How to Ensure Safety of Teenage Drivers on Road Trips and Celebrations
Letting your teenage son or daughter learn how to drive a car is a great way to help them attain independence and be responsible in their life. If you have done this or are doing this, you are undoubtedly putting them on the right track. But the risks don’t disappear even after they get a licence to legally drive their car on the road. Especially when there is more free time and during road trips and celebrations, top instructors from a Clyde North driving school say that you should take certain proactive steps to ensure the safety of your teenage son or daughter behind the wheel. But how?
Below are some measures that you must implement in your teen’s driving life in order to keep them safe:
Tumblr media
Reinforcing Safe Driving Practises
You should remind your teen about all traffic rules and regulations. You should tell them to follow all of them properly whenever they are behind the wheel on the road. You should also help them practise defensive driving techniques or
enrol them in a good and reputable driving school to do so.
Setting Clear Expectations and Boundaries
Set certain clear rules and regulations for your teen, especially on celebrations, road trips, or when they have more free time. Bind them by passenger limitations, curfews, and places they can visit. Make sure you also set consequences for breaking these rules in order to keep them safe behind the wheel.
Limiting Nighttime Driving
Driving a car down the road at night is usually risky. There have been incidents of various fatal accidents during nighttime driving. So, what you should do as a parent is impose restrictions at night until your teen gains more confidence and experience behind the wheel. Set a time when they need to reach home and set consequences if they don’t adhere to this. At the same time, consider enrolling them in a good and reputable Clyde driving school in order to help them be the best version of themselves.
As a parent, nothing is literally bigger than your teen’s safety, especially when they are behind the wheel on the road. With more free time, road trips, and celebrations come a lot of risks that you need to understand and, accordingly, implement the above-mentioned measures in their lives. You can also contribute to your teen’s safety by pushing them to take driving lessons at the best driving school. Now that you know what to do, get started!

Thank yous
Ay, first and foremost I gotta thank God you feel me, for every single blessing and lesson and opportunity that has lead to this release. 2018 was the most beautiful year and I'm beyond grateful and that's an understatement. You are an amazing God and I don't have enough mouths to thank you enough. But thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you, anyway!
So, before I get into this, I think it should be known that although I'm from NY, this EP belongs to Chicago. Cj's from Northside, he did the beats. Gary is from Southside, he shot the Trombone cover. Josh is from North Shore, he's the voice of Clyde that you hear on the skit. LaurenSpinz is from Southside, I'm wearing her bracelets on the cover. Since Hardball, the Chi has always held a special place in my heart, so it feels good to be able to come full circle with No Trap, No Fear.
To Cj TheFlii: My fuckin' guy, the energy that you possess in a single studio session is unmatched. You're a pure individual with exceptional talent. Don't ever lose that geniuine love in ya heart, and keep grinding. You're literally one few producers I know really really working. I'm already proud, but I'm excited to see what God has in store for you.
To Dynasty: Bro, what a ride. First of all you are the one of the realest niggas in LA. Your focus and drive is inspiring and the fact that you really care. No, REALLY care, beyond this music shit, is your biggest attribute. Don't ever change a thing. Don't ever stop showing these artists what a real manager looks like. Thank you for everything, let's keep goin'!
To Joel: Boyyyy you know how to work a camera, let me tell you! We've become so close over the past couple years, I'm truly blessed to know you and call you family. We shot this album cover in 28 minutes, in real cold weather with props and everything and all I did was show you the American Gangster cover and say "I wanna look like Hov" lmao. Your vision is impeccable. I love you, bro.
To my beloved Daishaundra: My sunshine, this is your album too, shorty. There would be no Chauncey Bass without the love of my life to sing to. You are so necessary, you are so brilliant, you are so awesome. Thank you for being my executive producer, in the literal sense. Thank you for teaching me how to love unconditionally. Thank you for sharing your light with me; the brightest light, my God. Thank you for deeming me worthy and thank you for co-writing the best love story I've ever told and helping me make the best cluster of songs I've ever created and I cannot wait to sing beautiful duets with you to our little SuperNova. We made a Baby Blue!!! I love you. I love you, I love you. Word is bond, you my nigga.
Real quick tho... Ma, I love you. Dad, I love you. EZRA I LOVE YOU, you amazing little man I miss you so much I can't wait to show you everything mamaDai and I have planned for you. Rej, my borough brother, I love you! Yel, Topp, Nobi I can't even express, yo. I thank God everyday to be surrounded around such TRULY incredible people and call y'all my siblings. Not to mention y'all make FIIIRE music omg. Gary, I said your name earlier but you're an amazing man don't ever let nobody tell you you're not! All my Brotherhood dudes!! Thank God for y'all; Jonathan Tillman, I love you dog! Derrick Jasmin I love you, dog! Damn, this shit long as hell my bad for the novel. All my SHPLFTD people!!!!! Omg your support is so amazing, thank you all; everyone mentioned in this shit, thank you all for existing. You mean the world to me.
LOVE ONE ANOTHER! STOP HOLDING IN POSITIVE ENERGY! LET GO OF NEGATIVE, TOXIC ENERGY THE WORLD NEEDS LOVE, THE WORLD NEEDS PRAYER AND PRAYER WORKS. AIGHT?! WORD UP

A Road Trip to the Cowal Highland Gathering in Dunoon
At the end of August, I found myself back in Scotland for my third visit to this beautiful country and lucky for me, this trip coincided with two things I had been wanting to experience for a while: one was seeing the glens covered in purple heather and the other was attending the Highland Games!
I attended my first ever Highlands Games a few summers back in Fredericton, Canada, and that was a lot of fun. They had a ceilidh, Gaelic lessons, Highlands dancing, as well as a slew of athletic events including the famed caber toss where a massive pole (tree trunk!) is tossed end over end. I had been wanting to attend the ‘real thing’ ever since, and this summer was my chance!
After spending a few days in Glasgow, it was finally time for the big event, so Sam and I hopped in our rental car and set out towards our destination. Next stop: the Cowal Highland Gathering in Dunoon!
The town of Dunoon is located on the west shore of the upper Firth of Clyde in Argyll and Bute, and we were treated to some pretty amazing landscapes on the drive over. Technically, we could have just taken a ferry across and cut our travel time, but we wanted lochs, we wanted forests, and we wanted winding roads to soak in the beauty of nature, so we were more than glad to tack on a few extra kilometres.
Our route took us west out of Glasgow and then north along the shores of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. Loch Lomond is the largest loch in Scotland and probably the most famous after Loch Ness, so we pulled over to stretch our legs and take some photos – unfortunately, there was no sighting of Nessie’s cousin!
From there we continued through Arrochar, over the Rest and Be Thankful lookout point, along Loch Fyne, through Strachur, and down the shores of Loch Eck before arriving in Dunoon…in the middle of a torrential downpour!
As there was little chance of sightseeing considering the weather, we grabbed a quick bite of dinner in town, and then continued on to the nearby town of Innellan where we would be spending the night.
Staying at a cozy AirBnB in a mansion
Now I feel like I say this a lot, but we ended up at one of the coolest little AirBnBs ever!
We had a room in a merchant’s mansion from the 1850s, our bedroom had views overlooking the water, and there was a beautiful Golden Retriever willing to accept all the pets and belly rubs in the world. We also had an amazing host who was a classical musician, so we actually ended up spending part of the evening together chatting in his dining room and having tea and biscuits (as you do!), which was really cool.
Lately, Sam and I have been staying in AirBnBs where we have the whole space to ourselves, so it was nice having a host for a change and to hear about life in this little corner of Scotland.
Also, that night I had one of the best sleeps of my life. I think it was the combination of that cool late-summer air, the fluffiest duvet and pillows, and the tranquillity of the town, all combined to offer an amazing night’s rest.
Going to the Cowal Highland Gathering
The following morning we got up bright and early and drove from Innellan to Dunoon. It was a short 15-minute drive and we arrived just as they were setting up for the Cowal Games.
This is the largest of all the Highland Games in the world attracting over 3,000 competitors and 20,000 spectators from around the world, so it was pretty cool to be in attendance!
Having only had a quick cup of tea before we ran out the door, we wandered over to the food truck area inside the grounds. Here we saw some Scottish classics listed on the menu, so we had to dig in.
It may have been way too early for lunch, but I ordered myself a plate of beef stovies (a potato mash with onions, vegetables, and different meats) and Sam got himself some haggis with neeps and tatties (sheep’s pluck with turnips and potatoes on the side). It was my first time trying beef stovies and I really enjoyed it – hearty, filling and perfect to kick start a busy day.
And then, it was time for some games!
So what can you expect from the games?
The games were broken down into 4 main categories, and even though we were only there for a day, we still managed to see a bit of everything.
Highland Dancing – The Cowal Highland Gathering hosted the Scottish and World Championships, so there were lots of international dancers – some even from Canada! We watched part of the competition but the dance that really caught my eye was the Scottish Sword Dance. This is a victory dance meaning that if the Scots won in battle, they would dance over their enemies weapons to celebrate a return home to their wives and families.
Piping – This category was split into pipe bands and solo piping. The solo piping had taken place the previous day, but we got to watch the bands compete in the Cowal Pipe Band Championship. Apparently, at the very end of the event, all of the pipe bands get together and salute the Chieftain to the tune of ‘Highland Laddie’. We missed this but I can only imagine what 1,000+ pipers playing in unison sounds like!
Wrestling – This event is focused on Scottish backhold wrestling which has been practiced since the 8th century and was also part of the earliest Highland Games! This form of wrestling involves wrestlers gripping each other around the waist, the right hand under the opponent’s left arm and the chin resting on the opposite right shoulder. If the wrestler breaks his hold or touches the ground with any part of his body except his feet, he loses.
Heavy Athletics – Now this is what I was most looking forward to! The heavy athletics are an amazing display of human strength and a celebration of a tradition that has been passed down over the centuries. It usually features the following events:
Caber toss: Where competitors toss a caber so that it turns end over end.
Stone put: Similar to throwing a shot put, except instead of a steel shot, they use a large stone.
Scottish hammer throw: A round metal ball attached to a hammer is whirled and then thrown over the shoulder.
Weight throw: A combination of two events where light and heavy weights with a chain attached to a handle are thrown.
Weight over the bar: The athlete has to throw a weight with a handle over their head and over a bar.
Sheaf toss: Where a bundle of straw (the sheaf) wrapped in a burlap bag is tossed vertically with a pitchfork over a raised bar.
Phewww! I’m just exhausted thinking of the strength required to compete in these events. I’ll just let the next few photos do the talking.
And aside from all of these competitions, there’s actually quite a bit more to do at the games! There was also a Ceilidh tent showcasing some homegrown talent, food trucks where you could tuck into local cuisine, numerous games and workshops for children, as well as other events taking place across town like the street parade and fireworks display, a classic cars showcase, and numerous races.
All in all, plenty to keep busy!
A scenic drive back to Glasgow
We had to leave Dunoon in the late afternoon to go back to Glasgow and catch our flight, so we didn’t get to watch the closing ceremony for the Cowal Highland Gathering, but we did have a beautiful drive back.
Since we had improved weather this time, we actually managed to make a few stops, first at Benmore after we spotted a field full of sheep (yes, we are those tourists!), and then at the Rest And Be Thankful lookout point because with a name like that, you can’t help but obey!
A few tips for the Cowal Games
Now a few tips to keep in mind in case you find yourself attending the Highland Games next year:
The Cowal Highland Gathering is held annually in the town of Dunoon on the Cowal Peninsula in Argyll and Bute on the last weekend in August.
You’re going to be spending the whole day outdoors, so it’s a good idea to dress for unpredictable Scottish weather. Keep in mind that the grounds get very muddy by the end of the day. I wore rain boots, a rain jacket, a scarf and toque (it was surprisingly chilly for August!), and I also kept my umbrella handy and had to pull it out a few times.
Locals bring their own tents and lawn chairs (a clever move!) so something to consider if you’re planning on sticking around all day.
The Cowal Games are a popular event so it’s a good idea to book your accommodations well in advance. If you want to snag a good parking spot near the grounds, it’s also a good idea to arrive early before the games begin!
Tickets for the Cowal Games can be purchased at the ticketing booth just outside the grounds, or you can just get them online to avoid the long lines.
Have you ever attended the Highland Games?
Where and what was it like?

Windmills
Tumblr media
Truck being loaded with corn in Oklahoma
“You’re listening to KFMO, Farm Radio. All ag, all day. In just moment we’ll have Scott Kay with the soy report but first a word from our friends at Pioneer Seed.….”  Western Oklahoma. This agriculture country. Big agriculture.  Grain and cattle. Everything revolves around these two. Grain haulers and cattle trucks and and occasionally a truck hauling a massive part for the electric generating windmills that line the ridges in this wide open country are what is on the 2 lane roads that crisscross the region. But we are looking for history. Heading south along the Texas Oklahoma border we are looking for the history of the windmill.
Rolling into Shattuck, OK the speed drops from 70 to 55 to 45 to 35 to 25.
“I don’t see it.” Lorraine says.
“I think it’s on the far side of town.” I reply
The sign says 35 mph. In the distance 45 mph. Four blocks and we’re on the other side of town.
“There it is!” I say as we roll on by.
U-turn in the Quick-e-Mart and we come to a stop in front of the Shattuck Windmill Park and Museum. Four acres of windmills from the past.
Tumblr media
The Shattuck windmill park
I jump out to take a photo and a woman comes out of the building signed George Schultz General Store. I shout “Hello” and wave. She says something I can’t quite hear. As I get closer she’s saying, “I’d like you to sign the guest register.”
“We’ll certainly ma’am. I’d be happy to.”
Tumblr media
The store
“It’s right in here.” she says opening the door to the little gift shop.
“Now if you want to look around that’s fine. Or I can show you around. You just follow me right out the back here.”
We step out into a field of windmills. Big ones, little ones, some are spinning and some are stopped.
“Now I don’t know much about windmills but my husband Don does. He’s away today but he and some other men fix and paint them and they know all about them. But I can tell you we’ve had quite a controversy about the grass. Some people want it mowed and some say we should let the wild flowers grow. The flowers are pretty but watch your step. I don’t like walking out here.”
“Why?” asks Lorraine
“Snakes. I’ve been deathly afraid of snakes since I was a little girl.”
“Lorraine is too.” I offer.
“Well you and I are going to stick together” she says turning to Lorraine, “and if we see one we’ll find out who runs faster. I’m 85 so you’re probably going to beat me.”
Tumblr media
Watch out for snakes
“Now I don’t know too much about windmills but I’ll show you this sod house. My husband and some other men moved this here so we could show people what it was like when people first came here. It’s not really sod. It’s made of stone and dug into the ground. This was built in 1902 the Schwartz family. They had 9 children and lived here until they could build a stick house in 1920.”
The phone rings in her pocket. “Yes, yes I can but I can’t talk now. ……. Don’t you worry. ….. I’ll take care of it.”
“Oh my. I’m the church organist. I’ve been doing it for 52 years. Now one of the Sunday school teachers can’t make it and I’ll have to cover for her. I’ll have to go a little early to do both. I guess I’ll be brushing up on Sunday school lessons tonight.”
“I was born here in Shattuck. One of twins. My mother gave birth to my brother Clyde and said ‘Thank God that’s over with.’ and the doctor said ‘Not yet. You got another one coming.’ and that was me. Of course they didn’t know if it was twins in those days.”
“Both my husband and I went to college. That was the only time I left Shattuck. When we got married we started a dairy farm just north of here. Oh yes. I can drive a truck or a tractor or a bailer. “
“He’d get up before dawn and start milking. I’d fix something for breakfast and take over the milking. By the time I was done milking and had the kitchen cleaned he’d be out in the field. I’d go out and see what he needed. If he had the truck loaded with wheat I’d drive it into town to the elevator and get it weighed. Pick up gasoline or whatever was needed and head back to the farm. We raised three children. About ten years ago it became just too much and we sold it and retired.”
“How big was your farm?” I ask.
“Almost 5 sections. About 3,000 acres. Oh my, will you look at all that trash that got washed down from the road. Now we’ll have find someone to pick it up. We’re all volunteer here. Do you know that we have the second biggest collection of windmills in America. They say there’s a bigger collection in Lubbock but they get paid down there and have paved walkways.”
“How many people in Shattuck?” I ask.
“Oh, about 1300 I’d guess but people come from all over the county to help. And once a year we have a windmill jamboree and folks come from as far as Minnesota and California. If they bring a windmill or help fix them we put them up and feed them.
“Now I want you to look in this building.” she says a she unlocks the door.
“These are all the windmills that are being worked on or or too fragile to put outdoors. Now I don’t know much about windmills. But you take a look.” The room is lined with windmills, blades and pumps. “A man up in Laverne donated the building. We’re so lucky to have such generous people here.”
“Well I think I’ve told you everything I know.” as she brings us back to the store.
“We’ll this has been a wonderful time. Do you have a trash bag? I ask.
“Why yes. Right here.” she replies
“I’m going to go out and pick up that trash you mentioned. Lorraine can stay right here and look around.”
I could see the trash wasn’t all that much and 15 minutes would make thing look neat again.
When I returned Lorraine said “Look what I’ve found! A bonnet for the Ashby parade.” holding out a blue bonnet.
“Now you must try it on. Oh my, you have so much hair. There I thinks that’s just right.”
“We’ll use it in our town’s 250th anniversary parade.” Lorraine says.
“Oh, Isn’t that wonderful. I can’t wait to tell Mary. She’s the one who makes them.” she replies
Tumblr media
Lorraine in the bonnet
“Excuse me Ma’am but I don’t think I got your first name.” I say.
“Oh, I never finished the story now did I. Well my folks knew if it was a boy his name would be Clyde. When the doctor told my Dad there were twins and the second was a girl he said right then and there she’s got to be Bonnie. So my brother and I are Bonnie and Clyde.”
“You folks have safe travels.” she says as she gives us each a big hug. “And God bless.”
