/government systems or its been illegally removed. He tells him he still shouldn’t have done that but it wasn’t a bad call.
That night, on his way back to UA, Izuku is taken by the 8 precepts.
They are furious and they know exactly how to ruin his life.
Using one of their contacts in the heroics commission, they get his chip updated to what the heroics commission thinks it should be.
Izuku wakes up, hurt and feeling violated and sore. He's covered in weird markings from Overhauls quirk but has no memory of it being used on him
Confused, upset and afraid he uses his quirk to run back to UA. Upon reaching the gate, it slams shut and alarms start blaring.
He breaks down sobbing.
1 minute later the staff of UA rush to the gate, expecting AFO to have broken out of prison for revenge. Instead, they see Izuku, covered in scares, battered with parts of his hero costume missing, sobbing on the ground.
Nezu checks his emails.
“Thank you for allowing us to update Midoriya Izuku’s ranking chip. His new ranking is: White. Have a nice day.
- The Heroics Commission of Japan”

Personal Training: Why I Became a Coach
I’ve been involved in the coaching and educational side of coaching for 15 years now. And as I’ve come to realize as a coach time and time again as in any industry one needs to ask yourself why you wake up in the mornings and why you do what you do. The Japanese take it a step further and don’t just ask why you wake up, but what is your reason for being each and every moment, your ‘Ikigai’. Simply waking up in the morning with a smile isn’t enough, doing what you do, to the best of your ability because you believe in your own cause goes so much deeper.
I’m able to combine my purpose and passion in my daily job , this is my story:
Early days of my fitness coaching
I really like helping people. That sense of giving and teaching and guiding is more rewarding than most things I’ve felt in life. I’ve come to know this from a very early age. I’m lucky in that sense. Most people take a lifetime to discover what they truly want to do in life…..me? I just help people. That along with the crazy home I grew up in and the people I’ve met and shaped me over the years is what I am today.
I grew up in a very active family where the different disciplines and approaches in a team sport AND an individual sport was very much part of our development as children. We received running shoes as birthday gifts and physical training was on the same level as academic success. To give you an idea- my dad is one of 18 people in the world that have successfully completed at least 1000 km in road races each and every year since 1989. He has done over 39000 km in official road races, 4000 short of navigating the globe. He is 65 years old and still going.
It’s this love of sport and movement where I always felt freedom and my best memories as a child were outdoors somewhere on a sports field or on a bicycle exploring and the little world I called my neighborhood.
Decision time
Just like so many people I had to decide what I was going to study at Uni and what I was going to do for a living. I must have come across the saying somewhere that ‘you need to study what you enjoy doing’ mixed with ‘ you need to study your passion’, combined with that funky saying of ‘ if you do your hobby as a job you never have to work a single day in your life’. So this is what I did. My love for design, interest in physics and performance along with my goal to make a difference in this world resulted in me ending up as a Biokinethesist / rehab coach specializing in sport performance.
Into the world of Personal Training
Initially I wanted to work with a sports team, and then quickly realized that less than 5% of the population are really homed in on elite performance training so I had to shift focus to the rest of the public. I knew the rest of the public needed me more than sport teams, that’s where I can make a real difference in this world. Success through community. I started teaching sport, fitness and health sciences at college. I must have qualified well over 1000 young trainers in coaching and PT, who could go out into the world and change other people’s lives themselves and hopefully share my message , views and philosophy along the way. I initially came over to Dubai as a lecturer but got offered a job at Iconic Fitness and quickly realized I was back on track to touching many people’s lives again.
Making a difference to fitness training
I am currently running the Body Transformation and Rehab groups at Iconic Fitness.
I joined Iconic Fitness as their very 1st employee 7 years ago as I believed in their project. The project was to establish a brand new fitness community in Dubai Marina for people who are similar to us – People who care about their health and training, believe in a structured process to be better every week and ultimately being the best they can be through proper nutrition, training and incorporating changes into their daily life.
Being able to meet, assist, educate and help so many different people in Dubai from all over the world with different views, backgrounds and beliefs, influencing them to change their perspective about training and health and shifting their focus towards a healthier and better version of themselves through gradual progression and corrective movements and seeing their lives change is all what coaching is about.
My job is helping people, having fun while doing so while I build relationships and change people’s lives just like movement and enjoying to move has shaped my life…….it just doesn’t get any better than that.
We have countless stories of people who struggled to walk after a car accident who can now lift, run and do just about anything they want. Ladies who struggled to fall pregnant due to complications who are now building families. People who were afraid of stepping outside their comfort zone and introducing themselves are now running marathons and are major game players in their companies. Exercise and community can change everything, and exercise in a community can fix anything.
I’ll stand by this – if you are down and sad, you need to train. If you are unhappy and unsure you simply need to train. If you are confused and overwhelmed you need to train. If you want change in your life you need to train. If you want to start over you need to train. Training , especially with the right people can change your life.
Now that I’m a parent of 2, I’ve realized that coaching doesn’t stop at 5pm, there is simply a shift in focus on what coaching needs to happen at work and at home. I’m a coach from 8am to 5pm, and then I’m a dad coach from 5pm to 8am, and this is who I am. I am a coach.

Disasterous Diet
Part two of the Cath fic for Zelthur weekend. Also dedicated to @thestarrynightgazer and @maybeishouldwait - thank you to Tyler the cat for inspiration for this instalment.
Part one can be found here.
***
“We can’t do this to him! Look at that face…”
Arthur felt the protest die on his lips as Gelda regarded him, her violet eyes hard and cold. “I have been saying ever since that cat came into this house that he has a problem with food. Well, now we know that he does.
“The vet was quite clear,” Gelda continued sternly as she poured a small quantity of biscuits into a cup marked with measurements along the sides. “He has to lose two kilos.” The biscuits clattered like falling hailstones into Cath’s food bowl, barely covering the bottom of the dish and Arthur smelled the unappealing odour of dry, dusty meat. “He is allowed this much, three times a day,” she added as she placed the bowl deliberately on the floor. “Do not give him any more.”
As if on cue, Cath toddled over to the dish, looking over his shoulder at Gelda with a mournful expression and Arthur could swear he saw the animal scrunch up his nose in disgust. Nonetheless, thirty seconds later all of the biscuits were gone, the cat mewling pitifully up at Arthur, his wails more than enough to tug on the heartstrings.
“But he’s hungry,” Arthur moaned as he crouched down to stroke Cath’s fur, the feline pressing his head sorrowfully into his hand. “That was barely anything! Surely we can give him a bit more than that…”
“No we can’t,” Gelda snapped as she started unpacking more bags of the offending diet biscuits, placing them neatly in one of the kitchen cabinets. “The vet was very specific. At present he is at significant risk of diabetes and liver disease. Do you want him to get sick?”
Arthur rested his hand on the cat’s soft fur, ruffling the patch behind his ears. “No, of course not,” he said quietly, “but I don’t want him to be miserable! This just seems like nowhere near enough food.”
“I asked the vet the same thing,” Gelda replied with a sigh. “But she promised it would be sufficient for his needs. And if we help him exercise he can come off the diet more quickly.” At this Gelda removed a plastic ball from the bag. “I bought him this,” she added, a hopeful edge to her tone as she held the object out for Arthur’s inspection.
Arthur examined the ball, trying to work out what it was for. Whatever it was, he sincerely doubted it would be enough to get Cath moving. In a fit of extravagance, Zeldris had bought their pet an enormous multi-tiered scratching post on Amazon, lovingly putting the complicated contraption together late one Tuesday evening after staggering in from work. Cath had taken one disdainful look at it, then sprung up onto the sofa, falling asleep on Arthur’s chest. The look Zeldris had given the animal was enough to freeze rivers, but the post had sat untouched ever since.
As if reading his mind, Gelda flashed him a mischievous smile, opening a hatch in the ball and placing a few diet biscuits inside. “This will get him moving,” she promised as she placed the ball on the floor. Cath stepped up to it cautiously, sniffing with some trepidation before pushing the ball all over the kitchen floor with something approaching enthusiasm. Arthur stared in surprise: it was the most he had seen the feline move since the day the cat had demolished his birthday cake.
“That should help,” Gelda said and Arthur was sure he could detect relief in her tone. “The vet was quite sharp with me,” she explained as he took a step towards her, pulling her into a close embrace. “I had to tell her we got him like that from the rescue centre to avoid the lecture.”
They stayed locked together for several minutes, Arthur feeling her breathing grow steady as he held her. “He’ll lose the weight, I promise,” he said with finality. “I won’t cheat. Next time he goes to the vet she’ll be really pleased.” Gelda flashed him a smile before finally pulling back, stowing the empty shopping bag in a drawer before checking her watch.
“I’ve got to go pack. Work want me to present at a conference in Dubai and I’ve got to leave soon,” Gelda said, unable to keep the hint of pride from her voice. “It’s only for a week,” she said bracingly as she caught Arthur’s slightly crestfallen expression.
“What’s this?” a voice called from the kitchen door and both the others looked round to see Zeldris, looking completely worn out. His hair and suit were as immaculate as usual, but the dark bags under his eyes betrayed his exhaustion. He always looked like this on Friday evenings. “You’re going away?”
“I found out this evening. Work just emailed the tickets to me,” Gelda explained. “Charles has a stomach bug and can’t go.”
“He’s always letting you down,” Zeldris said crossly as he folded his arms across his chest.
Gelda sighed, pressing a hand to her temple and Arthur was unsurprised to see Zeldris move towards her to rest a hand on her arm. “It’s not his fault,” Gelda murmured, “His kid has just started nursery and is bringing back every disease under the sun. And I’m happy to go. This will be good for my career.”
“When’s your flight?” Zeldris asked, and Arthur saw him stifle a yawn.
“I’m taking her, Zel. You get some sleep,” Arthur declared as he grabbed the car keys off the hook on the wall. “I’m not working til Sunday, okay?” he said, cutting off the other’s obvious protest. “Now go pack,” he added as he gave Gelda a kiss on the forehead. She looked at him gratefully before leaving the kitchen, the sound of her feet padding up the steps reaching them a few moments later.
Zeldris rubbed his eyes, his shoulders collapsing and Arthur stepped to the fridge, grabbing a Tupperware container and shoving the pasta he had cooked earlier into the microwave, the smell of tomato sauce percolating through the room. Zeldris looked at him gratefully before wolfing down the meal, barely pausing for breath as he ate.
“You didn’t get lunch again,” Arthur said reproachfully. “Honestly you have to start looking after yourself. It’s not like you’re on a diet.”
“What do you mean?” Zeldris asked, his voice muffled with food. Arthur looked around, noting with some misgiving that Cath had given up on his ball, which lay abandoned next to the skirting board, the cat himself now curled up fast asleep in his basket. Zeldris followed his gaze and gave a snort of derision.
“Gelda took him to the vet today,” Arthur explained as Zeldris chuckled. “Cath has to lose two kilos. I don’t know what to do, Zel. I mean… he can’t go thirty minutes without eating. What are we going to do.”
Zeldris stared up at him, a gleeful look in his eyes. “I’m sure we’ll manage,” he said with a smile.
***
His boyfriend was not so sanguine the following day. After they had been woken up at five in the morning, then interrupted twice by Cath’s incessant scratching on the door, Zeldris had lost it completely and banished the cat to the garden, securing the cat flap with an echoing bang. The words ‘I never want to see that thing again’ had been used several times and Arthur did not dare let Cath back into the house. The poor feline stared at him forlornly from his spot under a tree, looking every bit as miserable as Arthur felt.
“He’s just hungry,” Arthur pleaded. “It’s not his fault…”
“Then whose is it exactly?” Zeldris snapped back, his hands on his hips as he too glowered at the animal. “Ours for refusing to feed him, in direct contravention of medical advice? No, I thought not,” he huffed as Arthur stuttered incoherently. “If he’s so hungry he can damn well learn how to hunt.”
Before Arthur could respond, Zeldris strode from the room, no doubt intending to take out his anger on the dust that had settled on the bookcases and shelves. With some annoyance, Arthur looked out at the garden, deciding that he would let Cath back inside no matter the consequences. His hand was opening the French windows before it fully sunk in: Cath was nowhere to be seen.
In something of a panic, Arthur ran out of the house, feeling the rough stone tiles under his bare feet. “Cath? Cath! Where are you?” he called, his eyes darting frantically under bushes and shrubs for a telltale sign of ginger. “I’m sorry!” he added as he stepped onto the lawn. The cat couldn’t possibly have scaled the high fence, could he?
The tremendous and utterly unexpected noise bursting like a machine gun behind him made him jump out of his skin: a horrifying mixture of wailing and squealing and hissing that practically made his blood run cold. Heart beating uncomfortably fast in his chest Arthur turned round, his eyes squeezed shut, forcing himself to open them as he looked at the house.
He was just in time to see Cath practically flying through the open doors, something small and fast skittering in ahead of him. Arthur groaned, cold dread dropping to the pit of his stomach. Forcing his unresponsive legs to move, he made his way back into the kitchen, stealing himself for whatever might lie within.
As it turned out his preparations were nowhere near enough. In the few minutes that had passed between Cath returning to the house and his own entrance the kitchen had been transformed into absolute chaos. The expensive, glass fruit bowl that Gelda has brought back from Venice was lying in shining shards all over the floor along with a multitude of upturned apples and grapefruits. The utensils which were usually carefully placed on the countertop were all upended, covering the granite surface in a jumbled mess. Arthur took several deep breaths, trying to calm the hammering in his chest, an exercise which was ruined by the appearance of a vicious squirrel, hissing and squeaking from the top of a wall cabinet as Cath mewled at it angrily from below.
“What the hell!” Zeldris shouted as he ran into the kitchen, his face drained of blood as he regarded the room. “Arthur! If that cat has done this…”
Pointing towards the intruder, Arthur interjected, “I think Cath took your advice about hunting.” He was amused to see Zeldris splutter, his eyes growing wide as he looked at the squirrel in utter astonishment.
“Get that thing out of here!” he yelled as Arthur gave way to the chuckle bubbling up in his throat. “Just look at the state of this place! I can’t… I… what…”
Laughing to himself, Arthur lifted a chair and placed it directly below the furious squirrel. Then, donning oven gloves, he took his position, reaching up to grab the offending rodent. He was surprised to find his effort was successful, and that he was able to grab the grey furball without much difficulty.
“Aw, it’s only a baby,” he exclaimed as he climbed down from the chair, Zeldris visibly flinching as he walked towards him.
“Just… just get it out of here,” his boyfriend gasped as he shrank backwards towards the wall. Arthur guffawed as he let the squirrel go in the garden, the annoyed animal shooting off into the trees at the first opportunity. When Arthur returned, he found Zeldris muttering angrily to himself as he picked up the larger splinters of glass from the floor.
Arthur grinned as he made a start on the countertops, placing the utensils into the dishwasher and wiping down the surfaces. Having finished his task, Arthur moved to the floor, picking up the fruit as Zeldris hoovered. It was only when the they had finished clattering and bustling about that Arthur noticed the rustling sound coming from within one of the cupboards. Experimentally, he opened a few doors, his face breaking into a grin as he found the source of the noise.
Cath was face-first in a pile of biscuits; the container had obviously been upturned in the ruckus allowing the cat to eat his fill. The crunching sound, along with the appreciative miaows, suggested that Cath was thoroughly enjoying himself. A few moments later, Zeldris joined him and together they watched as Cath gorged on the food.
“Let’s… leave him like that. He can start his diet tomorrow,” Zeldris murmured quietly as he leant against Arthur, who wrapped an arm quickly round him in response.
“Okay. And after we finish up in here, let’s take a shower,” Arthur suggested, not needing to look into the other’s face to sense his agreement. “I don’t know about you, this work has made me break out in a sweat…”
A pause, followed by a hand moving around his waist. “Ten minutes,” came the reply and Arthur smiled.

Laditude - GOTR takeover Latitude 15th July 2017
The road to Latitude was a long road, the 8 hour drive made me feel like I should have been in the states travelling to a local gig! Whereas in the UK…… a LONG DRIVE!
Arriving Thursday for the weekend, we set up basecamp amongst Waitrose shoppers! (Personally I am more Lidls) (more Waitrose later) A great pitch location within short walking distance for the Sausage Pork Shack (that’s breakfast sorted) and loo’s…. close but not too close! Despite packing lite the load was indeed heavy!
Off to the main festival site for the afternoon evening. Latitude had a character all of its own. Delightful wooded areas, the river, the waterfront stage, comedy arena, lake stage, theatre and other music zones. The main stage Obelisk Arena was set at the bottom of a natural hill so made a great arena, unlike other festivals at the back was a GA set of tiered seats. Great idea.
Lots of quirky stalls to spend one’s hard earned cash. Merchandise purchased. Finally I get my hands on a Garratt Tee shirt. Can you ever have too many t-shirts? We found a tasty food stall making great Tibetan cuisine, a real treat.
The lockers. When booking we selected the option of a secure locker, in the mind you see a gym locker, the reality was quite different. All very organised and secure, but only the size of first edition Harry Potter! The struggle was real to get all the newly purchased merch inside! At the cost of the camera, latitude pint glass and knitted cactus…… cannot have everything in life.
Being a tad tired we head back to camp and attempt to sleep……….. The hours between midnight and 7 am can be long can’t they!!!!! At least I rested!!!! Such a relief the Scousers next door had a great time……festival life.
Friday, exploring day. Pink Sheep, Lakes, river banks, gondola rides, comedy, ballet, music. We saw and heard it all. Went to see Charlie Fink in the theatre a very touching play. Another highlight being the BalletBoyz.
Demonstrating the high end nature of this festival, we browse a “living jewellery gemstone stall” tempted by the lapis necklace should or shouldn’t I spend money…. the lady next to me spots an amethyst lazer cut silver ring, the stall holder points out that it is indeed to most expensive item on the stand, her friend, what £200…. errrr no £2000. Lady next to me, places it on the hand stares at it for around 30 seconds and says, I’ll take it. The stall holder close to tears of joy can’t quite #believe. She pays on her credit card saying I’ll tell the husband later he just bought me a pressie. When in Rome the Lapis is indeed purchased! Bargain.
The 1975 were headlining so we decided to sit on the back row, what a great view and great set. This was the last date of the current tour, hardcore fans had been barriering it all day. An emotional good bye until October 2018! We’ve all been there. It was a chilly evening many layers were on, I was as usual rocking the homeless look. Back to basecamp to “warm up”. #fail.
A much better nights sleep, the ear plugs working their magic. Must have got at least a 6 hour snooze. The weather looked ok for the day, warm, but not hot, sunny but not on fire, but maybe light showers in the afternoon.
Pack a sweater and poncho, don the wellies.
Mixing up the day with a cheese and baked bean toastie for breakfast. Every night the festival ground itself is vacated and you camped off site. Festival Gates open around 10am, so we head back down and wander to the Obelisk Arena. The arena is taped off until the site is declared ready. It is has been transformed overnight into a GOTR stopover/takeover. With Willis flags flying proudly around the arena and new stage surround added. We meet a Nanny that is paid to sit on site over the weekend to make sure her crew are behaving! This was her 10th year! Tempted by the offer of a £70k a year job in Dubai we refused!
B, G, S, and F arrive! Yay! The gang are here. A very causal dropping on the tape and the cruise to the barrier is easy. Wot no bag search, hole punching of tickets, queueing for wrist bands, and steps, front row and never had been such a breeze!
The stage is very high, I guess because of the hill, also down the front there is an uneven layer of sand/gravel which makes for a messy seat! Hiding cables I guess but ruining the arse of the trouser!
The very best sound check for a good 30 mins prior to their opening set. Seye is working with Gorillaz on the Humanz tour. I think his absence was definitely noted. Wot no WE OK in Sight! They had a tough crowd, first up, early in the afternoon and to a bit of a lame crowd. Maybe the Waitrose crowd don’t wake up until after the sun passes the yard arm. Good set none the less.
Ben appears on stage to announce Lucy Rose, this was indeed the largest audience she had ever played in front of. I can’t remember much of her set as I was “struggling”, all I can say is thank god for Tang Tastics. Never have I needed you more! Lucy I am sure did a great acoustic set. #tired.com
It suddenly gets really crushed and tightly packed down the front, all exit plans are now waived from the mind. Milky chance, nope I hadn’t heard of them, but clearly Waitrose Kid shoppers had. It was rammed down there with mosh pit circle dances gaps and barrier ramming being undertaken. Oh it was fun! They were very good. Just what the soul need post L.R.
Glass Animals next, again, crush fest, the stage dressing was a large golden pineapple, this brought a smile to my face…… party like a 🍍 #fondmemories they were really good, a great tonic. Bashing out tune after tune. Clearly they were having a great time as well. The fan base of course bringing inflatable pineapples and pineapple sunglasses, said pair live on in DDD thanks to the careless actions of a fan! But the careful squirrelling of said DDD fan!
More peeps than ever now down the front for Two Door Cinema club. Great stage graphics, great tunes, saw them at Glastonbury last month and they never disappoint. Surviving all three of the last acts was a bit of a feat of endurance, but we did it.
The teenage Waitrose shoppers had now dispersed by around 20% so we now had room to dance around again. Leon Bridges was totally awesome and oh so talented, he had all the moves, very 50s rockabilly but with a modern twist. Great soul in his voice. It’s not every one who can carry off the cricket whites look! He did a blinding set.
By now it was 2045 hours and only 45 mins until Mumford!
Throughout the day the stopover was old Skool and used linen fabric backdrops to showcase the artist. Mumford indeed went old skool and had the same stylish graphic set up. I don’t think we will see the May pyro stage set again.
2130 and OMG the boys were right on the button. They blew me away from the start. Opening with Snake Eyes, I’m not sure where the bounce came from, (hula hoops) (Capri sun) (Tang tastics) (sesame bars), but it was there from the first chord. Loved this show.
The tunes flowed, the chaps clearly having a blast and enjoying it as well. Very much a festival set, mixing it up. Hearing the songs from Johannesburg again, Baaba Maal throwing his shapes and the beauty that is Si tu Veux, Marcus taking lead on Wona, it was a real carnival set. I will never tire of hearing those songs. Love love love.
Up and coming artist Maggie Rogers and fellow takeover artist joined them for Awake My soul. Sounding beautiful.
Too soon it was Ditmas, will he or won’t he risk the Waitrose run…. of course he did! We did worry about the quantity of inflatable sofas, picnic blankets, camping chairs in the arena! NO one got hurt! He made it back to the stage!
Encore to Blind Leading the blind. Then the gathering of friends and fellow performers for “With a little help from my friends”. Another classic, spotting JQ, Leon Bridges, Maggie Rogers, The Very Best, Gill Landry. Marcus shaking the life out of a tambourine never fails to make one smile. What a great takeover. Latitude loves the Sons.
As per Marcus’s instructions we took the aftershow party to Jack Garratt. That boy was at the top of his game. It’s not many that can pull of a matching shirt and shorts combo, but he wore it with pride. We sang, we laughed, we dance the sole out of our wellies. What an atmosphere. Epic. Blinding. Outstanding! Can’t wait for his formal return with album two. I think it’s fair to say Jack loved it as well, doing his mini “celebratory Ditmas” run around the front pit hi fiving everyone.
Still buzzing from Mumford and Jack, we head onwards to the GOTR bar and the Sunset Arena for a spot of chilling and lounging with HBOV. It’s a lovely area to chill on a log and to reflect on a great weekend, well done chaps, you pulled off another blinder. High five. 🍹😎🌲🌳
Now nearly 3am we decide to call it quits for the day and head back to the comfort of the tent……. nope we didn’t find it.
Sunday… sorry to have missed you Fleet Foxes 🦊 but homelands beckons. Thanks to the person who donated the freecycle tent ⛺️ other people’s waste! 🤓
