Disney+ Hotstar recently announced their upcoming spine-chilling romantic thriller Freddy. Pohela Boishakh is celebrated by spending time with family, visiting fairs, cleaning one’s house and adorning new clothes. As the year ends, the Bengali community buys the Panjika, a book containing all important dates for the upcoming New Year. All the auspicious events including housewarming and weddings are then planned according to Panjika. Houses are decorated and people create traditional designs called alpana on the floor. A number of delicacies including ilish maach, dhokar dalna, rice, chanar and chanar dal are prepared to welcome the New Year. This one was never on my to-watch list, but just happened to bump into it in a bored moment. And I watched it. And I liked it. AND I made my husband watch it too!! (I Know!) AAANNNNDDD I saw it two times.

Why was I on such a roll... no reason as such but I guess I just liked the idea of a typical rags to riches Disney story. The best part, this Disney story did not have the quintessential lady is distress waiting to be rescued girl, instead it was a feisty, independent and full of life physiotherapist painting the town red.

My favourites; Ratna Pathak and Kirron Kher were just as awesome as they always are. One, the reigning queen and the other, a loud well meaning punjabi mom.

In my personal opinion, this movie also subtly highlights girl power. (No offence) The queen runs a successful business where as her neighboring counter-part, a true born king, was almost going bankrupt. :) 

All in all, a very entertaining movie. Plus, Dr. Mili reminds me of my younger self.
