Digable Planets is an American hip hop trio formed in 1987, composed of Ishmael "Butterfly" Butler, Mariana "Ladybug Mecca" Vieira, and Craig "Doodlebug" Irving. They are known for their jazz rap and alternative hip hop style.
The group was founded when Butler and Irving met in Philadelphia, with Vieira joining later. Their debut album, Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space) (1993), featured the hit single "Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)," which peaked at #15 on the Billboard charts and won a Grammy. Their follow-up album, Blowout Comb (1994), was more political and less commercial but praised by critics.
Digable Planets disbanded in 1995 but reunited in 2005 for a tour and a compilation album. They toured again from 2009 to 2011 and reunited for performances in 2015 and 2016, releasing the live album Digable Planets Live in 2017.
