Eagles Twitter reactions to Lakers signing Lebron James
With the NBA in free agency, there has been a lot of buzz and speculation around Lebron James and his plans for the future. All those conjectures were laid to rest when Lebron’s agency, Klutch Sports, announced he would be going to the Los Angeles Lakers on a four-year contract worth $154 million.

Could Cowboys Have Second Chance at Acquiring RB Donnel Pumphrey?
Could Cowboys Have Second Chance at Acquiring RB Donnel Pumphrey?
It was just a little over a year ago the Dallas Cowboys were rumored to be targeting running back Donnel Pumphrey with their fourth-round draft pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, the Philadelphia Eagles pulled a fast one and traded up to snatch Pumphrey away one pick ahead of when the Cowboys were slotted to pick 133rd overall.
The Dallas Cowboys had to settle for their fallback option,…

Philadelphia Eagles 2017 Draft Grade
Here is the grade for the Philadelphia Eagles for the 2017 NFL draft. Every player receives a short scouting report
The Philadelphia Eagles 2017 draft starts with Tennessee defensive end Derek Barnett. Barnett was one of the most productive defensive players in the SEC with top notch effort every play along with tremendous technique and the ability to use his pass rush moves to set up tackles and defeat blockers to the edge. But Barnett lacks the explosive tests especially in the 40 often relying on his ability to read the snap count. Barnett is very polished as a defensive end who broke Reggie White’s sack record at Tennessee and though he might not have as high of a ceiling as Myles Garrett he has a very high floor and should produce early as a defensive end. The next selection by the Eagles is Sidney Jones, cornerback from Washington. Jones shows top notch ability as a zone defender with incredibly quick ability to read the direction of the play with the acceleration to close on the ball and make the play. However Jones lacks great bulk and played in a relatively simple defensive scheme and didn’t have elite speed as a defensive back but his biggest red flag was his injury during the Washington pro day that likely will take a portion of his rookie season. Jones is a big of a risk due to his injury but he has the feel and talent in zone to take the ball away as a pro with great efficiency. The next player selected by the Eagles is West Virginia cornerback Rasul Douglas. Douglas is a long, powerful outside corner who was a pro at attacking the ball at its highest point taking the ball away an astonishing 8 times last season. But Douglas has a serious lack of speed limiting his ability to play man at the NFL level and lacks elite ability to break on a ball. Douglas is a very good zone corner and has the length to match up with larger NFL receivers though he will have issues dealing with faster backs, he will need to have a large cushion to play man at the next level but he could play very early as an outside corner. Mack Hollins, wide receiver from North Carolina was the next selection for the Philadelphia Eagles. Hollins is a massive outside receiver with enough speed to get behind the defense and create separation, he is a huge endzone threat with experience playing special teams. However he didn’t have a lot of playing experience and is incredibly raw with his routes often running vertical routes at the college level and is a long strider. Hollins will be facing an uphill battle making the roster that has added several offensive weapons but his ability to play special team might allow him to make the roster as a 6th receiver. The next 4th round selection for the Eagles is San Diego State runner Donnel Pumphrey. Pumphrey was a dominant runner at the college level even though he was the main threat in the Aztec offense, he is blessed with elite elusiveness along with good hands coming out of the backfield and very closely resembles Eagles offensive weapon Darren Sproles. Pumphrey is obviously undersized and lacks the strength to be an every down back and he could be limited when on the field due to his below average blocking ability and has little experience as a punt returner. Pumphrey will likely be the heir apparent to Darren Sproles and should see snaps on offense as a weapon the offense can move around to take advantage of matchups. The Eagles select Shelton Gibson, wide receiver from West Virginia with their first 5th round selection. Gibson was a very fast receiver in college and was the big play threat for the Mountaineers offense and is able to play on special teams as a coverage man or a kick and punt returner. However he was unable to run an impressive 40 time at the Combine and had severe issues with his hands that led to many dropped passes and his inability to run the full route tree could lead to issues. Gibson is placed into a very deep wide receiver class so he will need to prove he can be a dominant punt and kick returner to make the roster as a rookie. The second 5th round selection is Nebraska safety, Nate Gerry. Gerry is a large and powerful run support safety with enough talent to cover most runningbacks and tight ends at the college level. However he lacks the fluidity in coverage to and is a tweener with less than linebaker size and less than safety speed that could lead to issues finding a position at the pro level. Gerry will have an issue making the roster until he finds a position on the Eagles defense and with the amount of talented players he could have an issue finding a roster spot unless he can find a spot as a special team player. The final selection by the Eagles is Washington defensive tackle Elijah Qualls. Qualls is a stout and powerful inside rusher with the ability to take up multiple blockers one snap and penetrate thru the offensive line the next. However Qualls lacks the length to knock down passes and will have issues with his effort. Qualls has very good skills and athleticism but will need to consistently perform in order to see the field as a defensive lineman but he could see significant snaps as a nose tackle. The Eagles added 2 very impressive prospects with Derek Barnett and Sidney Jones and both could easily turn into very high level starters on the Eagles defense. However outside of Barnett and Douglas very few selections have a chance of starting as a rookie, but a few players could find niche roles in the offense and defense. Having so little impact players could be an issue but Barnett is considered one of the top pass rushers in the draft and Jones was a high first round selection until his injury at the Washington pro day, so the grade of B- is more than fair for the Eagles draft.

Pumping Up
To say Donnell Pumphrey had a disappointing rookie season, would be a slight understatement. He might have come up big in May and June, but he was small in July and August. Downright tiny, you might even say. He came up way short of expectations. After going on injured reserve, all he could do was spend […] from Iggles Blitz https://ift.tt/2kjq49W via IFTTT

Five Eagles that can create matchup problems for opposing defenses
#Eagles OC Mike Groh wants to take advantage of matchups. Here are five players that can be utilized to do just that.
When Eagles offensive coordinator Mike Groh spoke to the Philadelphia media for the first time, he mentioned how the offense will continue to be a collaborative effort. Groh also explained how he wants to make the offense multiple.

Cowboys Meet With RB Donnel Pumphrey at 2017 NFL Scouting Combine
Cowboys Meet With RB Donnel Pumphrey at 2017 NFL Scouting Combine
With 6,405 rushing yards at San Diego State, production was never an issue for Donnel Pumphrey – who graduated as the FBS’ all time leading rusher. When it comes to the tough business that is the NFL though, Pumphrey’s size and strength issues are already affecting him as a prospect. Projected as a late round project back, the Dallas Cowboys met with Donnel Pumphrey Thursday, reportedly talking…

The XFL’s best moments so far
Tumblr media
The XFL is back, and it’s given us some pretty exciting football thus far.
The XFL has made a comeback, and after two weeks in the books, the league gave us a lot of exciting football. Sure, it’s not the NFL, but having live football on TV less than a week after the Super Bowl was a real treat, and the games were pretty fun to watch.
The XFL has plenty of rules that the NFL should adopt, from putting betting lines on scoreboards to how players line up on kickoffs, so if we’re lucky, maybe the league will consider using some of them in the future.
For now, let’s break down some of the best moments from the XFL season so far. We’ll update this piece each week of the season, or at least however long the season lasts.
Week 3
Best play: This reverse pitch on a kick return touchdown
The XFL’s first-ever kickoff returned for a touchdown was a beauty. The St. Louis BattleHawks’ Keith Mumphery fielded it, then pitched it to Joe Powell on a reverse. Powell then took it to the house 90 yards:
IT'S TRICKY!! Joe Powell to the crib on the return!! #ForTheLoveOfFootball x #ClearedToEngage pic.twitter.com/a0L6MkVMc3
— St. Louis BattleHawks (@XFLBattleHawks) February 23, 2020
This is a good example of the XFL’s kickoff rules being beneficial, too. The XFL lines up both teams on the same side as the receiving team. Players can then only move forward after the returner fields the ball, which makes the play a lot safer and more exciting.
The league’s full kickoff rules can be found here.
Best Bud Light seltzer chug: This guy literally tore the top of the can off with his teeth
No, I’m not kidding, this actually happened. Don’t try at home what BattleHawks defensive tackle Jake Payne did, people:
He just...tore the top off...with his teeth. We love Bud Light Seltzer Lounge seltzer celebrations.@budlight pic.twitter.com/0Fc3tsG9ne
— XFL (@xfl2020) February 23, 2020
I’m not even mad. This is impressive.
Best celebration: LA Wildcats running back Martez Carter’s backflips
Carter finished with three touchdowns during the Wildcats’ 39-9 win over the DC Defenders. During one of his scores, he literally flipped into the end zone after promising on-air he’d show off his backflip:
Martez Carter said if he had "one more in the box" he'd bust out his signature backflip. He then front flipped INTO the box. Mr. Excitement @ThatManCarterIV pic.twitter.com/ccMEbJDCaX
— XFL (@xfl2020) February 24, 2020
He celebrated yet another touchdown with another backflip in the end zone:
MARTEZ CARTER IS ADDICTED TO SCORING TOUCHDOWNS AND DOING BACKFLIPS pic.twitter.com/R0jC5ihkMD
— XFL (@xfl2020) February 24, 2020
I’d like to see a lot more backflip celebrations, please.
Best player: LA Wildcats QB Josh Johnson
Johnson helped the Wildcats get their first W of the season after throwing for 278 yards and three touchdowns. He averaged 11.1 yards per attempt, too!
Josh Johnson was as consistent as he was dominant in the @XFLWildcats' first win ever pic.twitter.com/ZQHWt7vUkQ
— XFL (@xfl2020) February 24, 2020
Johnson has played for a lot of different NFL teams, but he was with Washington most recently in 2018. He played in the last four games of the season due to injuries to Alex Smith and Colt McCoy. He finished the year 1-2 as a starter.
Best trade: This ingenious Girl Scout who successfully traded a box of Thin Mint cookies for a football
I mean, this is just smart all around. BattleHawks defensive tackle Casey Sayles found the fan holding the sign to make the trade:
Success. You just love to see it. pic.twitter.com/OcECoXSWrY
— XFL (@xfl2020) February 23, 2020
Thin Mints are basically the only Girl Scout cookies that matter (don’t @ me), so this is both a fair and great trade, IMO.
Week 2
Best postgame celebration: Bud Light seltzers
Bud Light is a sponsor of the XFL, so naturally, players get to celebrate with Bud Light seltzers after they win. Of course, the league provides very important footage of these winning locker rooms. This one from the Houston Roughnecks after their Week 2 win over the St. Louis Battlehawks might be my favorite:
FOLKS, we may have the best @budlight Seltzer celebration yet. pic.twitter.com/HEjgTdZBIw
— XFL (@xfl2020) February 17, 2020
And why of course there are seltzer shotgun celebrations!
We LOVE a celebratory @budlight Seltzer shotgun pic.twitter.com/9noLYB61rL
— XFL (@xfl2020) February 15, 2020
My favorite part about this tweet is the hashtag #MutedForLanguage:
To the victors goes the @budlight Seltzer #RaisingHell #RaisingSeltzer #MutedForLanguage pic.twitter.com/pXXGFBcnWG
— Dallas Renegades (@XFLRenegades) February 16, 2020
These are just too fun:
Will we ever get tired of these post-game celebrations? No. No we won't. pic.twitter.com/PsdEqHAWOL
— XFL (@xfl2020) February 16, 2020
Keep these coming, winning XFL teams.
Best moment with fans: DC Defenders offensive tackle Cole Boozer literally boozed with fans after games
Boozer played college at Temple, and spent two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from May 2018 until December 2019. He’s the Defenders’ starting right tackle now, and after DC’s 27-0 win over the New York Guardians in Week 2, he shared some celebratory beers with fans after the game:
His last name is Boozer, number 69 and he slams beers with the fans immediately after games. LEGEND. @bussinwtb (Via ig:lillewi4) pic.twitter.com/oGhGsmVXqo
— Barstool Sports (@barstoolsports) February 16, 2020
Just incredible.
Best on-field celebration: A Tampa Bay Viper player literally made a snake symbol!
Yup, Tampa defensive tackle Nikita Whitlock did this after making a defensive play:
This celebration is pic.twitter.com/uY5vyUwInL
— XFL (@xfl2020) February 15, 2020
Gotta respect the creativity here.
Coolest rule on display: The double forward pass
The DC Defenders pulled off this successful double pass against the Guardians, as running back Donnel Pumphrey passes back to QB Cardale Jones, who found his receiver DeAndre Thompkins way downfield:
WE HAVE A DOUBLE FORWARD PASS FOLKS @ABCNetwork https://t.co/P39leRxPZY pic.twitter.com/EK2BPQr1sS
— XFL (@xfl2020) February 15, 2020
Please implement this rule into the NFL, Roger Goodell.
Week 1
Best in-game interview: Seattle Dragons C Dillon Day, who literally dropped an f-bomb on live television
No, I’m not kidding! In the first game of the season between Seattle and the DC Defenders, Day said the f-word on air after he was flagged for a personal foul penalty:
The XFL sideline interview is great "I'm just trying to get my fucking job done" pic.twitter.com/oIAsOH7nMP
— gifdsports (@gifdsports) February 8, 2020
The best part is ABC immediately cutting off ESPN sideline reporter Dianna Russini’s microphone off, but it was too late. Everyone heard it, and it was glorious.
Sideline reporters’ access to coaches and players mid-game is one of the cooler parts about the XFL’s broadcasts — after a player makes a big play, they can be interviewed right after. This gives viewers real-time reactions you don’t see too often in the NFL.
Player of the week: Houston Roughnecks QB P.J. Walker
Houston’s QB threw for 272 yards and four touchdowns in the Roughnecks’ 37-17 win over the LA Wildcats, who then fired defensive coordinator Pepper Johnson two days after the game (!). Walker is only 5’11, but he stood tall in the pocket when he needed to, and didn’t shy away from making throws on the run, either:
youtube
Walker, who previously went by Phillip, played college football at Temple from 2013-16, and during his senior season he became the school’s all-time leading passer. He signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2017, and was on and off their practice squad intermittently until August 2019.
St. Louis Battlehawks quarterback Jordan Ta’amu also is worthy of an honorable mention, going 20-of-27 passing for 209 yards and a touchdown, and added another 77 yards on the ground to beat the Dallas Renegades, 15-9.
Ta’amu had a brief stint with the Houston Texans in 2019, but was released within a month.
Coolest rule: Instant replay
The transparency the XFL has with instant replay is so awesome. On the TV broadcasts, you can hear the replay booth taking a look at each call, and the replay officials are mic’d up:
Look at it. Talk about it. Get. The. Call. Right. @ESPN https://t.co/8ZLP59ONRO pic.twitter.com/jkdZGJYh2Y
— XFL (@xfl2020) February 9, 2020
I think this is a great way for fans to understand the decision-making process on certain calls, and having a better understanding of certain rules, too. I’d love to see something like this from the NFL’s replay center in New York.
The XFL regular season is 10 weeks long, with the playoffs and championship scheduled for late April. We’ll be along for the ride throughout the season.
And if you’re not sure which XFL team to root for this year, we’ve got you covered right here!
