The Ultimate Guide to Choosing Unique Engagement Rings for Women
Tumblr media
Choosing an engagement ring is one of the most significant decisions you’ll make in your journey towards marriage. A ring is more than just a piece of jewellery—it’s a symbol of love, commitment, and a unique connection between two people. While traditional choices like diamond engagement rings are timeless, today’s couples are often looking for something distinctive to reflect their personalities and tastes. If you’re on the hunt for the perfect ring, especially from the renowned Hatton Garden jewellers online, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know.
Understanding the Significance of Diamond Engagement Rings
Diamond engagement rings have long been the epitome of elegance and sophistication. Their enduring appeal lies in their brilliance, durability, and symbolism of eternal love. When shopping for a unique ring, you may want to start by understanding the different diamond cuts, carat weights, and settings. Round-cut diamonds remain the most popular, but fancy shapes like oval, pear, or emerald cuts offer a distinctive twist for those looking to stand out.
For those interested in exploring designs, Hatton Garden jewellers online is an excellent resource. Known as the hub of fine jewellery in the UK, Hatton Garden boasts some of the best jewellers in Hatton Garden, who specialise in crafting bespoke rings tailored to your preferences. Shopping online with these jewellers ensures a seamless experience, with the same level of craftsmanship and attention to detail as you’d find in-store.
Why Choose Hatton Garden Jewellers Online
When searching for unique engagement rings, the reputation of the jeweller matters just as much as the design. Hatton Garden jewellers online offer a wide range of options that cater to both modern and traditional tastes. One of the biggest advantages of exploring their online collections is the ability to compare designs and customise your preferences from the comfort of your home.
Known for their exceptional artistry, the best jewellers in Hatton Garden combine centuries-old traditions with contemporary techniques to create rings that truly stand out. Whether you’re looking for vintage-inspired designs or cutting-edge modern pieces, their expertise ensures that your engagement ring will be one-of-a-kind.
The Importance of Customisation
Customisation is key to finding an engagement ring that feels unique and personal. Many Hatton Garden jewellers online specialise in bespoke designs, allowing you to create a piece that reflects your partner’s personality and style. From selecting the perfect diamond to choosing a setting that complements it, every detail can be tailored to your liking.
For those who want to break away from the traditional, consider adding coloured gemstones like sapphires, emeralds, or rubies to the design. These stones can add a vibrant touch while maintaining the elegance associated with diamond engagement rings. Working with the best jewellers in Hatton Garden ensures that your vision comes to life with precision and artistry.
Tips for Selecting the Perfect Diamond Engagement Ring
When shopping for diamond engagement rings, there are several factors to keep in mind. First and foremost is the “Four Cs”—cut, clarity, carat weight, and colour. These elements determine the quality and overall appearance of the diamond.
The cut is arguably the most important factor, as it affects how the diamond reflects light. A well-cut diamond will sparkle brilliantly, making it a showstopper in any setting. Clarity and colour are also important considerations, especially if you want a flawless or near-colourless stone. Carat weight, on the other hand, will largely depend on your budget and the style of ring you’re envisioning.
For a comprehensive selection of diamonds, visiting a trusted jewellery store in the UK can help you find the perfect balance between these factors. Whether shopping in person or exploring Hatton Garden jewellers online, ensure that the diamond comes with a certified grading report for authenticity.

How to Find the Perfect Diamond Engagement Ring for Your Big Moment
Tumblr media
Choosing the perfect diamond engagement ring is one of the most important decisions you will make when planning your big moment. It symbolises your love and commitment, and it’s a timeless piece that your partner will cherish forever. In this guide, we’ll explore everything you need to know to make an informed decision. Whether you're considering a local jewellery store, exploring Hatton Garden diamonds, or browsing an online diamond ring store, this article will provide the insights you need.
Understanding the Basics of Diamond Engagement Rings
The journey to finding the perfect engagement ring begins with understanding its core components. The diamond is, of course, the centrepiece of most engagement rings, and its quality is determined by the Four Cs: cut, colour, clarity, and carat weight. When exploring Hatton Garden diamonds, you’ll discover a range of exquisite options that excel in these qualities.
Equally important is the band, which can be crafted from materials like platinum, gold, or white gold. The choice of metal will influence the ring's overall appearance and durability. If you’re shopping at an online diamond ring store, ensure that the descriptions provide clear details about these materials.
Choosing the Right Diamond Shape
The shape of the diamond significantly impacts the ring's overall design and how it reflects light. Common shapes include round, princess, oval, and emerald cuts. Each shape has its unique appeal, with round diamonds being a classic choice for their unmatched brilliance. In Hatton Garden diamonds collections, you'll find a diverse selection of diamond shapes that cater to every style.
When purchasing from an online diamond ring store, high-resolution images and detailed descriptions will help you visualise how the diamond shape suits your partner’s preferences. For a touch of sophistication, consider a Regal cut, which embodies elegance and timeless beauty.
Exploring Jewellery Stores and Online Options
Shopping for an engagement ring can be done in two primary ways: visiting a jewellery store or browsing an online diamond ring store. Both options have their advantages, depending on your priorities and schedule.
In-person visits to a jewellery store, such as those in the iconic Hatton Garden diamonds district, allow you to inspect the ring closely and receive expert guidance from seasoned jewellers. You can see the sparkle, assess the craftsmanship, and even try on various styles to find the perfect match.
On the other hand, an online diamond ring store provides convenience, variety, and often competitive pricing. Many online platforms offer advanced tools for customising rings, letting you choose the diamond, setting, and band to create a truly unique piece. Ensure that the store has strong reviews, certifications, and return policies for a secure purchase.
The Allure of Hatton Garden Diamonds
For those seeking the pinnacle of quality and craftsmanship, Hatton Garden diamonds are an iconic choice. Renowned as London's jewellery quarter, Hatton Garden is home to a wealth of expertise and history. The diamonds sourced from this district are often certified and meet the highest standards of quality.
Visiting Hatton Garden offers the opportunity to explore numerous jewellery stores, each showcasing stunning Regal designs that exude sophistication. Whether you’re seeking a classic solitaire or a vintage-inspired piece, the options are endless. Jewellers in this area pride themselves on their attention to detail and the ability to create bespoke designs tailored to your love story.
Benefits of Regal Designs
A Regal engagement ring is the epitome of elegance and grandeur. This style often features intricate detailing, such as pavé diamonds, halo settings, or unique band designs. The Regal look is ideal for those who want to make a bold statement, blending timeless beauty with contemporary flair.
When shopping at a jewellery store or an online diamond ring store, consider the impact of a Regal design. It can elevate even the simplest diamond to an extraordinary level of sophistication. Many Hatton Garden diamonds collections include Regal styles, offering a wide selection for those with refined tastes.
Setting Your Budget
Establishing a budget is a critical step in the ring-buying process. While there’s no set rule for how much you should spend, it’s essential to balance quality with affordability. Shopping in Hatton Garden diamonds boutiques or at an online diamond ring store allows you to compare options and make an informed choice.
Many jewellery stores also offer financing plans, helping you spread the cost of your investment over time. Be transparent with the jeweller about your budget, and they can guide you towards the best options without compromising on quality or style.
Customising Your Ring
Customisation adds a personal touch to your engagement ring, making it a one-of-a-kind piece. Whether you’re working with a jewellery store or an online diamond ring store, consider options like engraving, selecting a unique setting, or incorporating coloured gemstones alongside the diamond.
Jewellers specialising in Hatton Garden diamonds often excel in bespoke designs, creating masterpieces that reflect your relationship’s unique journey. Customisation ensures that the ring is as unique and special as your partner, adding even more significance to the proposal.

Ensuring Certification and Quality
A diamond engagement ring is a significant investment, and verifying its quality is essential. Always request a certificate from reputable grading authorities, such as the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) or the International Gemological Institute (IGI). Whether shopping in a jewellery store, a Hatton Garden diamonds boutique, or an online diamond ring store, certification guarantees the diamond’s authenticity and value.
Additionally, inquire about warranties and aftercare services. Some jewellery stores and online retailers offer lifetime cleaning or resizing, ensuring that your ring remains in pristine condition for years to come.
FAQs
1. How do I choose between an online diamond ring store and a physical jewellery store?
The choice depends on your priorities. An online diamond ring store offers convenience, a wide range of designs, and competitive prices, while a physical jewellery store provides hands-on experience and expert advice. For the best of both worlds, visit a store like those in Hatton Garden diamonds, which often combine in-person consultations with online shopping options.
2. Are Hatton Garden diamonds more expensive?
Hatton Garden diamonds are not necessarily more expensive, but they are synonymous with exceptional quality. The area is known for its craftsmanship and high standards, making it an excellent choice for those seeking premium designs.
3. What makes a design regal?
A Regal design typically features intricate detailing, a majestic appearance, and elements like pavé or halo settings. It’s an ideal style for those looking to make a bold and elegant statement.
4. Can I customise a ring from an online diamond ring store?
Yes, many online diamond ring stores offer customisation options, such as selecting the diamond, setting, or adding engravings. Ensure the store provides clear guidelines and certifications for custom orders.
5. How do I ensure I’m getting a good deal?
Research and compare prices across jewellery stores, online diamond ring stores, and Hatton Garden diamonds boutiques. Always verify certifications and look for reviews to ensure you’re purchasing from a reputable seller.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
Finding the perfect diamond engagement ring is a journey filled with excitement and emotion. Whether you choose to visit a traditional jewellery store, explore Hatton Garden diamonds, or browse an online diamond ring store, taking the time to understand your options will ensure you make the best decision. luxury and lace // leah williamson
Tumblr media
leah williamson x spoilt reader
a/n : i know quite a bit of this is inaccurate, but i am currently skint and dreaming of a luxury shopping spree
warnings : suggestive, and that’s really all!!
It wasn’t uncommon for her to surprise you with spontaneous shopping trips, but this particular Saturday was different. Leah had sensed you’d had a tough week and decided that today would be all about pampering you. So, she insisted on taking you to Bond Street, one of the most upscale shopping destinations in London.
The day began with Leah picking you up early, a playful grin on her face as she drove the two of you into the city. You knew that look—it meant you were in for a day of indulgence, whether you liked it or not. But of course, you did like it. You loved how attentive Leah was, how much she enjoyed making you feel special.
As soon as you arrived, Leah wasted no time. The first stop was Gucci. The store was quiet, its plush interiors and soft lighting creating an atmosphere of luxury. Leah immediately began browsing through the racks, her eyes sharp as she sought out pieces she knew would look perfect on you.
“This one,” she said, pulling out a sleek black dress with a plunging neckline, the fabric shimmering subtly under the store lights. “You’re tryin’ this on, love.”
You took the dress from her, smirking. “Are you sure you can handle it if I wear something this daring?”
Leah’s eyes sparkled with mischief. “Handle it? Babe, the real question is, can you handle the way I’ll be lookin’ at you all night?”
Heat rushed to your cheeks at her words, and without another word, you headed to the changing room. The dress fit like a dream, clinging to your body in all the right places. When you stepped out to show Leah, her reaction was immediate—her gaze darkened, and her lips parted slightly as she took you in.
“Proper stunnin’,” she murmured, stepping closer to adjust the straps on your shoulders, her fingers brushing your skin in a way that sent shivers down your spine. “This is non-negotiable. We’re buyin’ it.”
“Leah, it’s so expensive,” you protested weakly, knowing full well that Leah wouldn’t back down once she made up her mind.
“Price don’t matter when it comes to you,” she replied smoothly, her eyes meeting yours in the mirror with an intensity that made your heart skip a beat.
Before you could argue further, Leah had already signaled to the sales associate, handing over her card with a practiced ease that made you smile. As you changed back into your clothes, you couldn’t help but feel a warm glow of affection for her. Leah was always like this—determined to make you feel like the most important person in the world.
Next, you made your way to Louis Vuitton. The store was a haven of luxury, with its iconic monogram prints displayed proudly on every shelf. Leah’s eyes were already scanning the collection of bags as you walked in.
“How about this one?” she asked, holding up a chic crossbody.
You bit your lip, admiring the bag. “It’s beautiful, but do I really need another one?”
Leah’s lips curled into a knowing smile. “Need? Maybe not. But deserve? Babe, you deserve the world.”
You laughed, shaking your head at her logic, but there was no denying how perfect the bag was. Leah could read you like a book, and she knew exactly what would make your heart flutter. She insisted on purchasing the bag, adding it to the growing collection of items she was spoiling you with that day.
From Louis Vuitton, you wandered into Cartier. Leah’s eyes immediately gravitated toward a delicate bracelet in gold, adorned with small diamonds that caught the light beautifully.
“This would look gorgeous on you,” she said, already envisioning it on your wrist.
You raised an eyebrow, giving her a teasing smile. “Leah, are you trying to claim me with jewelry now?”
Leah chuckled, wrapping her arms around your waist from behind and pulling you close. “Maybe I am. Should get my name engraved in it. Gotta make sure everyone knows you’re mine, yeah?”
You turned your head slightly to meet her gaze, feeling the warmth of her breath on your neck. “Not bad at all.”
The bracelet was yours before you could even protest, Leah slipping it onto your wrist herself, her fingers grazing your skin in a way that made you tingle all over. She kissed the inside of your wrist after fastening the clasp, a gesture so sweet and intimate it made your heart swell with love.
The next stop was Chanel, where Leah couldn’t resist picking out a pair of back heals.
“These are a must,” she declared. “They’ll go perfectly with that dress we just bought.”
You tried on the heals, feeling a rush of confidence as they elevated your outfit—and your height—by several inches. Leah’s approval was immediate, her gaze sweeping over you with a mix of admiration and desire.
“You really have it all planned out, don’t you?” you teased as you walked around in the pumps, testing their comfort.
Leah grinned, her eyes following your every movement. “When it comes to you, always, babe. Gotta make sure my girl’s the best-dressed wherever she goes.”
From Chanel, the two of you made your way to Sephora. Leah knew how much you loved trying out new makeup and skincare products, so she insisted you pick out anything you wanted. You spent a good hour browsing through the aisles, swatching lipsticks, testing perfumes, and sampling the latest skincare lines.
“Do you think this color suits me?” you asked, holding up a shade of lipstick.
Leah nodded, moving closer to inspect it on you. “It’s perfect. But you should get a few others too, just in case you wanna switch it up.”
You chuckled, knowing that Leah wouldn’t let you leave without at least a few bags of makeup and skincare products. She insisted on getting you a new fragrance she thought you’d love and a high-end eyeshadow palette that had caught your eye.
With several Sephora bags in hand, Leah led you to Victoria’s Secret. As soon as you walked in, Leah’s eyes lit up with that familiar glint of mischief, and you knew you were in for some fun.
The store was filled with soft, sensual lighting and racks of lingerie in every shade and style imaginable. Leah wasted no time, immediately gravitating towards a section filled with delicate lace sets. Her fingers trailed over the fabrics, picking out pieces she knew you’d love—or, rather, pieces she knew she’d love seeing you in.
“Here we go,” she said, pulling out a deep red set with intricate lace detailing that left little to the imagination. “This one’s got your name written all over it.”
You couldn’t help but laugh at her enthusiasm. “Are you sure you’re picking this out for me and not for yourself?”
Leah’s grin was nothing short of wicked. “Bit of both, maybe. But mostly for me, yeah?”
Your cheeks warmed at the way she looked at you, her eyes dark with intent. She handed you the set and gently nudged you towards the fitting rooms.
“Go on, try it on. I wanna see how it looks.”
You raised an eyebrow, a teasing smile tugging at your lips. “You know, I might need some help getting into this one.”
Leah didn’t miss a beat. “Is that an invitation?”
“Maybe,” you replied coyly, biting your lip as you led the way to the fitting rooms, Leah following close behind.
Once inside, the door barely closed behind you before Leah’s hands were on your hips, turning you to face her. She looked down at you with that same mischievous glint in her eyes, her fingers already toying with the hem of your shirt.
“Alright then, let’s see what we’ve got here,” she murmured, her voice low and teasing.
You giggled, feeling the heat rise in your cheeks as Leah helped you out of your clothes, her touch slow and deliberate. She was taking her time, savoring every moment, and you could feel the intensity of her gaze as she watched your every reaction.
Finally, you were standing there in nothing but the lacy red set Leah had picked out, and the way she looked at you made you feel like the most beautiful woman in the world. Leah stepped back for a moment, taking in the sight before her, and you could see the raw desire in her eyes.
“Turn around,” she instructed, her voice huskier than before.
You did as she asked, feeling Leah’s eyes on you as you slowly spun around. When you faced her again, she had already closed the distance between you, her hands reaching out to gently touch the lace along your hips.
“Jesus, you’re somethin’ else,” she murmured, her breath hot against your skin as she leaned in closer. “I’m never letting you take this off.”
Your heart raced at the intensity in her voice, and you couldn’t resist teasing her. “You’ll have to, eventually.”
Leah smirked, her hands sliding up your sides, her touch setting your skin on fire. “We’ll see about that.”
She leaned in, her lips brushing against your ear as she whispered, “I’m buying this, and a few more. I’ve got plans for you, babe.”
You shivered at her words, feeling a thrill rush through you. “You’re spoiling me, you know that?”
Leah chuckled, pulling back just enough to look into your eyes. “And I’ll keep spoilin’ you every chance I get.”
With a final kiss to your shoulder, she reluctantly stepped back, letting you change out of the lingerie. You could see the reluctance in her eyes as you put your clothes back on, but there was also a promise there—a promise that tonight, when you were back home, she’d pick up right where she left off.
When you emerged from the fitting room, Leah was waiting with a satisfied grin, her hands already full of a few more sets she’d picked out while you were changing. She handed them to the sales associate without even glancing at the price tags, her focus entirely on you.
As you left the store, Leah’s arm draped casually around your shoulders, she leaned in to whisper in your ear. “Can’t wait to see you in all that… and then out of it.”
You laughed, playfully shoving her away. “You’re impossible, you know that?”
She grinned, unfazed. “Only when it comes to you, babe.”
The two of you continued your shopping spree, visiting a few more designer stores where Leah picked out everything from a stunning evening gown to a pair of sunglasses that she claimed made you look like a movie star. By the time you were done, you could barely carry all the bags, but Leah was right there beside you, more than happy to shoulder the load.
As you walked down the street together, the sun beginning to set behind the London skyline, you couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude and love for the woman beside you. Leah might be tough and commanding on the pitch, but when it came to you, she was the most loving, generous partner you could ever ask for.
And as the two of you made your way back to the car, Leah’s arm never leaving your shoulders, you knew that no matter where life took you, Leah would always be there, ready to spoil you with not just gifts, but with her endless devotion and love.

Are TZ Married?
Tumblr media
I spot a yellow-diamond ring (at least five carats, maybe six), from Bulgari. “This is my splurge, my treat-myself,” she smiles. “I do get a little employee discount,” she laughs shyly. “It feels like it’s gonna be an heirloom, like one day I can give it to my grandchildren.”  -- Zendaya for British Vogue, October 2021 (Interview conducted on July 1, 2021).
According to a Bulgari representative, Z's yellow diamond ring is an "engagement ring."
Rewind to November 2017 when Z posted this to her Snapchat account:
Tumblr media
Then she immediately followed up with this Snapchat post:
Tumblr media
Z's fondness for yellow diamond engagement rings obviously predates 2021. So did she or didn't she buy the Bulgari yellow diamond engagement ring for herself? That is the question. After reading the following statement in her interview in the October 2021 issue of British Vogue, I have serious doubts.
Tumblr media
In February 2021, when asked during an interview if Tom would settle down now, he said he would do. x Five months later, on July 2, 2021, Page Six confirmed Tom and Zendaya were a couple.
Tumblr media
But Z preferred to keep her dating status private during her interview on July 1, 2021 with British Vogue -- the same day the paparazzi photographed them kissing:
...dating her IRL is, she insists, a tall order. The list of approvals is long – “my dad, my brothers, it’s a whole thing. Good luck to whoever wants to take that on,” she scoffs. Perhaps her Spider-Man co-star Tom Holland, who has long been rumoured to be her boyfriend, is up to the task? After all, the following day (July 2, 2021), photos appear of the pair kissing in a car after our lunch (on July 1, 2021)."
August 2021
TZ attended their friends' wedding in August 2021. While at the wedding reception, Z did not participate in the traditional bridal bouquet toss. She watched the toss from their nearby table and then shared a kiss with Tom after the bouquet was caught. x
On September 1, 2021, TZ finally acknowledged they are a couple via Tom's Instagram post.
Tumblr media
In November 2021, Tom told GQ that he and Z will talk about their story and what it is when they're ready.
"This isn’t my story. It’s our story. And we’ll talk about what it is when we’re ready to talk about it together.”
In June 2023, during an interview with BuzzFeed, Tom said, "I'm locked up, so I'm happy and in love..." x
Tumblr media
In July 2023, during a podcast with Jay Shetty, Tom stated, "My relationship is the thing I keep most sacred. I don't talk about it. I try my best to keep it as private as possible. We both feel very strongly that that is the healthiest way for us to move on as a couple." x
September 2023
Miss Nicaragua allegedly shared during a live that she had met TZ in Oakland and that she hopes Zendaya's marriage goes well (post blogged on September 18, 2023). Note: TZ were in Oakland August 25-26, 2023.
Tumblr media
Three days later, on September 21, 2023, Darnell went live on Instagram to adamantly deny Zendaya is engaged.
If she's not engaged, is she married? 🤫
October 2023
Law and Darnell were on the bridal floor in Vera Wang's store in Beverly Hills on October 13, 2023. I believe it's safe to assume Z was there as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
February 2024
During a BBC Radio 2 interview, Z stated that British people are her family now.
April 2024
In a Vogue article dated April 9, 2024, Z described her perfect future which includes a protected life with her family.
Tumblr media
Speaking of a protected family life, TZ recently adopted a dog named Daphne from Protection Dogs Worldwide.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And speaking of dogs, Z left her beloved Noon with Tom in London while she went to California. Tom even took Noon to work at the Duke of York's Theatre several times while Z was far from home (pun intended) for a couple weeks during the months of June and July 2024.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note: Tom recently posted Noon, along with Daphne, on his Instagram account. x
October 2024
In October 2024, Tom launched his non-alcoholic beer, BERO. One of the three BERO brews, Noon Wheat, is named after "Tom and Zendaya's dog, Noon" and the "cofounder's (Tom) dog, Noon". So Noon is no longer just Z's dog. Noon is TZ's dog. Noon is Tom's dog, too. Noon is their dog.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tom considers himself Noon's dad. Both Tom and BERO posted for Noon's birthday calling him "My birthday boy" and "Tom's furry child," respectively.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
November 2024
Tumblr media
Noon is called one of "the most loved members of the Holland family..." on The Brothers Trust Instagram post.
April 2024
An Atlanta paparazzi posted this to his Instagram account and then deleted it.
Tumblr media
And then he posted and deleted this the following week:
Tumblr media
February & April 2024
Dom Holland attended Z's London premieres for both Dune 2 (February) and Challengers (April). Is this considered father-in-law behavior?
May 2024
According to Ashley Perez, her notary instructor "insinuated" TZ may have gotten a confidential (non-public) marriage license.
Tumblr media
Note: Ashley attends a college near the Bay Area.
California Confidential Marriage License Requirements:
The participating parties must be at least 18 years old to apply for a confidential marriage license. ✅
There are no CA state or US residency requirements.  ✅
The couple must state to the notary or county clerk office that they have been living together, as husband and wife or partners ✅ - not as roommates - at the time they apply for the marriage license, and must sign an affidavit on the license attesting to living together. There is no time requirement as to how long the couple has lived together.
You are not required to get married in the county where you purchase the confidential marriage license; however, you must be married in California.  You must file the license in the county where it was purchased.
No witnesses are required to be at the ceremony, AND no witnesses sign on the marriage license.
The marriage license is a confidential record and is registered at the County Clerk’s Office in the county where it was purchased. A notary public with special authorization may issue, sign, and file a confidential marriage license.
Secret, Civil, Private, and Traditional Weddings
It's not uncommon to have a civil wedding ceremony and then have a traditional or destination wedding at a later date. Celebrities Joey King, JLo, and Elizabeth Olsen have done it. Anya Taylor-Joy originally eloped in New Orleans in 2022 and then had a wedding in Italy the following year. Millie Bobby Brown had a private family wedding in May of this year and is in the process of planning a second wedding for family and friends. Robert Pattinson and Suki Waterhouse recently had a secret wedding ceremony. Beyoncé, Kerry Washington, and Margot Robbie had secret weddings as well. Did TZ have a civil/secret/private wedding ceremony and are they planning a traditional/second wedding in the future? If so, it wouldn't be the first time they've kept their relationship status a secret.

30. Diamond
@jegulus-microfic | March 30: diamond | word count: 619
If there was one thing that Regulus Black was known for it was being picky.
James has been thinking about this for months, even now as he walks back to their apartment he can't help but think about it.
Regulus had grown up in a fancy house in London with butlers and people who were willing to adhere to his every whim. This of course makes him, frankly at times, a very spoiled boy. While he had grown out of some of his habits from childhood, one thing neither of the Black brothers could ever outgrow was their expensive taste.
James has never minded this, he knew about all of the things that Regulus liked well before they got together. He loves Regulus and is more than happy to indulge him with all of those things.
This all tied into his dilemma.
Since he has never shied away from buying Regulus gifts. It's one of his many love languages. If he sees something that Regulus might like he will immediately buy it and give it to him, he won't even wait for a birthday or special occasion.
One of the things he will often buy for Regulus is jewelry. His boyfriend loves it, he trades out rings, necklaces, and earrings.
So what do you give your significant other that has a large assortment of rings (a lot of which) you buy for him yourself) each just as fancy as the next for an engagement ring?
This has been driving him crazy.
There are of course a few things that he knows. Like that he wants to get it engraved so that even if it is not custom-made it will be special, he knows it has to be silver, and he knows that it should not be overly flashy.
At the moment his biggest dilemma is what stone he will use. A diamond? no, too classic and boring. Pearl? too simple. Alexandirat? no blue wasn't either of their colors. Birth month stone? Basic. Opal, Emerald, Topaz… nothing seemed right. Nothing screamed, “Regulus Black I love you, marry me”.
He has seen hundreds of rings by now. Passed by so many jewelry stores, and had seen rings that Regulus would love…so why can't he seem to pick one?
Realistically James is aware that regardless of the ring that he gets him he will say yes. But how could he propose if he doesn't even know what stone Regulus would want? Isn't there some sort of guide or rule that says they should know?
The longer he waits the more reasons he comes up with as to why Regulus might say no and it becomes all too clear why he is having a hard time picking a stone. If he doesn't ask he doesn't get rejected.
Maybe taking the long way home wasn't doing any good to his overthinking. But Regulus had said that he would be home late and he thought the day was nice enough to go out.
The thoughts lay heavy on his stomach as he opened the door to their apartment.. and then almost like they had never even existed they vanished as he stepped in.
In the middle of their living room with flowers scattered around him and the light from the dining room hitting his face stood Regulus with a small box in his hand. He was smiling, a full real smile. Something that had been so rare when they met but he was now blessed with every day.
When he looks down at the ring in the box, he sees the complementary ring to the first one he had gotten Regulus, he knows that there is no world where Reg would've said no, or even hesitated.

Love at Wembley
Tumblr media
Our Story Masterlist Summary: Harry asks YN to marry him at Wembley.
In the last twelve years, Harry had learnt a lot about YN. He’d learnt that she still needs a cup of tea before bed to fall asleep, or she’s up until the early morning tossing and turning.
He knows she still blasts One Directions and all their solo songs at every opportunity she gets, singing all the words and nagging both Harry and Louis about when they were going to get back together.
Her favourite song to listen to when she’s having a sad day or when she misses her Mum and sister even more is Angels by Robbie Williams.
Louis was her rock, they don’t go a day without talking or at-least texting each other. She doted on him and vice verse and Harry often feared how much she told Louis about their relationship, because if YN was anything shy didn’t cover it.
On the subject of not being shy, their sex life had only grown and got better as they aged. Harry had learnt that her favourite position was between doggy-style or missionary with Harry’s hand around her neck in a loose hold.
Another thing that Harry had learnt was that YN disliked anything that was romantically cringey, like being proposed to in Paris. Her words being “It’s just not special, everyone gets proposed to there” whilst watching a Tik Tok of a couple getting engaged whilst standing near the Eiffel Tower. Harry made a mental note of never proposing in a popular engagement location.
This brings him to this moment where he is walking through London with Louis and Jeff on his way to choose a ring for YN. He’s known for the last twelve years he wanted to marry her. But with fame, touring and losing important people, it never seemed like the right time to pop the question.
As they walk into the store that Harry has been researching for what feels like years. They’re met with more options than they imagined. He thinks back to the day he asked Louis permission to marry YN, because if he wanted anyone’s blessing it was his.
---
They were visiting Doncaster one weekend for the twins birthday and after the busy day of celebrating the twins turning nineteen, with lots of food, family, friends, Louis and Harry had found themselves sitting out in the garden together.
As Louis took a drag from the white stick he held between his fingers, Harry breaks the silence “I..uh…I wanna ask you something”.
Louis tilts his head to look at him and blows the smoke out from his lungs and flicks some ash off his cigarette end before responding “You can ask me anything mate”
Harry nervously turned his rings on his fingers, Louis hadn’t seen him this nervous for a long time. “I wanna ask YN to marry me…and…I guess what I’m trying to ask is for your permission”.
Louis took another long drag from the white stick, before blowing the smoke out in front of him and then scratching his cheek with his thumb and tried his best to keep a serious expression. Harry still anxiously twisting the rings that sat on his fingers.
Letting out a sigh, “All I can say is…it’s about fookin’ time man”, causing both men to look at each other and let out a laugh. “No ‘onestly you have my permission, blessing and whatever else you need”.
---
Bringing Harry back to the moment of where the three men sat in a consultation room, looking at the few options they had chosen. Louis had already said which one he thought YN would love. Jeff stating that YN would say ‘yes’ even if Harry proposed with a Haribo ring.
Harry stared down at the ring that sat delicately in the box in front of him. The small band held a diamond on top with a touch of green. He didn’t understand why Louis would be so adamant that YN would love this one.
“I still don’t understand why you think this is the one” Harry spoke with a tad of stress in his voice, picking up the box that held the ring to study it more.
Louis and Jeff shared a look before Louis let out an annoyed sigh. “Mate…please just listen to me…Lottie literally sent me all the photos of engagement rings that YN has sent to her of the last few years…and guess what they’ve all had a touch of green in them”.
Harry nervously played with his bottom lip with his fingers “Why green..I just don’t kno-“
Interrupting him, Jeff intervened “H..when you look in the mirror..what do you see?”
Harry look at his manager and friend with a scowl, confused by the questions.
“Uh myself” Harry sarcastically replied.
“And what do you look at yourself with?” Louis prompted.
Harry took a moment to think, before he had a lightbulb moment “Uhh..my eyes”. Louis and Jeff stared at him waiting for the moment where it clicked. “My eyes are green”.
“Well done Mate…you got there in the fookin’ end” Louis sarcastically said, earning a nudge from Harry. Harry couldn’t wipe the grin off his face at the new fact he had learnt. YN wanted a green ring to represent the colour of his eyes. How romantic. “She’s romantic and soppy when she wants to be”.
---
Harry wanted the moment to be special but with the last leg of the tour underway it was proving to be difficult. He wanted the moment to be just YN and him, but being on tour it was rare for them to have a moment to themselves.
He debated popping the question whilst he had a show in Coventry, as it was the first show in the UK but something was telling him it just wasn't the right moment. He considered asking her in Paris, but then remembered she hated the thought of it being in a popular location. He began to believe there was no right place, but being inside Wembley Stadium made him realise that this is where it all began for him. If he didn't go to an audition, he wouldn't have met the love of his life.
Anne, Des and Gemma had arrived along with Harry's auntie, uncle and cousins. They all knew Harry had planned to ask YN today, ahead of the show, but the suspence was eating at them.
There was a quiet spell before the opening acts took to the stage. Harry took this as his opportunity "Babe...will you come with me to the stage a second?". Anne and Gemma sent him an excited grin as Teddy was cuddled up on Gemma's lap, knowing this was the moment they had been waiting for, for the last twelve years.
YN followed Harry out to the hallway as they made their way to the stage, Harry's arms slung over her shoulder and the little box discreetly hidden in his short pockets.
As the walked out and took in the empty stadium, before the room was about to be filled, Harry stood behind YN, his arms wrapped around her front resting across her collarbones.
"I'm so proud of you Bubs" YN began as she leaned back into his hold "Four nights in Wembley..you've absolutely fookin' smashed it"
Harry leaned down a pressed a kiss to her cheek "It all started here for me..and to be back just feels so fucking incredible".
"It's crazy to think that if you and Louis didn't audition that year...we wouldn't even know eachother" YN thought out loud, her hands reaching up to hold onto Harry's that were still wrapped around her "Fook...I don't even want to think about that". YN reached in her pocket for her phone "Let's take a photo..I wanna remember this moment".
After YN snapped the selfie of her and Harry, she studied the photo for a second, before turning to show Harry. As she turned, she realised Harry was no longer standing behind her, but knelt down on one knee with a black box in his hand, holding the little ring that was about to be on her finger. Capturing the moment, Lloyd was hiding behind one of the black boxes, positioned to the side of the stage.
For once, YN stood still and speechless. Harry began the speech he had rehearsed in his head for the last few weeks.
"YN..baby..it's been twelve years since I made you mine and my life has never been better...I would love to let you know all the reasons why I love you...I love you because you make me laugh when I needed it most...I love you because you inspire me to be a better person...I love you because you are extremely patient with me during my lowest points...I love you because you are an amazing sister who loves and takes care of your family...I love you because I know you’ll also be a great mother to our children someday...I love you because you have dreams and you’re not afraid to go after it...I love you because you dare to be yourself and own who you are...I love you because of how the light shines each morning together...I love you because of how comfortable silence can be, with you...and most importantly, I love you so much that I’ll want to be with you forever and I hope you’ll say yes. Will you marry me baby?"
Tears flowed down YN's face, Harry had always made her feel loved and wanted but listening to him list all the things he loves about her, was overwhelming. YN leant down and held Harry's cheeks as she kissed him deeply. Lips moving together, YN mumbled "Yes".
Standing up, Harry took the ring from the box and placed it on YN's finger, both admiring the start of their commitment to each other. "You're gonna be Mrs Styles".
"And I can't fookin' wait" YN excitedly announced, before Harry cupped her face and brought her in for another kiss. Their lips together in sync, YN's top lip being squeezed between Harry's as he deepened the kiss and moving his hand to sit at the bottom of her back to pull her even closer.
Pulling apart, but their hands still attached to one another, they couldn't wipe the smiles from their faces. "I love you"
"I love you more...Mrs Styles to be"

Let's be jolly
The first chapter of the MSI-verse Christmas fic (ignore the fact that it's almost March, time is fake) is up, featuring ugly Christmas sweaters, Charles being totally normal about that time Edwin banged Thomas in a supply closet, and pixies. You can read the first couple of chapters below or the whole thing here on AO3.
Rating: T
Warnings: none
Relationships: Payneland and Palasaki; past Catwin
Summary: When Charles drags Edwin to the MSI’s annual holiday party, Edwin expects the extent of his troubles to be the appalling jumper Charles makes him wear. No one is expecting the attack by pixies.
Excerpt:
"Back in my day, Christmas was a dignified affair,” Edwin says with a sniff. “Garlands of holly and plum pudding. Not all this garish nonsense—”
“So, you don’t like the jumpers, mate?” Charles asks from behind him.
Edwin turns to his partner, dismayed. “You expect me to wear this in public, Charles?”
“I think you look mint! And we’ll match.” Charles does a little twirl. Their jumpers are an eye-scalding shade of green, each sporting a skeleton tangled up in Christmas lights and wearing a Santa hat. “And see, they light up!” He presses a button on the inside of his sleeve and the Christmas lights begin to blink.
Edwin just stares.
“Listen, Dougie told me the competition for the ugly jumper contests in Birmingham was fierce,” Charles says. “The London office is twice its size, so we have to be on our game.”
“People have contests about this?”
“You’ve really never been to a Christmas party, mate?”
“Not since 1915. If anyone had walked into my parents’ house in this getup, they would have faced social ruin.”
“No social ruin here.” Charles grins. “So long as you don’t overdo it on the eggnog.”
Only a few short months ago, before Charles Rowland was transferred to the London branch and turned Edwin’s entire life around, Edwin would not have dreamed of attending the MSI’s yearly holiday party. Before Charles, he had only attended the monthly socials once, on Niko’s behest, and had never stepped foot in the holiday party. Charles, however, is a firm believer that it’s healthy to get to know one’s coworkers socially and that it can even be enjoyable. Edwin thinks he might be a bit mad, but he humors him. To a point, at least. He refuses to do this monthly.
“So, you want to wear them?” Charles asks, so hopefully that there’s really only one answer that Edwin can give.
Edwin sighs. “I suppose.”
“Brills!” Charles beams at him. “Let me find my shoes and then we can go.”
“Best of luck.” Edwin’s eyes scan over the heaps of boxes that cover most of Charles’s tiny flat. He moved in September and yet still hasn’t unpacked. Edwin doesn’t know how he tolerates this chaos, but Charles seems perfectly content to live out of boxes and swears that he knows where everything is, though he texts Edwin asking to borrow some kitchen implement or another that he’s misplaced at least once a week.
“You know, we really shouldn’t be wasting our time at a holiday party,” he says to Charles’s curls, which are the only thing he can see behind the teetering pile of boxes. “We have a case to solve.”
“Mate, we always have a case to solve. That’s the job, isn’t it?”
“For all we know, there will be another robbery while we’re drinking eggnog and cavorting with the likes of Brad and Hunter.”
“I bring you to one party and now you’re talking about cavorting. Slow down there.”
Edwin huffs. “It simply seems wrong to engage in a night of revelry when we haven’t gathered a single lead.”
Their current case is most vexing. Nearly a dozen antique stores, museums, and private homes have been robbed in the past month, with no signs of windows and doors being disturbed, no footage caught on security cameras, and no helpful witnesses. The items stolen range from diamond jewelry to an Ancient Greek vase to a coin purportedly fished from the wreckage of the Titanic. The only thing they have in common is that they’re rumored to have some kind of supernatural properties, though in most cases, that can’t be corroborated.
“And you think we’re going to gather any leads if we stay in tonight?” Charles asks.
“We could speak to the witnesses again.”
“Yeah, don’t think either of them are going to be any more help than they were the last ten times.”
Edwin sighs, having to silently concede the point. The only people present during the robberies have been a clerk who was so addled that he attacked officers who responded to the alarm, a security guard found sound asleep in the middle of a trashed museum exhibit, and a homeowner found dead from a fall from his balcony. The dead man’s ghost didn’t linger long enough to be questioned and none of the survivors offered any useful information. If they remembered what happened, they weren't forthcoming.
“We could put in another call to the Paranormal Investigation Bureau in New York,” he says without any enthusiasm. The MSI’s American counterparts tend to be challenging to work with, but the robberies bear a striking resemblance to a string of robberies in New York last year.
“Nah, those knobs didn’t solve it when it was their case. They’re not going to be much help with ours, are they?”
“Then we should consult with the local ghost population.” Edwin’s working theory is that they have a ghost culprit, as ghosts don’t show up on cameras and can often work magic. He simply needs to find out what a ghost would need with so many cursed objects.
“Crystal already reached out to her ghost informant for us.”
“Yes , but—”
“Maybe taking a step away from the case will be good for us. We can come back with fresh eyes on Monday.” Charles’s voice takes on a wheedling tone.
“We do not need fresh eyes, Charles. We need a lead.”
“And we’ll find one, mate. On Monday. Here they are!” Charles emerges from the pile of boxes, holding two pairs of trainers. “Which ones go better, do you think?”
Edwin rolls his eyes at the ceiling. For such an easygoing person, his partner can be incredibly stubborn. “Charles, I assure you, there is no shoe in creation that would go with that outfit.”
Charles’s grin only widens. “Yeah, I was thinking the white ones too. Thanks, mate. Be ready in a tick.”
“Please, do take your time,” Edwin says. “I assure you, I’m in no rush.”
“Look, we’ll only stay an hour and if you need a break, we can step outside for a tick,” Charles says, hopping about as he puts his shoes on. Edwin doesn’t bother telling him that it would be much easier if he would just sit down. “If we’re still hungry afterwards, I’ll buy you dinner, yeah?”
That mollifies Edwin slightly. “The usual place?” The hole in the wall Indian restaurant where he and Charles had dinner together the first time has become their go-to spot.
“Where else? I’ll buy you extra samosas.” Charles’s voice takes on a wheedling tone.
Edwin sighs and resigns himself to his fate. At least everyone else at the party will look as ridiculous as they do.
***
“So,” Charles says. “Seems like Birmingham’s holiday parties are a bit different than the ones you have here in London, yeah?”
Edwin gives him a look like he’s caught him eating a burrito while standing over a one-of-a-kind book. “I would say so.”
Everyone around them is dressed as if for a posh cocktail party, in dresses and suits, not an ugly jumper between them. Personally, Charles thinks they wear suits all week and shouldn’t need to wear them to a holiday party, especially when the party is held in the second floor conference room and not even anywhere fancy, but what does he know?
He can’t quite suppress a grin as he says, “This is one of those things we’re going to laugh about later.”
“You are already laughing,” Edwin accuses.
“You’ve got to admit, it’s funny.”
“We look absurd.”
“Nah, we look like we’re ready to have a good time. Everyone else looks absurd.”
“Oh my God!” Niko comes hurrying towards them, wearing a red dress with a fluffy tulle skirt and dangling Christmas ornament earrings. She, at least, looks festive. “You guys look amazing.”
“See? Niko says we look amazing.” Charles nudges Edwin, who just sighs.
Crystal follows her, smirking. She’s dressed in a tasteful little black dress. “And you match.”
“It was Charles’s idea,” Edwin says in a long-suffering voice. “He seemed to think there would be some kind of contest.”
Charles shrugs. “They had one in Birmingham. Figured they’d have one here too.”
“You figured?” Edwin demands. “You didn’t check?”
“Well, you guys definitely win the ugly sweater contest,” Crystal says.
“They light up.” Charles demonstrates, much to Niko’s glee. Edwin looks like he wishes he could sink through the floor. Charles claps him on the shoulder. “I’m going to go get us some eggnog.”
“I’ll come with you,” Crystal says. “I want to watch Nurse’s reaction when she sees you.”
“Oi,” Charles says without any heat and lets her steer him towards the hallway, where they’re keeping the refreshments. Whoever was in charge of the decorating did the bare minimum—there are a few strands of garland hung between the light fixtures on the ceiling and a lopsided Christmas tree in the corner—but the food and drink spreads look decent.
“Do you have something on Edwin?” Crystal asks as he hands her a glass of eggnog. “Are you blackmailing him? That’s the only way I thought I’d ever see him in a Christmas sweater.”
“Maybe I’m just that convincing.” He flashes her his most charming smile.
She snorts loudly, which is her usual reaction to his flirting. They both know he doesn’t mean anything by it. Charles thinks that Crystal is bloody awesome and one of the fittest women he’s ever met to boot, but he figured out pretty early on that they’re destined to just be friends. The first time he had dinner with her, Edwin, and Niko, it didn’t take much detective work to see that she and Niko are mad about each other, even if neither of them seem like they’re going to do anything about it. Charles doesn’t know what they’re waiting for, but Crystal gets cranky whenever he brings it up.
“Niko looks nice,” he says innocently.
The narrow-eyed look that gets him tells him she’s not fooled. “Of course she does. Notice that we didn’t show up in matching outfits like an old married couple.”
“Maybe you should have. Nothing like an ugly jumper to get in the spirit.”
“You should see our apartment,” Crystal says. “Trust me, Niko doesn’t need more holiday spirit. But neither does Edwin, I guess.”
Charles is surprised at that. He hasn’t exactly talked to Edwin about it, but he didn’t expect his partner, who needs to be cajoled into taking a day off as carefully as Charles used to have to coax his mum’s mean old cat into the crate to go to the vet, to be big on Christmas. “He doesn’t?”
“No, Edwin loves Christmas,”  Crystal says. “Well, ‘proper’ Christmas, like they did back in his day. He even took over our kitchen last year to make plum pudding and roasted chestnuts. He even found a pheasant to roast. It was all pretty good, actually. Though I told him this year, we’re doing Christmas at his place. He can make a mess of his own kitchen.”
“Oh,” Charles says. “You guys do Christmas together?”
“We did last year. Edwin cooked an Edwardian feast for twenty people and we made him watch a Hallmark movie marathon.”
“That's aces.” Charles doesn’t know why he never thought to ask what his friends do for Christmas. He guesses he just assumed they’d all be off with their own families, which was pretty daft, now that he thinks about it. He knows that Edwin doesn’t really have anyone besides him, Crystal, and Niko, unless he counts Director Nurse, and he doesn’t see her inviting him over for Christmas. He’s glad they have each other.
It just would have been nice if they’d thought to invite Charles. Christmas is a week away and he plans to spend it alone with some curry and a Home Alone marathon, like he has every year since he left home. It’s not like he can go to his parents’ place, not even though his mum invites him every year. He wanted her to come spend a few days in London with him this year, but his aunt and uncle are visiting for the week, so she can’t get away. They’ll see each other sometime in January.
It doesn’t really matter, does it? Christmases at home were miserable when he was a kid. His dad was never happy with what Charles and his mum got for him and always ended up drunk and angry by the end of the night, which was never a good combination. Charles is an adult now, with his own flat and a decent job. He should just be happy he doesn’t have to spend Christmas at home.
“Charles!” Assistant Director Kashina calls as he walks by with a plate of oysters and an overfull glass of eggnog, Director Nurse at his side. “Fantastic jumper! Asa, we should have an ugly jumper contest next year. It’d be great for morale, don’t you think?”
Nurse looks at Charles, closes her eyes for a brief instant, like she doesn’t understand how her life got to this moment, and keeps going.
“Cheers!” Charles raises his own glass of eggnog to Kashi. “Merry Christmas!”
When he turns back to Crystal, she’s grinning. “That was everything I was hoping for.”
“Aces.” Charles grins at her, pushing aside the melancholy of a moment earlier. This is a party, after all. “Come on, let’s find the others before Edwin tries to escape through the air ducts.”
They’re both giggling at that mental image all the way back to Niko and Edwin, who they find talking to a sandy-haired bloke in a glittery green suit patterned with Christmas ornaments. Charles would admire the suit—it’s not as good as his and Edwin’s jumper, but it’s close—except he’s standing a shade too close to Edwin and that puts Charles’s hackles up. There are too many people in this office who enjoy giving Edwin a hard time and if this prat is one of them, he’s about to have a bad night.
“Here’s your eggnog, mate.” Charles inserts himself between Edwin and the newcomer, pressing a friendly hand to Edwin’s back as he passes him his glass. Edwin has warmed to casual touches over the last few months, which is brills, because Charles would hate it if he couldn’t put his arm around him or annoy him by ruffling his hair.
“Ah, thank you.” Edwin takes his glass. “Charles, this is Thomas King.”
Charles blinks at Thomas King, a memory returning to him. “You work with Thomas fine. When you’re not having sex with him in supply closets.” “Supply closet Thomas?” he blurts without thinking, regretting it as soon as it leaves his lips.
Niko falls into a giggling fit and Crystal nearly chokes on her eggnog.
Edwin’s head whips around to glare at Charles, cheeks pinkening. “Charles,” he hisses, his eyes darting about. He’s under the impression that everyone in the office doesn’t know that he and Thomas used to get it on in the supply closet and Charles hasn’t had the heart to correct him.
Charles isn’t sure why the knowledge that Edwin used to shag Thomas King in a supply closet has stuck with him, why he thinks of it every time he has to grab more printer paper from the closet two doors down from Edwin’s office. Was it that closet? It had to be that one, didn’t it? Edwin wouldn’t have been indiscreet enough to do it in the supply closet near the workroom.  Or did they move around, switching it up a bit?
“Supply closet Thomas.” Thomas nods thoughtfully. He’s holding a martini, though Charles didn’t see any drinks on offer except for eggnog, punch, hot chocolate, and water. “I’ve been called much worse.”
“And this,” Edwin grits out. “Is my partner, Charles Rowland.”
Thomas raises an eyebrow at Charles. Charles doesn’t know if he cares for that eyebrow. “Another partner? I thought Nurse gave up on that after that disaster with Agent Russell.”
“No disasters yet, mate.” Charles props his elbow on Edwin’s shoulder. “Things are going brills, aren’t they, Edwin?”
“Quite,” Edwin says. “We’ve been working together since August and the only disaster has been the mess Charles makes of my office on a regular basis.”
“Sorry I make you eat and drink every day, mate.”
Edwin sighs. “Where were you this time, Thomas?”
“Seville, again.” Thomas rolls his eyes and takes a sip of his martini. “Always Seville.”
“What’s in Seville?” Charles asks, intrigued despite himself. He knows that Thomas works for the MSI’s International Office, meaning he travels all over the world, doing lots of undercover work. If it weren’t for wanting to stay within driving distance of his mum, Charles may have tried to join. He thinks he’d be aces at undercover work; he’s good with people.
“Vampires,” Thomas says. “Way too many vampires. Well, less than there were after two years of turf wars, but that’s what you get when you can’t keep your teeth to yourself.”
Thomas tells them all about the Seville vampire wars and Charles tries to listen, because it sounds like an interesting story, but his brain is hung up on supply closets. He has to admit that Thomas is a good-looking chap, if you look past the part where he obviously thinks he’s James Bond, shaken not stirred martinis and all. Why’d Edwin end things, he wonders. It had to be Edwin who ended it, from the way Thomas looks at Edwin like he wants nothing more than to stir his martini. And who would break up with Edwin, who is a bonafide catch?
“Anyway, I should catch up with some people,” Thomas says finally. “But lovely to see you,  Edwin, ladies. And to meet you, Chester.”
Charles’s eyes narrow. “It’s Charles.”
“Is it?” Thomas’s smile grows more toothy. “My mistake. Fantastic sweaters, by the way. Green is your color, Edwin. Maybe come find me under the mistletoe later?”
Edwin flushes. “I cannot imagine there’s any mistletoe at an office party.”
“Not yet,” Thomas says and turns away.
“Bit of a prat, isn’t he?” Charles asks as soon as Thomas is out of earshot.
Edwin gives him a strange look. “What do you mean?”
Charles just shrugs, because he isn’t really sure, truth be told. “Why’d you two break up, anyway?”
“Niko, let’s go check out the snack table,” Crystal says.
“But—”
“Snacks!” Crystal steers her away.
“Thomas and I didn’t break up, per se.” Edwin is still looking at Charles strangely. “I was young and lonely when we were having our… assignations, but I eventually realized that being intimate with one’s colleague would only lead to trouble. No one needs a repeat of the mess between Agents Bradley, Kahn, and Drake, do we?”
“Right, so…”
“Charles, what does it matter? It’s been well over a year since the last time Thomas and I…”
“Got it on in a closet?” Charles supplies helpfully.
“No, the last time was at my flat. Obviously. And it’s been at least three years since it was a regular occurrence, so none of this is relevant.”
“Right.” Charles spends a lot of time at Edwin’s flat, probably more than his own. It’s a nice flat, a cozy little one bedroom overflowing with bookshelves.  He can’t imagine Thomas with his shiny suits and his martinis sitting on Edwin’s comfy blue sofa, surrounded by paperback mysteries.
“Is something the matter, Charles?” Edwin sounds peevish now and it occurs to Charles that he may be the one being a bit of a prat.
“Just looking out for you, mate,” Charles says quickly. “Wasn’t here to make sure you were alright back then, was I?”
“I assure you, Charles, I am not going to require smelling salts because of the presence of a former paramour.” Edwin’s tone is snippy, but his expression softens somewhat. “Thomas and I have successfully worked together for years without it being an issue. Now, should we go find Crystal and Niko?”
“Good idea,” Charles says, relieved that the moment of awkwardness has passed. He’s not used to having awkward moments with Edwin; they clicked on their first case together and haven’t looked back. He makes a mental note not to mention the supply closet thing again. Or think about it, for that matter. “Lead the way.”

❝ Dearest gentle reader,
While this author will freely admit to paying some special attention to the Bridgerton and Featherington families over the course of her writings, there is certainly another family of the ton who is quite equally worthy of note. The Norringtons of Edgewater, headed by notorious eccentric Baron Peter Norrington, certainly seem poised to create some ripples in London’s social scene this season, especially with two out of three daughters officially presented to society.
At the head of the line of Norrington children is Miss Eliza Norrington, now entering her third season with, this author is regretful to report, seemingly no more hope of finding a match then in her two previous seasons. Though it can hardly be doubted that the eldest Miss Norrington has been properly trained in all the genteel arts befitting a daughter of nobility, as well as a perfectly polite and compassionate manner, she also seems to possess an unfortunate - in the eyes of her potential suitors, at least - fondness for books, having often been seen at social events with her nose tucked into a tomb. This, combined with her timid nature, seems to have warded any eligible gentleman off from calling on her, to the presumed despair of her dear mama, who is very much the opposite of her dear eldest daughter in disposition.
Then we must turn our attention to the middle daughter, Miss Genevieve Norrington, who will be making her debut this London season. The young Miss Genevieve, like her mama, also appears to be very different from her elder sister; indeed, as this author hears it, she is in possession of a fierce temper and a rather outspoken tongue, having often been heard spouting ideas about gender equality and women’s education that seem altogether too modern for most members of the ton. This rather nasty reputation, accompanied by the fact that she will be sharing her debut with Miss Daphne Bridgerton, the Queen’s recently named diamond of this season, does not bode well for Miss Genevieve’s prospects this season in the opinion of this author, and may in fact leave Lady Norrington with two daughters begun on the track to becoming that most dreaded of things, the spinster.
And, last but certainly not least, there is still Miss Aurelia Norrington, the youngest and yet-to-be-debuted Norrington daughter. If possible, Miss Aurelia seems to show even less willingness to be presented and wed than her sister Genevieve - indeed, this author hears, she has often been known to deride the so-called marriage mart and the traditions surrounding it, insisting that we should all be better off finding matches by chance the way commoners do. Although there will be some time for the youngest Norrington to change her mind about these views - or, rather for her mother to change them for her - she seems to be quite content watching this season from the sidelines with childhood friend Miss Eloise Bridgerton, the two watching the goings-on of London society with negligible envy as their other friend Miss Penelope Featherington seeks to navigate it, as she makes her debut alongside her sisters.
Indeed, dearest reader, it may seem from the outside that there will be nothing of note in store for the Norrington sisters this season, simply another disagreeable young lady fading into the background and chasing away all prospects while her elder sister marches further and further towards the role of old maid. But all is not as it seems - for I do tell you, reader, it would appear that an unfortunate meeting with the Viscount Bridgerton while trying to help his diamond of a sister escape his protective glares at her suitors may have sparked a connection between Miss Eliza and Lord Anthony. And as it would happen, the newly debuted Miss Genevieve seemed to have some sort of prior introduction to London’s newest arrival, the Duke of Hastings, despite, to this author’s knowledge, never having been formally introduced to the man - and, not to be outshone by her elder sisters, Miss Aurelia has publicly declared her shared intention with Miss Eloise Bridgerton to discern the identity of this very gentle author, a fruitless endeavour indeed.
Yes, gentle reader, I believe this season, with all its Bridgertons, Featheringtons, and Norringtons in the mix, may prove to be the most dramatic, scandalous, and perhaps even romantic one in quite a while. But, for better or for worse, you may count on one thing: that I shall be here to dutifully inform you about it all.
Yours Truly,
Lady Whistledown. ❞
