wanna write about isekai!polites
Probably going something like:
When he was young, Polites had asked his parents why he was named so. There were other, more famous Greek heroes he could have been named after. Why Polites, a character so small he was mentioned only twice in an epic about another man?
His mother, a lover of classics, a writer of stories, and a professor of literature, had said, "Well, because if we do that, then we could get to call you Polly!" and then had smothered him with kisses until he dissolved into giggles.
His father, the husband of a writer, a tired owner of a farm, and a solemn man that took things way more seriously than his wife, had said, "Because Polites was loved enough to be named, but insignificant enough that the gods or fates or whatever didn't fuck with him. At least, that's what your mother said."
"But wouldn't that be good, if they had noticed him? Then he could've been a hero!"
"Polly, I'm pretty sure in that story, being noticed by the gods was like 70% of the problem."
And so Polites had to accept his name, but at least it hadn't been anything like Eurylochus or something.
Years and years later, after he woke up on a beach surrounded by shipwreck, clutching his now too big glasses in his too small hands, he would come to cling to those words his father had said.
Loved, but insignificant.
May the gods never notice him, because Polites sure as hell already has enough to deal with, what with the 'waking up in Ancient Greece' and what not.
