Overview:

Overlords of the night and one of the most prominent beings in the world of “Midnight’s Pack”. Alongside magic-sensitive people, vampires are the oldest of all magical species in the world, resulting in vampires being mostly cold or even repulsive towards anyone they don't see as worthy of their good will.

Biology:

Vampires are almost human-looking beings, usually considered attractive and beautiful/handsome by the community.

Due to their lower body temperature, their skin has an “unhealthily” pale shade (which applies to dark-skinned ones, as well - their skin is dark yet yet with seemingly unhealthy shade) and their touch can be viewed as uncomfortably cold. They are more resistant to warm temperatures but they can easily get too cold, which is also the reason why you can spot vampires wearing significantly warmer clothes during cold days.

The most significant differences between them and normal humans are definitely big, sharp fangs (fun fact: most of vampires have only one pair of fangs but in rare occasions, the vampire can be born with two pairs of fangs - one pair in upper jaw, the other in the lower jaw) and eyes.

Speaking of the eyes, vampires are naturally born with blue irises (this also applies to dark-skinned ones) but they can change color depending on nutrition (we'll talk about the reason later).

A vampiric stomach is also very different from a human's: their organ is separated into two parts and one of them works almost the same as a human's stomach, the other accepts only the nutrition they receive from blood. Also, this side is significantly bigger, meaning that vampires technically don't need to eat normal food, although they do it to both avoid being too thin and to smell the taste of dishes.

Aging:

In the world of “Midnight’s Pack”, vampires aren't immortal like in most media, though they can live over the age of 1,000. Actually, they're aging for 30 years like humans and then the process gets significantly slower, which puts them into the "long-living magical species" category.

Abilities:

Despite being two oldest magical species, vampires and magic-sensitive people hold different magical abilities, although some of their powers might have almost or 100% the same result.

The most significant abilities include shapeshift into a bat, mist form, object/being levitation, mind control and mind reading (can be used only on non-vampires), super strength and speed, better healing, etc.

Compared to magic-sensitive people, vampires use their powers only non-verbally, as they’re mostly tight up to their will. Magic-sensitive people have to learn how to cast spells non-verbally and because it's difficult, there's only a few of them who can do so.

Unlike in most media, vampires in Midnight’s Pack can't turn humans into new vampires with their bite - and even if they were able to, vampires wouldn't do so, as most of them see humans as something even worse than other magical species.

Weaknesses:

Sunlight isn't fatal for vampires in Midnight’s Pack, however they can feel very dizzy without wearing a hat and without a suncream or an umbrella, some of them can even get an allergic reaction on their skin - it looks like a red rash that's itchy and hot, sometimes even painful at touch.

Their eyes are also pretty sensitive to sunlight, so most of the vampires wear sunglasses outside during the day. Without them, their eyes would become watery in reaction to irritation.

Garlic is something vampires are very afraid of, mainly because it causes even worse allergic reactions to their bodies than sunlight, so they avoid it as much as they can. This vegetable not only makes their throats swollen, but they can also irritate their stomach, resulting in a long time of vomiting.

In the worst case, they can get poisoned and… die.

And lastly, silver is the only metal that can hurt or kill all magical species and magical animals from Midnight’s Pack universe, for sure.

Nutrition & “Moonlight fangsberry”:

It was already mentioned that vampires have a very specific stomach with two parts: one that accepts normal food and one that only gets nutrition from blood. Also, the second-mentioned side is bigger, which results in vampires eating normal food only to avoid being too thin and to smell the taste of dishes.

Like in most media, vampires from the universe of Midnight’s Pack can drink blood to get the needed nutritions, however the law of the world has strict rules:

For example vampires can't just go and directly drink blood from somebody’s neck. Instead, they have to go and buy it from the hospitals.

Also, there are the rules about how many packs of blood vampires can buy, as blood might be needed elsewhere.

And of course, vampires can't buy too rare blood types.

Earlier in this chapter, it was stated that in Midnight’s Pack, the eyes of the vampires are naturally blue but can change to purplish blue, purple or even red through time. This is affected by hemoglobin, more specifically by iron that's in it (iron can become red in reaction with oxygen), as this protein can get in a vampire's body and change the colors of their irises.

However, there are still vampires, even adult ones, with clearly light blue eyes. These individuals decided not to drink blood, either because they feel guilty for drinking blood, because they hematophobic/hemophobic or because they just don't want to.

In these cases, there's a plant that's an alternative food for vampires in the world of Midnight's pack.

Moonlight fangsberry, what’s the plant called, is a unique fauna from the universe. A bush with a black wood, dark green leafs, white petals and big berries (about 15 centimeters long but can grow bigger). It's not only pretty unpretentious with the ability to adjust to almost every climate (although the plant was first found in the mountains), it's also 100% edible.

As M. fangsberry has the same nutritions as blood and the only thing that's missing is hemoglobin with its iron, it can't change vampire’s irises.

The plant itself has no specific smell or taste, so it’s usable in both salty and sweet dishes, or even in drinks.

Products made from M. fangsberry, for example crackers, bonbons, teas, lemonades, champagnes, etc. can be found both in the supermarkets or in small shops with stuff only for vampires.

Lifestyle:

Most vampires are wealthy, aristocratic descendants who own great mansions (each family even often owns more than 1 mansion) and a great number of known companies and factories.

As it was mentioned at the start of this article, a lot of vampires act cold, sometimes even repulsive towards anyone they don't see as worthy of their good will, which is almost every other species. Unfortunately, these opinions aren't just a thing older vampires believe in - actually, young vampires often share the negative view of different species and they might even be worse, as they usually struggle with keeping a permanent poker face and a neutral demeanor.

This is mostly affected by the fact that vampires from wealthy families are educated at home until the age of 15, then they're sent to private high schools - Diaemus Academy is known to be the most prestigious, as well as the most expensive vampire school in the world. Although their education is overall on a high level, there are still stereotypical thoughts of other species the teachers unintentionally or purposely spread, resulting in feeding these lies even more.

And it doesn't help that a lot of the vampires introduce these thoughts to their children when they're still little.

Most vampires meet other species at universities (which are only public in this world) for the first time but because they're mostly “brainwashed” from home and earlier education, about 95% of them is unable to form at least a neutral relationship with other species - the only exception are, of course, magic-sensitive people, because vampires consider them as equal to each other. This is affected by the fact a lot of scientists who developed important products for vampires, for example sun-protecting creams, were magic-sensitive people.

The biggest animosity mostly stays between vampires and werewolves - in the past, especially during medieval times, werewolves often worked as slaves or poorly-paid servants of the most wealthiest vampire families and even if the laws about same rights for everyone came, vampires still look down at the lycanthropes, mainly because of how unpredictable, wild and destructive they can become.

Werewolves also keep negative opinions of vampires, so it’s almost impossible to see friends or even multi-species couples.

If there are any positive, vampire-werewolf relationships, they are mostly between werewolves and middle-class vampire families (these families aren't common but they're not the rarest, either).

Trivia:

Vampires have a light liquid instead of blood - this means periods/menstrual cycles are a thing in vampires’ life, as well.

Vampires mostly wear dark clothes (black, dark purple, magenta, dark green, etc.), especially those from wealthy families - it's something they were wearing even in the ancient and medieval times. In the past, it was mostly because vampires were originally a nocturnal species and they didn't want to be spotted in the dark. Nowadays, it's mostly just a style and/or a “rule”.

Vampires celebrate national holidays, although in a very tamed way, and then specific events of their offsprings they consider “important and worthy of a great celebration”. Among these are for example birth, enrolling in a private high school, graduation, legal adulthood and marriage.

There are often multi-generational households among vampires - the most significant example of this are the Desrosiers.

Vampires’ eyes glow in the dark - they can also turn light pink (when they're shy/nervous in a romantic way) or black with white irises (when they're starving). These colors aren’t connected to their nutrition.

Wealthy vampires still sometimes have servants, including werewolf ones - even if they still don't like them as a species, vampires pay them well and don't actively treat them as sh*t (there are exceptions but not many - in these cases, werewolves usually just voluntarily quit the job).

One of the most significant werewolf servants in my story is a chef of the Desrosiers family, Roxanne Cantellow - she is a elder lady who has been working for Dorian for a long time. She took care of Ronan and Sorren (Dorian's sons) when they were little and she also wanted to help raise Valerian (Sorren's older son) - Val himself didn't want to, however. Roxy currently still takes care of Liam (she serves as a grandmother role to him, even) and even if Dorian constantly pisses her off (he's pretty bossy and arrogant), she's used to him and doesn't want to leave just because “His highness doesn't know what a proper behavior is but always commands people around him to be proper themselves”... And she's also grateful to Dorian's deceased wife Adriana for the job she gave her (the two of them surprisingly had a friendly relationship, despite Adriana being a very wealthy vampire and Roxy being “only” a werewolf chef).

By the way, Dorian is very aware he needs Roxanne - she can cook (Rosine can, too but she's mostly busy), does laundry, because she's most likely the most patient with him out of all members of the household, etc. ... he's secretly grateful for her being around, and not only due to her positive bond with Adriana.

Finally made a little reference sheet for Piper!

He's a young half fae boy born around the same time as Jeanne, knowing her basically his entire life as Jeanne's family had a home close to his family's. He was always eager to play with her, but he often irritated Jeanne because of his overly childish manner, as well as his selfishness and arrogance. Piper has everything that Jeanne has ever wanted to have (a loving family, a normal childhood, and the approval of Jeanne's father), and this makes her have an extreme hatred towards him, often calling him a 'brat' and insulting him to his face, which never seems to make Piper irritated or discouraged to speak to her. he's also considerably immature even now at the age of 16, often spoiled by his parents and getting away with his lack of responsibility and social cues. He's very talented at sports, being in RSA's Spelldrive team, but is easily bored and doesn't care about learning other topics as "my family is wealthy anyway, why the heck would I need to learn all that?"

He's always thought Jeanne as someone interesting, going as far as to visit Jeanne everytime her family would stop by Briar Valley to play with her and invent new games; He was always complimented by her father while she was always put down for not being nearly as talented, that plus the fact that he could act as immature as he wanted and have as much fun as he wanted while she was forced to be an adult at the age of 12 made her jealous and angry. Piper is also the reason she lost her left hand.

Isabelle Desrosiers: Piper is infatuated with Isabelle, but his advances are always turned down and are unwanted, Neige often tells him to drop it, especially because Isabelle is already arranged to marry someone else. His crush on her is just because of her beautiful appearance, and because her interests in everything that bores him intrigues him. Isa tolerates him but puts her foot down when needed.

Neige LeBlanche: Neige and him don't get along very well. Neige tries to be nice and kind to him, but he gets a bit annoyed at how be acts around Isa since they're great friends. Piper thinks he's too good for his own good, wanting him to let loose a little.

Chenya: Piper and Chenya get along quite well, as they're both chaotic in nature and feed off of teasing and annoying others. I assume Chenya helps Piper understand his limits as time goes on and helps him with understanding other people better and respecting them.

Backstory

Ronan was born in Cambridge, England in secret. His mother Kassady had hidden him from her abusive husband — as well as the fact that he was the product of a love affair with her former suitor; Aesop. Ronan grew up not knowing his birth mother (or the fact that he had a half/twin sister); raised by his father until Sharp married when his son was five.

He had a relatively happy childhood, though Ronan always felt slightly out of place. He was not the overly studious, serious type, which caused misunderstandings between him and his strict father… especially when Ronan is sorted into Hufflepuff instead of Slytherin (the Sharp family’s ancestral House).

But as he grows and learns more about his past and his family, he begins to come into his own as he becomes a Charms prodigy and a guiding light for the next generation of Keepers 😉.

Vampire Debutante is something of a multimedia series that I'm working on that follows the daily lives and adventures of three vampires sisters living in a late 18th century world. The only named characters are that of the Desrosiers family, Tiara, Eranthe, Phaedra, Lucien, and the nanny Mina. Also though Tiara's fellow teen vampire and rival Niamh.

Currently I have a 4 minute animated short film that I will finish animating this month, the film take's place the night of Tiara's debut ball into Vampire High Society. It follows both her struggles as a teen girl as well as her younger sister's hijinks as they attempt to sneak into the party.

I'm also working on a picture book! When I'll finish that I'm not too sure, but it's about the sisters going out to find them self a new horse :)

The dream would be to pitch the series and wind up with a whole animated show one day, with my film as a proof of concept, but in the meanwhile I think it'd be fun to make a comic with the occasional shorter animation just to push my skills and get my ideas down.

Taken from the Gibson guitar manufacturer - Chai's scrap guitar is the "Flying V" model. Straightforward.

Scottish origin. Gibson means "son of the bright pledge"

Pronounced "edge-ee-o-for"

West African/Igbo origin. (I felt like giving Macaron an African surname because why not?) Ejiofor means "one who acts in good faith". (If that doesn't fit Mac...) Knowledge of the actor Chiwetel Ejiofor didn't influence my choice.

I chose Fukuzawa for his family name originally, but changed it after rediscovering something funny in my D&D character planning doc. Consonant swapping Samson gives Zanzom, Zanzo M. (The foreshadowing... If you can call it that. 😄)

A broad coalition of groups in Atlanta has launched a referendum to give voters a chance to say whether they want the controversial police and fire department training center known as “Cop City” built in a forest south-east of the city.

The effort requires organizers to collect about 70,000 signatures from Atlanta registered voters in 60 days. Then the question of the city canceling its agreement with the Atlanta Police Foundation to build the $90m center can be added to municipal election ballots in November.

The push comes after an estimated thousand people who showed up at City Hall on 5 June proved insufficient to stop Atlanta’s city council from approving about $67m for Cop City. Meanwhile, machines have already begun clear-cutting trees on the project’s 171-acre footprint in South River Forest.

The referendum faces what one organizer called “an atmosphere of repression” – including two activists being charged with felonies last week while putting up fliers, bringing total arrests since December to 50.

The largest group of arrests, on 5 March in a public park in the forest near where the project is planned, was followed by local government closing the park, in effect shutting off tree-sitting protests by “forest defenders” that had gone on for more than a year.

“We’re at the stage where they’ve pushed people out of the forest, they’ve arrested people … they’ve fenced off the forest, they’ve even begun clear-cutting,” said Kamau Franklin, founder of local group Community Movement Builders. “We’re at the stage where the most direct, legal mechanism to stop this project is by referendum.” [...]

...the movement opposing the project has drawn a wide range of people locally, nationally and internationally who oppose police militarization, urban forest destruction amid climate change and environmental racism. Most residents in neighborhoods surrounding the forest are Black.

Most of the organizations driving the referendum are also Black-led, including the regional chapter of Working Families Power, Black Voters Matter and the NAACP. Officials from the Georgia governor, Brian Kemp, down to the mayor have consistently referred to opposition against the center as the work of white “outsiders”.

“That narrative is false,” said Britney Whaley, regional director of Working Families Power. “This has been national, but it’s also been community-grown for a few years now.”

Ashley Dixon, an Atlanta-area organizer, has led canvassing efforts to inform neighborhoods around South River Forest about the center for nearly a year. Her team has spoken to more than a thousand people. About 80% opposed the project once they knew about it, she said.

The only academic poll on the issue to date, from Atlanta’s Emory University, showed slightly more Black respondents opposed the project than supported it, with the opposite being true for whites. Atlanta’s population is 48% Black.

The idea for the referendum came from one that succeeded in stopping a spaceport from being built in coastal Georgia, said Will Harlan, founder of Forest Keeper, a national forest conservation organization. “To me, Cop City is the most important issue in conservation in the south-east,” Harlan said. “A referendum is the smartest, most democratic solution … [and] a way to find resolution and closure.”

Although the 2022 spaceport referendum affected a county of only 55,000 people, similarities between the two controversies point to the role voters can play when other efforts fall short.

In that case, local officials “dug their heels in” and stopped responding to press requests or providing transparent information to the public, said Megan Desrosiers, who led the referendum. In the case of Cop City, the Atlanta Police Foundation has stopped answering press requests for at least a year, and the city of Atlanta was recently discovered to be understating the project’s cost to taxpayers by about $36m.

The project is planned on land the city owns that is located in neighboring DeKalb county. Because of Atlanta’s ownership, only Atlanta voters can participate in the referendum. [...]

Organizers of the Cop City referendum pointed to the state’s heavy-handed approach to protesters as a primary concern. There have been 42 domestic terrorism charges to date. A bail and legal defense fund’s members were also arrested and the state added fundraising to its criminal description of the training center’s opposition.

In that context, it took about a dozen attempts at finding a legally required fiscal sponsor for the referendum, which may need as much as $3.5m to reach success, said spokesperson Paul Glaze.

Cliff Albright, co-founder of Black Voters Matter – one of two organizations that agreed to take the sponsorship role – said the recent Atlanta Solidarity Fund arrests were done “to send a message, in hopes it would have a chilling effect. We’re not naive about what the threats are – but we believe our community cares about this issue.”

The birthplace of Rose and Judas Rowan, and the city where both the immediate Rowan family, and the Desrosiers family, reside. Rose left this city in 1883, when she married her husband, Vlad Draculea, and moved to Romania, but returned often to see her family. Judas continued to reside in this city until his parents passed away, then he split his time between it and London. Both twins are very fond of their birthplace, and have maintained various residences there over the centuries, including that of their family home.

The city where Rose met her husband, and where some of her paternal family resides. While she does not hold as much affection for it as for Paris, Rose enjoys the city, and will visit it whenever the mood strikes. Judas holds a similar sentiment about the city as his sister, though given that he has a residence there and she does not, his affection for the place and the enjoyment of it is obviously higher than hers.

The home of Rose's husband, Vlad Draculea, and her primary residence since 1883. Rose thinks of the place as her second home (which it is), and feels entirely comfortable residing there, much to the delight of her husband. Judas, meanwhile, finds the place enjoyable to visit, but he would not choose to live there unless absolutely necessary.

Alliances: From the Heart is a war table operation in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

The conflict among the nobles of the Orlesian capital has come to a head. Lady Richelieu has been busy promoting an arranged marriage to solidify the positions of the current players, with considerable status reserved for her as matchmaker. The object is the pairing of Lord desRosier with Lady Thibault's daughter Celeste. All who have status enough to speak seem to be in agreement, but we have received a number of letters regarding the matter.

From Lady Velise Thibault:

My daughter will dutifully comply, but I know her feeling. She will speak to no one. I would have you remind her that we are servants of our chosen world, but it serves us as well. It is her name that is stabilizing this alliance. It conveys power that should not be misdirected to matchmakers.

From Lord Pierren desRosier:

Frankly, I'll be glad when the matter is settled. I've no desire to inconvenience the young Celeste beyond what name-sharing "Lady" Richelieu recommends. This has been a cock-up from head to tail.

From Jecin Leandre:

I pledge to the Inquisition. If my dearest Celeste is willing to sacrifice to ensure this alliance, then I can only do so much. My name may not be enough for some, but she will have my protection indirectly, through service to you.

Lord desRosier was all too glad to receive various concessions to abandon the current squabble in favor of more honorable pursuits. I believe they involve acquiring various trophy animals in bloody fashion. That allows a less politically desirable - but more personally desired - pairing to occur. The wedding of Jecin Leandre and Celeste Thibault will bond their families in alliance. To the chagrin of Lady Richelieu, I suspect. I might also note that the only one suggesting Lord desRosier be the controlling influence in this matter is Lady Richelieu, who has her own interests. If the Inquisitor tells Celeste that she should marry for duty but love in secret, she plans to reunite with Jecin as her lover, with the blessing of her new husband Pierren. Lady Richelieu is not particularly pleased by this course of action.

Married properly and for love, Celeste and Jecin were delighted.

The Inquisitor can attend the wedding ceremony, which is held on the Upper Level of the Summer Bazaar in Val Royeaux. Lady Richelieu will also be in attendance, threatening to nullify the proceedings if she can to stop the marriage between them. She is shocked to find the Inquisitor in attendance, and displeased if they decide to give the union their blessing. When Lady Richelieu criticizes Celeste and Jecin for ruining their houses, they retort that they'll make a life and a name just to spite her, and that there's no point in matching power to power just to gain more power. Lady Richelieu blames their youth for their stance. She thanks the Inquisitor for coming to the wedding, saying that they've certainly made an impression. Jecin also pledges his life to the Inquisition.

[Author's Note: This post references Discord RP events and a version of a muse (Princess Allie from the anime) that isn't on this blog, but I'm posting here because I haven't had the motivation to set up the other blog she's supposed to be on in forever LMAO. @kokorowoutsu would be familiar with this muse and her plot, which will be covered below. Of everyone at the entire festival, she must be the only one who isn't happy.

The curse that Asimov--the Paradox Human Volo of Fallenverse--had placed on her had consequences far beyond those he had described to her, and she had a feeling they were fully intended. Enemy to Pokémon, enemy to children--when all hated and feared her, there was not a single place in public she could go without at least one of those two taking notice in the worst possible way. Far from simply having no Pokémon and no friends her age, she was more or less relegated to being a shut-in save for the early morning when no one was around on the streets to cause a scene in front of her. Perhaps, if she were not so foolish as to steal from him, his other self, and someone they knew--and perhaps if she was not so foolish as to attempt to harm his kin--she could have avoided all this. Perhaps if, even if she was foolish enough to do all that, she could have still avoided all this if she had not had the hubris to directly offend an ascended once-human Legendary like Asimov who could be just as vindictive as any classical god of legend could be--combined with all of a human's spite. But she didn't. And now she's here. And now she's angrier about her incurable curse than ever.

The countercurse work of the family of her fae betrothed, Maël Everspark, mattered little. At least most of the Pokémon around her now would simply turn their backs to her instead of immediately startling at her presence, but she learned the hard way that the improvement wasn't so helpful with children when one of them pointed at her and started wailing on the first day of the Festival. Since then she's had to only come on the festival grounds as soon as it opens before too many families appear on the scene--and then on her way out she's had to ninja dodge every child she saw just to avoid a repeat of what happened on the first day. Whatever. She's not going to let that ruin absolutely everything for her. She heard there were some cute Pokémon up for adoption. And if there's any sign that the "enemy of Pokémon" curse has lessened, she's going to get one, whether they like it or not. She saunters up to the Pokémon adoption bazar as soon as it opens.

"I'd like to have a--"

But the reaction of the Pokémon is instant. The three non-Ditto Pokémon remaining in the fields immediately run to where the Dittos are. She looks to the Ditto, which she had shittalked in a group chat just the other day, though now she'll take them because she's desperate--no luck there either. They don't seem agitated--they're too confident and too wholesome to be fearful or hateful of a child, as other Pokémon have acted due to the curse--but this is the one person on the festival grounds who they won't try to impress. One by one they turn around and pretend she was never there. Not only do they sense the curse, they can practically feel the snobbery radiating off her, fully aware they are only a last-ditch choice. They know they deserve better!

The attendant of the pasture narrows her eyes as she notices the response from the Pokémon.

"I don't know. I'm not sure if you would be the right fit," she says, looking nervous. She has worried a little about letting that Volo guy take a Pokémon despite the fact one of them did in fact come up to him. Part of her still wonders whether he had indeed been a full kitsune in disguise, though of course, she could see Airi and the Handsome Ditto looking happy with the man and his family as they romped about the festival grounds.

"Then I want to spin the mystery wheel," Allie demands. She yells to the guy who's running the wheel today. "HEY! Order up!"

The man looks up from setting up the wheel, jarred by her rude entitlement; he gives her a stunned 'what the heck is this girl for real' look before composing himself and calmly asserting the rules.

"Festival staff have the right to refuse service to those who are rude to us," he says.

Allie blanches--she knows she's potentially ruined her chance of getting a Pokémon. Then she puts on the biggest fake smile and tries again.

"I'm sorry, sir, for my behavior," she says, offering 1,500 Pokéyen as she goes up to him and lowkey shoving it in his face. "May I please have three spins of the wheel?"

He squints. He doesn't like the vibes that this redo is giving off, and he hasn't failed to notice the further entitlement in the way she handed him the money so he simply shakes his head. Children must learn that their actions have consequences--a lesson this child has clearly yet to learn, despite having been served so many of them.

She looks like she's about to protest, but then realizes: The main adoption center lady hasn't said no yet. She'll go bother her some more before she bothers him again.

"Excuse me, mademoiselle," she says, "but I don't see why I can't have a Pokémon."

"I'm afraid that won't be possible, miss," the attendant replies. "None of them seem interested in you."

"Well, I'm interested in them," Allie huffs, stepping forward like she's going to force her way in if she continues to be denied.

"We can't give a Pokémon to someone who they're plainly afraid of, " she says, gesturing to the three hybrids cowering in fear of Allie. "There was a gentleman here the other day who seemed to understand that perfectly."

"I'll take any Pokémon. Not just those three. Those Dittos don't look afraid of me. Give me one of them!" she demands, trying and failing to stop the desperation from creeping into her voice.

"We also can't give a Pokémon who doesn't wish to bond with a potential new Trainer." She sighs and shakes her head. "I'm dreadfully sorry, Princess, but we're going to have to ask you to leave."

Leave? But…

"I don't see why I should," she says. "They may not be interested now, but who says they won't be interested later?"

"Even if that were true, you were terribly rude to my colleague. As I've said before, I don't think you're a good fit for this adoption center," says the attendant, firm with an even and professional tone of voice typical of those in customer service when faced with unholy amounts of Karenage.

"I know I'm just a kid who makes mistakes, but trust me, I'm really nice to Pokémon!" Allie begs. "Please--"

"You ought to apologize instead of begging, Your Highness."

"Sorry," she grumbles. "Can I have a Pokémon now?"

The attendant shakes her head.

"My father is a King." A snarl creeps into her voice. "What if I told him to make you give me a Pokémon?"

"Your father has no jurisdiction over Johto, and you threatening us with him has only confirmed I have made the right decision. I will not ask again. Please leave."

Allie stares, dumbfounded. She was sure the threat would work. She should have known by now that there were people in this world that begging, pleading and namedropping wouldn't work on, but she keeps trying over and over again in the hopes of getting a different result. Then she begins to frown. Then, her stare turns into a glare.

"If you don't let me have a Pokémon...I'll take one myself."

She shoves her way past the attendants with little resistance, not even a "Wait! Stop!"--which should have been her first sign that everything that happened past "I'll take one myself" isn't actually happening. In the dreamlike vision that she thinks is real, she tears past the entryway to the pasture and the Ditto flee before her, leaving the hybrids completely exposed. She sizes them up, looming over them as Hana the Munna trembles in her shadow, thinking about who to pick. Finally, she turns her attention directly to Hana, and grins a spoiled little grin.

"I'll have YOU."

She makes a dive for Hana as it, too, turns to flee, seizing the poor creature in her grasp--but as soon as her arms wrap around it like a Pinsir's head-claws using ViceGrip, they completely phase through the Pokémon's tiny body as though she's a ghost. Then the false scene dissolves, and Allie finds her face hitting the dirt in a patch of grass on the edges of the festival, with the booths of the festival far in the distance. Above her, Asimov stands, looking supremely exasperated as he shakes his head--and she realizes that whole sequence past the moment she decided to try and take a Pokémon by force is his doing.

"You haven't learned anything, it looks like," he says disapprovingly. "Tsk, tsk."

She scowls as he walks away on his digitigrade legs. A Volo himself, he has all of Risenverse Volo's self-importance in every step. She glowers at him bitterly as he gets further away, and thinks to herself:

If learning to be better won't break the curse, what's the point?

I was thinking if I specify the skin tones of vampires in my fantasy world of Midnight's Pack right (back then, in the post I made about them) - I have a feeling I should describe it a little more and this time with examples.

I'm worried the way I wrote the highlighted part in the post sounds questionable at best, therefore I'll try to describe it better this time.

To understand what I meant, we will need examples and why not to use two most prominent vampire teenagers, William "Liam" Desrosiers (one of the five protagonists of the story) and David "Dave" Vesper (one of the classmates and a vampire from a middle-class family).

As you can see, Liam (he/him) has a light and visibly cold skin tone that's mostly associated with a stereotypical appearance of vampires we know.

On the other hand, Dave (also he/him) is dark-skinned, however, you can see that I chose shades of brown that aren't warm - this is because of vampires' naturally lower body temperature and light liquid they have instead of blood.

Hopefully, this made my earlier statement clear. I have to be more careful and write what I have on my mind better.

Backstory

Born in Avignon, France, Raegan had a turbulent childhood. While her mother was loving and kind, she often had to travel for her work - as did Raegan’s father, meaning she was often with only one parent for extended periods of time or had to be watched by one of her paternal aunts. When he was around, Marcel was not an affectionate man…in fact, he was often physically and verbally abusive to his wife right in front of Raegan and extended the treatment to her as she got older.

Eventually he discovered that Kassady had had an affair and conceived a son with another man. This coupled with his disdain for witchcraft led him to abandon his wife and daughter. So, the two moved back to Kassady’s hometown of Galway, Ireland.

However, times were tough. Her mother’s career as a dragonologist was no longer lucrative enough in the troubling times, and so they again relocated to London.

It was there that Kassady met a tragic, sudden end at the hands of an unidentified serial killer (who many suspected was actually a wizard). A newly orphaned Raegan, upon hearing the news, burned her house to the ground and wound up killing the officer who reported it accidentally.

The emotion was enough to unlock the ancient magic that had been hidden away inside of her, and just days after her mother’s funeral she received her Hogwarts letter. She now lives with her best friend (Diana)’s aunt in Scotland.

They likely would have fired her on her first day for her insubordination, but they can’t deny the fact that she quickly becomes one of the best they have. Really, it’s a case of mutual loathing maintained through an advantageous truce.

Eventually, she does leave of her own accord, and takes up studying ancient history and magical weapon making.

Also decided to challenge myself to use pick one for each alpabeth. Well, tried, but then divided into major and minor character. So, none have the same beginning letter in their surname except when they're one family.

My sweet baby boy, Isocrates Desrosiers (or Isosceles triangle by @tradramblings), a High Elf Oath of Vengeance Paladin/College of Lore Bard with a Noble background. Some tidbits about him:

1. What he lacks in book smart, he excels them in street smart as well people smart. Also popular with kids, refugees, and common folks due to his family's active contribution for social welfare in Baldur's Gate.

2. Adoptive big brother to BG3's version of the Gen siblings. Adopts stray cats, names them after ancient generals and royalties.

3. Still keep in touch with the people he met and bonded after the journey. Recently sent some of his students to Alfira's college as a way to show his support.

4. Eldest of his six siblings, and currently the only one who has an official romantic partner, *cough* Gale *cough*

5. A hopeless romantic, often gushes about people's love stories. Half of his songs mostly composed about different types of love.

6. In a modern AU, he'd be a youth pastor with floral tattoos and sings on the side. Occasionally goes to the synagogue to either hang out with his friends or for work purposes.

7. Have scars all over his bodies, one being the black veins when he used to be partial illithid.

8. Loves it when people underestimate him, it fuels him even more to prove them wrong. Especially if it came from arrogant assholes.

11. Knows when he's being manipulated and plays along before stabbing their backs when they least expected.

12. Regards Astarion as a vitriolic best friend that he genuinely cares for. Never said it to his face though. Isocrates is the one who agrees that he's free to drain their enemy's blood.

13. Before Isocrates was kidnapped and had a tadpole planted inside his head, he was just returning from a crusade which is why he still wore that armor.
