4. Thank God for fic finders! Hopefully you can help me find this one bc I've been dying to reread it.

This fic is a sci-fi Au, with Ship Commander LWJ and Inventor?/Engineer? WWX It opens up with WWX escaping captivity from the Jins, who kept him prisoner for 13 years, making him invent for them, and forcing him/torturing him with android? body modifications.

Specifically, he was also kept close to JGY, which gave him an opportunity to escape at some sort of large Space Federation Meeting that LWJ and his ship were attending. WWX is caught by LWJ during his attempted escape and is brought back into LWJs ship, where they are then chased by the jins the rest of the story. I can't remember much about the rest of the story besides the general WWX whump, wangxian being sand and horny for each other, and their ship being hunted down by the jins. The other sect leaders are in the background in their own ships

I hope it's still out there and didn't get deleted, I haven't had any luck finding it in ao3s science fiction tags

For #5 unfortunately it was not that. It was canon settings. Some things i remember: before yllz sacrifices himself, he kidnaps hanguangjun, and when the other wei ying wakes up in his body and frees him, he immadietly knocks him out and takes him back the cloud recesses. From there wei ying escapes and the jiangs find him at the side of the road and they believe him, that he is not the yllz. Thanks for the reccomend tough, i'll check the fic♥

7. Hi! I'm looking for a fic! Basically, the fic starts off with wwx dead. He died when the wens came to lotus pier and madam yu had him whipped, his hand cut off, and thrown into the river. LZ is called to play inquiry for him by JY and JC. They find out that he's been hanging around as a ghost/river god and they're afraid he's turning resentful. Later they find out that the new bead disciple has been doing all the stuff they had suspected wwx of doing when the head disciple kills his own brother. Wwx ends up taking over the body of the brother and coming back to life to bring him justice and he gets to keep the body! Over time he starts to look more and more like himself without the wounds he died with.

Madam Yu gets frozen as punishment for all her bull.

LZ and WWX end up getting married and on their wedding night they go to the jin sect and check on JZ who they find out has been getting poisoned by MY who was setting up MZ.

They also find the wen remnants at a labor camp and save them.

In this fic, wwx is very strong, maintaining the power he had when he was a river god.

Please can I ask for help with finding a MDZS fanfic - I have been looking for days to find this angsty Wangxian fanfic on AO3 but I don't have an account and I seem to have lost my browser history as well! I will try to summarise as best I can..The fic is based in a modern world, but the rivalry in cultivation sects still exist. It starts with Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian as college roommates, where LWJ is very introverted and one day he gets hurt/beaten up by the Wen clan and WWX takes care of him, then he slowly starts warming up and spending time with WWX's friends - NHS, MianMian and JC. WWX is oblivious to LWJ's feelings initially but eventually they become boyfriends but none of their friends know about their relationship. Then one day WWX has to go away because of the Wens (I can't remember exactly how, but Madame Yu helps him escape, change his identity and pretend to have disappeared off the face of the earth). He goes through a lot of different jobs but also joins some secret forces and becomes very skilled in defence and weapons. Few years later, he surfaces again with a whole new identity (I think as MXY?) as a pretend fiance of a long-lost Wen descendant to try and overthrow the tyranny of WRH. He looks exactly like WWX but they manage to convince everyone he is not and just has an uncanny resemblance to him. LWJ is convinced it is actually WWX but WWX keeps his distance to keep LWJ safe. Eventually the truth comes out when the whole friend group decides to go out on a holiday and play a game of drunken truth and dare. Here WWX confesses his first love and how they got together in college which gives him away; he stops trying to pretend he isn't WWX. There is a very sweet reunion scene with LWJ and WWX but it ends up with them arguing. At this holiday, they get attacked by goons sent by the Wens and WWX get out to defend them - this point is where I lost the fic :'( @wingedangelthing

For 13, I can't seem to find the fic but I remember it! It's a post-Qiuongqi Path AU where WWX surrenders on the condition that the Wen are safe (I think they go with the Lans?). And he ends up swearing not to use cultivation of any variety and becomes the prisoner of the Nie, but JGY threatens Jin Ling and Jiang Yanli if he shares any secrets he shouldn't and also arranges for his letters to be stolen.

There's also a scene where WWX comes clean to LXC about no longer having a golden core because LXC was trying to get him to play cleansing for NMJ and won't take no for an answer until WWX tells him that he *can't*

16. Hi there! I've been wanting to re-read a fic and was hoping someone knew what it was, because I can't seem to find it by tag or among my bookmarks where it should be.

Wei Ying is starting a new (music, I think) school and ends up in a fancy, soundproofed suite with lan zhan as a room mate. At first he thinks LZ is ignoring him, but eventually figures out that LZ is deaf and just wears the headphones to keep most people from approaching him because he doesn't want people to know. Wei Ying begins learning sign language and adjusts his interactions with Lan Zhan to account for his inability to hear without letting on that he knows.

Later in the fic, they end up playing music together, they get together, there's a dinner or something with Lan Quiren, and Wei Ying finds out that Lan Zhan had specifically chosen WY out of the prospective options to be his room mate, but I can't remember the exact reason. The fic may have been unfinished, and I'm hoping it wasn't taken down!

19. You guys saved my brain last time, I'm hoping you can save me again! It's Gusu lecture era canon divergence, with LQR is a good teacher. The students hold out against the invading Wens with creativity (WWX), cunning (NHS) and sheer body mindedness (everyone else LOL). The scene I recall most is that WWX has a plan involving resentful energy and is voted down. Eventually the defenders get driven into the caves, with LQR being tortured outside and he refused to give them up. LZ turns to WWX and says what was that plan again? Eventually, the Nies show up to help drive out the Wens. At 5he end, NMJ says something about they would be glad to take their help in the SSC no matter how little they can contribute and LQR says "About that...." It was a one shot probably less than 20k. I've gone though good teacher LQR and equivalents for months, and I'm at page 58 of my AO3 history with no hits. Help!! @mreisse

The headmaster had shown him this one.

And he had read it with some level of amusement.  Especially the line, “While I appreciate the wealth of knowledge your new teacher, Yiling Laozu, appears to possess in certain niche fields, I am afraid I am yet to be convinced of the merits of passing along such specialized knowledge to 8-year-olds who have neither the moral compass nor the inhibition to look beyond the excitement of raw power.”

He had read that line three times, trying to figure out what about those words sounded familiar to him.

The kicker of it was the end. 

The letter had been signed,

The headmaster had been of the opinion that, just like Sizhui, his father too was a humble man, despite his illustrious heritage and generational wealth.

But he knew faux humility when he saw it.

A Concerned Father was not a signature signifying self-effacement.

A Concerned Father was, in fact, the man’s announcement that he spoke on behalf of fathers everywhere, and not on concern for solely his son.

So while they were out Wei Ying started to destroy the Yin Tiger. Wen Qing senses something was wrong and hurriedly went back to the Burial Mounds. Time skip Wei Ying still dies (?) Wen Qing was trying to revive him until she passes out. Time skip again Lan Zhan Jiang Yanli Jin Zixuan came to the burial mounds, Jin Zixuan got shot by an arrow and was poisoned so Jiang Yanli find Wen Qing and beg at her to save her husband. I don't remember much but at some point they saw Wei Ying's corpse.

Here are my top 10, all worthy of multiple re-reads (updating as I go along so check back):

听候发落; As You Wish by piggycat, translated to English by sunsandships - This story completely blew me away. I can say without hesitation that this is the best GGDD fic I’ve ever read. It’s a very long fic and I read it in one sitting. That should give you an idea of how good it is. I love the realism of it. It doesn’t read like a fairy tale, yet has all the qualities of angst, sweetness, etc. that make those fairy tale-ish ones so enjoyable. The author wrote some excellent companion pieces that really add to the story, which were also translated by sunsandships.

Epiphyte by feenwitch - Beautiful slow burning story where DD has retired somewhat and helps GG who is really burnt out.

Fixtures and Fittings by ella_minnow - DD is a famous motorcycle racer, GG is an interior designer hired to remodel his home. The mood of this one has really stuck with me.  

The Scent of Happiness by vesna - Beautifully told. DD is famous in this story, but GG owns a bakery/cafe.

With Joy and Purpose by feenwitch - A heartbreaking space story where DD is an android stranded on a distant planet that GG crashes onto.

forehead kisses, break my knees by kinkywrists. - One of those angsty, sad stories with a lot of emotional depth. Well written, very engaging.

小偷玫瑰 · Voleur de Roses - This is a very angsty, heartbreaking story from the Chinese fandom, by AbyssJIN, translated by Fefedove.

if you would only let you by gdgdbaby - GG and DD take a road trip.

Victorian AU by vesna - Memorable, sweet slow burner set in Victorian London.

Finding Yibo by vesna - Adorable, infectiously charming tale where DD turns into a small child that GG has to care for.

Cut to the Feeling by vesna - DD is a PA and a dance instructor, GG is an idol. Interesting story, different atmosphere from the usual.    

Pretty Dead by Verona95 - Detective GG and student DD come together during a murder investigation. Interesting and suspenseful, with a very unique atmosphere. So good.

Others I recommend:

yesterday, tomorrow by sophiahelix - GG and DD are filming a movie on location, and working through relationship issues along the way.

Stripped by vesna - GG is an art student and English tutor, DD is a dance student and part time nude model. Very cute, often humorous story.    

you can take my heart by ThirtySixSaveFiles - Another space story where DD is an android and GG is a pilot/mechanic.

a bar at the folies-bergère by Anonymous - GG is a painter and DD is a bartender. Short but very sweet.

A Weekend in Sanya by biscutpoo - Excellent story. Highly recommended.

aubade by ThirtySixSaveFiles - A sweet, mildly angsty space story where GG and DD are on opposite sides of a diplomatic negotiation.

citrus, cypress, sandalwood, sage by ThirtySixSaveFiles - Very sweet story where GG is a witch and DD is a model.

Close Your Pretty Eyes by DeviyudeThoolika - Angsty, heartbreaking story with some truly gutting romantic dialogue.

Satisfaction Brought it Back by feenwitch - DD turns into a cat and is given to GG to care for. Very sweet story.

you, in every world by Deinde - A heartsick DD is hurled into the world of the Untamed, where he meets WWX and LWJ. There is a sequel where both GG and DD return.

Venus by brooklinegirl - Short steamy story on the set of the Bazaar photo shoot.

Mystery Dance by vesna - DD is teased for being a virgin.

Doctor, Doctor by feenwitch - Short, sweet space story where GG is ship’s doctor caring for the flirty, wild DD through his various adventures.

Love In the Afternoon by DeviyudeThoolika - Angsty, lovely story where GG is a therapist helping idol DD deal with insomnia.

Making my loneliness small by becka - A very sweet, at times slightly melancholic, story where DD is an idol and GG is a graphic designer turned farmer.

to love you well by timelykey - One of my absolute favorite tropes; ‘taking care of a sick friend’. GG is sick and DD comes to the rescue. Really enjoyed this one.

I enjoy the skill and care that goes into these stories. They are infused with sweetness and warmth. Some of them are more ‘realistic’, some of them are set in other universes, but they all share an obvious love for GG and DD. None attempt to ‘intrude’ into their actual lives. These are works of fiction.

I think we might all hope to be loved enough that people would want to write this sort of sweetness about us, and that we could be so in love as to inspire it.

Hurt/comfort, especially grief, or taking care of sick/injured

Enemies to lovers

Stupid, oblivious pining

Hilarious, ridiculous idiots

Modern AU preferred, although I'm open to really good fic from any setting

I prefer 'realistic' stories over fantastical ones (vampires, etc), but I'm open to anything well-written

15k - 150k preferred, but open to others

In case you're new here, I don't gaf about top/bottom (my only preference is that people stop making such a big deal about it)

Here are some things I'd like to avoid:

Mpreg

Gender switch

ABO (although Dom/sub is fine)

Incest

Fandom crossover (with anything other than people/characters directly connected to GGDD)

I prefer stories that aren't overly fluffy

I don't read WIP, but if you have a good one to recommend, do so and I'll mark it for when it's complete.
