Huraker, Priest of Deep Sea Dolphin , has always done as her Lady commanded. All for the grand scheme, the meticulous fate that her mistress saw in her visions since the beginning. So why, when she has been asked to follow a meddling sorceress and her band, has she begun to feel something else form behind her manipulations and falsehoods?

Why in defiance of her purpose and very being, do her Lady's words come back to haunt her?

Spoilers under the cut!

--What’s Lina doing in her home province, I wonderrrr....

--Wow Norst gets name-dropped FAST.  I’m surprised there are remnants of Dynast’s people but at the same time we’ve seen the last remnants of a mazoku lord’s regime going after Lina for revenge.  I do wonder who our big  bad will be. 

--Nobody’s mentioned whether this is a new cast beyond Lina and Gourry, or whether Zel, Amelia and Xelloss might return. I hope at least Xelloss does. 

--Lina seems kinda subdued, or maybe that’s just me?  And I don’t just mean the parts where she’s legitimately worried about Norst’s identity. Is Kanzaka trying to show she’s much older? 

--A whole lot of kinda clunky exposition, I think Kanzaka is kind of getting back into the swing of writing new content. Which is fine and understandable. I just recall all the other novels moving at a faster pace.

--This part is news to me, and interesting: 

So evidently people see mazoku as some kind of boogeyman figure to scare children and religious zealots with, not an actual daily threat, as they truly are? No wonder Xelloss et al can go relatively undetected for millennia. No wonder nobody still knows Rezo lost his marbles when Shabranigdu possessed him. 

--So Dynast had FOUR servants, instead of two?! That powers Sherra down from Xelloss even more, because each mazoku lord is only given a certain amount of set energy to disperse among servants. So the fewer the servants, the stronger each is.  Huh. Sounds like he was a really shitty creator too.

--Norst is a guy. Shame. Always hoped he was a girl. 

--I love that unlike Xelloss, Norst has trouble corporating correctly, and making his “clothes” look right. 

--I think he’s playing her and knows who “Lita” really is. The Priests are always shrewd and sneaky.  ....oop nope I was wrong but the physical freak-out of the vicinity and the wan little “I see” are fantastiiiiic >8)  

--OHO OHO HE’S A GENERAL OHO.  NEW CANON, THAT WAS NOT WHAT WAS UNDERSTOOD BY THE FANDOM UNTIL NOW OHO OHHHHH BOY HE GON’ BE VIOLENT. >8)))))) 

--Oh my God or a neurotic mess LOL????? 

--”THAT PERSON” I see the maozku are still afraid of saying LoN’s name, delicious....

--She’s both the Dragon Spooker and the Demon Spooker and my nasty little Xelfi heart is delighted by the extremely oblique reference to the feuding factions of dragons and mazoku. 

--This opinion comes straight from Xelloss and Zelas I just KNOW it does: 

“The opinion of the higher-ups” and with Riksfalto, Huraker, Dynast, Sherra, Phibrizzo+ servants and Gaav + servants all dead, that leaves Zelas, Dolphin and Xelloss as the “higher ups” omg he has really been promoted here, if you read between the lines.

--The FEAR Norst holds toward the concept of “ambiguity” is fascinating. Perhaps the mazoku need to define things as clearly as the ryuuzoku and shinzoku (which is why humans are always a source of consternation, especially humans like Lina). 

--OH. SHIT THEY’RE IN THE OUTERWORLD AREN’T THEY?! Norst feigned hysterical apologies and sent them to the Outerworld.  Lmao is this a retcon of Try, which its’s already strangely popular to hate, or a revisitation of the Outerworld? I bet I know the answer. 

--OH SHIT I forgot in the novels they haven’t broken down the mazoku barrier yet!!!!!!!!!! :U!!!!!!!!!

--Lmao Kanzaka likes making everyone suspicious “about thirty years old.”  

Verdict: too few familiar and beloved elements to truly enjoy it, aside the initial scene with Norst. Kanzaka is trying to retcon TRY and assert his novels-only original continuity, and I guess  that would interest me more if it didn’t feel a lot like a rehashing of the duller elements from TRY, but with less interesting (again, aside Norst) characters.  Hoping and trusting it’ll pick up the pace soon.  REALLY missing Zel, Ame, and Xelloss.    Thanks SO MUCH to translators, beta readers, and editors.
