One of the last scenes we were filming Gifted in was in a pound, a kennel. I foolishly walked in and I thought, ‘Are these actor dogs or are these real, up for adoption dogs?’ And sure enough they were, so I was walking up and down the aisles and saw this one dude and he didn’t belong there. I snagged him and he’s such a good dog. They aged him at about one, he acts like a puppy, he’s got the energy of a puppy, he’s just such a sweetheart, he’s such a good boy. He loves dogs, he loves kids, he’s full of love.

summary: visiting jimmy fallon was one of chris’s favourite kinds of interviews to do, especially when he gets to brag about his wife and kids

warnings: some backstory of bad marriage but other than that none!

a/n: thank you to the anon that requested this! I did change a few things but I hope this is still okay!

Deep down Chris secretly like doing talk shows especially if he got to sat down with Jimmy Fallon, who was one of his favourite hosts, never failing to bring lots of laughs and lots of smiles to his face. Though he could have you to thank for that as you sat off to the side, your son Noah asleep against the baby bump that was steadily growing every day. Noah wasn’t biologically Chris’s having come from a different relationship, one that wasn’t safe or healthy for either of you, but he loved Noah with everything in him, and couldn’t imagine life without the two of you by his side. 

When you caught him looking you threw him a smile and a small wave, knowing they were on commercial break he mouthed a silent ‘I love you’ your way, your cheeks flushing before turning your attention back to the 3 year old who was now snoring softly. When the music picked up Chris focused his attention back onto Jimmy and they jumped into promotion for his new movie, as well as future goals and projects. 

“So, I have a question for you, well only if you want to answer it of course”

Chris nodded 

“Sure, sure” 

“Okay, now this is quite literally the cutest photo I think I’ve seen in a long time; I was wondering if we could have some backstory on this moment...”

Jimmy turned a card around and it showed Noah curled up with Dodger who had his nose resting against your stomach, the sun was peeking through the living room and there was a cartoon playing on the tv, instantly Chris smiled before clearing his throat 

“Yeah, I remember that morning because 5 minutes later it was chaos” 

Laughter filled the audience, and even you couldn’t hold back the laugh, the memories so vivid in your mind at just how crazy that day truly had been 

“This is your son Noah, right?” 

“Yep, that would be Noah, though he was two in that photo, now he’s three, so getting bigger everyday” 

Chris paused to take a sip of water and then continued 

“Noah loves Dodger, I mean they’re best buddies those two, get into all sorts of trouble, I swear they are two peas in a pod” 

“Ah so they get into just about everything then?”

Chris laughed with Jimmy 

“Oh yeah, you name anything, and they’ve probably gotten into it, but Noah loves to cuddle with him and-and just spend time lounging around the house with his mom too, so the morning I took this was just after I got back from a run and they were all bundled up on the couch, it was too sweet for words.” 

A smile spread across Jimmy’s face as he ‘awed’ gently

“You and your wife, Y/N, are expecting another baby soon too, right?” 

Chris glanced at you before looking back over 

“Yes, we are, they are due I believe it’s September 3rd or sometime around there”

“That’s very exciting, congratulations to you both!”

“Thank you, thank you, we are really excited” 

Jimmy and Chris continued to talk about a few things before they wrapped up the show, he was quick to find you and Noah instantly reaching out to take the sleeping toddler into his arms, so you didn’t have to hold him anymore.

“You did great out there, I like seeing you that happy and relaxed” 

Smiling up at him he leaned down to press his lips to yours softly before pulling back to wrap an arm around your waist, leading you out to the car waiting to take you back to your hotel. 

“I’m always happy and relaxed when you guys get to come, and of course talking about Noah and my wife who just so happens to look absolutely beautiful tonight, helps to brighten the mood” 

“Trying to butter me up Evans?”

“Hmm maybe, is it working?”

You laughed stopping to give him one more kiss 

“A little…”

Chris helped you into the car before setting Noah in his car seat and making sure he was strapped in properly before the blacked-out SUV pulled away from the curb. He would never understand how he got so lucky to be loved by you and to have his own little family, something he used to dream about but never thought he’d ever get. So, as you headed towards your hotel, no doubt to enjoy some New York take out and a cheesy romance movie, he couldn’t help but thank whoever brought you and Noah to him, and now a soon to be brother or sister to Noah. Chris had never felt luckier, and it was all thanks to you and Noah.

Your family had decided to take a trip to New York, you had been a few times before as your parents had friends there. At the time you were young and blissfully unaware of the celebrity world, it was different now, people were always running into celebrities on the streets in the US. New York is home to many, as well as a hotstpot for work in the industry. You didn’t luck out however, but your trip in the US wasn’t over just yet.

Your family had decided to take a trip up to Massachusetts, to stay in a log cabin for the weekend. Being the huge Chris Evans fan that you are you insisted they stop to look around Boston, not only because you loved visiting new places, but a small part of you hoped you’d run into the Bostonian man himself.

You stopped at a restaurant for some lunch after driving up to Boston, Not too long of a drive but enough to make you hungry, you felt a bit carsick after the journey so announced you were just popping out for some air, “Won’t be too long” you stated. you decided on a short walk to calm down the nausea you felt.

You stood there wide eyed, the hound was staring you down as you looked at him perplexed. Surely not. There’s no way Dodger Evans was standing on the pavement across from you. It looked like him, you decided to go up to him seeing as this possible Dodger lookalike seemed friendly, Dodger or not their owner must’ve been frantic about their puppy’s whereabouts. The tag read “Dodger” and your eyes shot up wide “OH MY GOD.” your inner voice spoke, you flipped the tag over and surely enough there was a phone number, Chris Evans’ phone number. You took out your phone with trembling hands.

Writing out the message, “Hello, is this Dodgers owner? I found him wondering by himself and I have a feeling he’s lost” you sent it.

“Could you send me a photo of him? possibly with you, so i know this isn’t a scam.”

An odd request, but considering his status a valid one.

you took a photo of Dodger, half your face in it, of course you wanted Chris to know he was safe. You sent it with a message reading “He looks completely fine! no sign of injury or anything, just missing his dad I think.“ you sent it not thinking and then it occurred to you “dad”, he’s going to know you know who he is.

His body relaxed. Chris had taken Dodger to the park and got too distracted in conversing with an old friend to notice Dodger had got out. As soon as he did though, his chest felt tight and breathing heavy. Who knows how long Dodger had been wondering for, or if he had been picked up. He began searching, texting Scott and his sisters, to let them know. Soon enough there was a search party for Dodger.

Chris’s phone pinged. The text read “Hello, is this Dodgers owner? I found him wondering by himself and I have a feeling he’s lost” his body instantly relaxed, until it didn’t. This could be a scam, someone has somehow found Dodger and known who he belonged to they’ve taken the number from the tag and continued on. “Could you send me a photo of him? possibly with you, so i know this isn’t a scam.” without hesitation he responded. He needed to know Dodger was okay and whoever this was had his best interest at heart. The person had responded within seconds.

A sigh of relief escaped his mouth, Dodger is okay. His rescuer was.. beautiful.

“Thank you, could you send me your location? want to reunite with my boy ASAP”

You sent your location and a message to put his mind at ease, “I’ve given him some water from my bottle, poor guy was thirsty, we’re in the shade waiting now”

That made him feel better, you obviously cared about animals, and definitely had Dodgers best interest at heart. You were only a few blocks from him so he jogged, within a few minutes he saw Dodger and you at the end of the street at a bus stop.

You tried your best to keep your cool. Yes you were a fan, but you found his dog. You saw him in the distance running down the street and anxiety struck you, you pushed it aside.

Dodger instantly recognised his dad and ran into his arms as Chris knelt down to greet him, “Hi bubba! don’t ever do that again.” your heart melted at the greeting, you know if it was your own dog back home you would be a complete mess. After a good long reunion Chris looked up at you.

“Hi, Thank you, Thank you. You wouldn’t believe how worried I was when I noticed he’d got out of the park” he spoke, out of breath, considering he had just run 5 blocks. You stood there for a second, trying to compose a calm and collected response so as to not freak him out. “Of course! I have a dog back home and would hope someone would do the same thing if he got out” He smiled at your sympathising.

I am the anon who wrote in previously about being a Negative Nancy with the new Chris-dog content.

I think this is why I had my guard up and felt this way, because it’s ‘antidote to toxicity’ messaging that I hoped wouldn’t come. I wanted to be wrong that it was coming. I didn’t even mentioned it before and instead focused solely on my reaction that maybe it’s the rose-colored glasses off.

This is just my opinion and feel free to disagree but Chris’ moves feel so calculated now. I’m not naive or ignorant that Hollywood is to sell, but I admittedly thought of Chris as more genuine. It’s one of the reasons I liked him, that he was a lovable dorky guy in a frat boy’s body. I read Lainey’s words and thought my gosh, how literally does she need to be?! ‘Chris knows his fans are toxic so here’s his answer - cute puppies!’ Ok I could be wrong but here she is noting that!

Why does it always get connected to her?

Let me be clear that there has been overstepping in this fandom in terms of toxicity, but I’m so sick and tired of everything being connected to her.

My words aren’t directed at you Nancy Drew, I’m just venting. I saw it cause Lainey Gossip is a blog I’ve been reading back for years now. I don’t visit as I used to, but still like to read it from time to time.

Wow, I'm surprised Lainey wrote about him at all. She hates him with a passion, for years now, ever since she saw him taking extra thongs at a gifting suite in Vegas. You should read anything she writes about him, if she directly writes about him, as dripping in sarcasm. (Which this is.)

But, yeah, there needed to be some kind of course correction before NYCC happens next month, just like they did before C2E2 this year. I see this as a retread of something they've already tried, and not that long ago.

Ranking all (ish) the dogs from Disney according to a very scientific process averaging scores on Design (how much I like the character design) Breed Alignment (how much they look like the breed they’re going for.. or just how much like a dog), Personality (how I much I like them as a character) and if applicable , voice acting (how much I like the vocal performance. [Disney Animation theatrical releases only-- no Pixar, no straight to home video, no partially live action] Link to part 1 What you’ve been waiting for! Or what you skipped to. The top dogs! 

25. Pluto THE Disney dog! Unfairly discriminated against by his peers of core disney cast! 

24. Boris the borzoi- Lady and the Tramp He’s a borzoi! Where else are you gonna find an animated borzoi?! 

23. Colonel- One Hundred and One Dalmatians  Did you know in the sequel book Sgt Tibbs (or his book equivalent cat) is declared an “honorary dog” by Sirius the Dog Star? So you can count him as tied for this place

22. Peg- The Lady and the Tramp A design with SO MUCH personality. 

21. Little Brother- Mulan He’s just so DIFFERENT looking from all these other dogs. I suspect that--like the horses in this movie-- he’s based off a particular art style and that’s why he doesn’t quite fit with anything else even within his own movie. 

20. Perdita- One Hundred and One Dalmatians  I was going to give you her Disney Wiki picture and say something about she’s the closest thing Disney has to a 50s housewife, but instead have this super ominous Perdita statue to rule over you. Bow to your Supreme Leader Perdita, for she is housewife no longer!

19. Toby- The Great Mouse Detective The quintessential Good Boy

18. Francis- Oliver and Company He’s Shakespearean and we love that. 

17. Napoleon and Lafayette- The Aristocats  I ranked them separately. Scored them differently in various categories. And they came out to exactly the same score. Inseparable. A dynamic duo. Batman and Robin who? These are the real crimefighters. 

16.  Goofy Is Goofy identifiable as a dog if you aren’t told that he is one? I don’t know about that. But he’s GOOFY. 

15. Pongo- One Hundred and One Dalmatians Okay I promise this is the last 101 Dalmatians character. 

14. Max- The Little Mermaid He’s what we call the breeder’s standard. 

13. Chief- The Fox and the Hound Am I trying to convince you to overlook certain aspects of Chief by choosing this particular picture? Who can say. 

12. Roscoe and DeSoto- Oliver and Company I love a good villain. And Dobermans. 

11. Tito-Oliver and Company Played and drawn with every bit of manic energy that a chihuahua needs

11. (Tie) Georgette- Oliver and Company “Perfect Isn’t Easy” was doing “Fabulous” long before Sharpay Evans.

9. Bolt- Bolt His biggest flaw is that John Travolta was NOT a good casting choice. Other than that he’s adorable. 

8. Nana- Peter Pan This movie may be problematic but Nana certainly isn’t. 

7. Rita- Oliver and Company This dog is wearing eye shadow. And also “Streets of Gold” is criminally underrated. 

6. Lady- Lady and the Tramp I don’t really have much to say. She’s cute. It’s a good design. She’s a good character. 

5. Trusty- Lady and the Tramp Look at that action shot. His hero moment. 

4. Tramp- Lady and the Tramp I originally had Tramp 7th and Rita 4th... did I make a mistake switching them? Tramp doesn’t sing. Tramp isn’t wearing eye shadow. But Rita doesn’t have a song about her either...

3. Stitch- Lilo and Stitch He used to be a collie before he got ran over

2. Copper- The Fox and the Hound “When you’re the best of friends *muffled sobbing* having so much fun together *louder sobbing*” 

1. Dodger- Oliver and Company He sings the best Disney song. He’s voiced by Billy Joel. He’s got a celebrity endorsement: Chris Evans named his dog after Dodger. Easily the best Disney dog. 

“But Cogentranting” you say, “ you put two dogs each for number 11 and number 17, that means there are fifty-TWO dogs on this list. The title’s a lie” and I say WRONG SIr. Clearly number 3 and number 46 (Stitch and Obby) are NOT dogs at all. So there are Fifty! And you say, “okay but there are multiple dogs for both 50 and 49.” I have no answer for this. I hang my head and shame and bid you adieu.

I remember Chris tweting something about Dodger's videos never getting old and then another famous person (can't remember who) answered that yes, it got old. I laughed so hard at that. Chris was leaning HARD on Dodger that time. I hope he gets all the treats. That boy is the best and cutest Evans, followed by Scott.
