Life in a Motorhome in New Zealand: Living the Dream on Wheels
New Zealand. The land of breathtaking landscapes, winding roads, and endless adventures. And what better way to experience it all than by living in a motorhome?
The Ultimate Freedom One of the most incredible parts of motorhome life in NZ is the sense of absolute freedom. You’re not tied to one place. You can wake up to the sound of waves crashing along the coast one day and then park up next to a misty mountain range the next. With no set route, no agenda, every day feels like a blank canvas waiting to be filled with adventure.
Waking Up to Epic Views Imagine opening your door to views of emerald green hills, tranquil lakes, and jagged peaks covered in snow. You’ll find motorhome spots with landscapes that feel like they were pulled straight from a fantasy novel. And the sunrises and sunsets? Pure magic. Golden skies reflecting off crystal-clear waters, the world feels so expansive when your home has four wheels and a wide-open view.
Finding Those Hidden Gems What I love about motorhome life here is discovering hidden gems you’d probably never come across if you weren’t mobile. From remote hot springs tucked away in the forests to quiet beaches only accessible by dirt roads – New Zealand is full of surprises if you're willing to wander.
The Cozy Simplicity of Life on the Road Living in a motorhome simplifies everything. You learn to live with less – less stuff, less stress, and more time to appreciate the little things. A good cup of coffee with a view, reading a book by a river, or just watching the stars in the darkest skies you’ve ever seen. There's something comforting about having everything you need in one small space, all while being surrounded by the vastness of nature.
Challenges? Yep, But They’re Part of the Fun Not gonna lie, there are some tricky bits to this lifestyle. Finding the perfect campsite can take some trial and error, and you’ll quickly learn the importance of keeping up with the motorhome’s maintenance (especially when driving those winding mountain roads!). Oh, and don’t get me started on finding good WiFi in remote areas. But these little challenges make the journey more rewarding – like leveling up in your very own road adventure game.
A Tight-Knit Community The van and motorhome community in NZ is something special. Everyone has their own story, their own journey, but there’s a shared understanding. Whether it's a nod from a fellow traveler on the road, swapping stories over a campfire, or helping each other out with tips on the best free campsites, it feels like you’re part of something bigger.
Kiwis Are Some of the Kindest People Kiwis (the people, not the bird!) are so welcoming. Whether it’s locals pointing you to a secret spot that only the residents know about or the genuine friendliness you encounter at every stop, New Zealanders make you feel like you belong.
Why New Zealand? Out of all the places you could explore in a motorhome, New Zealand is something special. It's small enough that you can see so much in just a few weeks, but diverse enough that you could spend years here and still discover new places. Rainforests, fjords, glaciers, beaches, rolling vineyards – all within a few hours' drive. It’s honestly a road tripper's paradise.
So, What's Next? For now, I’ll just keep chasing those endless roads and postcard-worthy views. If you’ve ever thought about experiencing New Zealand from a motorhome, I can’t recommend it enough. It’s a way of life that connects you deeply with the land, the people, and your sense of adventure.
Who else is living the van life in NZ? Or who’s dreaming of hitting the open road here? Let’s swap stories!

Rent a camper in New Zealand cheaply
Large Motorhome

Maybe it will help in the future to just talk to each other and not "complain" afterwards. In any case, we always drove well with the price-performance ratio and the general conditions of the rental and will book again with WK in 2017. You get a flat rate if you come to pick up the camper from the airport. Another advantage was that we were able to pick up the camper in Christchurch and did not have to pay a return lump sum for the delivery in Auckland. That can cost $ 500 from other providers. After these experiences, you can go kayaking through the caves of the Cathedral Coves on the Coromandel Peninsula or visit filming locations for the “Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” films. Hikes may be more suitable for less adventurous people. In the immediate vicinity of Queenstown you can enjoy unique views of the Alps, the city and Lake Wakatipu. You should not miss a hike to the summit of Ben Lomond in particular. When you spend your evening there, you can see a breathtaking sunset. Cultural highlights, a vibrant nightlife and a wonderful nature in the immediate vicinity. Anyone exploring New Zealand with a motorhome can hardly miss a visit to the metropolis Auckland. But the New Zealand capital Wellington also scores with its irresistible charm. Please select your age so that we can show you offers including all mandatory fees. Just under five percent of New Zealand's creatures are humans - the rest are animals. The country is known for having no poisonous or dangerous animals.

Additional services and extras can be added directly in the second step of the booking.
But only a small equipment is available.

If you rent a camper to visit New Zealand, you should both take a tour of the North Island as well as planning over the South Island.
In addition to numerous branches around all the major airports in the country, Jucy NZ combines a large selection of offers with useful tips and tricks that many holidaymakers will find helpful.
The delightful contrast between rocky mountains of volcanic origin, rippling waterfalls and wonderful beaches is what makes New Zealand's two main islands so attractive. In the north, the often snow-covered Mount Taranaki in Egmont National Park is a popular destination for hikers. Make a detour to Tongariro National Park and take a spectacular hike over the volcanic peaks.

By converting the seating area you get a comfortable double bed. All vehicles are equipped with gas cookers, refrigerators and sinks (sometimes only cold water). Select a motorhome, book online with a discount and rent your motorhome at affordable prices. With great attention to your satisfaction, Spaceships NZ is an absolutely safe choice if you want an experienced team on your side. The newer and more expensive the vehicle and the better the equipment, the more you have to pay for the rental. If you want a vehicle with great equipment, such as your own bathroom and kitchen, then of course you have to pay more. It often makes sense to rent a camper that is rather simply equipped and to spend more money on campsites that are equipped with showers and electricity. For this you pay between 30 and 45 NZD per night. Accordingly, you sit on the right side as a driver in New Zealand vehicles. Nevertheless, "Right before Left" applies at intersections without a right of way sign. If you stay on the island for up to twelve months, you can drive with your German driving license - for longer stays a New Zealand driving license is required. Campervan camping park You start your tour by camper through New Zealand in Nelson on the northern tip of the South Island. Here you should definitely pay a visit to the World of Wearable Art and Classic Cars Museum - sleek vehicles from the 20th
