Most Common Land Rover Discovery 3 and Discovery 4 Engine Problems
In this blog we will discuss and prevent the major malfunctions of Land Rover discovery 3 and Discovery 4 diesel engines. More specific Land Rover discovery 3 and 4 2.7 TD engines and 3.0 TD engines. Sometimes organisations leave serious issues in the engine that was installed in the manufacturing phase (e.g cranking and crankshaft liner is a usual problem), then it shows in future and owners are unable to rectify the problem in any way. They have no choice but just continue to operate the vehicle according to the manufacturer guideline. But the user complains about the repetitive errors in service of Land Rover Discovery 3 and Discovery 4 which can be predicted and so avoid expensive service of diesel 2.7 TD and 3.0 TD. Furthermore, the technical service of JLR has been designed for so-called technical bulletins about several problems. Engineers called technical improvements and suggestions for cure of issues and for better repair. Most common and frequent tackle malfunction of 2.7 TD diesel engines and 3.0 TD diesel engines. That creates a serious issue which is oil leakage from the crankshaft in the oil seal. This issue unexpectedly happened with the onset of frost. So they use a common term: an oil seal tightly squeezes out from the seat and oil flows. Usually the owner sees the leakage of oil and they put it in again but the oil drains all the same and the car comes into the garage for service with knocking noise. First of all, when this problem was not studied, when leakage of oil was detected then it was simply changed. But after the change of oil seal it immediately shows the oil leak. This issue occurs in land rover 2.7 TD and 3.0 TD engines due to incorrect seating of oil pump housing. So they again start the same issue in the oil pump itself, in circulation of old oil pumps, which is an issue made by technical guys and generally called improvement required. But in this case it's not necessary to change the front oil seal but you need to change the oil pump with a new sample and change with a new oil seal. Along with this issue it is the cause of oil squeezing out from the seal which also includes the crankshaft front oil seal and may be possible to freeze the crankcase ventilation. This goes to freeze due to one metal tube going from this area, which is the main ventilation tube of crankcase vapours. This freeze issue leads to the low temperature due to freezing of the tube. Due to this issue, pressure of oil vapour increases in the engine which leads to oil leakage. This issue was examined by a lot of Land Rover engines, but called it technical improvement which occurred due to the electric heater for the crankcase ventilation system. This error wants a wide range of engine parts to be replaced with new one. These changes only apply in 2.7 TD land rover discovery 3 and discovery 4. Usually , several customers have faced this problem, but the question is why mechanics do not suggest these improvements before the problem occurs. The fact is these issues do not happen in every vehicle and not so immediately. If you offer to everyone then the client considers it as a kind of divorce. Mostly, the Land Rover technical team suggests something only upon the issue of oil leakage. Not everyone suggests it, which simply means no suggestion is suggested to everyone without any reason. But land rovers as a company explain to everyone about the actual situation they face in future. And clients must know what to do and what not. So what's the important thing owners need to remember? If your land rover discovery 3 and discovery 4 2.7 TD engine had an oil leak through the crankshaft front oil seal then its necessary to change the oil seal and oil pump otherwise this issue will again show in it.
