I ride the dolphin, guided by the ocean's rhythm. As I move through the water, I feel my connection to the sea. The waves are my intuition and the sun is my awakening. 🐬🌊🌞

I am genuinely curious, what are your thoughts about SeaWorld Orlando’s dolphin swim, where you swim with dolphins for half an hour and then get a deep water tow?
Hi! I'm assuming you mean the swim program at their sister facility Discovery Cove (which is right across the street from them), since as far as I know the actual SeaWorld park in Orlando doesn't do any in-water programs at the moment.
I talked more in-depth about it here, but I'm personally fine with swim-with programs at accredited facilities. The dolphins are always free to leave the encounter at any time, and the interactions are carefully supervised. They are incredibly powerful animals and are not harmed by dorsal tows (or foot pushes), which is something I've seen claimed by PETA-type groups.
Speaking from my own ancedotal experience (the park where I interned offered swim-with programs as their main attraction), these types of encounters can be even more educational than shows or exhibits. Guests are in small groups and have the opportunity to talk with the trainers one-on-one. Swimming with dolphins is a "bucket list" experience for a lot of people, and this is far safer and more ethical than harrassing animals in the wild; I know that my internship facility always included a spiel about why approaching dolphins in the wild is unwise (and illegal)! Of course, there were plenty of animal rights-inclined locals on social media who encouraged tourists to forgo visiting the park and swim with wild dolphins instead, and lots of sketchy dolphin tours that would chase down pods and then encourage people to jump in the water with them.
Discovery Cove is one of the best of the best when it comes to encounter facilities. If you're looking for a swim-with-the-dolphins program, I recommend following the same guidelines as you would for any zoo or aquarium: checking for AZA/AHA/AMMPA accreditation, recent or especially egregious USDA violations, etc.

There's something to be said (and, perchance, in a positive way) when you've got Peter Potamus bringing along his nephews (Patrick and Perry II) on one of the uncle's journeys via The Magic Balloon into Polynesia Uncharted.
And it's mainly learning much (and in a positive way) about some fascinating primitive peoples who prefer otherwise keeping to themselves (and manage to like it as much) that have earned the respect of Peter Potamus and his late father.
Especially learning paddleboard technique involving the Australian Kneelo such in transport to and from the Magic Balloon at anchor just off the Three-Mile Line traditional, vis-a-vis the principal island of otherwise unknown kingdoms whose lifestyle of untrammelled nakedness can get to be rather fascinating in its own manner.
Not to mention brushing up on diving (naked, naturally, in a positive way) in waters where the dolphins are unusually welcoming and rather likable diving companions which can run rings around those in aquariums and dolphinariae because such friendships as these natives have are natural and come from nature.
And what could feel more comfortable unto the nephews (and in a natural sort of way) than to be naked in the native Polynesian manner, naked as Nature intended even ... and to recognise the "facts of life" as being wonderfully natural by way of native ladies who recognise such wonder as a natural given.
And to sense the wonder of a Polynesian sunset with the tide laping its way to shore, with the sheer comfort of a grass skirt in traditional dance followed, perhaps, by discovering a primitive kind of love most magical, most natural and most unrestrained in a naturally Polynesian manner otherwise decimated in the name of warped and racist "Manifest Destiny."
Do these poesies still fascinate you, fellow Hanna-Barberians? And hast thou and thine such poesy you might find enjoyable for this Sunday midday presence?

The Best News of Last Week
1. ‘We are just getting started’: the plastic-eating bacteria that could change the world
In 2016, Japanese scientists Oda and Hiraga published their discovery of Ideonella sakaiensis, a bacterium capable of breaking down PET plastic into basic nutrients. This finding marked a shift in microbiology's perception, recognizing the potential of microbes to solve pressing environmental issues.
France's Carbios has successfully applied bacterial enzyme technology to recycle PET plastic waste into new plastic products, aligning with the French government's goal of fully recycling plastic packaging by 2025.
2. HIV cases in Amsterdam drop to almost zero after PrEP scheme
According to Dutch AIDS Fund, there were only nine new cases of the virus in Amsterdam in 2022, down from 66 people diagnosed in 2021. The organisation claimed that 128 people were diagnosed with HIV in Amsterdam in 2019, and since 2010, the number of new infections in the Dutch capital has fallen by 95 per cent.
3. Cheap and drinkable water from desalination is finally a reality
In a groundbreaking endeavor, engineers from MIT and China have designed a passive solar desalination system aimed at converting seawater into drinkable water.
The concept, articulated in a study published in the journal Joule, harnesses the dual powers of the sun and the inherent properties of seawater, emulating the ocean’s “thermohaline” circulation on a smaller scale, to evaporate water and leave salt behind.
4. World’s 1st drug to regrow teeth enters clinical trials
The ability to regrow your own teeth could be just around the corner. A team of scientists, led by a Japanese pharmaceutical startup, are getting set to start human trials on a new drug that has successfully grown new teeth in animal test subjects.
Toregem Biopharma is slated to begin clinical trials in July of next year after it succeeded growing new teeth in mice five years ago, the Japan Times reports.
5. After Decades of Pressure, US Drugmaker J&J Gives Up Patent on Life-Saving TB Drug
In what can be termed a huge development for drug-resistant TB (DR-TB) patients across large parts of the world, bedaquiline maker Johnson and Johnson said on September 30 (Saturday) that it would drop its patent over the drug in 134 low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
6. Stranded dolphins rescued from shallow river in Massachusetts

7. ‘Staggering’ green growth gives hope for 1.5C, says global energy chief
The prospects of the world staying within the 1.5C limit on global heating have brightened owing to the “staggering” growth of renewable energy and green investment in the past two years, the chief of the world’s energy watchdog has said.
Fatih Birol, the executive director of the International Energy Agency, and the world’s foremost energy economist, said much more needed to be done but that the rapid uptake of solar power and electric vehicles were encouraging.

Quite a good depiction of the interior, too >:)
(also zoom in on the bottom left of the map! a lovely vignette)
The 1811 Freycinet map of Australia. The first map to have a reasonably accurate outline of the continent. Produced by the Baudin Expedition of 1800-1803.
#straya!#top marks freycinet#we will now name a peninsula and national park after you#and generations of australians will slightly mispronounce your name#just ask kozciuszko#but this is a very cool map#i feel a bit spoiled by having access to satellite imagery#imagine having to go around the whole country in a tall ship#then drawing up a beautiful account of your discoveries#all so that some idiot in the future can look at it on a tiny rectanglw#and say#'this is a very cool map'#'but my favourite part is the scene in the bottom left with the birds and dolphins'#i mean#it is so full of movement#a nice contrast to the implacable endurance of the land#anyway maps are cool#and my country...#as a political and cultural entity we may have our issues#but as a land we are unmatched#not better or worse#just unmatched#<3
