Listen, did Mel make mistakes? Absolutely, but just because I'm a JayVik shipper doesn't mean I'm gonna hate her, especially after making 2 different analyses about how her environment, life, and career contribute to her mistakes and how most of what happened came from generations of oppression from Piltover towards Zaun.
And even more especially when Heimerdinger could actually have done something, so I would like to propose we all shift the blame put on Mel about Zaun's situation towards Heimerdinger, the one who had literal years, decades, and centuries to do something as the former most influential person in Piltover but did nothing for most of it.
Thank you for coming to my presentation!!

TBH, the only character that I tend to actually dislike in Arcane is Heimerdinger, because:
What do you mean you have been there since Piltover was formed? He is listed as a founder.
What do you mean you are more than 3 centuries old and have basically done nothing about the situation between the 2 cities? 307 in the first season and 314 in the second.
What do you mean that you, as a scientist who looks to discovery and has lived for such a long time, first reaction is to want to destroy without explanation the work of another young scientist? Yeah, HexTech did end up bad, but he should know that without an explanation and just saying it is too dangerous, he doesn't fix the issue from the root.
What do you mean you see one of your mentees is dying, said that something that could save them is too dangerous, and when he goes to look for another method(the Hexcore) you just say is evil and to just destroy it? Once again, the Hexcore was evil, but have a little tact while saying instead of exploding in what could be a dying man saving grace.
What do you mean that even though you worked with said mentee for at least a couple of years and knew his situation, the situation of his people, and you, as the HEAD of the government, didn't do anything(that we could see) to help them? Maybe he couldn't take unilateral decisions, but he could have blocked the bad decisions of the council, tried to pass laws, or taken more Zaunites to the academy- anything to not turn a blind eye to the growing issue.
In my past analysis, I said I didn't blame Mel for not changing or helping the undercity as much because, honestly, she was a foreigner in a new high society that most likely couldn't afford to make a wrong step. She didn't have the standing; you know who could have? HEIMERDINGER!!!!! He had if not all the tools, most of them to help out, and he ignores it, and lord do I dislike that the thing he learned from his arc was to ''live in the present'' instead of ''maybe we shouldn't ignore the societies issues and leave a whole group of people in the dirt.''
I don't particularly hate him, but he does make me want to kick him like a ball.
