Living Christianity means unconditional discipleship. From this decisive and living relationship with God, we gain a new perspective on our entire life. Material possessions are not condemned, but relativized, and our human relationships are embedded in the love of God. Christian discipleship and the renunciation of the temporary leads to a spiritual wealth because God does not want to take anything from us, but to give everything!

I am a man wounded by sin who needs Jesus as his physician. When he gazes at me, I realize how much I need him. I have to open myself to this gaze. It is his light that opens my eyes. That is what many who have not yet made this discovery find so difficult to understand: In this gaze I feel that I am a wounded sinner, yet at the same time it gives me indescribable joy.

How often is our life exposed to storms and challenges that frighten and unsettle us? And how often do we not recognize Jesus Christ, who wants to come to us? The Lord's call to the disciples, 'Do not be afraid', is therefore always directed at us. Do not be afraid to recognize Jesus Christ and to follow him.

The Lord's Prayer begins with a double encouragement: By allowing me to call God my Father, he tells me at the same time that I am his child. This promise is the foundation on which all prayer is based and from which all other parts spring: Worship, praise, intercession and thanksgiving are included. And finally the prayer ends again with a promise that we address to God: We say "Amen." We agree and, even more, we anchor ourselves firmly in God. He keeps us.

Is it permissible to experiment on a live human being?
Scientific, psychological, or medical experiments on a live human subject are allowed only when the results that can be expected are important for human well-being and cannot be obtained otherwise. Everything, however, must take place with the free and informed consent of the subject in question. (2292-2295)
Moreover, the experiments must not be disproportionately risky. To make human beings the subjects of research against their will is a crime. The fate of the Polish resistance fighter Dr. Wanda Poltawska, a close confidant of Pope John Paul II, reminds us what was at stake then and still is now. During the Nazi period, Wanda Poltawska was a victim of criminal human experiments in the Ravensbrück concentration camp. Later Dr. Poltawska, a psychiatrist, advocated a reform of medical ethics and was among the founding members of the Pontifical Academy for Life.
