Some guitar concepts for Randy's guitars. Had a lot of fun working on these. The first couple are store bought repainted guitars, oldest ones he ever had. The others are custom guitars and the last one is World Tour guitar =P I am guessing he has more than 6, but 6 was enough for me to draw at this time lol

I have also played around in Blender and made his first guitar in 3D, rendered in Z-brush.

While Geddy Lee is best known for using basses like his legendary Rickenbacker 4001 in Jetglo and Fender Jazz Bass, another bass guitar of his thats become iconic was his black Rickenbacker 4080/12 Double Neck. 

This bass was a standard 4001 4-string bass on the upper neck, with a 480 12 string guitar on the bottom neck.

This bass was most famously used live for the song ‘Xanadu’, where Geddy played his normal bass parts until Alex’s guitar solo near the end of the song he would switch to the 12 string guitar neck and play a rhythm guitar part while simultaneously playing his Moog Taurus bass pedals with his feet.

And actually, the black double neck wasn’t the only one he had. Geddy also used a white Rickenbacker 4080, this one with a 6 string guitar neck instead of a 12 string on the black double neck. This one he used on ‘A Passage To Bangkok’, again playing the normal bass parts then switching to the guitar neck to play a rhythm guitar part along with the bass pedals during Alex’s solo.

The black 4080/12 was used starting with the A Farewell To Kings tour in 1977 and used until the Moving Pictures tour in 1981, after which it was retired.

The white 4080 was only used for the Hemispheres tour in 1978-79 and the Permanent Waves tour in 1980, after which it was retired.

But thats not the end of the 4080. Geddy brought out a different Fireglo colored 4080/12 along with a Jetglo 4080/12 (unknown if its his original one from the 1970s) for Rush’s final R40 tour in 2015 along with a nearly full version of ‘Xanadu’ as a last hurrah.

G4M Harlem 12/6 Guitar

I have decided, (with a lot of faffing about), that ,like I'm doing with my Ukuleleoftheday stream, I will start to re-post the entries for all of my Chordophones that are not Ukuleles here. This is so that when I update the post with new pictures, (and I do that because I use this stream as an image library for my Ukulele Corner incorporating the Pony Guitar Sanctuary Website), I will be able to show off the new pictures here! And I like to show off!!

Unlike my Ukulele collection my Other Chordophone collection is not as large so there isn't and entry for every day; and I have also beefed it up with some entries for Chordophones that I use to own (- these WON'T be getting any picture updates).

I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoy taking them, (and playing with them), But remember don't criticise to quality of Chordophone, it's not called the "Pony Guitar Sanctuary" for fun, (well it is but that's a different story - and for all non English speakers, and that includes Americans obviously, "Pony" is rhyming slang for Crap, hence the instrument quality).

So lets start with one I haven't actually posted before (because I haven't got around to taking a full set of pictures for it yet! It's very big and tricky to photograph nicely).

theres literally nothing i love more than a musician being dwarfed/ crowded by their instrument setup. space ship drumset and percussive mix to keyboard- synth combos. neil peart tony banks keith moon.. and then of course the Comically large instruments like the harp upright bass double necked guitar/bass/combo and even 2 guitars at once alex lifeson style

Double-neck Stratocaster

This was a custom made guitar by Dick Knight with two standard Fender necks. David wanted to be able to play both normal guitar and slide on the same instrument, so the both necks on the guitar were 6 strings, but the lower neck had higher action on the strings for slides. 🎧
