We are just a few days away from the national elections, and before you ask me what the elections have to do with a Budweiser event, I will explain…
In 1994 on the 27th of April, the first ever national democratic elections took place, and 25 years later, on that very same day, Budweiser put on an amazing cultural clash… a cultural collaboration like no other.
On the 27th of April 2019, Budweiser delivered on a promise to give us an epic evening with their cultural collaboration featuring local designers and the best of South African House/Dance music.
The first thing that stood out was the location and venue. If you know Johannesburg, you know that Braamfontein is more than just a “student town” as many would call it, but it is one of Johannesburg’s most liveliest areas. We then look at the venue, being Shine Studio; definitely something I did not expect, especially with the Budweiser setup as we entered the venue with red lighting standing out in the dark.
The presentation of fashion without making it an all out fashion showcase, but a showcase of talent has to be one of the best elements of this cultural collaboration because we have seen how stiff fashion shows can get. We realized after a few models walked past us that there is an actual showcase happening, and the addition of having these deliver well choreographed dance routines definitely proved that Budweiser stuck to their word of giving us something we have not seen before.

We cannot finish talking about an epic party without introducing the artists/DJs. A great range of DJs kept us entertained and dancing.
Lamiez_Holworthy opened with a great set, which I have to admit that when we arrived I wasn’t really feeling it, and figured that it was because the crowed was still coming in, so everyone was still finding their element, and towards the end, she was delivering massive heat on those decks.
That opening set led us into a totally crazy time as we felt the wrath of Da Capo as he turned Shine Studio inside out, and we had to have the experience of GoodLuck, and not to sound like a groupie, but I was fast becoming a groupie when it came to GoodLuck.
I can easily say that when it comes to Black Coffee, we can never get enough of this living legend. The room was buzzing at the mention of Black Coffee coming on stage, and I could see the people positioning themselves properly even during the setup, and I could feel tense anticipation as people were waiting. His entry on to the stage drew one of the most passionate noises I have ever heard at an event.
Overall, what I can say is that Budweiser promised us an experience of a lifetime and they delivered an experience of a lifetime, and they are definitely winning over the South African market greatly, and soon Budweiser will be one of the best selling beers in the country, not only for the great crisp taste, but for the understanding the youth culture they displaying so early in their entry of the South African market.
  PRESS RELEASE FROM BUDWEISER
Braamfontein streets were buzzing this past Freedom Day as music and Budweiser lovers converged at Shine Studios to experience the brand’s first BUDX music and fashion experience. The usually industrial Shine Studio was turned into an icon night club meets fashion space which showcased some of the best talent Mzansi has to offer. Headlined by international DJ – Black Coffee, supported by Shimza, Distruction Boys, Goodluck and Lamiez Holworthy. The event really lived up to expectations and set the pace for the highly anticipated BudX collaboration platform.
The star studded line up was also supported with a surprise which saw fashion houses – Ri.ch Factory, Otiz Seflo and Ntando_XV create cool street wear capsule collections which were given away to consumers on the night.

“As designers we are often looking for opportunities to showcase our brands, and the BudXRi.chFactory collection was the perfect platform to showcase our latest street wear collection. We really were excited to receive such amazing reception and feedback from the guests, as it showcased that we are on the right track,” said founder and designer of Ri.ch Factory, Rina Chunga.
Over the next few months Budweiser will roll out a series of cultural collaborations aimed at giving young South African creatives the platforms to showcase their talent, and the opportunity to meet with industry greats who can also help them take their talent to the next level.
Spotted amongst guests were radio duo Mantsoe Pout & Zweli Mbele, actress Khanya Mkangisa, television presenter Tshego Koke and fashion blogger Ricci-Lee Kalish. Also in attendance were also some noticeable faces from the fashion, music and creatives arts industries including fashion designer Sylvester Falata and DJ Sabby.
If BudX aimed to provide a space for Mzansi’s growing music scene to engage with each other in a relaxed setting, free-flowing Buds and an awesome party – it did just that!
