365 Marvel Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…
February 19th - Silhouette
In the midst of the Siancong Civil War, an American recon patrol was dispatched to traverse through Cambodia toward the Siancong boarder. This special recon patrolled, called the Half-Fulls, ended up stumbling upon an ancient temple of a cult known as the Dragon's Breath which had remained hidden for centuries. The temple had been built upon a wellspring of raw, primal energy called the ‘Well of All Things.’ The inhabitants, aided by prophecy, decided to breed a superior race that would one day unite with the ways of the West and conquer the world. They believed that this union would produce children capable of harnessing the power of the Well. The men of the Half-Fulls were asked to father these mystical children in exchange for untold riches and power All but one agreed Andrew Chord chose to accept the cults offer. He ended up fathering two children, a son named Midnight’s Fire and a daughter he named Silhouette
Exposure to the well appeared to facilitate Silhouette's being born with the X-Gene, bestowing her mutant powers. For Silhouette, she discovered she has the ability to manipulate Darkforce energies. This enables her to cast and control shadows as well as render herself invisible in low light environments. To compliment these abilities, Silhouette trained to become a highly accomplished acrobat and hand-to-hand combatant.
Silhouette and her brother, Midnight's Fire, were hidden from their father and sinister Grandmother Tai when their mother Miyami faked their death as children. Silhouette and Midnight's Fire were operating as independent vigilantes in the streets of New York City, when they met Dwayne Taylor before he had become Night Thrasher, and the three began an organized effort to take down various New York City street gangs.
This partnership ended when Silhouette was shot and paralyzed from the legs down in a sting gone bad. Midnight’s Fire blamed Dwayne for his sister’s injury. He went on to become a cop killer and drug lord in order to lure Dwayne into a physical confrontation he could not possibly win. Later the partially paralyzed Silhouette reunited with Dwayne, distancing herself from her brother's evil actions.
Despite her injury, Silhouette was intent on remaining an active vigilante. She fashioned a specialized pair of crutches that both aided her movement and could also be used as escrima sticks.
Silhouette joined the New Warriors in a joint effort to bring down Diego Casseas’ effort to utilize the Well of All Things to take over the world. She remained with the team for some time thereafter, leaving shortly after her teammates, Night Thrasher and Rage, were voted out of The New Warriors.
More recently, Silhouette aided the newer iteration of The New Warriors in a battle against an Inhuman villain who also possessed Darkforce manipulation powers. Silhouette first appeared in the pages of New Warriors #2 (1990).
