For Marcus- 1, 3, 5, 11, 13 (an interesting one to think about for Wulfgard), 35, 44, 45
1. What is one word to shut them up?
“Wrong.”  Marcus prides himself on being astute and meticulous in his work, and likes to get as much information as he can about any situation, to minimize mistakes.  When he still makes one, after all that effort, it can leave him speechless, his brain scrambling to figure out what he could have missed.
3. What is the worst pain they’ve ever experienced?
Physically, the worst pain would probably be when his leg was burned by magical fire during the Siege of Veritshire.  He was carrying his wounded older brother with one arm, and dragging his frightened younger brother with the other, when they came face-to-face with the necromancer who had started the whole affair.  Marcus bravely charged to give his brothers time to escape, but the only thing that saved them was the mage taking his sweet time to prolong Marcus’ suffering, slowly wreathing his upper leg in demonic flame.  An Inquisitor who’d been trapped in the city and was helping the local resistance thus had time to strike, wounding the necromancer and saving the three boys.  Marcus still bears the scar, though what once covered most of his upper leg has gotten smaller over time.
Emotionally, his worst pain was also experienced during the Siege, when he lost the love of his life.  His mother was nursemaid to the ruling family, and Marcus had been raised alongside their youngest daughter, Victoria.  Strong-willed, fiercely passionate, and intelligent, she was the leader Veritshire needed in its darkest hour, when the very, very last in the line of succession was suddenly the only living member of her house.  Marcus was her right hand, her rock, the only person she didn’t need to put on a brave face for, but in their last desperate gamble to save the city, he could not save her.  Veritshire would have a future, but its last Baroness would die in his arms, and Marcus feels deep down that he failed both of them.  He would go on to follow the Inquisitor that saved his life, to learn how to wipe magic off the face of the earth, so that no one else would have to suffer as his people did.  However, some nights, when he’s had too much wine, he still sees Victoria’s face.  Sometimes she is laughing and full of life, but more often she is choking on her own blood, once again.  Marcus nearly swore off wine multiple times, because of this.
5. List 3 fears; one “surface level” fear, one “repressed” fear, and one “deep dark” fear.
On the surface, Marcus appears to fear only failure, always striving his hardest to follow his duty well and serve as a shining example of his beloved order.
However, he primarily acts in such a manner due to his repressed fear: Not measuring up/rejection.  As the middle child and a scrawny, brainy youth, Marcus has always had to work hard to stand out in any field.  That, plus his feeling of failure to protect Lady Victoria, has given him a slight inferiority complex.
All of these tie into his deepest, darkest fear: Loss.  Not just losing someone he cares about, though this has kept him from forming any other romantic attachments; but Losing in general.  The thought that someone else’s fate will depend on him alone and that he won’t be up to the task once again absolutely terrifies him.  So, he frets, micromanages, and tries to optimize everything he can control, especially himself.
11. Do they have any vices?
Marcus had a sort of experimental phase with alcoholism, but when the wine only seemed to make his nightmares worse, his obsession with improvement won out.  The same goes for his enjoyment of sweets and cheese, the man is always over-analyzing his intake, never wanting to slip, especially in front of someone else.
I suppose his worst habit would be withdrawing from all social contact, especially when he’s particularly upset.  A wineskin sometimes ends up in the room with him, but not always.
13. Which of the 7 Deadly Sins best describes them?
This one was a struggle to decide on, as Marcus’ stuffy, perfectionist nature made me lean heavily toward Pride, but after reading up a bit more on the 7 Deadly Sins, I decided on Wrath after seeing Dorothy Sayers describe it as "love of justice perverted to revenge and spite.”  Marcus’ entire rationale for joining the order was fuelled by the suffering he and his home had experienced from a single magic user.  He wanted to ensure no one else would suffer the same way, no matter how much blood he had to spill.  It took a long time for him to work out those issues, but a fierce temper does still lurk beneath his kind, disciplined facade.  “Beware the wrath of a quiet man,” as they say.
Of course, that’s not to say he never struggles with pride, but his issues with self-image normally manifest in things he does to himself, not to others.  The sins that keep him up at night, though?  Those were fueled by wrath, most definitely.
35. If they could change one thing about themselves, what would it be?
Marcus would have a hard time picking just one thing, but one thing he is constantly trying to improve is his dexterity.  Sleight of hand, general sneakiness, all would help with his investigations.
44. What’s one thing they wish they could do more often, but can’t?
He honestly misses reading for fun.  Researching for cases and to become a full-fledged Inquisitor was stimulating, but the closest selections in the order’s library to what he enjoys would be the histories of the order, which he has already read multiple times.  Not that he won’t read them again, to see if he missed anything, but it’s just hard to find the time.
45. What is the emotion they most commonly experience?
Anxiety, most likely.  Did he forget to file that report?  Was his tabard on backwards this morning?  Did that mage really deserve execution, or was the counsel just humoring him?  You know, small matters like that.
