Would it be alright to ask you advice on curating my fandom experience? Regarding avoiding b///kshippers and the like, unfortunately. I don't know who else to ask, unless you or your followers know of someone? I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable.
I guess so, yeah! Would be easier if you're off anon, admittedly, or on discord or the like. I'm not sure what specific info I can give tbh?
I can give some general advice though
Block people if you don't like them, and mute/block terms you don't like. Use filters liberally.
This is the internet, things that should not exist unfortunately do, and we cannot change what others do. It's not worth your time and energy or mental health to try and change other's minds on this, i promise.
Personally, I prefer to block and mute individual people instead of filter tags or block terms. I'd rather catch and block the source, so I can keep certain people from interacting with my blogs or fics. Some people would simply rather not see anything at all, so block and filter anything associated with it. It's genuinely up to each person.
But remember this IS and will always be the internet. The unfortunate truth is that you WILL see stuff you don't want to, sometimes in the least likely of places. Sometimes people won't tag. Sometimes it'll ruin your day. But if you wanna engage with fandoms and media online, you have to know this, and you have to be able to decide when the risk is not worth it.
It sucks, it really sucks that this is how it is, but it is :(
But yeah! Know what works for you! Block people! Block tags! That's genuinely the best thing to do, and at the end of the day almost all you CAN do. At least it's a powerful tool.
Good luck anon! If you need more specific advice you can ask, though it's no guarantee i'll have an answer
(Oh, another thing I suggest is, if it's a fandom like submas that has big presences in other languages, if you cannot speak those languages find the tag for the ship or whatever it is you don't like IN THAT LANGUAGE and block it
In english, if I see ship art I don't want to see, I can easily read the tag and block the artist. In japanese, I cannot read the tags, so blocking the tags helps me not see it because as we all know, sometimes it's hard to recognize what's a ship art piece and what isn't!
It's not foolproof, but it definitely helps me avoid artists I cannot read the tags of, and find artists that don't create stuff like that! because I personally love finding cool art from all over the world, despite not being able to read it.)

I'm someone who isn't interested in content surrounding OCs. People are free to create them and to whatever with them and good for them but I'm just not interested in them. I once very politely asked some vocal anti to give tags when they share something and they just got pissed at me. Saying that every character be it canon or not is someones OC and I should respect them. This person also constantly screeches about boundaries and all that stuff but apparently it only goes one way. It's okay to ignore someones boundaries if one doesn't think something worthy of tagging.
I dunno. Once again shows hypocrisy at its finest at the side of the antis.
Disgusting content and all that aside: still thinking that I rather hang out with shippers than those snowflake antis who weep when someone is a bit harsher than usual but decide to ignore boundaries if they think they are "pointless"
so far I feel like OC content has always been tagged on your end (if it does show up) so I'm very thankful for that. Also I know you won't give me shit for my opinion. I'm just not interested in some special OC Karen/Kevin who is all the genders and none and wants to fuck the twins or any of that nonsense... as well as all the projection into the depot agents... a-nnoy-ing. But other people are free to like them. I am just not interested.
sorry for the little vent this has been boiling inside of me for a while and I needed to get it out of the system... honestly I'm thankful for your blog and content and even if you're often harsh with your words I think you're a cool and fun person to have around. Aside the rants I also enjoy your in depth character analysis or when you write your opinions on something. It makes me curious and interested even if I'm out of the loop with the franchise! Thank you for your content and I hope you're having a great time!
Do you mean like self-inserts? -Or OCs in general created to be shipped with a popular character? I usually don't pay attention unless I really like them. I can only think of a few off the top of my head. IE: ceciloque and the artist who did something cute with Volo. Neither did ships. One was a protag friends with the Subway Twins, the other hated Volo in a facetious way. I also liked the Generic Protag guy but lost interest in him when he made Gene leave Hisui (also the artist soft blocked me, so I don't show up in the tags).
I could see someone getting annoyed with OCs if they do that thing where they make a Mary Sue OC with a harem of OC partners and who goes around making every single canon character fall for them. The two things that aggravate my OCD are off models and implausible cross overs. Extra points if they cover both. You might have read some of my rants in the past, like the most aggravating one of all is when someone makes the Subway Bosses not twins anymore. IE: What if one was a guy and the other was a unicorn? -Or a dog. -Or a fugly mermaid? -Or a llama that vaguely resembles Arceus? (Had to dig up the original post that started a certain tag).
None of that stuff really bothers me on the general tags because I get why people do it. People want to come up with reasons to keep their interest going, and when content runs out with canon, then AUs keep the character alive for them. It's funny with me personally, I can keep myself occupied posting literally the same thing for years, but of course it's not going to be enough because interests change.
Thought of that today when I queued up yet another fan art of Dabi and Shoto sitting side-by-side eating soba together, and that's the equivalent of a Submas reunion hug in my mind, although with Dabi it might have a darker meaning. He might be lying in his tank barely alive having that thought of eating soba with his brother circulating through his mind in a continuous loop. He's done being mad and wants to think of something happier than dying.
I'm about to be guilty of creating a Geten x OC for my latest fan fiction to keep it going, just because I got stuck on the ending. I needed a female character with a specific ability, and the only person who had said ability was one of the advisors for Team Brown: Support Regiment which will create more content to give Geten and Mr. Compress something to talk about when they are eventually incarcerated in adjacent rooms. I decided to make my OC a sibling to to that unnamed advisor. It's me creating an OC but staying within canon. If I were motivated and adverturous enough to keep the thing going past manga canon ending, I'd still keep it in the MHA universe.
I wouldn't be like, "Let's do My Hero Academia Star Wars! -And make Geten a mermaid pirate and Dabi a succubus werewolf with a double-sided light saber!" That would be the exact sort of shit that would drive me up the wall.

Someone did an *amazing* take on Ingo as a butler on Ao3, would you ever want to do anything like that as an x Reader fic? :3 I really like your drabbles on Arktheion btw! <3
Thank you for your kind words anon <3
I think I know what you're talking about anon and ye in my WIP folder there is something like that; definitely more service-y/sub submas vibes, but also it's 100% SFW fluff and romantic pining from the butler bros rather than anything steamy. I just love the Victorian romance aesthetic of *gasp* she'sshowinganankle how PROVOCATIVE- *faints*. Pure comedy gold right there
Some of the stuff is how they act as butlers, like
Emmet bends at the waist to get down to the height of his Lady sitting in her seat, whereas Ingo would rather kneel so that he's looking up at her respectfully. Emmet thinks his Lady looks so cute when she's looking up at him, whereas Ingo thinks it's far more respectful and befitting of his Lady if he doesn't have to make her crane her neck to look at him.
Butler Emmet likes things that are more savory or salty whereas Butler Ingo has the Biggest Sweet Tooth Ever; what this means for their Lady is if she asks for snacks she's either going to get delicious fresh baked herbed bread with unsweetened hot tea or a pile of cookies and a lightly sweetened beverage to match them; of course, they try to get things they think their Lady would like but their own tastes get in the way usually.
They're both head butlers, though Ingo being the "older" one has more seniority than Emmet. They keep the house staff running like a postal service/rail way to be quite honest, and a lot of staff find their obsession to schedules and details, while precise, annoyingly overbearing.
Also I usually imagine them as being super innocent. Like stupidly so. They won't go anywhere near the maids quarters or their Lady's chambers for fear of walking in at the wrong moment, and they chastise themselves for even thinking about what could be occurring during those "wrong moments". IDK. It's dumb but it's stuck in my head and won't get out
But as an x Reader fic, I'll have to think about it. I'm writing some stuff for my friend's DnD campaign, and that takes slight precedence over any fics because we can't really play the game if we don't have the materials lol

Comic anon again,. I’m, not sure how to say this or even if I should but, Please don’t put yourself down like that.
I understand if you feel you don’t have any advice but “other amazing artists” makes it sound like you don’t consider yourself one. Maybe I’m just over-thinking it, but.
I ask you because your blog makes me happy. I ask you because you’re a kind and informative person behind all the submas work. Because I trust you and your opinions and I know you better than some of the other artists here,, I just feel better able to connect with you. I feel understood.
So I hope you don’t think of yourself as less of an artist than others,, that breaks my heart. And thank you for showing me your references tag, sometimes a good collection like that helps a lot.
Tumblr media
Oh, geez, anon, thank you so much! I'm sorry if you thought I was putting myself down - I was more confused because I haven't actually done longer-form comics with Submas, and I haven't drawn a proper comic in ages! I used to do it more often, but I've gotten so busy that the most I have time for is the short sequential things I post on my art blog. In general, my real-life job as an archivist keeps me busy so I don't get to work on comics the way I did when I was younger because I'm full-time now!
So in that case, here's some stuff I learned when doing webcomics when I was younger and had something resembling spare time:
Starting small is important to get the hang of things. I didn't do longer stories at first - just things that would only take a few panels to tell, so I could get the hang of things. Four-panel gag comics are great to learn from for this.
Always warm up before you draw anything! It'll keep your hand and arm from cramping. Also, make sure you stay hydrated and move every so often!
Somewhere in my references tag that I linked you to are some tutorials on designing panels, framing the characters (rule of threes is super important), and things like that.
Sometimes when I'm trying to get the hang of drawing a new character I do entire pages of just different facial expressions for them. It's fun, it's good practice, and sometimes that can give you ideas to work from, too!
For one-shot comics, the best source for ideas has always been my actual life. Library patron says something weird to me? Now a passenger has said something bizarre to Conductor on the train and he's trying to tell his co-workers about the weird conversation afterwards and wheezing with laughter over it. Strange experience in NYC? Redraw it with Unova characters.
If you're stuck, it's okay to practice by tracing things so you can get an idea of how to move your hands - just don't steal someone else's art, obviously, but for practice this helps you get some muscle memory! And of course, references are your friends! The majority of my selfies are actually me trying to pose and get facial expressions right so I can draw them.
I hope this is a better answer, anon, and I really appreciate that you care about me and don't want me selling myself short! That means a lot, thank you!
