What is your top 10 of the Disney princesses?
Oooo, thank you so much for the ask!!
Before I start, I just want to say that this is my opinion. I don't hate any of these heroines well, almost, but some of them are not interesting to me, and I simply don't have strong feelings about them. In this top I included all the official princesses plus Anna, Elsa, Moana (although, I think she's actually an official one?), Elena, and Raya. In total, sixteen.
I'll share my thoughts on all of them, but add the pictures only for the main 10 since Tumblr has a limit of media and I don't know how to avoid it ×)
So, let's get started!
Princesses who don't get to my Top-10:
16. Merida: I don't want to be over too negative, but Merida is the only princess I can't say anything positive about. She's selfish, arrogant, never listens to anyone, tries to change her mom (while being blind to her own flaws), which almost leads to her death. I don't want to offend anyone who likes her, but she's most unlikable heroine to me.
15. Raya. There's nothing wrong about her. I'm simply not attracted to her. I like the relationship she shares with her father, her bravery, confidence, and strength. However, I don't like her over too suspicious and dramatic nature, like, "everything is bad. The world is rotten." Plus, her being a totally warrior-like female character. This kind of character is not for me at all.
14. Moana. Moana is a good character. She's selfless, kind-hearted, brave, and adventurous. The only reason I can't put her higher - I'm simply not attracted to her and don't really think about her. Maybe, she will grow on me, but for now, she's a good, but not my kind of character.
13. Elsa. Probably, the most unpopular opinion of all. Elsa is a well-written character. She's complex and does have a good development. Despite all of that, her personality is blank. I don't know how describe her, without getting to her powers, which makes her very uninteresting to me.
12. Snow White. I have a mentality of an old lady and do love the old Disney princesses, don't mind me. Snow White is very sweet and humble, and I love how caring she is to the seven dwarfs. I know people tend to think she's boring and weak as a character, but despite that, I still like her, just for the fact she's a good and kind person.
11. Ariel. Ariel never was my favourite, and I do think she's a bit arrogant and spoiled, considering her dream to get to the human world, leaving her family (which loves her) behind. Anyway, I still love her curious and dreamy nature. Besides, she's very brave and strong, without being "too much", which I like.
My Top-10:
10. Aurora.
Aurora is special to me. For a reason I don't know myself, she was my favourite Disney princess when I was a child. Yes, she barely has screen time. Yes, she barely speaks. Yes, she has a more minor role in her own movie than the other characters.
But.
Even now, rewatching "Sleeping Beauty" quite recently, I still love Aurora, and she doesn't seem boring to me at all. She's elegant, dreamy, intelligent, strong in her way, and she remains very special to me.
9. Cinderella.
Cinderella is a decent, hardworking, and dreamy person. She literally serves to her stepmother and stepsisters, but she still doesn't accept the life she has as she may get annoyed with them and attends the ball, after all. She believes she will have a better life, and for me, all of that makes her a very enjoyable character.
8. Pocahontas.
I always had mixed feelings about Pocahontas. Anyway, I can say I really love her now! She's wise, down-to-earth, calm, reasonable, but at the same time, she may be a bit childish and funny, which makes her a very colourful and unique character, imo. She's also courageous, caring, and loving, which I really appreciate too!
7. Rapunzel.
Rapunzel is a sweetheart! She's very positive, kind, outgoing, creative, loving, caring, brave, and smart. She sees only the best in people and inspires others, which is very likable to me! But at the same time, she can stand up for herself and show the strength of her personality. She's truly amazing!
6. Tiana.
I love Tiana so much! She's hardworking, ambitious, goal-oriented, strong, stubborn, resourceful, reasonable, responsible, and super smart. She achieves all her goals, thanks to the strength of her own personality, which makes her a perfect role model. She also cherishes her family, thinks about them, and guides and inspires Naveen. I truly admire her for everything!
5. Anna.
There's honestly a thousand reasons why I love Anna. She's a very bright and shining person with a great love and care for her sister. She supports her unconditionally and always tries to do her best to make other people around her happier, too. Yes, she's naive and reckless, but she's grown up from it, and in Frozen 2 she gets even more love from me as she becomes a voice of reason for Elsa and makes more thoughtful decisions than she used to. She's super courageous, selfless, stubborn, strong-willed, and outgoing. She has an amazing personality plus she got a great development, which makes her a perfect character to me. She's a true hero.
4. Belle.
I love how smart and intelligent Belle is. She's elegant and feminine, but she also has the will and strength to stand up for herself and defend whom she loves. She sees the inner beauty in others and loves her father to death, sacrificing herself to save him. She's a very selfless and decent person, and she's a very old favourite of mine.
3. Jasmine.
I love Jasmine! She might seem a bit spoiled since she's a princess and literally does have everything. Despite that, she has a big heart and wants to get married by love, which also confirms how kind-hearted she is. She's elegant, feminine yet sassy, brave, and stubborn. Also, she knows how to speak up and show her value without being aggressive and hysterical hello, Jasmine from live action. Jasmine will always be one of my the most favourite Disney princesses, even though she tends to be a bit unpopular.
2. Elena.
My sweet Elena!! I think I didn't surprise anyone by putting her so high. Elena is an amazing character. I really love how well-rounded and well-balanced she is. She's a brave, confident, positive, funny, very enjoyable person. But despite her young age and impulsivity, she's also very mature and wise as she's been through a lot (death, betrayal) and learns how to be a ruler. She's an inspiring leader and always believes in others, supporting and motivating them.
She cherishes her family and friends and always puts them first, which also makes her very selfless, caring, and loving. She has a plenty of flaws, but she learns from her mistakes, even from the fatal ones, like not forgiving Esteban. The thing which I also like is that she's an ass-kicking princess. Elena is just here to murder her enemies in a pretty dress with a stylish hairstyle, and I live for it.
People may keep complaining about Elena getting a TV series, instead of a movie, but the years-long story simply makes her the most complex and dynamic character (who also gets a colourful personality) among the other princesses. I love her to death and truly wish we had more female characters like Elena. She really is gorgeous.
1. Mulan.
With all my deep love to Elena, Mulan remains my favourite Disney princess. She's incredibly selfless, resourceful, smart, brave, strong, hardworking, persistent, and kind.
She sacrifices herself to save his father, literally going toward death. In the army, she works hard to get to the level of the other soldiers. She shows an unbelievable courage and mind on the war (which is one of my most favourite things about her: she's brave, but thinks before acting), defeating Huns and saving Shang by risking her own life. And she doesn't give up when her secret is revealed.
Mulan has been my favourite Disney princess for years, and I will never be able to describe how much I love her. Everything about her personality and deeds make me truly admire her.
She's a strong female character, but without that over too much of independence, like most of modern Disney female characters have now. She cares about her family, even more than about herself, and she does have a love interest (and really, Shang is wonderful. Don't try to convince me otherwise), but it never belittled her own value. I love her and will always do!
"The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all." ❤
And that's it! I'm pretty sure my top is a bit unpopular, but really, if you want, feel free to share yours! I would be glad to know which princesses you all like! And thank you again for the ask!!
