I assume anon doesn’t follow me, but I actually do check them if I come across one when I’m free! I take the sequence and enter it in nucleotide BLAST, using the experimental eukaryote library and selecting slightly similar sequences (blastn). You can do it pretty easily, it often takes under a minute.
I checked this post as an example, but selected the prokaryote library for results because the “closest match” (I know it was a joke) was bubonic plague, or Yersinia pestis (a bacterium). The closest match was 100% with Desulfurobacterium thermolithotrophum, which is a bacterium from a deep-sea hydrothermal vent. (You can look it up, but also thermo + litho + troph = heat + stone + nutrition)
I use slightly similar sequences because sometimes the match is quite poor and looking for better matches often yields no results. But rest assured, hellsite genetics posts get randomly checked by another biology blog :D
Its funny to think that you could just lie about the genomes of each post. Who would bother to check?
String identified: t t t tat c t at t g ac t. t t cc?
Closest match: Bubonic plague guys trust me trust me guys
