SYMIA- “So did everything look okay doctor? I may need to take vitamins, I just haven’t had much of an appetite, this is normal isn’t it?  I wanted to come and see you because I don’t want to keep the baby. I mean I want to bring it to term I just---

DR.ROUSE- “Miss Brown---?

SYMIA- “I just can’t take care of a baby, I start college in the fall and I have so much right now that I have to do, plus I just turned 18. I spoke with the father and he is in agreement that we should give the baby up---

DR. ROUSE- “Miss Brown, please... I need you to listen to me, okay?”

SYMIA- “Sure.  I just didn’t want you to think that I was here to, well you know terminate---

DR. ROUSE- “Miss Brown,... you are not pregnant.”

SYMIA- “I just think there are so may people that want babies that... wait, what did you say???”

DR. ROUSE- “Please, have a seat... I said that you are not pregnant.”

SYMIA- “I don’t understand, I know I am pregnant. I took the test, three of them to be exact. How can I not be pregnant now, I was two weeks ago. Are you sure?”

DR. ROUSE- “Positively sure, you are not pregnant. I checked, and the blood work confirmed it. Not only are you NOT pregnant, but you nave never been pregnant.”

SYMIA- “I don’t understand...”

SYMIA- “Please explain, why did the tests show that I was, and if I am not then why haven’t I had a period?”

DR.ROUSE- “First of all if you took all three of the test at the same time, that is why they all showed a positive.”

SYMIA- “I took them within a half an hour. After the first one showed positive, I took the second one right away because I thought maybe I did something wrong. Then the third one, I suppose I took it because I didn’t want it to be true.”

DR. ROUSE- “A lot of time the tests are not correct and show a positive when your are negative. Many reasons for that, Taking the test too soon, maybe your enzymes levels were high at the time, or even lower than normal. Or you could have been running a fever, or they were just a bad batch of tests. I wanted to make sure so I checked to see if maybe you had been pregnant and you lost the baby, but your cervix and from everything else there I could tell, there is no indication that you were ever pregnant, Miss Brown.”

SYMIA- “But my period is late, really late.”

DR. ROUSE- “Again, that could be a number of reason, some of which I already mentioned. Or it maybe that you are just stressed over the fact that you thought you were pregnant.  So I am going to give you Medroxyprogesterone, take it for three days, each morning. It should help you start, and if not, call me and we will need to do further testing. There could be a lockage in your fallopian tubes, or something else. But you can rest assured, Miss Brown. You are not currently pregnant.”

ROXIE- “So what do I need to do now that I am pregnant? Special diet, cut back on activity???”

DR. ROUSE- “Keep doing everything like you have been doing.  Your body and the babies will let you know when you need to relax and put your feet up. As far as diet, just slow down on a lot of sugars and carbs. Other than that, nature will handle everything else.”

SETH- “So do we have a due date?  And do we know gender yet?”

DR. ROUSE- “I have set the due date out to August 31st, based on when the eggs were fertilized, but like I said this being a multiple pregnancy we can expect anytime after 34 weeks, unless there are complications, of course, which I do not foresee. As far as gender, it is too early to tell right now, give it a few more weeks.”

MARK- “Is this is a for sure thing!? We are having twins?  And they will be here around the end of August early September???!!!”

DR.ROUSE- “Yes, Mark, For Sure...twins. Late august early September.”

MARK- “OH MY WATCHER!!  We have so much to do...twins?!  We need to start on a nursery, do we want one large nursery or two small ones. What color should they be? How about green that is neutral and not gender biased. OH MY!!!”

Everyone just laughed.

After the roads opened back up and the snow dissipated life in Brindleton went back to normal. Dr. Vivian Rouse was the only obstetrician in Brindleton and she was the doctor in charge of the Schrieber’s invitro. She called the parties into her office for a conference. Mark was nervous thinking this was to tell them that the eggs did not attach or something, Roxie was excited as she knew she was pregnant, she could tell the changes in her body, and Seth was just nervous in general...

DR. ROUSE - “I want to get right to the point then we can discuss the perimeters of everything and I can answer any questions you may have. First of all everything is fine. However, only two of the eggs have attached and are growing normally. The ultrasound shows that both fetuses are where they should be and you are officially pregnant.”

DR.ROUSE- “Now as with most multiple pregnancies the risks are higher of course, but Roxie, you are young and extremely fit and healthy, so I see no issues but we will take the same precautions we always do with multiples. You may need bedrest the last few weeks, which again is normal and of course there is a possibility that they may come earlier than the 40 weeks. But they can not come too early. If for whatever reason you go into labor too early, we will need to hospitalize you and try to hold of on delivering them until at the least 34 weeks.

MARK- “So are you saying that we are definitely pregnant then?”

DR.ROUSE- “Most definitely, yes.”

MARK- “And there are two of them!!??”

DR. ROUSE- “Again, yes, Roxie is pregnant with twins. Of course they are not identical, but twins nonetheless.”
